Ebhoni – Hit This

Already christened “Our favorite new R&B artist” by FLAUNT, 21 year-old Toronto-born singer and songwriter Ebhoni unveils a seductive new single entitled “Hit This.” Once again, she asserts herself as the baddest bad gyal of them all! Listen HERE.

“Hit This” arrives on the heels of her fall bop “MIA.” Inciting critical applause right out of the gate, FLAUNT described it as “a sensual, dancehall-inspired track,” and KAZI called it “infectious.” Check out the music video HERE. On the track co-produced by IzyBeats (Koffee, Jorja Smith, Masego) and co-written by the artist herself, a dancehall bounce simmers beneath her dynamic delivery. Ebhoni’s voice stretches from intimate verses towards hypnotic falsetto as she promises, “When ya hit this, ain’t no coming back. I’m on ya wish list, but where your money at?”

About “Hit This,” Ebhoni exclaimed, “Working on ‘Hit This’ was a straight vibe in the studio! I was in Miami working and made ‘Hit This’ day two in the studio, and everyone was like, ‘We want ENERGY on this track!’ Izy literally started making the beat from scratch and, as he was building it, we were all just going mad with ideas.Walshy Fire is always hyping me so, of course, we started talking our shit. The whole Creative Titans team just brings a different type of energy when creating.”

The imaging for the breakout track was inspired by Ebhoni’s Caribbean culture. “I’m all about authenticity! From the music to even my press photos, I aimed to deliver authentic Bashment & Passa Passa vibes to my fans.” Bashment & Passa Passa are both Caribbean terms widely used to describe an authentic feeling and vibe associated with dancehall & reggae street parties.

Over the last few years, Ebhoni’s string of animated, confident R&B singles has won both commercial and critical success. In the middle of a productive 2019 run, Pitchfork wrote that she is “reclaiming the Toronto R&B crown for women.” Throughout her career, Ebhoni’s made a point to partner specifically with Black-owned businesses, support other women artists and workers, and to uplift the local LGBTQ+ community, which sheߣs done through efforts like hosting Pride Toronto. Ebhoni is a must-follow.

Right now, Ebhoni is setting the stage for her debut EP as well as more surprises to come in 2021!
