“homework gallery challenges classic curatorial norms and serves as a safe space within the art world.” – Wonderland Magazine
homework, the nomadic art gallery known for its conversation-triggering exhibitions, is pleased to announce a new pop up exhibition in Little River and its immersive booth at NADA Miami during Miami Art week. Both initiatives will have an overarching concept: to celebrate and explore Caribbean cultural identity. Julián Chams and Patricia Encarnación will be among the artists featured in the exhibition and the ones highlighted at the booth.
This new offering from homework is poised to redefine our understanding of time, nature, and Caribbean cultural identity through the lens of contemporary art. The concept proposed for the booth will be further explored at a pop-up exhibition in Little River, where homework will engage different artists, panelist and performers to continue the conversation proposed above.
The artists at the Little River exhibition will challenge common viewpoints and engage viewers in a discourse on Caribbean cultural identity and the impact of history on our collective perceptions. This theme will also be explored at NADA Miami with new pieces created exclusively for the booth by Chams and Encarnación. Chams repurposes Caribbean visual imagery, breathing new life into an often overseen culture, while Encarnación reimagines colonial artifacts to provoke thoughtful discourse. The booth will offer a visually engaging and intellectually stimulating experience, inviting visitors to explore cultural identity, time, and nature. The artists invite viewers to contemplate the significance of these traces in a changing world. Chams and Encarnación’s works act as time capsules, capturing Caribbean essence through imagery, objects, and symbols. Their interventions encourage reflection on cultural identity’s evolving nature.
homework aims to inspire attendees to embark on a reflective journey guided by the voices of Caribbean artists and to encourage viewers to consider how these works shape perceptions of the future.
