Donna Missal – Just Like You

In her new video, “Just Like You,” Donna Missal is a playful shapeshifter, morphing from garage band singer to angel to heartsick lover to dark butterfly. Yet amid all the roles she plays, Donna’s singular style shines bright in the clip, making it clear that there is no one quite like her. “Just Like You” is the latest in a series of videos to accompany songs from her new album, Lighter (Harvest Records). She directed the video with Erica Hernandez, the photographer who shot the album cover and the photographs for Donna’s press campaign. The two edited the video along with Marco Rosas. Entertainment Voice said, “[With] “Just Like You,” Missal has transitioned elegantly from R&B-adjacent to full pop. She recaps the opening number, asking repeatedly, ‘How does it feel,’ before erupting into yet another chorus full of synth horns and the most indulgent filigree.” Riff Magazine noted, “The angst also appears on ‘Just Like You,’ which invokes the ’90s sound of artists like Natalie Imbruglia, Meredith Brooks and Alanis Morissette.” Atwood Magazine hailed Lighter as “messy, raw, and utterly genius.” The new video follows the “Bedroom Sessions,” a quartet of self-directed videos that feature Donna performing intimate versions of other songs from the album – “Slow Motion,” “Bloom,” “Who Loves You” and “Carefully.” View HERE.

In a feature that put Donna “In Conversation” with Shania Twain, Interview Magazine said, “Missal’s thunderous vocals, mixed with her poignant lyrics and a country-meets-90s rock attitude, transformed the record into a wildfire of emotional upheaval making way for growth accompanied by a newfound sense of creative empowerment; one that comes from being in full control of her story.” The New Nine noted, “Donna is the badass artist we need right now… Missal is unforgettable, the pure force of her voice can radiate through a room reaching the deepest corners, but at the same time be so soft and delicate. The way she moves through every realm between the two extremes gives you chills.”
