GRAMMY-nominated recording artist GloRilla (CMG/Interscope Records) gets in the holiday spirits by releasing “Xmas Time” with Kehlani. Directed by Maxx and Madison, the live performance collaboration is festive, as Kehlani delivers a warm message of togetherness on the hook. At the same time, Big Glo’s playful quips and grateful attitude bring the joyous track together while performing under a blanket of snow.
“Happy Holidays to you and all your relations / and happy holidays to all our folks who couldn’t make it / I went to the North Pole to cop these bracelets / I got ice for ages, may your Christmas be amazing,” raps Glo. The warmth melts midtrack when a booming beat switch takes over the record, allowing Glo to flaunt her grizzled flow. “Certified trick, I get it from my dad,” she exclaims, again proving why her versatility is second to none.
Billboard crowned Big Glo this month as the Hottest Female Rapper of 2024. That win arrives shortly after she also was named AP’s Breakthrough Artist of 2024. Glo’s ascension into superstardom includes GLORIOUS debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and securing the highest debut week for a female rapper, numerous Hot 100 wins, including “Yeah Glo!,” “TGIF” and “Wanna Be” featuring Megan Thee Stallion and “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME” featuring Sexyy Redd. Glo also landed two Grammy nominations for her double platinum single “Yeah Glo!” in the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance categories, solidifying her stellar run this year. Most recently, she also earned the second Billboard Hot 100 top 10 song of her career as a feature on Tyler, The Creator’s “Sticky.”
GLORIOUS remains the talk of many year-end conversations for best albums, including mentions for Rolling Stone, NPR, Billboard, Rap-Up, UPROXX, and more. “TGIF” landed on best singles lists for Vulture, Time, Pitchfork, New York Times, and Rolling Stone, while “Yeah Glo!” “Wanna Be (Remix),” and WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME also made the New York Times Best Songs List. TIME also named “TGIF” the number one song of 2024. Glo covered Rolling Stone’s Musician on Musician cover with Busta Rhymes. She also popped out as a surprise guest for TDE’s Christmas Concert & Toy Drive.
After releasing two seminal projects this year, including Ehhthang Ehhthang and her debut album GLORIOUS, Glo has more than proven that she’s a surefire rap superstar who can release hit records at a prolific clip.
The climate in Ontario is famously varied. There are hot and humid summers, snowy and cold winters, ever-changing springs, and unpredictable autumns. For property owners, it means that their houses should be ready for all the seasons.
Weatherproofing your home doesn’t only mean that your house should withstand any weather conditions. It’s also about reducing energy costs and watching over your investment.
Neighbors from Ottawa experience even more extreme weather transitions. As part of their home renovations, they invest heavily into windows and doors Ottawa to prevent energy loss due to poorly sealed windows and doors.
That said, any homeowner would like to know how to renovate their property to handle ever-changing weather. Here’s what you can do to build or renovate your place.
Some insights into Southern Ontario climate
Throughout the year, the area experiences considerable temperature changes that range from -20°C in the winter to 30°C or more during the summer. High humidity, frequent rainstorms, and heavy snowfalls bring even more challenges.
Extremely low temperatures and heavy snowfalls in the winter can damage roofs, foundations, and insulation. High humidity in summer can lead to moisture-related problems like mold and warped materials. Rainfalls in spring can be the cause of floods and water intrusion.
It all might sound like there’s nothing you can do to protect your home from frequent renovations. However, by knowing what might come, you can come up with the best solutions for your property.
Most important home renovations
Insulation
A perfect house is where it’s warm in the winter and there’s cool air in the summer. And it’s all about making your home well-insulated. As we all know, Ontario’s energy costs can be pretty high, high-quality insulation can help homeowners reduce their energy bills. In fact, proper insulation can lead to a 20% reduction in the costs of heating and cooling per year.
Make sure you insulate properly the following areas:
Attics. Heat rises, meaning that if there are breaches in the attic, it’ll lead to heat loss.
Walls. They serve as barriers against outdoor temperatures. If you use spray foam or fiberglass batts, you can create a perfect barrier.
Basements. Most houses have basements where it’s cold and there’s moisture. By proper wall insulation in the basement, you can prevent mold growth.
Roofing
As roofs fall prey to heavy snow loads and intense UV rays, you should take care of choosing the right materials. Here are some roofing tips:
Choose a design that can withstand snow loads. On the stage of building a house, you should forget about a flat roof even if it looks superb. A flat roof is more prone to leaks and snow buildup. That’s why your roof should have a slope.
An asphalt shingle roof looks marvelous, but is it a rational choice? Metal roofs become increasingly popular due to their longevity and resistance to ice.
Windows
Every property owner wants to save on energy use. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a house loses about 30% of its energy through windows.
It would be smart to opt for double or triple-pane windows that can help reduce heat transfer. Moreover, you should make sure that your windows and doors are sealed with high-quality weatherstripping to block drafts.
Siding
Siding is not only a part of your house’s overall look. It’s also a shield against diverse weather conditions. Nowadays, homeowners give preference to the following siding materials:
Vinyl siding is affordable and easy-care. However, it’s not the best choice for extreme cold;
Fiber cement is marvelously durable and fire-resistant;
Wood siding is great-looking, but requires frequent maintenance.
Depending on your budget, you can find the right material that will be durable and good-looking.
Foundation
Heavy rains often come with springs. They can lead to cracks in the foundation, structural instability, and water infiltration. As Ontario’s residents are familiar with spring thaws and heavy rains, here’s how to protect the foundation:
You can apply a waterproof membrane to the walls as it’ll prevent moisture penetration;
When building a house, make sure that the land around your place slopes away from it to prevent water from collecting at the foundation;
Install French drains to manage excess water.
Gutters and downspouts
Moisture damage and dampness issues can be detrimental to your property. However, if gutters and downspouts are well-maintained, there’s nothing to worry about.
That’s why you should take care of their regular cleaning as clogs can lead to overflow. Make sure the downspouts are long to direct water away from the foundation.
HVAC
HVAC systems can bring year-round comfort. Your system should be reliable when living in a region like Southern Ontario, which has diverse weather. Here’s how to optimize the efficiency:
As winters and summers bring the most extreme weather conditions, you should schedule inspections before these seasons. This way, you’ll make sure there’s peak performance;
You can save energy by installing programmable thermostats. As temperatures can differ every day, they’ll adapt to them and save energy;
Depressurized air ducts and vents can be the cause of energy loss. You should make sure to seal ducts and vents so that there’s even heating and cooling in the house.
How to plan your weatherproofing project
A home built in the 1980s and a newly constructed home in 2023 are two different things. They both will have different weatherproofing needs. Most importantly, many things depend on the budget you have.
Start with the following steps:
Firstly, you should make an assessment of your house. You should find areas for improvement and conduct an energy audit;
If your budget is tight, you should make insulation and window upgrades a priority;
Little experience in home improvements can do more harm than good. That’s why you should hire local professionals who can suggest the most appropriate solutions.
Conclusion
Southern Ontario’s climate can be harsh from season to season. By investing in weatherproofing, you invest in comfort, energy savings, and durability. Whether you renovate your property or build a new house, you should focus on the most exposed areas. Proper insulation, reliable windows, roofing, and foundation will make your home ready for anything the weather may bring.
Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum artist Aloe Blacc officially announces his new album Stand Together (Grand Scheme Productions via Vydia, a gamma. company), set for release on 28 February 28, in partnership with the philanthropic community of the same name, whose work inspired the LP.
To celebrate the announcement of the new project, Aloe debuted the lead single “Don’t Go Alone” on Good Morning America. Stand Together, is a genre-spanning collection of 12 tracks that blend his signature soulful sound with a powerful message of unity, empathy, and resilience. Every song on the album is paired with a philanthropic cause, showcasing Aloe’s ongoing, deep commitment to using music as a catalyst for social change. From reimagining Marvin Gaye’s iconic “What’s Going On” to reflecting on the transformative power of mentorship, Stand Together weaves universal themes of hope, collaboration, and community.
The lead single, “Don’t Go Alone,” is an anthem inspired by the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The song’s reflective lyrics and uplifting rhythm encourage community leaning on one another during life’s challenges. This powerful message aligns with and was inspired by the mission of The Phoenix, a Stand Together community partner and national sober active community that provides free, active, and meaningful programming to anyone impacted by substance use. By building connections through shared experiences and mutual encouragement, The Phoenix harnesses the innate power of community and belonging as a long-term recovery model, so members can reach their full potential. This strong sober-supportive community empowers individuals in recovery to be proud of who they are —a message echoed in Aloe Blacc’s stirring anthem.
“This is the perfect song to lead this project because it reminds us of the power of connection and community,” says Aloe Blacc. “This album is a celebration of what we can achieve when we come together to support one another. Whether it’s in our relationships or as a society, we’re stronger and better when we stand together.”

Stand Together is an immaculate demonstration of an artist using his art to inspire collaboration and positive change, and showcases Aloe’s unparalleled ability to blend meaningful storytelling with genre-defying music. The album, which spans pop, R&B, and soul, features collaborations with acclaimed producers such as Stargate, Oak Felder, DJ Khalil and Hunter Hayes, all while maintaining a steadfast focus on themes of openness, empowerment, and social change. This message rings true to the album’s namesake Stand Together, a philanthropic community that works to tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems.
Elsewhere on the album, Aloe’s deeply personal “Daddy Told Me So” reflects on the lessons passed from one generation to the next, while “Not on My Watch” honours the teachings of the late Harry Belafonte, advocating for vigilance and peace in the fight for justice. Other standout tracks include a reimagining of Marvin Gaye’s iconic “What’s Going On,” examining societal divisions and calling for collective reflection; “Grow Together,” a celebration of urban farming and community-building inspired by organizations like Bonton Farms; and “One Good Thing,” co-written with Hunter Hayes and inspired by a powerful story from Harry Belafonte about finding common ground to create meaningful change.
KSIhas dropped his electrifying new single “Dirty,” out now via Warner Records. Listen HERE.
With haunting production by Matt Zara (Mabel, Niall Horan, Diplo) and lyrics penned by an all-star team, “Dirty” plunges into the turmoil of a toxic, all-consuming relationship. The track captures the agony and ecstasy of being irresistibly drawn to someone you know is no good for you. The brooding, gritty soundscape mirrors the chaos and emotional conflict of this dangerous infatuation.
KSI says: “I wanted “Dirty” to capture that raw, messy emotion of being in a relationship that’s as intoxicating as it is destructive. It’s about that push and pull—the chaos you feel when you can’t let go, even though you know it’s breaking you. The female vocal (who I’m not allowed to say) brings a haunting energy to the track, and I think it’s going to have people talking. I love creating music that sparks conversation and connects with people on a surface or deeper level, and “Dirty” definitely does exactly that.”
“Dirty” follows the massive success of KSI’s Top 10 for five consecutive weeks and Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Thick of It,” which solidified his status as a global streaming powerhouse with over 8 million monthly listeners. Multi-platinum, 12-time Grammy Award-winner John Legend has partnered with YouTube sensation and early childhood educator Ms. Rachel for a special collaboration on his latest single, “L-O-V-E,” from his new album My Favorite Dream, out now via Republic Records: Kids & Family. The original version of the bright, up-tempo anthem, which features backing vocals from Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, and their two oldest children, Luna and Miles Stephens, has been reimagined with Ms. Rachel’s signature blend of wonder and learning, perfectly complementing Legend’s soulful vocals in this heartwarming rendition, celebrating love, joy, and connection. Watch the video HERE. Stream/download My Favorite DreamHERE.
“L-O-V-E” is one of my favorite tracks on this album because it’s about celebrating our shared humanity, and I wanted to share that message with someone who brings joy and learning to so many families,” says Legend. “Ms. Rachel is a superstar in our home. My babies are thrilled to see me performing with her. It was an honor to sing with someone whose work has meant so much to my own children and millions of families around the world.”
“It was such a joy to sing with John on this beautiful version of ‘L-O-V-E’” says Ms. Rachel. “I’ve been a huge fan of his music for years, and being part of this reimagined track from his children’s album is so special. A dream come true! Music has a unique way of bringing families together, and I hope this rendition inspires connection for both children and parents. I love singing it with Mr. Aron and my son Thomas!”.
My Favorite Dream is an album of sing-alongs and lullabies for children and families, largely inspired by Legend’s own experiences as a father to four children. He wrote nine original tracks for the album, which features themes and lyrics shaped by conversations and life messages he shared with his children ranging from the power of love (“L-O-V-E”) to family (“We’re a Family”), comfort (“Always Come Back”) and dealing with sadness (“When I Feel Sad”). In addition to original music, the album features reinterpretations of popular songs including “Three Little Birds” and “You Are My Sunshine.”
Legend co-executive produced My Favorite Dream with singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens, who also doubled as the project’s producer. In crafting the album, Legend wanted the first half to mirror the “catchy and fun” rhythm and energy of the music classes that his children attend, where they sing along and play percussive instruments. In turn, the latter half exudes a more calming, ready-for-bed vibe. Unlike previous albums, which Legend typically writes in a studio setting, he crafted My Favorite Dream at home on the family piano, with his wife and children often nearby for inspiration.
Ahead of his collaboration with Ms. Rachel, Legend announced his “A John Legend Christmas” tour, which will bring the spirit of the holiday season to select venues across the U.S. this December. Kicking off on December 2 in Highland, CA, the 12-date tour will include stops in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, and Atlantic City, before wrapping up in Hanover, MD on December 21. Accompanied by a four-piece band, Legend will perform holiday classics from his hit album, A Legendary Christmas, including “This Christmas,” “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “Silver Bells,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire).” The shows will also feature intimate storytelling moments, during which Legend will reflect on his career, family, and the stories behind the music.
