LV MEN’S FW23

Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Fall-Winter 2023 Show and Collection. In collaboration with KidSuper’s Colm Dillane, this collection was inspired by the formative moments of upbringing and the rites of passage from childhood to adulthood.

The looks draw on themes inherent to Louis Vuitton men’s practice: formative development and the universal human experiences that unite us across geography and cultures. Evaluating the impact of the digital age, nods to connectivity are further explored through techniques, motifs, and silhouettes. The show featured a moving performance by artist Rosalía, her innovative musical fusions and distinctive style heightening the core philosophy of the collection.

The show’s stage was based on the ideology of “growing up”, and French filmmakers Michel and Olivier Gondry constructed a house in which a boy’s first stages of life unfolded, culminating in adulthood, where memories and experiences of the inner child remain eternally present.

Dolce&Gabbana Fall Winter 2023 2024 men's via 360 MAGAZINE.

Dolce&Gabbana FW

The new Dolce&Gabbana Fall/Winter 23/24 Men’s fashion show explores The Essence of Dolce&Gabbana.

What exemplifies this essence are the purity of the volumes, the tailored cut, the innovative proportions, the selection of Italian fabrics and silks, and the craftsmanship of the “fatto a mano” (the handmade), through which the values of Italy’s cultural heritage can be recognized.

A considerable exaggeration in the silhouettes and lines articulate the synthesis of perfect cut.

Superstructures of girdles/corsets and bands/sashes that emphasize the waist revive elements of the FW 1999/00 collection, along with the micro-shirts and the double waist trousers.

Black is the absolute protagonist: it represents reservedness, elegance, rigor and seduction. Expressed in various materials, it reveals to the touch and to the eye its own characteristic light and sensuality.

Black always provokes profoundly unique experiences and sensations, even as it is lit up by embroidered crystals in the same color that recall the wet volcanic rock of Etna and Stromboli.

This is the unique essence of Dolce&Gabbana.

Front row guests included Machine Gun Kelly, Blanco, Tony Effe, Twins Hadban, Abdulla Al Abdulla, Mariano Di Vaio, Palayo Diaz.

STEVEN KLEIN

Edited and with an essay by Mark Holborn

The first comprehensive monograph of Klein’s photographs, whose subversive and powerful images have captivated viewers globally for decades.

Phaidon is pleased to announce the highly anticipated first monograph by director, videographer and photographer Steven Klein, available this Fall. This monograph is the first to be published of a selection of work by Klein.

In challenging the conventions of the printed page, Steven Klein has created some of the most defining images of our time. The avant-garde images conceived by Klein impress for their power, brutal strength and fetishism, as a result of his deep insight and surgically meticulous approach. Through a vast range of work, Klein has developed a singular visual language that is at once eerie, violent, irritating, disturbing, and, miraculously, beautiful and compelling. Klein’s images demand that viewers confront the questions that they provoke.

In the introductory essay, Mark Holborn sets the stage by describing the series that opens and closes the book, ‘Death Kit YSL,’ which Klein made during enforced lockdown. Holborn uses this notable YSL collaboration as an example to how a singular image builds into one, cohesive narrative. The story, according to Holborn’s introduction is a murder-filled movie:

You will find more than mere suggestions of something
you’ve never dreamed of. Steven Klein’s work is explicit as well as suggestive. We are presented with fiction that is simultaneously of our time, a response to the exterior world, and a display of the working of his imagination. We are offered a psychological map, if not a fully declared self-portrait.

Holborn elegantly situates Klein’s images and Klein’s own psychological landscape. The essay is both biographical and speculative, revealing how Klein thinks of his camera as a weapon, himself a voyeur – obsessive and predatory. For both the subjects and viewer, the realization of his pursuit intentionally evokes pure terror or pleasure. “To open this book is to enter criminal territory,” Holborn writes, “here, the police are busy. Transgression, too, has its allure.”

Over the course of 450 pages, the book unfolds like a film narrative with scenes of gender fluidity, self-harm, gun flaunting, pyromania, murder, arrests, car crashes, body contortions, and genital display. These reoccurring motifs exist as standalone vignettes, but also as a sequence of images feeding off each other, slowly building towards one overwhelming, climatic drama. By the end of the book, all the different threads of Klein’s creative life come to a resolution. His photo series conveyed epic narratives, mostly subversive, in which movement and static elements are explored and merged.

More than 280 reproduced photographs showcase Klein’s creations and illuminate a part of his expansive, singular vision. A figure on the world’s artistic stage, Klein pushes the boundaries of traditional fashion photography and expands its presence in the worlds of art and culture. Klein’s lens utilizes fashion as a raw material and uses it as one of many components to construct his narratives. By doing so, he blurs preexisting borders and creates something wholly and radically new. Klein is a long-time collaborator with Vogue and works with houses such as Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, and Alexander McQueen.

Klein’s compositions of his models, actors, famous figures, and a wide swath of disparate subject matter are characterized by an enigmatic sense. The subjects of much of his work are well known – from Madonna and Brad Pitt to Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna. Yet, Klein is not defined by fame or celebrity status but rather redefines this subject matter within his own uncanny, sinister visual world. In Klein’s hands, these figures are placed into implied stories that are conceptually complex, sometimes graphic, but always lyrical. With his art education and practice in painting and pottery, Klein’s work is a powerful statement echoing an interdisciplinary understanding of visual art.

STEVEN KLEIN presents a fiction that is both a response to the exterior world and a display of the workings of Klein’s imagination. His photographs are filled with superlative style, the scent of wealth, the threat of danger, and always brief captions. The repeated reinforcement of the book’s structure allows characters, themes, and ideas to appear, vanish, then reappear. A balance is achieved throughout – masculine and feminine, exposed and covered, flesh and metal, human and animal, seduction, and violence.

Elle features Regé-Jean Page on Canadian cover via 360 MAGAZINE.

Regé-Jean Page × ELLE

KO Media is excited to unveil the November issue of ELLE Canada, featuring British-Zimbabwean actor Regé-Jean Page. The star, who was catapulted to fame thanks the Netflix’s steamy hit show, Bridgerton, and is now the face of Giorgio Armani Code Parfum, tells us about working hard to portray a different type of maleness on-screen: “People think of masculinity and they think of strength, but we need to redefine what strength means. Is it an unwillingness to bend, or is there strength in vulnerability, in being able to listen and adapt?” He also aims to bring that nuanced point of view behind the camera. “As a producer, you have a voice in the conversations about what the story will represent and what themes to explore. It’s like adding a couple more strings to the guitar,” says Page.

For this issue, we spotlight women leading the way in their field by sitting down with the likes of Indigenous actor Kaniehtiio Horn, who grew up on Kahnawàke Mohawk Territory just outside of Montreal and has become a rising star, stealing the screen in shows like Letterkenny and Reservation DogsCurve model and musician Yumi Nu tells us about returning to music, while we go back to the roots with Jamaican performing artist SHENSEEA to discover what makes her tick in her revamped play on dancehall. We hit the books this month too, as Canadian poet Rupi Kaur talks about her new collection and international tour, and author Kate Beaton delves into the emotional and ecological damage left behind by Alberta’s oil sands, in a new graphic memoir.

It’s also a big moment on the beauty front, thanks to our 2022 Beauty Grand Prix sure to fight November grays with tons of juror-favourite picks, while musician Alicia Keys lets us in on her relationship with makeup and personal rituals. Brands display their rising advocacy in this issue, as Lancôme gives a behind-the-scenes look at how they’re putting inclusivity front-and-centre, YSL Beauty breaks down their new global sustainability initiative built around the planet and its people alike, and Toronto-based Céla puts Canadian plants in the spotlight. We also look at a different side of skincare by exploring its importance in the lives of cancer patients preparing for treatment.

In the style—and lifestyle—department, our editors let individuality take over hair-wise by showcasing cuts that highlight self-expression, and layered fall fashions paint the season with a splash of colour and textures galore. Owner of The Studio MTL and personal trainer, Val Desjardins, shares tips to get into top shape during these seasonal changes, while British actor Lucy Boyton makes her mark on-screen and in our pages, and French glamour queen Marion Cotillard lets us in on her fashion musings from the front row of the Chanel haute-couture Fall/Winter 2022/2023 Paris show. Finally, we slow down a bit by checking in for a quick trip to Rome and find out more about TikTok sensation Alexis Nikole Nelson, who details changes in the foraging community.

The November issue of ELLE Canada will hit stands and Apple News+ on October 24, 2022.
