CHALLENGE WINNER FEDERICA MANCIN

The next generation of Marvel art is on full display at the Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel at Disneyland Paris! This past June, the Marvel Art Atelier, invited aspiring comic books artists for a one-of-a-kind training program, the results of which are now showing at the Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery alongside a collection of artwork by the world’s most iconic Marvel artists.

During the program, a class of talented mentees unleashed their creativity under the expert guidance of Marvel artist and mentors Giuseppe Camuncoli and Olivier Coipel along with Stormbreakers artists Peach Momoko and Natacha Bustos. This quartet of superstar Marvel talent taught the mentees all the tricks and techniques they need to bring the page to life in a way that only Marvel can do. After a series of themed challenges, including a final 24-hour challenge to draw an entire comic page, Federica Mancin was selected as the strongest prospective mentee of the week on the basis of her work. This young artist won her very first official Marvel assignment in person by Marvel Comics Editor-In-Chief C.B. Cebulski, and fans can see her artwork this October when she fills in for series artist Federico Vicentini in MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN #11. In what is sure to be an epic beginning to Mancin’s burgeoning career, this upcoming issue of writer Cody Ziglar’s hit run features a team-up between Spider-Man and Blade and an action-packed showdown with new villain Hightail.

“Having the opportunity to work on a Miles Morales issue as my first job at Marvel has been a dream come true as he is my favorite Marvel character,” Mancin shared. “I have enjoyed every second of it, the chance to draw Miles swinging across New York or throwing webs at his enemies, of course all the action sequences were super fun to me, as I love trying to find ways to convey energy and motion through the page. I have also enjoyed bringing to life other cool characters like Blade or Hightail as they make the adventure even more gripping and thrilling. I think it’s going to be an amazing and spooky journey!”

Check out some of Mancin’s brilliant new Marvel Comics artwork now and pick up MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN #11 on October 18! Keep an eye out in the coming months as more Marvel Art Atelier participants make their exciting Marvel Comics debuts! For more information, visit Marvel.com.

Unveiling the New You

Immediate Steps to Skyrocket Your Confidence and Achieve Your Dreams

In a world teeming with opportunity yet fraught with challenges, confidence stands as the ultimate currency for success. Regrettably, self-assurance doesn’t come naturally to everyone, nor does it manifest overnight. However, the good news is that confidence is a skill, one that can be honed and polished through intentional actions. Below are specific, actionable steps you can take today to catapult your confidence and steer you toward living your most fulfilling life.

Embrace a Fitness Routine

Physical well-being and mental confidence are closely linked. Regular exercise releases endorphins, the body’s natural mood elevators. Moreover, when you start to see tangible results—be it more muscle tone, enhanced stamina, or just a general sense of “feeling fit”—your self-esteem naturally improves. The key is to find a regimen that you enjoy; if you’re having fun, you’re more likely to stick with it. Whether it’s jogging, swimming, cycling, or a Zumba class, commit to it. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, as recommended by health experts.

Eat Like You Love Yourself

It’s not a cliché to say “you are what you eat.” A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients can significantly uplift your mood and energy levels, creating a positive feedback loop that makes you feel more confident. Prioritize whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables. And don’t forget hydration—drinking enough water can impact your cognitive function and emotional well-being. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day.

Make a Career Change

While a drastic career change isn’t feasible for everyone, sometimes the courage to make a bold move can pay dividends in self-confidence. If your job is affecting your self-esteem negatively, it might be time to explore other avenues. Whether it’s upskilling, networking, or just taking the leap into a more fulfilling role, remember that you spend a third of your life at work—make it count. Don’t forget to update your resume with any new experience, certifications, and achievements.

Master the Art of Relaxation

Cortisol, the stress hormone, is a confidence killer. Methods to effectively reduce stress are therefore not merely luxuries; they’re necessities. Techniques like mindfulness, meditation, or simple breathing exercises can help you manage stress. Inculcating such habits takes as little as 10-15 minutes a day but provides immeasurable benefits in lowering stress and boosting confidence.

Take on a Creative Endeavor

Creativity is a natural confidence booster. It offers a sense of accomplishment and can be incredibly freeing, allowing you to express yourself without judgment. This can be as simple as journaling, sketching, or engaging in DIY projects. It not only serves as an emotional outlet but also enhances your problem-solving skills, nurturing your resilience and self-esteem.

Share Your Wins on Social Media

In today’s hyper-connected world, social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram provide the stage for you to showcase your accomplishments. It’s not about seeking validation but about documenting your journey and drawing inspiration from it. Every time you share a milestone, you reaffirm your abilities and inspire others in the process. To make your posts more captivating, use an Instagram reel maker to craft engaging, bite-sized video content. This can be a fun, creative way to share your story and your wins.

Create a Vision Board

Visual reminders of your goals and aspirations can serve as powerful motivators. A vision board can be digital or physical, filled with images, quotes, and reminders of your goals. Seeing your ambitions visualized can make them feel more attainable, fostering a sense of belief in your abilities to achieve them.

Cultivate Positive Relationships

The people you surround yourself with can profoundly impact your self-esteem. Seek out relationships that provide emotional nourishment. Supportive friends and family can uplift you, providing the emotional scaffolding upon which you can build your confidence.

Commit to Lifelong Learning

The power of education and skill-building cannot be overstated when it comes to boosting self-confidence. Learning empowers you, giving you the tools to navigate various facets of life. Today, platforms like Coursera, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning make it incredibly convenient to acquire new skills from the comfort of your home.

Be Kind to Yourself

Last but certainly not least, practice self-compassion. Speak to yourself like you would to a dear friend. A kind internal dialogue can dramatically improve your self-view, equipping you with the emotional resilience to face life’s ups and downs confidently.

Building confidence is an ongoing journey, with its own set of highs and lows. But by adopting these strategies, you can create a reliable roadmap to a more self-assured, capable you. So, take that first step today and unlock the door to a life bursting with potential.

Balance and Hearing Ability

The American Academy of Audiology is supporting Balance Awareness Week, September 17 to 23. The observance has been designated by the Vestibular Disorders Association to increase awareness about balance problems. Fast and accurate diagnosis, along with effective treatment and coping strategies can greatly improve quality of life for people with balance issues.

Balance disorders, including vertigo and dizziness are also associated with a number of conditions including hearing loss, depression, anxiety, panic disorders, fainting or light-headedness, nausea and imbalance. Vestibular symptoms and dizziness are significant problems in older Americans. It is estimated that 30% of persons older than 60 years and almost 50% of those over the age of 85 years have dizziness and balance challenges.

Falls are the leading cause of injury and death in older adults. While there are many reasons why older adults are at risk of falling, hearing loss is associated with a higher risk. “Your vestibular, or balance system, and your auditory system are both housed in your inner ear. There is a known association between hearing loss and falls,” said Virginia Ramachandran, AuD, PhD, president of the American Academy of Audiology. According to a study by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, individuals with untreated mild hearing loss were nearly three times more likely to have a history of falling.

Audiologists are healthcare professionals who evaluate, treat and manage hearing loss and balance disorders in patients of all ages. Anyone with symptoms impacting their balance should see an audiologist. “Audiologists perform a battery of tests as part of the evaluation of the vestibular system,” Ramachandran explained. Depending on the findings of the exams, an audiologist may provide management options and, in some cases, may refer the patient to an otolaryngologist, neurologist or physical therapist.

“Balance Awareness Week promotes awareness and education so that consumers know where to turn when they have dizziness or balance issues,” said Ramachandran.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

Summer 2023 has been the best ever in terms of audience figures since the Museum opened, exceeding all expectations. The number of visitors in June, July, and August totaled 489,946, 40.469 more than in summer 2022—when the exhibition Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture, then on view, attracted numerous people to the Museum—and 44,799 more than in 2018, the next best summer in the history of the Museum. These 2023 record figures confirm the excellent condition of the Museum and its increasing appeal.

In June, 106,418 visitors enjoyed the Museum exhibitions (305 more than in 2022); 165,418 in July (17,488 more than in 2022); and 218,087 in August (22,676 more than in 2022).

As to the visitor geographic origin this summer, 68% came from abroad (3% more than in 2022), with France amounting to 17%, followed by Italy, Germany, and The Netherlands (7% each), and the UK (6%).

Wednesday August 16 was the busiest day of these three months, with 8,949 visitors.

The total accumulated number of Museum visitors in 2023 now stands at 898,513, 15% over 2022 and 7% more than in 2018.

One of the main reasons of this success has undoubtedly been the Museum’s appealing special exhibitions, such as Oskar Kokoschka. A Rebel from Vienna, sponsored by the BBVA Foundation (through September 3); Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. No Twilight Too Mighty (through September 10); or Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now, sponsored by Iberdrola (through October 8).
