Coinciding with his empire state-themed mixtape, Lil Tjay will be donating to The Bronx Defenders, an organization that is innovating and pushing boundaries of what a public defender is and fighting on the front lines for justice every day. The cause hits close to home and is a big passion of Tjay’s, as they once helped fight the system in a case that he was involved in. He will personally be donating gift cards to help the formerly incarcerated clients and their families buy essentials, along with masks for the defenders as they continue their fight for the release of people at high risk for health complications if they contract COVID-19. Since the onset of the health crisis, The Bronx Defenders have been able to secure the release of over 100 clients who were being held in jails and ICE detention.

“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, low-income black and brown communities like the Bronx have been hit the hardest. This is a community that depends heavily on public transportation, encompasses countless essential workers, and is over criminalized into a legal system that crams people into jail cells where the virus is rampant. We are working tirelessly on behalf of our clients to stem the worst of this pandemic, but we can’t do it alone. We’re so thankful to have allies like Lil Tjay giving back to their community so that our clients can access basic necessities like protective masks, groceries, and medicine in this time of crisis. We will get through this if we continue having each other’s backs.”  – Justine Olderman, Executive Director of Bronx Defenders.

220 KID & GRACEY

Picking the perfect Mother’s Day gift that manages to land squarely between ‘thoughtful’ and ‘affordable’, while also showing true gratitude is a challenge at the best of times let alone trying to do it in the middle of a global pandemic, trapped in isolation with mum looking over your shoulder.

But despite the lockdown measures in place, Australian pop group Sheppard have managed to pull together the ultimate mother’s day surprise in secret, all while trapped in isolation, with their mum Linda in the room next door.

“Flowers, wine, chocolates; they’re all great gifts to celebrate your mum, but this year we wanted to take a more personal approach” said Sheppard singer Amy Sheppard. “For the past few months we’ve been covertly working on writing and recording “Thank You”, a song that celebrates our amazing mum, Linda.”

Filled with signature Sheppard sounds, pop hooks and lyrics that openly and honestly recount memorable moments from the bands childhood and teenage years, “Thank You” is all in the title: a deeply personal thank you message to their mum this Mother’s Day.

“Our mum has been such an incredibly important member of our band. She’s always been there behind the scenes as a silent helping hand, making life easier for us in any way she can. Said George Sheppard “This year we couldn’t get out of the house to physically buy her a gift or to take her to lunch, so this Mother’s Day we wanted to do something a bit different. We wrote “Thank You” to our mum (all mums all over the world really) as a song of gratitude – not just for putting up with us in isolation these past few weeks, but for looking after us for our entire lives!”

Written by the band’s core writing team of George and Amy Sheppard and guitarist Jay Bovino, the band’s sixth release from their forthcoming album is more than just a thank you to their mum, it’s proof that it’s the thought that counts on Mother’s Day.

“Our mum is like an extra member of the band. She’s been by our side for some of the most important moments of our career, from playing in stadiums, festivals and clubs in over 60 countries around the world. Said Emma Sheppard “We’ve spent A LOT of time in airports and horrible hotels over the years and she’s always been there supporting us. We’re beyond lucky to have her on board!”

Released track by track, month by month, and accompanied by music videos, art and content splashed across the bands social channels; Sheppard’s forthcoming 2020 release will slowly begin to take shape over the coming months.

‘Thank You’ is the band’s sixth release from the forthcoming album.

220 Kid and GRACEY have dropped the official video for their chart-infiltrating single “Don’t Need Love,” watch HERE.

The gripping video explores the trials and tribulations of being in a relationship in the 21st century – when technology rules all. The visuals are therefore composed of phone selfies and screengrabs of conversations, ideally complementing the modern pop vibe of the track itself.

“Don’t Need Love” has just passed 18.5 million cumulative global streams. It charted at #38 in the UK Singles chart and currently sits inside the Top 30 of the midweeks after being placed on the BBC Radio 1 A-list playlist, The Capital B List and the Kiss FM playlist. It also reached #15 in the Spotify UK viral chart and got the remix treatment by UKG don Majestic. “Don’t Need Love” currently sits at #5 at Dance Radio in the US and can be heard on countless playlists worldwide, such as Pop Rising and Mint.

A producer, writer and DJ, 220 Kid adopted the name after running 220 miles in bright pink pants for charity, after his beloved godfather passed away. He was soon scouted as a model and has worked for the likes of Vogue, GQ, Nike, Reebok and others, while continuing to develop his sound. His broad musical ability has allowed him to write and produce with a wide range of artists and producers, including Grades, Sheppard, CamelPhat, Walking on Cars, Alpines and Maverick Sabre.
GRACEY arrived in 2019 with debut single “Different Things,” a slow-burning, heart-breaking introduction that instantly caught fire with fans and critics across the board. The track has received over 1 million streams on Spotify alone.

The 21-year-old songwriter then released her debut EP Imposter Syndrome at the end of 2019, marking a hugely significant flag in the sand for one of the UK’s most prolific songwriters as she finally steps out into the spotlight. Her 2020 single “Alone In My Room (Gone)” was released in February and in total, she has now registered 6.3 million combined streams across all platforms.

A gripping exploration into the role played by technology in modern relationships, the official video for “Don’t Need Love” looks destined to help the track continue its hot streak.

BENEE – LOWNELY

New Zealand’s indie pop sensation BENEE unveils “Lownely,” a brand new rendition of her breakthrough international smash “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton—listen HERE!

BENEE strips down “Supalonely” to raw elements of ethereal guitar, delicate production and lush strings. Her vocals and lyrics echo with emotion over the dreamy and soulful soundscape. Recorded with producer Josh Fountain at Golden Age Studio the night that New Zealand went into COVID-19 lockdown, “Lownely” was made in the last few hours before the midnight curfew.

Of the song, BENEE says, “I decided that I wanted to show a different side to the song seeing as when I wrote it, I was actually at a pretty low point. I wanted to fully commit to making a really sad song (.: My guitar player Tiare came up with the guitar parts, which I loved! I wanted to create a slow, sad indie vibe, and she did a really awesome job of this! We ended up getting it mixed by Dilip Harris in the UK, who does a lot of work for King Krule (who I love). I thought he would really complement the style of the song.”

“Supalonely” eclipsed 400 million total streams and counting, as well 1.8 million-plus in global consumption. BENEE also recently emerged as “The 94th Most Listened to Artist in the World” on Spotify, and “Supalonely” peaked in the Top 10 of the platform’s Global Top 50 Chart.

Within a short time, BENEE has gone from canvasing Soundcloud with covers out of her teenage bedroom to rising on the charts with “Supalonely” feat. Gus Dapperton and amassing over 650 million streams of her catalog around the globe. Last month, “Supalonely” vaulted to #10 on the Spotify Global Top 50 Chart, #18 on the US Top 50 Chart and #58 on the Billboard Hot 100. Over the airwaves and online, the song has entered the Top 20 on the US Top 40 Radio Chart at #18 and has been used in 11 million plus TikTok videos, while earning 150 million-plus video views and counting. Other chart moves include #2 on the Pop Streaming Chart, #6 on Nielsen’s On-Demand Streaming Chart and #43 on the Top 200 Song Consumption Chart. In addition, the song has been certified Platinum in Australia and Gold in New Zealand, Canada and Norway, reached #1 on the New Zealand Top 50 and #6 on the Australian Top 50 Spotify Chart, Top 15 on the UK Airplay Chart and UK Singles Chart.

Critics have been raving about “Supalonely” with Pitchfork calling it “sun-dappled and funky,” Los Angeles Times hailing it “deeply infectious” and People Magazine praising it with “kids are loving ‘Supalonely’ but the legends are too” – referring to BENEE’s recent appearance on Elton John’s Rocket Hour Radio Show on Apple Music where he called the track a “global smash.”

This unprecedented run follows a massive 2019, which she capped off by taking home trophies for “Single Of The Year” [“Soaked”], “Best Solo Artist,” “Best Pop Artist” and “Breakthrough Artist Of The Year” at the New Zealand Music Awards in November. Adding to these accolades, “Soaked” and “Glitter” have also been certified Double Platinum in New Zealand and Australia and “Evil Spider” and “Find an Island” have been certified Gold in New Zealand and Australia. Her two EP’s, STELLA & STEVE and FIRE ON MARZZ, have also been certified Gold in New Zealand.

ABOUT BENEE
From her hometown in Auckland, New Zealand, breakthrough popstar Stella Bennett, aka BENEE, remains unphased, unchanged and almost impervious to the cataclysmic success coming her way since releasing her debut EP, FIRE ON MARZZ, last summer. Already her tale is one of eye-watering statistics and achievements: close to ten million TikTok videos made to her latest single “Supalonely” featuring Gus Dapperton, hundreds of millions of streaming numbers, the most added song on U.S. Top 40 radio and a collection of platinum records in her home country. Her story is international and expanding on the hour, across modern and traditional platforms. Her audience seems endless. BENEE, however, remains easygoing, centered and—most importantly—herself. It’s not yet six months since the release of her second EP of 2019, STELLA & STEVE, garnered knockout reviews. Breakthrough track “Supalonely” is a slice of upbeat and original pop—like its creator, a little exotic and cheerfully weird. The song hits like a ray of sunshine, jammed to the hilt with personality and punctuated by BENEE’s verbal tics. BENEE’s music runs the gamut of everything pop can be in 2020 and is filled with her quirks in the experimental indie sounds and the cartoon-ish sprawl of her lyrical imagery. Her fans have a naturally intimate connection with her deceptively easy-going pop and that thing she still loves to call her “BENEE-VISION.”
