This October, the Downtown Art Walk is pleased to showcase the work of Yuri Elvin. Inspired at a young age by adult themes found in comics and magazines, Yuri creates bold paintings with fierce paint strokes. He hopes to open people’s minds to the possibility that through art, we can bring intentions into being. “If you want love, draw love. If you want peace, draw peace.” Taking place from 6 to 10pm at the Downtown Art Walk Lounge, located at 634 S. Spring Street, this exhibition will excite all the senses and allow viewers a peek into the vibrant, unfiltered mind of one of DTLA’s most active creators. 

Participating galleries for this month’s Downtown Art Walk event include: Avenue des Arts Gallery, The Main Museum, The Fine Arts Building, Ren Gallery, Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts Gallery, I ART U DTLA, Fold Gallery, The Hive,The Spring Arts Collective, Little Tokyo Art Complex, El Playground Gallery and Lobby Gallery.

THESE DAYS –

On view until October 22nd, the exhibition, “I STARTED SOMETHING I COULDN’T FINISH”, offers viewers access to a rare collection of posters produced from 1985 through 1995 by British band The Smiths and Morrissey. This selection of vintage, oversized 40” x 60” duotone posters, originally displayed in British and European subway stations and record stores, comes to us from the archives of an anonymous Smiths/Morrissey fan and collector. The collection is the result of an obsession that spanned more than twenty years. These Days is located at 118 Winston St., 90013, on the second floor. | MORE

AVENUE DES ARTS – 

Avenue des Arts and Factotum Productions are pleased to co-present Joan Cornellà’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles. Based in Barcelona, Joan Cornellà is a cartoonist and illustrator famous for his unsettling, surreal humor and black humorous comic strips as well as artwork. With a global following, his works consist of mostly wordless 6-panel comics – the disturbing themes, extreme discomfort, often grotesque, all packaged neatly into brightly colored, beautifully rendered comic illustrations. I ART U DTLA –

I ART U DTLA is an outdoor arts festival being reignited this October 12th from 5 to 10pm in Santee Court (743 Santee St. Los Angeles CA 90014) by REN Gallery owner, Renee Warren, and event coordinator, Daniel Clauser. As part of the Downtown LA Art Walk, I ART U DTLA is specifically curated for locals looking for high-quality art, apparel, handmade or Made-in-LA goods, live performances and interactive art experiences. It is located in the courtyard of Santee Court Lofts Community alongside the studio of artist Diego Cardoso and REN Gallery. | MORE
