STARTER + MLB

On Tuesday, July 25th, Starter × Major League Baseball brought back an icon, and it felt like the entire city was celebrating. The Return of the Bronx Bubble Jacket, a literal 90’s street style icon, is back with a limited edition drop – just in time for the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and the Subway Series.

The MLB Flagship Store was transformed into the Starter Pop Up for #TheReturnOfTheBronxBubble, with a special performance by Jadakiss and Funk Flex. The stars we’re in the building! The who’s who of hip hop, fashion, culture, music, sports and the NYC “it” crowd packed the house to catch the unveiling, score the presale, check out the nostalgic installations and of course- watch Jada perform!

The Limited Edition Bronx Bubble Jacket is available now at MLB Flagship Store at Rockefeller Center for just one week ONLY. Available in three teams (Yankees, Mets, Brooklyn) and three colors (Gold, Silver, Blue) for each and retailing for $300. This November the jacket will officially drop at the MLB Flagship, Starter.com and specialty retail stores across the country.

A Yankee hat. Timberlands. And the Starter Bronx Bubble jacket. It doesn’t get more New York than that. Steeped in nostalgia, these iconic pieces are the epitome of 90’s and 2000’s fashion. Starter, one of most recognizable and authentic sports apparel companies in the world, is tapping into that nostalgia– the energy was palpable!

Starter and Major League Baseball Join Forces Again to Re-Release Iconic Bronx Bubble Jacket

Celebrating Famed Limited Edition Drop with Star-Studded Bash Featuring Jadakiss and DJ Funk Flex at the MLB NYC Flagship Store

Starter, one the most iconic, innovative, and authentic sports apparel companies in the world, is collaborating with Major League Baseball to re-release a limited edition drop of the legendary Bronx Bubble jacket. Launched in 1971, Starter changed the face of the sports apparel industry forever and is intrinsically linked to MLB through countless licensing deals.

“The Bronx Bubble is widely recognized as an iconic and timeless piece of cultural legacy,” said Carl Banks, President of G-III sports apparel group. “Collaborating with MLB for this limited edition drop is a full circle moment. We are simultaneously bringing back this style staple while paying homage to the culture.”

Fans will have the chance to own the famed jacket, which is re-releasing just in time for the Subway Series, Fall 2023 season and the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop.

Steeped in nostalgia, the beloved Bronx Bubble Jacket quickly transcended the sports world to become the epitome of 90’s streetwear and an iconic touchstone, perfectly capturing the intersection of sports, music and culture. The original old jackets are difficult to find and brand recognition still runs strong. With the resurgence of the 90’s influencing current fashion, style seekers constantly scour resale sites and vintage stores not only for original Starter, but for other heritage and vintage brands as well.

To celebrate this iconic release, Starter and the MLB NYC Flagship Store are throwing an epic bash on Tuesday, July 25th from 2-6 p.m. featuring a performance by Jadakiss at 5 p.m., DJ Funk Flex spinning nostalgic hits throughout, an exclusive preview of the Bronx Bubble, first access to the presale and nostalgic installations. Following the event, Starter will execute a full takeover of the MLB NYC Flagship Store at Rockefeller Center running through July 30th.

Throughout the ’90s and early 2000s, the Bronx Bubble Jacket soared to cultural icon status, embraced by hip-hop artists and trendsetters across the nation. Fans such as Justin Bieber, LL Cool J, Eddie Murphy in Coming to America, Brooke Shields, Puffy, Will Smith, Run DMC, Jay-Z, Eminem, Missy Elliott, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Pink, Spike Lee, Cal Ripken Jr., Darryl Strawberry, Don Mattingly and countless others

elevated the jacket’s cultural significance. Its triumphant return means anyone can now own a piece of history.

The Bronx Bubble Jacket makes its presale debut timed to the Subway Series with featured classic NYC teams Yankees, Mets and Brooklyn Dodgers each offered in Gold, Silver and Blue. Retailing for $300 and available for purchase at Starter.com, MLB NYC Flagship Store, and specialty retailers across the country in November with limited numbers available via presale at the launch event and Starter MLB Flagship Store takeover from July 25-30.

ATOM BOMB SCIENTIST WARNS AMERICA

Clip from Oct. 26, 1945; 50 seconds: ATOM BOMB SCIENTIST WARNS AMERICA OF DANGERS AHEAD! Research chief of atomic project, Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, in-camera interview, tells the nation that 40,000,000 in U.S. cities could be killed overnight and emphasizes that there is no counter-weapon to stop atom bomb.

Clip context: In October 1945, two months after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that led to the end of World War II, physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer resigned as director of the Los Alamos Laboratory, where he oversaw the design of the bomb. Soon after, he met with President Truman to discuss the future of atomic energy and how to achieve international control of the weapon. “Mr. President, I feel I have blood on my hands,” he said (Truman later described Oppenheimer as a “cry-baby scientist”). **

In this newsreel interview, recorded after that White House visit, Oppenheimer tells the nation that 40,000,000 people in U.S. cities could be killed overnight by atomic bombs, emphasizing that there would be no counter-measures to stop such destruction.

“The only hope for our future safety must lie in a collaboration, based on confidence and good faith, with the other peoples of the world.” – J. Robert Oppenheimer

SES’ Russell 2000 Index Listing Highlights Growing Power of North American Supply Chain

The U.S.’ development of a North American electric vehicle supply chain is continuing to attract the interest of Wall Street, with one Boston-headquartered company being added to the Russell 2000 Index.

SES (NYSE: SES) will join Russell’s ranking, which tracks the largest U.S. companies by market capitalization, beginning on June 26, according to a press release put out by the company, and confirmed by a list of company additions announced by Russell.

Founded by Dr. Qichao Hu in Boston in 2012, SES is developing an advanced Li-Metal battery solution, and using advancements in artificial intelligence to study and analyze data generated from the production process.

Three of the largest automotive giants have invested and partnered with SES: General Motors, Honda, and Hyundai, two of whom had major announcements this past week on new North American EV facilities.

The news of SES’ Russell listing arrives as GM — a longtime pillar of the U.S. automotive industry — secured half of a $442 million financing plan to build an EV facility in Quebec, Canada, according to Bloomberg. Hyundai, meanwhile, announced that it will build out a $4.3 billion EV plant in Georgia, per The New York Times.

“It is a truly fascinating time to be in this sector as the U.S. builds out a new North American supply chain to wean the world off fossil fuels,” Dr. Hu told 360 Magazine through a spokesperson.

But I still thought [her clothing] was cool because it was thrift, and things that come from places with culture and history are more important than a name brand. And I think that was taught to me through my mom, because I love all of her…like a small copper ring that she got from Nigeria. And she would add it to her outfit, and it just made so much more sense than anything that she could have purchased here, and I’m like, damn, okay, I get it. It’s energy, it’s all just energy. That’s what makes them fly.” – SZA quote regarding her mother.

Seinabo Sey - The One After Me released via 360 MAGAZINE.

Seinabo Sey – The One After Me

Capitol Records released Seinabo Sey’s The One After Me, her first album in five years. As she returns with new music, it is as an artist who has found her way back to herself and what drew her to music in the first place: R&B from her teens, the reggae music played in Gambia in the mornings, and the freedom to create on her own terms. Stream / download The One After Me HERE.

“I have been working on this album for almost five years, and I am very pleased with the result. Musically, it has been one of the biggest challenges of my life to put it together, while at the same time, I have learned so much. I have worked with people who have changed my life even more than before,” Sey explains. “I have love and therapy to thank for feeling freer to experience and explore things, both as a human being and as an artist. I have gone through a lot and rediscovered what music means to me.”

This change is reflected in the new songs, which Sey describes as the biggest musical turning point in her career. Unlike previous albums, she has chosen to collaborate with many producers and songwriters this time. She wrote “Yes,” the first single, in collaboration with Simon On The Moon (who also produced), Namasenda, Roger Tallroth, and Joakim Hultqvist. The song features the acclaimed Swedish artist Namasenda. Listen to “Yes” HERE.

“I have always liked Swedish folk music, and it has been present in almost every song I have made for this album,” Sey notes. “Simon On The Moon had this beat he was working on, and when he played it for me, I thought it was exciting to let folk music meet a hip-hop beat in an overt way. Simon is one of the few producers who would dare to do this. I also invited Namasenda to the song because I love her digital vocal production, which is a great complement to the song.”

The One After Me also features the upcoming single “42,” which is about a relationship Sey had with a person referred to as 42. She says, “It was the first person I dated who I realized was dangerous for me. The lyrics are a very straightforward description of what happened, and I sang the whole song in my bed.”

In the years following 2018’s I’m a Dream,  Sey had her first longer relationship, her first difficult breakup, and when she toured with her childhood idol Lauryn Hill at the beginning of the pandemic, it was a turning point.

“When I am in need, it is black women who save me and remind me of who I want to be. Lauryn did just that,” says Sey. “That she, who has shaped me so much musically, thinks I’m good, pushed me in the right direction again. That I should do what I feel like doing.”

As the world isolated itself during the pandemic, the music studio became the safe place where Sey could create music without pressure. She reflects, “I have learned a lot about myself in recent years. I am stronger, care less about what others think, and just want to experience life. I think it shows in the music. The melodies are a bit freer; I dare to play with them and with the words. I believe it’s a result of me being kinder to myself now. That feeling is also reflected in the lyrics.”

Sey has amassed over one billion combined global streams in her career to date, won four Swedish GRAMMY awards and topped the HypeMachine chart five times. TIME magazine hailed her 2015 debut album, Pretend, as “One of the Year’s Best Debut Albums.” Her hit single “Younger,” which was later remixed by Kygo, gained international attention. She fearlessly addressed grief, femininity, racial identity, and body image on I’m a Dream, which contained the singles “I Owe You Nothing” and “Remember” (featuring Jacob Banks). Sey’s live performances have showcased how her expressive and soulful voice can stun crowds into silence at festivals like Way Out West, Glastonbury, and Roskilde – and hypnotize audiences during TV performances on programs like “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “Later… with Jools Holland.”

Actor/model Elias Kacavas (Euphoria, Pretty Little Liars, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) graces the cover of 360 MAGAZINE as an Emerging Person.

Elias Kacavas

A Jack of All Trades

In 2016, ELIAS KACAVAS was accepted to the American University as an undergraduate medical student, hoping to one day become an orthopedic surgeon. He had no idea this was the first step to preparing for a career in showbiz.

While making the decision for his future, Elias recounted that his genuine interest and passion was acting; and thus, he confronted his family. “I had a conversation with my dad and said I am a performer. I don’t necessarily have anything to back it up, but I know that I am one,” said Elias.

Dropping out of a college program to pursue a dream, rather, following your God-given instincts is a talent in itself. Of those gritty and down-to-earth actors, Kacavas would do whatever it takes to make his voice heard. For some people, it can be perceived as arrogance, but for others, it’s a sign of harmony. His insatiable desire makes him yearn like a drop of water in Death Valley. We all emerge from adolescence with habits and behaviors that are very much in the realm of sophistication. But this ingenue is not just another manufactured product of the system. He has depth, stature, and character that nobody will ever take away from him.

The type of vulnerability that allows them to come forward without even knowing they’re there… It’s been far too long since Hollywood has witnessed a young tour de force like KACAVAS. In his spirit, he has passion and purpose substantiated by hunger. His performance in Euphoria remains one of the most talked-about episodes in the history of HBO. Let’s be honest. It’s extremely difficult to detach from Zendaya’s innate capacity to push a narrative. She literally breaks the internet with her allure and artistry. However, this time around, Kacavas longs to be greater, embracing a side many shy away from, playing a curious young man’s coming of age story. Finally, a methodical player who devotes himself to work and expresses raw emotion. He delves deeper on a journey to inspire. It’s what many refer to as je ne sais quoi. The connection between his voice and the content is genuine. It produces eloquence.

From Young Cal on Euphoria to Greg on HBO Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, the 24-year-old actor from Manchester, New Hampshire, craves to immerse himself into dramatis personae. Kacavas, living his dream with the intention, is a forever New York actor.

The newly appointed PLL’s cast member was tapped to become a part of the iconic franchise, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. On the cusp of its September release, Elias was beguiled. Mostly due to its filming in Greece; he was rooted in Greek heritage. He used the occasion to hone his native language.

All in all, it’s refreshing to be in communication with someone who has taken the road less traveled without reservation.
