5 Ways to Create Unique Drum Patterns with Free Samples

Drum patterns can make or break a track. A catchy beat hooks listeners and keeps the energy alive. But creating something fresh can feel like running in circles. Well, there is nothing to worry about with Unison Audio by your side.

They provide an extensive collection of free sample packs that can help you come up with one-of-a-kind drum patterns without overthinking it. Whether you’re new to music production or a seasoned pro, using these free samples can bring exciting new ideas to your beats.

Creating Unique Drum Patterns: 5 Ways to Do So with Free Samples

When working with free samples, the key is experimenting. These packs are loaded with possibilities, so it’s all about trying different techniques to create something that sounds unique. Below, we’ll go over five simple methods to help you spice up your drum patterns.

  1. Mix and Match Drum Hits

One of the easiest ways to create a fresh sound is to combine different drum hits from various packs. Don’t limit yourself to just one set of sounds. You can pick a kick with a deep punch and a snare that has a bright snap. This contrast can give your beat a lively feel.

Also, layer sounds by stacking a soft clap on top of a snare or mix a low kick with a higher-pitched one for more impact. Furthermore, use different packs by pulling drum hits from different sample packs to keep your sound from becoming too predictable.

When you mix and match, you create an original palette of sounds. This variety in your hits prevents your beat from feeling repetitive. With free sample packs from Unison Audio, you get access to a huge range of kicks, snares, claps, and more.

  1. Chop Up Loops and Rearrange

Pre-made drum loops are convenient, but using them as-is can be limiting. Instead of just dropping loops into your track, take it a step further by slicing them up. Rearranging loops allows you to find hidden gems within the loop that you can re-purpose to fit your pattern. Here is how you can do that:

  • Cut loops into small sections – Isolate key sections like the kick and snare from the loop.
  • Rearrange the pieces – Swap parts around, remove certain hits, or repeat specific sections to craft a pattern that feels fresh.
  • Adjust the tempo and pitch – Slightly shifting the tempo or pitch can transform a basic loop into something that sounds entirely new.

This technique lets you take a pre-made loop, break it down, and build it back up in a way that’s truly your own. It’s like using a puzzle but rearranging the pieces to create a new picture.

  1. Experiment with Rhythm Variations

Creating a unique groove often means playing with the timing of your hits. It doesn’t have to be all on the beat. Moving drum elements slightly off the grid adds a whole new feel to your track. Here is how you can do it

  • Add swing – Swing is a slight off-setting of certain hits that can create a laid-back vibe. This is especially effective with hi-hats or snares.
  • Create a shuffle – By moving specific hits forward or back, you can make your track feel less robotic and more human. This keeps listeners engaged by introducing subtle surprises.
  • Change the velocity – Lower the intensity of certain hits to emphasize others and add more dynamic contrast. For example, reducing the volume of every other hi-hat creates a rolling feel.

By experimenting with the timing and rhythm of your drum sounds, you make sure that your drum patterns aren’t just catchy but memorable too.

  1. Layer Percussion Elements
a man sitting in front of a drum set

Percussion is a great way to fill out the empty spaces in your drum patterns. When layering, think beyond just traditional drums.

Try using shakers, tambourines, or unconventional percussion like cowbells to fill gaps and add depth to your beat. This will give your track movement and energy without overloading it.

  1. Create Call and Response Patterns

This technique is a classic way to keep your drum patterns dynamic and engaging. Essentially, you’re creating a musical conversation between different drum sounds. Here’s how:

  • Choose two contrasting drum sounds – For example, a deep tom and a sharp snare.
  • Create a back-and-forth pattern – Play the tom in one measure and respond with the snare in the next.
  • Add subtle changes – Throw in a few extra hi-hats or percussive hits to keep the rhythm interesting.

The call-and-response technique gives a dynamic, evolving feel to your beats. When listeners hear a pattern that feels like it’s “talking” to itself, it naturally draws them in.

Final Thoughts

Unique drum patterns don’t have to be overly complicated. By experimenting with techniques like mixing and matching hits, chopping up loops, and creating call-and-response sections, you can craft beats that are distinct and memorable. So grab those free samples, try different combinations, and let your creativity shine!

Building a Winning Mindset:  Psychology of a Successful Casino Player

You’ve probably believed that manifestation can be a great way to attain your goal and successful casino player. However, success in the casino (online or not) isn’t just about luck or positive thinking. You should also have a solid understanding of the games you’ll be playing, managing your bankroll, and approaching your play with a strategic mindset.

So yes, just having a winning mindset can be a good approach but it may not be enough. There are other psychological factors you should consider to become a successful gambler. That’s what we’ll be taking a closer look at in this article.

Cognitive Biases in When Gambling

New or not in playing casino games, always be cautious about certain biases that could impact your decisions. Not sure what those are? Here are the most common biases gamblers are prone to:

Gambler’s Fallacy

Have you ever felt that after the losses of a series, you’re all set for a win? This is the gambler’s fallacy at work. It’s the belief that past events can influence the outcome of future events in a game of chance.

The story of how this came to be is already a serious warning of how dangerous it can be. In 1913, there was a roulette table at the Monte Carlo Casino where the ball landed on black 26 times in a row. This was highly unusual, and many of the bettors placed increasingly large bets on red, expecting the streak to end. At the end of the night, some of them lost millions and that’s what the gambler’s fallacy is.

It’s common until today and believing that there are hot and cold games is an example. To avoid the gambler’s fallacy, keep in mind that each round of the game you’re playing is independent of the other. Whatever it is you experienced in the past doesn’t matter. Always start fresh.

Confirmation Bias

Confirmation bias is when you seek information that supports your beliefs and ignore evidence that contradicts them. In gambling, this might mean you only pay attention to the total amount you win instead of how much you had to spend to get that win.

Loss Aversion

Loss aversion refers to the tendency to prefer avoiding losses over acquiring equivalent gains. In other words, the pain of losing is often more intense than the pleasure of winning. This can cause you to make overly conservative bets or, conversely, to chase losses in an attempt to break even.

Intuition vs Analysis

After understanding the cognitive biases that can influence your betting decisions, it’s essential to explore the balance between intuition and analysis. Both play crucial roles in how you approach your casino gameplay, but they operate in fundamentally different ways.

Intuition is often described as a gut feeling or an instinctive response. It’s the quick, automatic thought process that doesn’t rely on deliberate reasoning. In gambling, intuition can be influenced by your past experiences, emotions, and even subconscious patterns you’ve noticed.

For example, you might have a hunch that a particular slot machine is “hot” because you saw someone win big on it recently, or you might feel drawn to a certain roulette number.  While intuition can be helpful in some casino games, like poker where reading other players is key, it can also be misleading. Those hunches might be influenced by excitement, wishful thinking, or the overall vibe of a casino site.

On the other hand, analysis involves a more strategic approach to your casino play. This could mean:

  • Understanding the odds: Learning the probabilities of different bets in games like craps or roulette.
  • Studying basic strategy: Memorizing optimal strategies for games like blackjack can significantly improve your chances of winning.
  • Researching payout percentages: Comparing payout percentages for different slot machines can help you identify games with better odds.
  • Managing your bankroll: Setting a budget and sticking to it is crucial for responsible and successful casino play.

However, know that even with analysis, gambling always involve some luck or chance. There’s simply no foolproof system for winning every time. It’s just wise to always see premium slots available to play online or any other casino game with a more realistic mindset.

Psychological Resilience: Toughness and Handing Losses

Psychological resilience refers to your ability to cope with stress and adversity, bouncing back from losses and setbacks. In the context of gambling, resilience helps you stay focused and composed, even when things don’t go your way. Here’s how you can build and maintain psychological resilience:

Accept Losses as Part of the Game: Losses are inevitable when you’re gambling. Accepting this fact can help you avoid emotional reactions that might lead to poor decisions. Instead of dwelling on a loss, analyze what went wrong and use it as a learning opportunity.

Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that no betting strategy guarantees a win every time. Setting realistic goals and expectations can prevent disappointment and help you stay motivated.

Stay Disciplined: Stick to your gameplay plan and avoid impulsive decisions. Discipline helps you maintain control over your actions and prevents emotional and impulsive betting. This includes managing your bankroll wisely and not chasing losses.

Conclusion

So yes, a winning mindset isn’t just about your luck and intuition. It’s not even just manifesting that you end up being a successful casino player. You need to do the work to understand and overcome cognitive biases and find the difference between intuition and analysis before you place those bets.

As always, gambling can be risky and losses are inevitable. That’s why you should also prepare yourself to handle losses and even be ready and more accepting of them.

Billie Eilish + Vevo

VEVO AND BILLIE EILISH DISCUSS “LUNCH” EXCLUSIVELY ON VEVO FOOTNOTES

Billie Talks About 90s Inspiration, Challenges Filming and Spitting Out Food All Day

Billie Eilish partners with Vevo for a new installment of Footnotes, taking viewers behind the scenes of the lead single “Lunch” from her third studio album Hit Me Hard and Soft.

Billie describes the “Lunch” music video as a nostalgic tribute to the 90s music videos she grew up watching, inspired by icons like Biggie, Tupac and the Spice Girls. Aiming for simplicity, she explains that she focused on her performance and on giving the video a vintage feel, as if it were shot on an older camera. She says the most challenging part was having to eat so much food, describing how she would take bites and then have to spit them out after being full from actually eating everything at the start of the shoot. Billie reveals that longtime choreographer Matty Peacock came up with the dance in the video after first hearing the song. She also shares that she created the hook first, but needed time to sit with the song before she was able to finish it.

Billie also discusses how she and her producer, Finneas, were very experimental with sounds for the new album. She explains that Finneas would find cool things online that inspired them and that the album would be very different had they not used sounds from all the “weird little toys.” Finally, she adds that directing videos is a lot harder than it seems, but it’s something she’s been passionate about since she was younger. She describes her director of photography, Rob Witt, as amazing, so collaborative, and everything she could want in a DP.

Glorilla – Glorious Album

GRAMMY-nominated recording artist GloRilla releases her highly anticipated debut album GLORIOUS. The star-studded affair includes features from Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Sexyy Red, Kirk Franklin, Bossman Dlo, Fridayy, T-Pain, Muni Long, Kierra Sheard, Maverick City Music and Chandler Moore. The debut studio album comes after Big Glo trailblazed her way through the music industry with infectious hit records and high-profile collaborations that have won fans around the globe, including this year’s Hot 100 hits “Yeah Glo!,” “TGIF” and “Wanna Be” featuring Megan Thee Stallion.”

Listen to GLORIOUS HERE.

Along with the release of GLORIOUS, Big Glo drops off another visual in “Whatchu Know About Me” with Sexyy Red after previously releasing “Hollon” and “TGIF.” Directed by the legendary Benny Boom, Glo, and Sexyy pay homage to the 2000s rap classic “Wipe Me Down” and even have a guest appearance from Boosie to make this visual a must-watch.

Watch “Whatchu Know About Me” HERE

GloRilla has been on a tear over the last several months, starting with her previous project, a 12-track effort titled Ehhthang, Ehhthang, released in April and has generated over 550 million streams in the U.S. The mixtape propelled Glo further into the spotlight and had her dominate the summer season as two of the project’s biggest songs, 2X platinum single “Yeah Glo” and the platinum-selling hit “Wanna Be” with Megan Thee Stallion, simultaneously hit Urban Radio Top 10 list along with her biggest anthem to date, the Rihanna-co-signed and RIAA-certified gold record “TGIF.” Glo became the first female artist to achieve that feat in almost a decade and she didn’t stop there as all three songs went on to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, each peaking at the Top 30. In particular, “Wanna Be” went #1 on the Rhythmic Radio chart while “TGIF” is still active, cracking the top five.

Glo also received the key to the city of Memphis for her musical achievements in September and also performed an exhilarating set at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where she was also nominated four times and turned heads with a red carpet look inspired by Vogue, which was highlighted in a ‘Get Ready With’ piece with the iconic publication. The bonafide hitmaker also hit the road alongside Megan Thee Stallion as an opening act on her sold-out Hot Girl Summer tour earlier this summer. She was also invited to serve as a presenter at the ESPYs, iHeartRadio Music Awards, and Billboard Women in Music. The Glo train isn’t stopping there either, as the rapper has been nominated seven times for the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards this week and will perform on the big stage, too. The New York Times recently profiled Glo and lauded her as “hip-hop’s master motivator” whose husky bark “can move audiences across genres.”

KEVIN LEE-WELLINGTON

A beloved mogul, father, and husband.

To my dearest family and friends, some things I’d like to say, but first of all, let you know that I arrived okay. I’m writing this from Heaven where I dwell with God above, here there’s no more tears or sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight, remember that I’m with you every morning, noon, and night. That day, I had to leave you when my life on Earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me, and he said, “I welcome you. It’s good to have you back again. You were missed while you were gone, As for your dearest family, they’ll be here later on.”

God gave me a list of things he wished for me to do, and foremost on that list was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores put to flight, God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on Earth and all those loving years. Because you’re only human, they are bound to bring you tears, but do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain, remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you of all what God has planned, but if I were to tell you, you wouldn’t understand. But one thing is for certain though my life on Earth is over, I am closer to you now than I ever was before.

There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb, but together, we can do it taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy, and I’d like it for you too, that as you give unto the world, so the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow or in pain, then you can say to God at night, “My day was not in vain.”

And now I am contented that my life it was worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is down and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up as on your way you go.

When you are walking down the street and you have me on your mind, I am walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it’s time for you to go from that body to be free, remember you’re not going, you are coming here to me.

A Letter from Heaven

Love Kevin

HULKETTE IN SPIDER-BOY #13

HULKETTE MAKES HER SMASHING DEBUT IN SPIDER-BOY #13!

Check out Mark Bagley’s all-new variant cover for Dan Slott and Paco Medina’s SPIDER-BOY #13.

On sale in November, the issue will mark the debut of another New Champion—HULKETTE!

Last year’s New Champions Variant Covers introduced a group of all-new young heroes inspired by Marvel icons. Since then, they’ve been popping up all over the Marvel Universe in exciting, sold-out debuts—Maystorm in Ultimate X-Men, Liberty and more in Spider-Woman, Fantasma in last week’s Ghost Rider: Robbie Reyes Special, and Amaranth in Scarlet Witch #6. Next month, it’s Hulkette’s turn to smash her way into comic book canon in SPIDER-BOY #13!

Created by artist Mirka Andolfo for Sensational She-Hulk #1’s New Champions Variant Cover, HULKETTE may be small, but she packs a punch that makes her worthy of her name! Now, Dan Slott and Paco Medina deliver Hulkette’s first appearance in SPIDER-BOY #13. After an intense showdown with the titular breakout hero, future issues of Spider-Boy will reveal Hulkette’s mysterious origin and the full extent of her mighty strength!  In addition to SPIDER-BOY, fans can also look forward to seeing Hulkette in the upcoming New Champions ongoing series, which stars her fellow newly created teen heroes as they change the Marvel Universe as we know it!

On introducing the character, Slott said, “You’ll get a chance to meet Hulkette and her trainer, Enormo, as they get drawn into the action packed events of Spider-Boy and Spider-Girl’s overseas adventure in Madripoor! We’ll learn more about Hulkette and her powers as she faces off against Spider-Boy and Daredevil. There’s a big surprise in store for Marvel fans when we finally drop the secret of her origins… but for now, if you want to see this pint-sized powerhouse throw her first punches on the page, this is the issue where her journey begins.”

See Hulkette now on a newly revealed SPIDER-BOY #13 variant cover by Mark Bagley and preorder SPIDER-BOY #13 at your local comic shop today! For more information, visit Marvel.com.
