Bring Me The Horizon x YUNGBLUD

Bring Me The Horizon and YUNGBLUD have teamed up for a brand new song titled “Obey.”

The two British modern rock powerhouses released the song Wednesday, premiering it on Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record’ Radio 1 show.

The song, which is accompanied by a very fitting music video, is about our inability to see control and oppression in society.

Oli Sykes, the front man for Bring Me The Horizon, said, “We consider ourselves free, but only because the chains are invisible, and we are controlled in ways we don’t even want to think about. They tell us how to live with a smile on their face, like s*** ain’t f***** up, inform us of tragic statistics like it’s nothing… it’s a weird world.”

The chorus of the song uses Oli’s voice to convey the words of the powers that be.

“There’s nothing to see here, it’s under control. We’re only gambling with your soul,” Sykes sings.

YUNGBLUD added, “They teach us to turn against each other and to fight against our differences rather than embrace and celebrate them. They try to keep us divided because it makes us weaker. We will rise above the hate and the diversion. We will fight for the world we want to be a part of.  We will not obey.”

YUNGBLUD’s thoughts seem to perfectly convey the idea of the music video.

We see Sykes and YUNGBLUD in the control chair of giant robots, walking through the city. When they finally meet, their first instinct is to fight. They’re so similar, yet they believe there can be only one giant, man-controlled robot.

By the end of the video, they see through their reasons to fight, just as YUNGBLUD prophesied.

Bring Me The Horizon wrote the song with additional production from Mick Gordon. It is the third song from the first EP in a series they are calling “Posthuman.”

After directly addressing criticisms for songs that “ain’t heavy metal” on their 2019 album “amo,” they seem to be rocking as hard as ever.
