Guggenheim Museum World Masters: Matisse, Picasso, Chagall Bring Visitors to Bilbao, Spain

Over 19 Years Providing Expert Cruise and Travel Planning, Family Owned and Operated Cruises-N-More—Land, River and Ocean Experts at Cruise and Travel Planning

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. According to the cruise specialists at Cruises-N-More, today, most major cruise lines offer cruises to Bilbao. Because many cruise ships cannot navigate the Nervion River into the city center, they dock at the modern cruise terminal about nine miles north of Bilbao and shore excursions depart from there.

Chartered in 1300 along the Bay of Biscay, Bilbao grew slowly but steadily with a strong economic base built on shipbuilding, steel and chemical industries. At the beginning of the 20th century, Bilbao was said to be the wealthiest city in Spain. Then the steel and shipbuilding industry floundered and industrial decline set in, Bilbao was hit with a deep economic crisis. The once-bustling waterfront became derelict in what could have been known as a death blow, but Bilbao turned the tide with the Guggenheim, which became in important cultural facility.

Opened in October 1997, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was designed by Frank Geary and cost an amazing 130 million Euros paid for by the Basque government. Geary liked that it was next to the river, and sometimes it is said the river is the reason Bilbao exists.

The result is an eye-popping shimmer of titanium, glass and limestone that looks like a magnificent winged ship sailing down the old port. The museum exterior is dazzling as is the artwork surrounding it. The entrance is guarded by an iconic Puppy floral sculpture, created by Jeff Koons. The 43-foot-tall living plant creation was modeled after a West Highland terrier and changes according to the time of year and the blooming plants, including colorful marigolds, begonias, impatiens, petunias, and lobelias.

Guggenheim is home to art by world masters. Inside the Guggenheim are soaring outer galleries plus a suite of 10 galleries in the building’s core that house a permanent collection of works by world masters like Matisse, Picasso, Chagall, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, Paul Klee and Roy Lichtenstein. The structure was created to make maximum use of natural light.

Bilbao and the Guggenheim are a great destination to visit.

Brighten Life with Color

by Ariela Wertheimer

Ways to incorporate color into your surroundings to help brighten your mood during the cold winter months

With cold weather well underway for most of the North East, the winter blues can be daunting. As days get shorter and darker, some people may find themselves feeling more tired and lethargic than usual.
As an international artist, I’ve been exposed to different climates and cultures, and I understand how easily a mood can change for the better and energy levels can pick up when bright colors are incorporated into your environment.

When I moved to Tel Aviv in 2013, the new atmosphere encouraged me to look for inspiration around me. The city’s urban rhythm invigorated me with energy to create, photograph, and paint, and elements like fences, construction metals, colors and neon lights served as a type of urban art – a pop art that felt young and fresh.
If you’re not in the city, there are other ways to liven up your environment. Whether it be working vibrant hues into key pieces of your home furnishings, or using a brightly colored paint to create an accent wall in your foyer, colors can help break up the monotony of the long winter months and uplift your mood.

Here are a few more ways to brighten your space:

Pick a Bright Piece of Art to Tie Together a Room: Similar to my Light Box Portraits, colorful art pieces are key to brightening a space. Many artists use bright colors in their work, so find a piece that speaks to you and your tastes.
Use Mirrors to Double the Sunlight in a Room: There is no better friend to a small space than a well-placed mirror. For expanding walls, breaking up visual clutter, or amplifying light, let mirrors be the tool that solves your deign dilemmas.
Shiny Paint or Matte Paint? When choosing your favorite kind of paint, remember to check for the level of shine. The higher the shine, the more durable the paint will be. Oddly enough, glossy walls can create a glare while matte surfaces have the ability to reflect light in every direction.
Pick Bright Paint Colors for Your Walls: Whether you’re wondering what color to paint the office or you’re looking to redesign your living space, the colors you choose are important. Studies have shown that colors have a direct impact on human emotion and behavior. Wall color can actually change how a person perceives temperature.

Specific colors you choose to incorporate into your space can evoke emotional responses. When trying to create a calm environment, blue has always been a favorite color of mine. This is a common solution, as blue is generally used as a soothing and relaxing hue because it’s often affiliated with a clear sky or the sea. Don’t be afraid to use blue in the more stressful areas of your life—like your office.
If you’re looking to develop a more creative atmosphere in your space, then green is your color. Research has linked green with broader thinking and happier thoughts. Allow a positive association with nature to affect your décor and the overall mood in your home. Green is especially great for brightening rooms with mostly neutral tones.
Yellow has always been used to represent the sun and brightness. No need to paint every wall yellow, but use your love for the color to pick out a vase or rug for the center of the room. These accents will enhance a livelier vibe to brighten your days.

Give yourself an energy boost with your décor and your surroundings overall. Like your environment, one of the best things about color is that it is ever-changing. If something doesn’t work for your style, change it. Trial and error is used by artists on an everyday basis. Through my experience, I’ve learned what colors I am drawn to and what accents I find to be appealing. Everyone is different. Let light into your life during the darkest days.

Ariela Wertheimer is an international artist based in Tel Avivi, Israel. She is a member of Israel’s most affluent family, as her family sold their company to Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway in 2013 for over $2 billion. Ariela decided to venture away from business and into the art world, as she recently exhibited a Scope Miami, Venice Biennale and is scheduled to exhibit at Artexpo New York later in the spring. Ariela’s art incorporates a range of bright colors and focus on self-reflection – encouraging the viewer to reflect and improve their outlook.

Bloom: Open Space

Open to the public now, Bloom: Open Space is a new mixed reality generative music experience created by musician, producer, visual artist, and thinker Brian Eno and longtime collaborator, musician/software designer Peter Chilvers. For just five days, guests to The Transformatorhuis (Trafo House) at Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam can explore this unique MR installation that blurs the lines between the physical and virtual.

Based upon their highly acclaimed, award-winning app of the same name, the installation explores uncharted territory in the realms of both applications and generative art. Guests can use the Microsoft HoloLens to physically experience Bloom – tapping the air around them to create elaborate patterns and unique melodies with the simplest of gestures.

Says Eno, “I have always been interested by the possibilities that new technologies offer, particularly that subset which falls under the heading ‘things nobody ever thought of doing before.’ This offer was an opportunity to explore the possibilities of Bloom further and augmented reality further.”

Bloom: Open Space seeks to inspire creativity in line with Brian Eno’s innovations, while the HoloLens allows the audience to directly participate and become part of the total experience. Eno has consistently pushed the boundaries of music, sound, and visual art, continually challenging both himself and those who experience his work. Eno and
Chilvers have been experimenting with generative systems for about 15 years, and as well as Bloom, have also released a number of other apps including Scape, Trope, and most recently, Reflection.

A part of the Microsoft Music x Technology program, this collaboration transforms the way we experience and create music. The installation is open to the public in Amsterdam through February 25th, 2018. For those unable to travel to Amsterdam, you can get an inside look at Bloom: Open Space here: bloomopenspace.com

Surface Presents The Diner by David Rockwell in Collaboration with 2×4

Opening at Salone del Mobile 2018, The Diner will celebrate American design now through design, food, and activations

April 17–22, 2018, Via Ferrante Aporti 15, Milan

In honor of its 25th anniversary, leading American design magazine Surface will unveil The Diner, in collaboration with architect David Rockwell, during the Salone del Mobile in Milan this April. The Diner will be a celebration of American design, presented as an unforgettable contemporary interpretation of the archetypal roadside restaurant.

The installation will immerse visitors in four distinct environments. Drawing on an expertise in hospitality and set design, Rockwell and the LAB at Rockwell Group are using the rituals of the diner as reference and departure points, linking the past and the future of an essential American icon. The entrance, inspired by the Airstream, will feature fresh coffee and homestyle pie. The journey will continue with an East Coast-style luncheonette, where visitors can enjoy milkshakes and other classic diner fare. A branded version of grilled cheese sandwiches will be served in the third segment of the space, a room that pays tribute to diners of the Midwest. The experience will conclude with a laid-back West Coast lounge concept.

“We are thrilled to be working with Surface on The Diner,” says Rockwell, founder and president of Rockwell Group. “Diners are uniquely American and enduring in our cultural iconography. Our goal is to capture the restaurant’s inherently optimistic and democratic spirit that draws people of all backgrounds to create a welcoming, lively, engaging, and fun environment.” To round out The Diner, Surface is tapping additional emerging and established U.S.-based designers and firms, including the renowned design studio 2×4, which is creating the project’s visual identity, from custom fonts and signage to menus. “Outside of the U.S.,” says Susan Sellers, creative director and partner at 2×4, “many would say one of

America’s distinctive qualities is optimism—an endless appetite for openness, possibility, and potential. I would say that American identity is currently challenged. We wanted to capture that paradox in The Diner’s identity.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with David Rockwell and 2×4,” says Surface editor-in-chief Spencer Bailey. “Bringing this powerhouse team to the international stage during the world’s largest design and furniture fair is the perfect way to celebrate Surface’s 25th anniversary.”

The concept, strategy, and execution of The Diner is being done in partnership with strategic consultancy firms Jacob Peres Office and Allenby Concept House. A collaboration with Ventura Projects, the installation will be part of the Ventura Centrale exhibition at warehouses underneath Milan’s Central Station. Open for seven consecutive days, The Diner will be a place to eat, relax, meet old friends and make new ones, and recharge. During the week, it will host a daytime talk series and in the evenings it will transform into a nightclub with late-night performances and parties.

HERON PRESTON x Off-White

VIRGIL ABLOH AND HERON PRESTON REVEAL “COLLABORATION” HANDBAG

For their first collaborative release, Virgil Abloh (Off-White ℅ Virgil Abloh) and Heron Preston present “COLLABORATION”, a concept carryall that incorporates the designers’ common exploration of industrial elements. This accessory is a living hybrid: its dual-colored strap is a fusion of Off-Whites graphic yellow Weight Securing System strap and Preston’s signature orange band with the branded word “Style” in Russian. The strap is a purposeful note of asymmetry in a piece with clean balance. The transparent body is printed with Off-White’s famed diagonal white lines, along with the words “COLLABORATION”. Black carabiner clips secure the strap, while inside, an industrial netting-inspired inner tote is a textural contrast to the sleek exterior. Substantial industrial hardware finishes the design, with metal nuts that cleanly secure orange leather straps.

“Heron Preston’s ability to think without limits comes to life in this bag we created together,” Abloh says. “The mix of the materials combined with Off-White DNA lead to a final product that suggests a different idea of a “handbag”.”

PRICING
“COLLABORATION” – Mini – $942.00
“COLLABORATION” – Medium – $1,232.00

ABOUT HERON PRESTON

Heron Preston is the true embodiment of an artist born of the post-internet generation. Multi-faceted and genre-bending, he is a cultural icon in youth culture, and emerging designer in high fashion. He founded his eponymous fashion brand in 2016, and in two short seasons has garnered an international following. The common thread among his impressive bodies of work is a commitment to innovation, experimentation, and unpredictability. Heron Preston finds particular joy in the unexpected; taking conventional themes and reinterpreting them. Take for example his “UNIFORM” project from 2015, the designer’s first major collection, in which he collaborated with the NYC Department of Sanitation on a series of zero waste themed clothes and accessories. He’s also served as the global digital producer for Nike and of course, creative consultant to Kanye West, most notably on his work for the Life of Pablo and Yeezy fashion label.

Fashion trends in 2018

Fashion and Social media influencer Urszula Makowska is a fashionable New Yorker with over 116k followers on Instagram. She was invited to almost every event of the New York Fashion Week. Urszula is influencing others with her fashion style and at this occasion, she had an interview that revealed what the fashion trends are of 2018, as seen at the NYFW.

As a fashion blogger, what were you looking forward to seeing in New York Fashion week?

The most exciting time of the year for bloggers is always fashion week. This time of the year is the busiest for us. We plan our outfits and the events we will attend in advance. We work hard to coordinate everything to perfection including travel and hotel stays.

Personally, I love fashion week. For me, it is extremely exciting. I am a fashion addict and I love to attend shows and presentations to view the upcoming trends for the next seasons. I love to see what designers have created for the upcoming seasons. It is all a work of art and a way to express yourself. Then I love to share the upcoming trends with my followers and readers. During this F/W 2018 New York Fashion Week, I was super excited to attend my shows since I officially received over 40 invitations, and this included some of the big designers from Badgley Mischka to BCBG Maxazria. I was extremely proud of myself to have the ability to attend my shows and presentations. It has shown me how far I came into my career as a blogger. I was also looking forward to not only attending the shows and events, but also seeing friends who were flying into New York City, networking, meeting other bloggers, and working together with photographers to take photos of my looks.

Why is it important for a fashion blogger to attend Fashion Week?

Fashion week is extremely important for any fashion blogger and fashion influencer. Now-in-days, we bloggers and influencers hold the power to influencing and generating sales. We dominate the market and this directly means that we always have to be on top of the upcoming trends. Followers and readers look up to us as having the knowledge of our niche and market. They know us as the experts for getting style inspiration or simply buying what we are wearing or using. Fashion week allows us to keep up with the upcoming trends. We are able to see what products will be hot for the next season and how they can be styled. We are able to see the new trends before anyone else and we are able to introduce these new innovations to our followers and readers.

Aside from that, attending fashion week is also important to us in terms of networking. By attending these events, we are meeting people constantly. These people may be bloggers, editors, or photographers. We have the ability to form a relationship and partner together in the future. I know I personally have met a lot of people this season and I created strong friendships with them. We are always working together and supporting one another. At the end of the day, this only benefits you.

What was your best event so far from NYFW and why?

The best event from NYFW for me was going backstage with Aveda for Tibi. I personally love Tibi and have always wanted to attend one of their shows. Tibi’s fashion shows are extremely popular. A lot of bloggers always want to attend Tibi’s show. Luckily, I was able to go backstage with Aveda since I have a strong relationship with Aveda as one of their influencers. I was able to see the full on hair trends, hair tips, hair inspirations, makeup trends, makeup inspirations, and looks beforehand. I was extremely happy to see everything beforehand, but to learn a lot myself. I was happy to network and see my Aveda family.

Which look was your favorite look that you wore to NYFW?

One of my favorite looks for the shows was the classic Chanel themed look I went for from the S/S 2018 show. I bought a cute classic Zara dress and jacket that looked similar to the Chanel vibes from their S/S 2018 show. I layered a lilac turtleneck under the dress and paired it off with Kanye West Tubular shoes.

Which fashion trends are going to be popular this year according to NYFW?

There are a lot of upcoming trends that I saw during the F/W 2018/2019 shows that I am looking forward to.

Currently plaid is in, but don’t worry, it is not leaving anywhere anytime soon. For the upcoming seasons, we will see plaid like never before. It will be bolder than ever. We will be making statements in plaid. Plaid in saturated hues such as hot pink will be hotter than ever. During NYFW plenty of designers showcased plaid suits in hot pink and they were incredible.

Regarding outerwear, puffers, fur, and trench coats will be in trend. They will be more dramatic than ever. They will catch anyone’s eyes. We saw puffers on the runway in bright hues and extremely oversized. That is how we will see them in the fall and winter. Fur jackets were seen in bright colors from yellow to red. Trench coats were seen in leopard prints everywhere during NYFW.

One new trend that was introduced the new crop top silhouette. This top is a part bathing suit, part sports bra, and part strapless bra with underwire. It was seen a lot on the runway and will be extremely popular.

In terms of color trends, red and hot pink will be the hottest colors of the season. We saw bright pink everywhere on the runway from tops to shoes. We also saw red dominate from head to toe. The most exciting part is that the combination of pink and red will be extremely popular. Most designers used a combination of both of their pieces.

What is your personal favorite trend from NYFW?

One of my personal favorite trends will be tea length floral dresses. During the shows, these dresses were paired with cute booties. I am a big fan of booties and floral prints. I find this trend to be extremely chic, but casual. It is perfect for any person to easily put together for any occasion.

FABICH

Fabich x A-Minor – Naked Lines (Ft. Aaron Pfeiffer)

Released 12th January

LONDON FOSTERS FEARLESS NEW SINGLE FROM RECORD PRODUCER FABICH

“[Fabich’s] appeal is much more wide reaching than you might think, with ‘80s, ‘90s and contemporary influences.EARMILK

“Fabich has been on a roll this year.” CAVEMAN SOUND

Fabich has had a reel of successes in his career. Having previously made music at Bob Marley’s house, and achieving US chart success as a producer for platinum-selling R&B and soul singer-songwriter Lyfe Jennings and Missy Elliott collaborator, Trina. Now, alongside London producer A-Minor and vocalist Aaron Pfeiffer, we hear the opening chapter of an unfolding story… the first single Naked Lines.

After Fabich’s move to London he felt the overwhelming creative force of the city. Totally inspired, recent single Hold On was born. Accompanied by a VMA nominated video that held surprising humorous twists, delicately reflecting Fabich’s multi-faceted personality. As characterful as ever, this humble record producer finds inspiration in equal measure within art, design and music.

A-Minor is the perfect partner in crime for this release, bringing his trademark drum patterns and seriously soulful melodies. Also recognised for remixes on Raleigh Ritchie, Yousef and Bipolar Sunshine’s work, his own Ministry of Sound release Be Mine shows serious flare by hitting 800,000 plays on youtube alone. After making the epic move from the USA to Berlin, vocalist Aaron began to discover himself sexually and mentally. Unusually and uncharacteristically open, a new place, new scenery and a new atmosphere allows Aaron and this song the space it truly needs.

Fabich’s passion for all things creative doesn’t shy away from an unspoken and uncontrollable thirst in this emotionally charged new release. We look forward to Fabich’s subtle and refreshing tunes to settle us into the utterly altruistic journey that Naked Lines has invited us on.

Glashütte Original × Senator Chronograph

Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition: Urban. Striking. Precise. Glashütte Original presents special limited edition in Berlin

Berlin, just a few hours before one of the biggest film festivals in the world begins: the perfect setting for the Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition. This special edition, to be launched by Glashütte Original during the 68th Berlinale, reflects the urban gentleman’s attitude to life. The stylish and distinctive Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is presented in a stainless steel edition of 100, and a red gold version limited to 25 pieces. With their smoky grey dials in a “Bourbon Grey” hue, both models bring the inimitable flair of the big city to the wrist. A platinum version of the watch, strictly limited to only 5 pieces worldwide, presents yet another style with a striking dial in “Dry Silver”.

Dynamic capital, inspirational metropolis and international stage: Berlin offers the perfect backdrop for the premiere of a special new limited edition, which Glashütte Original is set to launch during the 68th Berlin International Film Festival. The Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition reflects the urban attitude to life in this big, vibrant city, and combines reliable precision with a robust readiness for everyday life.

The Capital Edition fits perfectly into the energy-charged atmosphere of Berlin and the Berlinale – since it does indeed give the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date a striking new look.

The dials, fashioned in-house, appeal through their especially developed hues “Bourbon Grey” for the models in stainless steel and red gold, and “Dry Silver” for the strictly limited platinum version. All variants capture everyone’s eye with beige, white and blue details. In the dark, Super-LumiNova highlighting lends an impressive green glow to the white gold hour, minute and stop seconds hands, the Roman numerals at hours 6 and 12, and the hour indexes, assuring optimal legibility throughout those long, long nights in the capital city.

Made for the urban gentleman

The everyday reliability of its functions and its exceptional design make the Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition the perfect companion for contemporary trendsetters.

As always, the Saxon manufactory has paid particular attention to sophisticated details: the deep blue totalizers around the chronograph displays appear in stylish contrast to the dial’s elegant grey. Shimmering silver rings circumscribe the totalizers, setting additional visual accents. A polished and satin-brushed, 42 mm stainless steel or red gold case frames the “Bourbon Grey” dial, while the platinum case is a perfect match for the dial in “Dry Silver”.

White gold hands sweep stylishly over the dials on all three versions of the watch. The characteristic Glashütte Original Panorama Date is given clear pride of place at 6 o’clock, while the power reserve display is set discreetly within the small seconds. The contrasting white stitching of the calfskin strap in brown or blue is a further, original element of style. The metal bracelet’s patented 8-step fine adjustment mechanism guarantees optimal comfort for the gentleman wearing the stainless steel version of the watch. The red gold and platinum versions of the Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition come in a special collector’s box, in which an additional strap will be included.

Calibre 37: Robust, reliable and precise

Inside The Senator Chronograph – The Capital Edition one finds, as in all Senator Chronograph Panorama Date models, the manufactory Calibre 37 movement. The innovative flyback chronograph with 4 Hertz automatic movement and column wheel mechanism was developed to assure the highest standards in terms of stability, aesthetics, precision and ease of maintenance. And a look through the integrated chronograph’s sapphire crystal case back reveals all the classic features of a Glashütte watch, including the characteristic three-quarter plate, the screw balance with four adjustment screws, the swan-neck fine adjustment and the skeletonized rotor with its 21-carat gold oscillating mass.

BIRDMAN ‘BEFORE ANYTHANG’ ON APPLE MUSIC

Vaughn Lowery: “What advice would you provide to someone trying to start a label or to become a recording artist?”

Birdman: “Study your craft …. Know your business …. Stay focused, stay humble, always put God first …. Try to start the same way you finished …. Be prepared to die for what you believe in. It’s simple.”

Bryan “Baby/Birdman” Williams was in Los Angeles pushing his new biographical documentary during his birthday. Today, it was released exclusively on Apple Music.

The viewing was held on Thursday, February 15th at NeueHouse – a private community of leading entrepreneurs and creative teams. As we sipped on champagne and awaited the ‘Number 1 Stunna’ to introduce the opening instalment of a three-part series during his birthday, we were constantly reminded by the mere presence of security that we could be in for a ride. Over the last 21 years, Birdman has lead an army of hip hop prodigies, including Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. For decades, financial rumors and controversy surrounded Cash Money Records and we were hoping to find some answers. The initial episode delves into the CEO’s dark past from losing his mother at an early age to slanging drugs which in the end leads to incarceration. Throughout, we start to understand the attributes of how one becomes one of the most successful rap moguls of our time. His father was a former military man with a pile of small businesses in some of New Orleans’ seedier areas. He constantly hustled to keep his family fed with a roof over their heads. This boy “any means necessary” mentality trickled down onto his youngest child, which eventually contributed to him selling CDs out of his trunk and helming one of the most prolific indie labels in the world, Cash Money Records.

Before Anythang: The Story Behind The Cash Money Records Empire doesn’t disappoint; however, it may leave some leery as it was created by its star, sprinkled with his personal narratives, which could come across as being slightly contrived.

Nevertheless, this piece of work has earned a spot on our ‘360 Watch List,’ especially since we gain an insightful introspective into the life of Birdman.
