Listen to Harry Connick, Jr. chat with WNYC’s All Of It with Allison Stewart
Today, Grammy® and Emmy® winning musician and actor Harry Connick, Jr. celebrates his #1 debut on both Billboard’s Jazz and Traditional Jazz Chart as well as UK’s Jazz Chart with his sensational new album, ‘True Love: A Celebration of Cole Porter’. This marks Harry’s 14th No. 1 Billboard Jazz Album.
On October 24, Harry also received his Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, which is coincidentally the neighboring star to Cole Porter’s.
Released on October 25 on Verve Records, his new label home, the new album is comprised exclusively of Cole Porter compositions. ‘True Love’ highlights Harry’s talents as pianist, singer, arranger, orchestrator and conductor, as he breathes new life into popular songs from The Great American Songbook including ‘Anything Goes’ and ‘You Do Something To Me’.
On hearing the news of his No.1 record, Harry says, “I am humbled and grateful to reach this milestone. Thanks to my fans around the world for your continued support.”
Harry Connick, Jr. will also take the Cole Porter songbook to Broadway with HARRY CONNICK, JR. – A Celebration of Cole Porter. The multi-media Broadway show opens at the Nederlander Theater in New York City on December 7 and runs through December 29.Tickets can be purchased here.
About True Love: A Celebration of Cole Porter:
Cole Porter’s body of work, composed primarily for Broadway and Hollywood, makes up one of the central chapters in the Great American Songbook. It is not surprising that Porter would appeal to Harry since, like Harry, he wrote both music and lyrics and redefined what it meant to be the complete songwriter. Harry, whose success in several styles of music as well as film, theatre and television has similarly reshaped the notion of what it means to be the complete entertainer.
Harry’s effort in pulling together the album ‘True Love’ was typically Herculean. After selecting the songs, and writing and orchestrating the arrangements, he assembled and conducted the orchestra which features his longtime touring band with additional horns and a full string section. The results showcase new depths in every area of Harry’s creativity, which soars to new heights in the new show that he has conceived and will direct on Broadway this Fall.
Celebrated worldwide for his multi-faceted talents as singer, pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader, presenter and actor, Harry Connick, Jr. has been performing since he was 9 years old. He emerged on the scene with a precocious command of jazz and popular music styles, having been trained by legendary pianists Ellis Marsalis and James Booker in his native New Orleans.

Teyana Taylor – multi-hyphenate R&B superstar singer, songwriter, producer, director, dancer/choreographer, actor, fitness guru, model, mother and Harlem native – announces the release of “Morning” featuring Kehlani, the brand new single and steamy video, both available today via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam Recordings. “Morning” is the second advance track from THE ALBUM, following up the R&B smash “How You Want It? (HYWI?)” featuring King Combs.
THE ALBUM is the long-awaited follow-up to Teyana’s KTSE, one of the five G.O.O.D. Music/ Def Jam albums produced by Kanye West during his 2018 sojourn in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Released in June, KTSE (acronym for Keep That Same Energy) set off an 18-month chain reaction for Teyana, starting with its summertime RIAA- certified Gold smash “Gonna Love Me.” Teyana performed “Gonna Love Me” (in a medley with “Rose In Harlem,” also from KTSE) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hip-hop audiences embraced the “Gonna Love Me” remix featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Raekwon, whose video was directed by Teyana herself.
KTSE spun off a hot new single and video for Teyana in early 2019, the explicit “WTP (Work This P***y).” The video was nominated last week for “Best Dance Performance” at the upcoming BET Soul Train Awards, airing live from Las Vegas on November 17. The third single from KTSE was the evocative “Issues/Hold On.” After slaying the audience with the song live on Ellen in April 2019, Teyana was surprised on-air when Ellen presented her with the RIAA gold award plaque for “Gonna Love Me,” bringing it all full circle.
As she continues to direct her own videos, Teyana – aka ‘Spike Tee’ – was again at the helm of the clip for her recent single, “How You Want It? (HYWI?)” featuring King Combs, released in August.
About TEYANA TAYLOR:
Being a jack of trades has allowed Teyana Taylor to become a master of all. From her smoky melodic vocals to her dynamic dance moves, the entertainer dips in dives between her talents that also include producing, songwriting, acting, directing and everything in between. When it comes to describing herself, the Harlem native can only think of one word: Everything.
“I literally can do everything. I never look at anything as being impossible,” she explains. “I exhaust all options to make what happen when I need to make happen.” Her mantra made her an early favorite to artists like Pharrell, who she signed her first deal with, and later choreographed videos for artists like Beyonce and Jay-Z. Her love for the arts and R&B later earned her the title of the first woman signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint.
Between R&B’s identity crisis in the 2010s, Teyana dropped her debut album VII, with tracks like “Maybe” (featuring Yo Gotti and Pusha T) and the sultry “Just Different” shaping her musical persona. The critically acclaimed album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 2014, cementing her position in today modern R&B field. “I fought for that raw, hood necessary R&B and now I feel like it’s better than ever,” she says.
After spicing up the R&B charts, Teyana was blessed with the arrival of her daughter Junie with husband and NBA star Iman Shumpert in 2015. “I do all of this for my baby. She’s who I do it for,” she says about Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., her main source of inspiration. “I always show her how to be a leader and a businesswoman. I want her to believe that she can be anything she wants to be and it not be a shocker that she’s a female doing it all.” Soon after, Teyana went on to star in the internet-breaking video for Kanye West’s “Fade,” and scored her first MTV Moonman for “Best Choreography” at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.
But it wasn’t until the release of her sophomore project K.T.S.E. in June 2018 that the world experienced Teyana’s talents. With her all-female production company The Aunties, Teyana self-directed videos for “WTP,” the Gold-selling single “Gonna Love Me,” and recently, “Issues/Hold On.” She has also directed videos for her peers like T.I. (“You”), Monica (“Commitment”) and Lil Duval (“Pull Up” featuring Ty Dolla $ign) with fans like Ms. Lauryn Hill and Elton John praising her boss moves.
Part of what makes Teyana stand out from the rest is her ability to move with precision and poise in everything she does. From the studio to the stage, every idea is a project with the singer front and center with a vision all her own. With her musical inspirations like Aaliyah, Teena Marie, Mint Condition and Janet Jackson speaking to her soul, Teyana is aware her mission is larger than life. “I’m working on me every day and I think that’s my purpose,” she says, comparing her life to a never-ending book. “I’m still going, still mastering and being a better me.”
MGK × Halloween
Machine Gun Kelly (EST 19XX/Interscope Records) presents the haunting video for his emotional song, “Glass House.” The riveting track showcases a spiraling MGK, who pays homage to everything from his life trials to late industry peers; including, Mac Miller, Nipsey Hussle and Chester Bennington. Director Jordan Wozy follows the dark lyrics with haunting visuals of MGK and Naomi trapped in a burning car; leaving the viewer to contemplate whether the incident is an accident or wildly premeditated. “Glass House” appears on MGK’s latest studio album, Hotel Diablo, alongside tracks “Candy” featuring Trippie Redd, “el diablo” and “I Think I’m OKAY” featuring Yungblud and Blink 182’s Travis Barker. Watch the video for “Glass House” HERE.

TYGA’s MAMACITA OF THE DEAD
TYGA LAUNCHES FIRST-EVER HALLOWEEN EVENT “MAMACITA OF THE DEAD” AT YAMASHIRO OCTOBER 29-30
‘Mamacita packs quite a slug at the iconic Yamashiro in Hollywood. With an immersive haunted maze, surprise celebrity sightings, handcrafted cocktails as well as live musical interludes throughout the evening which will leave you spooked for days.’ – 360 MAGAZINE
Celebrating his favorite season in style, Tyga’s “Mamacita of the Dead” takes over the Hollywood Hills on October 29 and 30 at the iconic Yamashiro restaurant overlooking Hollywood Blvd. This marks the first-ever Halloween event hosted and produced by the GRAMMY® Award-nominated multiplatinum modern hip-hop icon and also celebrates the imminent arrival of music with his new Columbia Records partnership. VIP admission tickets are available now with general admission on sale later this week via www.Mamacitaofthedead.com.
As legend has it, “Mamacita” ran Hollywood’s most notorious brothel as Queen Madame. For the first time in a century, Tyga invites those brave enough to explore the hidden catacombs of her haunted bordello in order to validate once and for all if the Madame was a Santeria witch who beheaded women whose beauty dwarfed hers, or if she was a vampire who transformed the Bordello into a feeding ground for beautiful blood-sucking sirens, or if she gave birth to the ghost rider’s baby whose cries still ring out in the hills…The only way to know is to visit “Mamacita of the Dead.”
About the launch, Tyga commented, “This is something I always wanted to do. I love Halloween and wanted the opportunity to present my vision for it. Dare to Enter. You may never want to leave Mamacita’s embrace.”
“Mamacita of the Dead” invites attendees to explore a Haunted Hell House in the basement of Yamashiro, while upstairs offers a post-maze experience (if they make it out alive).
ABOUT TYGA:
As a rapper, entrepreneur, and influential force, Tyga maintains his place at the forefront of hip-hop and the culture. Since emerging in 2008, his influence consistently grew year after year to affect nearly every facet of the mainstream. Throughout his career, he earned dozens of multiplatinum certifications around the world, including the quadruple-platinum “Rack City,” triple-platinum “Faded,”and double-platinum “Ayo” with Chris Brown, to name a few. In 2018, he turned up with his most successful single to date “Taste” [feat. Offset]. Not only did it go six-times platinum and clinch #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it generated over 1 billion cumulative streams. It also paved the way for his 2019 opus, Legendary, released via his own Last Kings Records / Empire Distribution. Legendary crashed the Top 20 on the Top 200 chart, scored a gold certification release week, and accumulated 5 billion streams in under a year. Tyga perennially holds a place in the Top 30 of the “Most Streamed Artists on Spotify.” His influence continues to grow with each subsequent album.
Selena Gomez New Song
Selena Gomez releases a highly anticipated new song about self-love. “Lose You To Love Me” is available today at all digital retailers via Interscope Records. Selena co-wrote the song with long-time collaborators Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter as well as Mattias Larsson and Robin Fredriksson with additional production from FINNEAS. Gomez says, “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album. I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.” Listen to “Lose You To Love Me” HERE.
The beautiful music video directed by the acclaimed Sophie Muller (“Good for You”) was shot entirely on the new iPhone 11 Pro. Watch the video HERE.
Earlier this year, Gomez was featured on “I Can’t Get Enough” with Benny Blanco, J Balvin and Tainy. In 2018, she collaborated with DJ Snake, Ozuna and Cardi B on the global hit “Taki Taki,” which became one of the fastest videos to reach over 100 million views. Her previous five singles “It Ain’t Me” with Kygo, “Bad Liar,” “Fetish,” “Wolves” x Marshmello and “Back to You” all have been certified RIAA platinum or multi-platinum. As a solo artist Gomez has accumulated over 20 billion global streams.
At the end of 2017 Gomez was named Billboard Magazine’s “Woman of the Year.” In 2015, Gomez released her critically acclaimed album Revival. The first three singles off the album “Good For You,” “Same Old Love” and “Hands to Myself” went to number one on the US Top 40 chart. Gomez is one of only six female artists to have at least three songs from one album reach the #1 position since the chart launched in 1992.
Gomez most recently executive produced the critically acclaimed Netflix docu-series “Living Undocumented” which created much buzz and discussion regarding the polarizing issue of undocumented people living in the United States. Earlier this year, she starred in Jim Jarmusch’s film THE DEAD DON’T DIE opposite Bill Murray and Adam Driver, which premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
