TODAY, Complex relaunched its print magazine with Billie Eilish gracing the cover.
Launched in 2002 as “The Ultimate Buyers Guide for Men,” Complex magazine became an instant cultural phenomenon, defining trends and shaping youth culture for over a decade. With its razor-sharp focus on streetwear, music, and pop culture, Complex magazine was the definitive destination for readers who craved the latest insights on fashion, music, and everything that mattered in the world of convergence culture, drastically shifting the landscape of youth culture.
After a hiatus since 2016, the beloved publication is making its long-awaited return, complete with its famed dual sided flip covers) this week at the Complex Miami x VERDY pop-up at the Faena Forum for Miami Art Week.
The first issue’s cover will feature Billie Eilish, photographed by Kenneth Capello, and include full recent digital cover features, including Lil Yachty x James Blake, Camila Cabello, and Eminem.
In the Billie Eilish cover feature, the global star discusses:
- Her experiences with existentialism – “There could have easily been a world without me, but since I’m in the world, I am going to try to help people and be impactful and help change things that have been in place for so long and are so outdated.”
- The struggles of making her latest album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT – “Oh my God, it was horrible. I learned a lot, though, and I had a good time with my brother. The fact that it was so difficult to make is good, honestly, because it shows that we can do it, even when we’re going through it.”
- Who she listens to while on tour – “We had a four-hour bus ride the other day and we listened to Tom Odell, Sufjan Stevens, Patrick Watson, and Mitski. That’s the vibe that I’ve been in recently. An emo vibe.”
- Her relationship with social media – “I go on the internet to see the videos that I want to see, but then I get sucked in. Then I get all fucked up, and I’m stuck. So I’ve been back on it, but I am trying to get off. It’s my cigarettes. It’s really a problem.”
To celebrate this monumental relaunch, Complex is debuting the magazine at the Miami Art Complex x Verdy event (Dec 5-7) before rolling out to Complex Shop and select newsstands nationwide starting December 9. The magazine will be published quarterly as a limited-edition collectible featuring the news, interviews, and recommendations Complex has been known for for over two decades.
