KASKADE – RESONATE

Today, multi-genre artist and global dance sensation, John Summit, and eight-time GRAMMY Award-nominated musician Kaskade debut their brand new collaboration “Resonate” out now via Darkroom/Experts Only. Experts Only is a house, tech-house, and techno music label & events brand founded by Summit. Listen to “Resonate” HERE.

“Resonate,” takes listeners on an electro-musical rollercoaster kicking off with hazy vocals from electro-soul songstress Julia Church set to a hallucinogenic musical backdrop. The track builds momentum before ultimately changing the tempo for an emphatic beat drop. With Summit and Kaskade’s enhanced musical production abilities and creativity on full display, “Resonate,” is a standout track illustrating how good it can feel to be on the same page with the person you love. Both hailing from the same hometown of Chicago, the new release serves as a full circle moment for Summit who has continually noted Kaskade as a source of inspiration throughout his career.

On “Resonate,” Summit shares, “Being born and raised in Chicago myself, Kaskade was a huge inspiration & a dream collaboration of mine. Along with Julia Church’s epic vocals, we were able to merge our styles by combining emotional melodies and heavy techno production to create this dancefloor anthem.”

Additionally, Kaskade says, “It is exciting to see talent coming out of my hometown, Chicago. I’ve been keeping an eye on John Summit since he kicked the door down to be in this world, and I couldn’t be any happier for his success. I knew we would collaborate from day one, and “Resonate” is our first offering. It’s been an easy fit working and playing live with him, and I’m stoked to see what comes next.”

“Resonate” serves as the latest single off of Summit’s highly anticipated debut album Comfort in Chaos releasing Friday, July 12th. With this project, Summit reveals the man behind the icon, injecting his usual body-first approach to dance music with genuine heart and emotion. Summit strived to push himself musically and emotionally – hence tapping into a part of his identity that might not be immediately apparent to a lot of fans. Fans old and new will find moments of extraordinary beauty (and hedonism) across the album, which nods to Summit’s core Chicago house roots while touching on British genres he loves like garage, liquid and dancefloor drum & bass.

John Summit has been on a nonstop tear. He was recently announced as the brand new face of Bose and released a collaboration with dance music virtuoso and drum & bass pioneer Sub Focus, “Go Back,” featuring Julia Church, to major acclaim with the song first premiering on BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show. This Spring, he performed two electrifying sets at Coachella, including a massive solo set closing out the Sahara Tent as one of the headlining acts along with an unforgettable performance with Dom Dolla as Everything Always at the Outdoor Theatre along with two exhilarating performances at EDC (one solo and another closing out the festival B2B with Green Velvet). Additional album singles, “EAT THE BASS” and magical collaboration Shiver with hotly tipped and in demand UK artist/singer & songwriter Hayla, have made waves on dance floors everywhere. He’s set to hit the road on a global run of shows with stops in New York, Toronto, Mykonos, Ibiza and many more.

His rise in the dance music scene has been nothing short of meteoric, being the only DJ named in Forbes 30 under 30 list along with a significant callout as the next “dance music sensation” in Rolling Stone’s Future 25, selling out his first stadium headline show (22,000 tickets) at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium last December, and announcing the sell out of his June Madison Square Garden headline less than two hours after tickets went on-sale.

House of Barshai

“House of Barshai” by BARSHAI:

BARSHAI, a New York-based atelier dedicated to the art of fashion, is pleased to announce its debut collection for Resort 2025, titled “House of Barshai.” Introduced via a runway show at the Georgia Room on June 5th, 2024, the first official outing for the brand is a celebration of heritage, innovation, and unapologetic romanticism. With this debut collection, Barshai hopes to begin a paradigm shift in the realm of American evening wear and couture. Comprising 25 looks, “House of Barshai” showcases Barshai’s unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and detail-oriented innovation.

Founded by Erik Barshai, a designer committed to reviving the artistry of American couture, BARSHAI celebrates the marriage of small eccentricities and precision through collections that seamlessly blend a Victorian sensibility with a modern-day twist.

For “House of Barshai,” collection development began with a clear vision. A show about the Sasson family, a dynastic clan with roots in the 1600’s inspired the idea of a grand home, locked away from the elements, rediscovered again in the 21st century. The collection, divided into three acts, explores the interior lives of the family occupying the home and the objects that made up their lives.

BEYONCÉ’S COWBOY CARTER

Beyoncé, who has won the most Grammys ever, has set numerous records with her Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records release of her 8th studio album, Cowboy Carter [CC]. It’s the most streamed album in one day on Spotify for 2024. CC’s industry disruption is due to its 76.13 streams.

The remake of Dolly Parton’s Jolene, Protector f/ daughter Rumi Carter, Smoke Hour f/ Willie Nelson, and the duet with Miley Cyrus II Most Wanted has been highly praised by listeners.

Although the Queen has received massive pushback for not being an actual country music artist, the Bey Hive has fired back by reminding naysayers that she hails from the South. ABC News broadcasted a segment that documented her impact in the entertainment industry, highlighting her four performances at the Houston Rodeo from 2001 to 2007 (both solo and with Destiny’s Child).

Mrs. Carter’s entry into Western has brought about more attention and streams for a group of black and marginalized artists who have been ignored by the community for decades. Historically, country music is deeply rooted in African culture and black music. It is derived from bluegrass, hymns, and jug bands. Furthermore, the banjo is a musical instrument that is rooted in West African culture. A biracial musician from Greensboro, Rhiannon Giddens, who has been awarded a Grammy and Pulitzer Prize, uses a riff on the minstrel banjo for the Texas Hold’em intro. It has created a frenzy on TikTok with a line dance challenge. Moreover, Robert Randolph plays steel guitar on the emotionally charged yet epic 16 Carriages.

Manhattan Beach native Tanner Adell collaborates on Blackbiird (a remake of The Beatles), and it sounds good. She even called upon the magnificent Raye, a six-time Brit Award-winning artist, to help write Riverdance.

Overall, Beyonce is a powerful performer who continues to transcend. Her immense talent is undeniable, and regardless of whether you respect her entry into the southern secular arena, she continues to conquer.

Despite the craze surrounding Cowboy Carter, Beyonce gracefully hosted a CD signing at Tower Records in Shibuya, Japan, with her longtime bodyguard Julius, publicist Yvette Noel-Schure, and husband Jay-Z present.

Another heartfelt moment is when FAMU yodeling scholarship recipient, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and CMA performer K. Michelle tweeted a heart-felt letter bundled with a bouquet of flowers from Beyoncé. It acknowledged the former R&B diva’s transition to pop country and how both of them have had to endure harsh criticism in the male-dominated field.

SKAIWATER + LIL NAS X

Burgeoning artist/producer, skaiwater, unveils “light!” with multi-platinum award-winning artist Lil Nas X, marking Nas’ first solo feature collaboration with another artist. Produced by 9lives, the new rendition delves into the theme of young love, shedding ‘light’ on the hidden toxicity that often lurks beneath the surface. Between skaiwater’s fresh, unique storytelling and Lil Nas X’s magnetic presence, the duo is unmatched as they effortlessly fuse distinct, vibrant, and innovative styles. Of the track skaiwater shares “‘light!’ came together at the end of 2023. I wanted to try my hand at a revival of the jerk wave and when Nas heard the record he immediately wanted to put a verse down. As a longtime friend, I think him and I feel like this was the right time to collaborate.” Listen to the track HERE via Good Talk/Geffen.

Accompanying the track is a music video that transports viewers into an alternate reality where skai, Lil Nas X, and others are transplanted to a video game universe. Much like a 2-player game, relationships present challenges that must be overcome together. We navigate through levels or stages, drawing lessons from our experiences, and occasionally hitting the restart button to move forward. Watch the video HERE, premiering today at 1pm ET. skaiwater and Lil Nas X’s collaboration stretches back to early days of social  media. Their friendship blossomed, eventually leading to fruitful musical collaborations. Notably, skai’s involvement in Lil Nas X’s “Holiday” marked a significant milestone in their partnership which later led to skai joining Nas’ UK and European “Long Live Montero” tour.

In 2022, skaiwater experienced a breakout year with the release of their 11-track project, rave. This project included standout tracks like “boys don’t cry” and “miles,” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. rave resonated strongly with audiences, garnering millions of streams and making its mark on various music charts, including those on TikTok and Spotify. In the past year, skaiwater shared several tracks, including “emo hotel,” “good things,” and “good things 2” featuring Tana. These releases received support from Our Generation and RIFF Magazine, both of which praised their music for its “hypnotic beats,” attention-grabbing qualities, and “slick lyrics.” Now, with the arrival of “light!,” skaiwater is signaling a new wave of music that’s yet to come.
