Pop Princess ILIRA is No Damsel in Distress
Feminine and feisty, singer ILIRA is the heroic heroine of her own life story. In her new anthem, “Do !t Yourself,” the singer ditches storybook clichés and encourages fellow females to declare their independence.
A concoction of bouncy beats and upbeat fizzy pop, “Do !t Yourself” is a proclamation that women are capable of being much more than damsels in distress. The pop princess claims “girls ain’t gotta be the sweet and helpless type,” and create their own happy endings.
Raised in a small Swiss town by Kosovo-Albanian parents, ILIRA developed her signature rebellious attitude at a very young age while struggling to find her place in an environment with clashing cultures. It was during this time the singer learned how to fight her own battles, often finding resilience in music.
Described by Clash Music as “an artist destined for a long and promising run,” “Do !t Yourself” follows ILIRA’s feature on catchy club hit “Fading” by Alle Farben and in-your-face bop, “Get off My D!ck.”

“Better By Myself” is the first new music the Los Angeles-based alt-pop band has released since
their critically acclaimed 2017 debut album From the Outside.
Hey Violet release a new single “Better By Myself” today on Hi or Hey/Capitol Records and available for streaming and purchase from all digital partners. In addition, an official video for the song, directed by Marcella Cytrynowicz, debuts today. Watch it HERE. “Better By Myself” which was co-written by Hey Violet, Gabe Simon, and producer Daniel Nigro, is the first of four new tracks the band is set to release throughout the Spring and Summer.
“Better By Myself” captures the duality inherent in feeling invincible in solitude because you don’t need anyone, but recognizing that perhaps being totally alone isn’t necessarily the best path forward. “It’s about being in an unhealthy relationship and having the courage to leave, but realizing maybe you’re isolating a little much,” says Hey Violet frontwoman Rena Lovelis. “I think we need to fall in love with ourselves before we fall in love with anybody else and that’s why the song sounds so celebratory. It’s about finding that happy medium between I don’t need anyone, which tends to be a defense mechanism, and being truly okay with yourself.”
Hey Violet’s 2017 debut album From the Outside featured the singles “Guys My Age,” which has amassed over 230 million global streams, “Break My Heart,” and “Hoodie,” which is approaching 200 million streams. The album racked up critical praise, including accolades from The New York Times, which called it “one of this year’s best and most provocative pop albums.” Stereogum noted that it “has plenty of attitude thanks to Lovelis’ vocal and lyrical presence,” and NYLON declared, “I challenge you to find a debut album as explosive and technicolored as Hey Violet’s From The Outside (the album) pulses with cheeky hooks and middle fingers to the status quo. “Makeup,” which is packed with emotion and reflection, is the singer’s first single with Republic Records. The track follows his previously released tracks “Round n Round” feat. BMG TO RELEASE MUCH-ANTICIPATED BILLY RAY CYRUS ALBUM THE SNAKEDOCTOR CIRCUS MAY 24
While Billy Ray Cyrus shares the No. 1 song on all music streaming platforms worldwide with the remix of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” Cyrus is equally excited about the release of his long-planned album, The SnakeDoctor Circus. Cyrus and BMG planned to release the concept record on May 24 long before the phenomenon of “Old Town Road.”
“Life is a series of adjustments. I’ve been working on this album, The SnakeDoctor Circus, for more than two years now. In January this year, my label, BMG, had planned and scheduled the release of this album May 24. Twenty-seven days ago, I heard a song from Lil Nas X and felt the injustice of the way he was being treated. You just don’t pull the rug out from under someone like that. He impacted a worldwide psyche and touched a universal harmony. That’s when I made the adjustment in my schedule, went to the studio, wrote a new verse and sang on ‘Old Town Road’ with Lil Nas X,” said Cyrus.
Cyrus recorded The SnakeDoctor Circus in Muscle Shoals, Alabama with some of the most respected musicians, including Cyrus’ longtime collaborator and songwriting mentor, Don Von Tress, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Dewey Lyndon “Spooner” Oldham (piano), Nashville Musician’s Hall of Fame Member Will McFarlane, as well as David Hood (bass guitar), Kelvin Holly (electric/acoustic/bass guitar), Bekka Bramlett (vocals, tambourine), Kimi Samson (violin, viola, piano), Caleb Elliott (cello), Will McFarlane (electric guitar), James LeBlanc (electric guitar), Mike ‘Dillon’ Curington (drums), John Brannen (acoustic guitar, harmonica), Shonna Tucker (bass guitar), Angela Hacker (vocals), Larry Byrom (piano), Mick Utley (piano), Johnny Monteagle (drums, baritone sax, synth) and Jimmy Nutt (acoustic/electric guitars, tambourine, percussion). It’s a full circle moment for Cyrus because Von Tress wrote the multi-platinum smash “Achy Breaky Heart” on Cyrus’ record-breaking debut album Some Gave All. Cyrus penned “Some Gave All” about a Vietnam veteran in 1989 only to meet Von Tress, whom is also a Vietnam veteran, a few years later. The collaboration between the two songwriting titans more than 25 years ago continues with new music on The SnakeDoctor Circus.
