KATSEYE – EP SIS

KATSEYE – the first-ever global girl group formed using KPOP artist development methodologies – released its debut EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong), today via HYBE x Geffen Records. Reflecting one of KATSEYE’s core beliefs – Soft Is Strong – the EP’s title also nods to the sisterhood they’ve forged, despite coming from immensely different cultures. The six members of KATSEYE are: DANIELA (USA); LARA (USA); MANON (Switzerland); MEGAN (USA); SOPHIA (Philippines); and YOONCHAE (South Korea). Download / stream SIS (Soft Is Strong) HERE.

Premiering August 21, the Netflix docuseries “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE” is a compelling portrayal of the members’ journey to global stardom, including insight into the unique training and development program from HYBE and Geffen Records. The series was directed by Nadia Hallgren (Becoming) and produced by HYBE, Interscope Films and Boardwalk Pictures. PEOPLE, which premiered the trailer for the series, observed, “Popstar Academy: KATSEYE pulls back the curtain on one of the most fascinating phenomenons in the music industry.”

The group will perform its aptly titled first single, “Debut” – which Rolling Stone hailed as one of the “Songs You Need to Know” – on “GMA3” on Tuesday, August 20. Teen Vogue , which published the first interview with KATSEYE’s six members, observed, “[‘Debut’] sees the group taking mainstream pop head-on.” Earlier this month, the group performed “Touch” on “Good Morning America.” View HERE. The dreamy “Touch,” which was produced by Blake Slatkin, Cashmere Cat, Omer Fedi and Taka Perry, finds KATSEYE pondering the complexities of love, wounded feelings and rediscovering one’s self-worth.

The five-song EP also includes the beautiful piano ballad “My Way,” which captures the authentic stories of KATSEYE’s members and how they’ve confidently blazed their own paths in life with resilience and strength.

The track was produced by HYBE founder “hitman” bang, Slow Rabbit and Federico Vindver.

The uplifting “I’m Pretty” juxtaposes heavy 808 drums and angelic harmonies as KATSEYE celebrates the transformative power of self-healing. “Tonight I Might,” a vibrant pop track with electro-dance flair infused with a rebellious, adventurous spirit, closes out the EP.

Earlier this month, KATSEYE emailed assorted images to fans, challenging them to work with one another to uncover the titles of the songs on the EP ahead of the tracklist reveal on Instagram. Fans quickly began “claiming” their favorite titles.

Unforgettable Highlights from Olympic Competitions in Paris

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games became an extraordinary event marked by incredible athletic achievements and historic moments. Among these were the University of Kentucky Wildcats, whose athletes showcased unparalleled dominance and skill.

Record-Breaking Performance by Kentucky Wildcats

The 2024 Paris Olympics saw a record-breaking achievement by the University of Kentucky Wildcats. A school-record 11 athletes from Kentucky earned a total of 13 medals, which included nine gold, two silver, and two bronze.

This accomplishment not only highlighted their athletic prowess but also set a new standard for the University. The Wildcats’ contribution was so significant that if they were considered a nation, their 10 medals would place them 21st on the Nations Medal Table, with their six golds ranking 14th. This record-setting performance was a testament to their dominance across multiple sports.

Among the medals won, American Wildcats contributed significantly to Team USA’s world-leading medal count, with nine of the 40 golds and 126 total medals. Their performance underlined the crucial role Kentucky athletes played in securing the United States’ position at the top of the medal table. The Wildcats’ involvement in such a broad spectrum of sports emphasizes their versatility and commitment to excellence.

Individual Achievements of Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats shined particularly brightly in track and field events. Five Wildcats earned six medals in this category, reinforcing the University of Kentucky’s reputation as a powerhouse in athletics.

Among these, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone repeated her gold medal performance in the 400-meter hurdles, setting a world-record time, while Masai Russell claimed gold in the 100m hurdles. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who previously won gold in Tokyo, secured a bronze in Paris. The Wildcats’ success in these events solidified their status as “Hurdle U.”

Basketball also proved to be a stronghold for the Wildcats, with four athletes medaling in the sport. The men’s basketball team, featuring Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, and Anthony Davis, secured a gold medal, while Rhyne Howard earned a bronze in Women’s 3×3 basketball.

This marked the fifth consecutive Olympiad where UK men’s basketball players brought home gold, further establishing the Wildcats’ legacy in the sport.

Notably, Anthony Davis became the only player on Team USA to have won two Olympic gold medals, an NCAA National Championship, and an NBA Championship.

Lee Kiefer, a University of Kentucky College of Medicine student, delivered a stunning performance in fencing, winning two gold medals in women’s foil — both individual and team events. Kiefer, who competed collegiately at Notre Dame, has now become a three-time Olympic gold medalist. Her success underscores the broad reach of the University of Kentucky’s athletic program, extending even to sports not typically associated with the SEC.

Wildcats’ Impact on Southeastern Conference

Kentucky’s impact was also felt on the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Medal Table, where the Wildcats ranked second. However, this ranking does not include Lee Kiefer’s two golds, as fencing is not a varsity sport within the SEC. Despite this, the Wildcats’ dominance in the SEC was clear, with their athletes consistently outperforming their rivals in multiple disciplines.

The University of Kentucky’s influence spanned across various sports beyond the SEC, with Wildcats participating in events like volleyball, where Avery Skinner earned a silver medal with Team USA. Additionally, Ashley Kovacs, a former UK thrower, played a pivotal role as a coach for the USA Athletics/Track and Field team, guiding two athletes to medal victories in the discus and hammer throw events.

Historic Representation and Achievements

The 2024 Olympics marked a historic moment for the University of Kentucky, with their athletes representing 16 countries over the years, and for the first time, an athlete represented South Sudan. This diverse representation highlights the global reach and influence of Kentucky’s athletic program.

The Wildcats also surpassed their previous records for Olympic participation. A school-record 24 University of Kentucky student-athletes, alumni, and coaches represented nine countries across six sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This surpassed the previous record of 20 competitors and coaches from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The participation of these athletes not only set a new benchmark for the University but also demonstrated the sustained excellence of Kentucky’s athletic programs.

Kentucky’s Legacy in the Olympics

2024 marked the eighth consecutive Olympiad featuring a Wildcat in track and field events, a streak that began with Tim Harden in the 1996 Atlanta Games. This consistent presence underscores Kentucky’s long-standing tradition of excellence in athletics, particularly in track and field, where they have established themselves as a dominant force.

The legacy of Kentucky’s basketball program continued to shine at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Wildcats’ streak of winning gold medals in men’s basketball now spans five consecutive Olympiads. This tradition of success, marked by the achievements of players like Anthony Davis and Bam Adebayo, solidifies Kentucky’s status as a breeding ground for basketball excellence.

In addition to their athletes’ success, Kentucky also made significant contributions through coaching. Ashley Kovacs, who was part of the UK Track and Field team, coached multiple medalists, including her husband Joe Kovacs, to a third-straight Olympic silver in the shot put. Her expertise and leadership played a crucial role in Team USA’s overall success in the athletics events.

Notable Wildcat Athletes and Their Contributions

Lee Kiefer’s achievements in fencing were among the standout moments for the Wildcats in Paris. Her gold medals in both individual and team foil events not only added to her illustrious career but also brought significant recognition to the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Kiefer’s success is a testament to her skill and dedication, making her one of the most decorated athletes associated with the University.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s performance in the 400-meter hurdles was nothing short of extraordinary. She not only defended her Olympic title but did so in world-record time, further cementing her status as one of the greatest hurdlers of all time. Her achievement is a proud moment for the University of Kentucky, which continues to produce world-class athletes in track and field.

Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis added to their already impressive resumes with gold medals in men’s basketball. Their success in Paris continued a legacy that has seen Kentucky Wildcats dominate the sport at the Olympic level. For Davis, the Paris Games were particularly special, as he became the only player on Team USA to have won two Olympic golds, an NCAA National Championship, and an NBA Championship.

Wildcats’ Contribution to Team USA

The Wildcats’ impact was particularly notable in team events, where their athletes played pivotal roles in securing victories for Team USA. In basketball, three Wildcats contributed to the men’s gold medal, while the women’s 4x400m relay team, featuring Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Alexis Holmes, won gold with an American record time. These performances highlight the importance of Kentucky athletes in team dynamics and their ability to deliver under pressure.

Kentucky Wildcats earned medals across a range of sports, from track and field to fencing, basketball, and volleyball. This diversity in medal wins showcases the broad talent pool at the University of Kentucky and their ability to excel in various disciplines at the highest level of competition.

The success of Kentucky athletes in Paris is a reflection of the University’s robust athletic program, which has consistently produced top-tier talent capable of competing and winning on the world stage. The Wildcats’ achievements at the 2024 Olympics not only brought glory to the University but also enhanced its reputation as a premier institution for nurturing athletic excellence.

A Glorious Chapter in Kentucky Wildcats’ History

The 2024 Paris Olympics will be remembered as a golden chapter in the history of Kentucky Wildcats athletics. With a record number of participants and medalists, the University of Kentucky has set new standards for success. The Wildcats’ performance in Paris is a source of pride for the University and a benchmark for future generations of athletes to aspire to.

The Wildcats’ Enduring Olympic Legacy

The 2024 Paris Olympics reinforced the University of Kentucky’s status as a powerhouse in the world of sports. From record-breaking medal hauls to historic firsts, the Wildcats’ athletes, coaches, and alumni made indelible marks across multiple disciplines.

Their contributions to Team USA and other nations exemplify the high level of training, dedication, and excellence that define Kentucky athletics. As the Wildcats continue to build on their legacy, the future holds even more promise for this iconic institution in the world of sports.

Chef Daniele Sera

Introducing Chef Daniele Sera and Tosca Restaurant at Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel, Tuscany

Italian-born and raised, Chef Daniele Sera spent his childhood years between Liguria and Tuscany, greatly influenced by the abundant produce of the diverse landscape and by his mother, who passed her passion for cooking to him. His culinary ethos expresses his deep connection with his Tuscan-Ligurian roots, a passion for the finest seasonal ingredients, and a great appreciation for local farms and artisan producers.

His experiences span 40 years of travelling and working in Michelin-starred kitchens, including Le Jardin at the Hotel Royal Monceau in Paris, Domaine Les Crayères in Reims, and Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence. These gave him the skills to represent his home country in international kitchens and competitions. In 2011 the time came to lead his own kitchen when he accepted a position as Executive Chef at the medieval farm estate of Castello di Casole in his home region of Tuscany.

Over the years, Chef Daniele, along with Executive Sous Chef Michele Raggi, his right hand man for the past 17 years, have curated exceptional menus that pay homage to the best of the region and the property’s 1,300-hectare surroundings. Their skills and experience meld perfectly with their innate understanding of one of Italy’s most celebrated regions, complemented by the estate’s sustainable practices.

Nestled within the castle estate, the fine dining venue Tosca showcases Chef Daniele’s relationship with local farmers and fishermen, along with his farm-to-table philosophy focusing on seasonality and appreciation for pure ingredients. Working hand in hand with the estate’s gardeners, Daniele grows the produce to maximise sustainable food production. Resulting in dishes averaging three ingredients, created with respect to the flavour and nature of the produce, evoking memories of a stunning landscape.

The food offering follows a farm-to-table concept where biodiversity and experimentation take centre stage with seasonal cultivation rotating more than one hundred varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and edible flowers, ranging from rare peculiarities from all over the world to the classics of traditional gardens, such as artichokes, lavender, radishes and more.

Menu highlights include the likes of squid stuffed with Certaldo onion and Mugello potato cream; cappellaci pasta filled with ‘pappa al pomodoro’, mozzarella and basil; and roasted quail with garden roots, aromatic herbs, and vin santo reduction among others. Dishes are complemented by estate-grown red wine, honey, and olive oil as Castello di Casole aims to achieve and maximise complete self-sufficiency.

FAST FRIENDS

Hellen Obiri and Sinta Vissa Team Up in “The Heart to Race.”

On‘s ‘Dream Together’ short film series continues with a thrilling second episode of speed, spirit, and an unusual friendship.

As the world gears up for the Olympics in Paris, On is excited to release “The Heart to Race,” the second episode of its ‘Dream Together’ short film series. The film delves into the inspiring bond between On Athletics Club athletes Hellen Obiri from Kenya and Italian Sinta Vissa, highlighting the profound impact of their camaraderie on their athletic journeys.

When Kenyan superstar Hellen Obiri and Sinta Vissa, a young Italian runner with Ethiopian roots, met at the On Athletics Club in Boulder in 2022, it marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Obiri had newly arrived in the USA and was without her husband and daughter Tanya for the first months of her time with the On Athletics Club. Vissa had just transitioned from college running to the professional team.

“We just kind of clicked”, Vissa remembers. “We were cooking together, playing some Kenyan music. Everyone sees her as this big G.O.A.T., but she is very funny. Silly faces, that’s her to me. She’s an idol, but she is also a teammate and friend. I can’t keep up with her, but she does give me that push,” she laughs.

“Even though Sinta is young, she brings something that can help me in my running. I told her, ‘Your parents are far away, so I will be your parent here.’ I see her as my little girl, and we have respect for each other,” Obiri adds.

”The Heart to Race” centers around their bond, which clearly transcends a typical mentor-mentee relationship and showcases the powerful and transformative nature of genuine support and shared experiences.

It chronicles both Vissa and Obiri going through crushing defeats, like the 34-year-old’s first attempt at the marathon distance, which did not end in victory but in a wheelchair. Both persevere, and Vissa watches her friend and idol bounce back from a difficult start to her marathon career to storm to triumphant victories. With the Paris Olympics as their shared goal, Hellen Obiri and Sinta Vissa inspire the world of athletics by emphasizing that dreams become reality when pursued together.

Directed by acclaimed director J.M. Harper, the film features passages in English, Italian, and Gusii.

“We created this film series to celebrate the remarkable journeys of our athletes and their support systems, showcasing that the path to excellence is forged together,” says Michael Paul Stephenson, On’s Head of Film and Documentary.

“Through intimate, high-access filmmaking, our dream was to offer unique insight into the lives and character of world-class champions in ways we haven’t seen before,” adds Stephenson. “Our second episode, ‘The Heart to Race,’ is more than just a film about running; it’s about the profound human connections that move us. Through Hellen and Sinta’s journey, we aim to celebrate the bonds that elevate us, both on and off the track.”
