Mati Gomez × Emilia Mernes – Tu Debilidad

Artists Mati Gomez and Emilia Mernes have teamed up for the release of “Tu Debilidad” under Sony Music Latin/La Industria, accompanied by a music video. The song was produced by Gabriel E. Gonzalez and “Rec808″/Silverio Lozada. The video was directed by Santiago Lafee.

“It is a song that I really enjoyed with Emilia, beyond that is something that has happened to all of us, it connected us right away and we gave it our all when we sang it,” says Mati. “I am a dreamer who seeks to identify with many people in the world. I love different things and with this song we want to propose something very fresh and vibrant, something that will change moods! A song that I dedicate to couples who are having unnecessary bad times, this is the song that will remind you that the good often prevails and that it is worth trying and trying even more so when you know that this person is your weakness.”

The project comes after the release of “Verte,” which has over 452 thousand views on YouTube. He also dropped “Mi Viejo” in June which has reached over 522 million views.

The Chilean singer was signed by Juan Diego Medina “El Ciego” for the label La Industria Inc in 2019. Under the label, he has released singles like “Hola Ma” and “Como Nunca” as well as collaborations with MYA for the song and video “Vuelta al Mundo,” and the remix for the song “Yo no se” with Nicky Jam and Reik.

About Emilia Mernes

Maria Emilia Mernes Rueda, also known as Emilia Mernes, is an Argentine singer-songwriter, model, actress, and author. She rose to fame in 2016 as the lead singer of the cumbia-pop group Rombai. She left the band after two years to focus on her solo career and in 2019 she signed with label Sony Music Latin and management company WK Entertainment. That same year her debut single “Recalienta” was released and peaked at number 68 on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100.

aldn × midwxst – Go Away

Reston, VA artist aldn has been consistently rolling out incredible visuals from his debut EP, predictable (released November 17). The music video for “Go Away” is released. The collaborative track with fellow hyperpop artist midwxst is sullen and captures the emotions and feelings around a deceptive love and relationships that drag on beyond its expiry date. Directed by John Peterson, the video is shot in the streets of New York and features the real-life best friends in reverse. Watch the video above or via link HERE

midwxst and I shot the video the same day as the Overcast N Friends show, had a fun time running and gunning different shots basically planning the video out as we went. So happy with how it turned out,” said aldn.

Fans will be able to catch “Go Away” live as aldn joins Glaive’s upcoming national tour that will kick off in February alongside midwxst.

About aldn

Twenty-year-old aldn has been prolific in the hyperpop community for his production skills, but it wasn’t until he started laying his own vocals to the self-produced beats that it took off for the Reston, VA artist. aldn’s music turns pop songwriting on its head and finds a way to get stuck with the listener for hours on end. With its glitchy production and saccharine like melodies, aldn’s dark world is inverted through his music. While growing up in the urban jungle of Reston, he was exposed to the work of The Smiths, Radiohead, Skrillex, and deadmau5 through his brother and father. At the age of 11, he taught himself how to use an Ableton launchpad and imitate lo-fi beats. From there, he began making lo-fi and rap beats and releasing them on Soundcloud while quarantining with friends at Virginia Commonwealth University. As the whole world transitioned to a virtual existence, he turned to Discord for a sense of community which is where his breakout hit “glittr” gained massive traction—the remastered version now racks up over three million plays on Spotify. In 2021, he dropped the greenhouse EP which saw collaborations with glaive (“what was the last thing u said”), midwxst (“happy ever after”) and renforshort (“dog eat dog”). Finding inspiration in filmmaker Gaspar Noé to shapeshifting artists like Crystal Castles, Yung Lean, and Bladee, aldn’s upcoming debut EP switches gears in favor of being even more experimental in a lane of his own.

Listen HERE.

Speaking of the single, Jax said System.Inc and I bonded over a shared love of X Presidents ‘Diamond Rings,’ and earlier in the month we made this track in the studio. I played it to Steff, and she loved it. We went into the studio the next day to write the song and cut the vocal. The way she delivered both the hard rap and the singing elements were amazing. She is the Don! This one was a few weeks from studio to release. When something feels good, best not to overthink it. Put it out.”

“The Don” exemplifies the ethos of Jax‘s new label with authentic collaboration at the heart of all his music. Having longstanding ties with both collaborators the track blends genres and sounds to push the binaries of traditional dance music.

Allison Wonderland – Fuck U Love U

Alison Wonderland, one of electronic music’s most adored producer/DJ’s, closes out 2021 with her new single “Fuck U Love U.” The song is a masterclass in tension and relief with a tough as nails hook and Alison’s stargazing, fragile vocals more ‘upfront’ than ever. Listen HERE and watch the lyric video, which was directed by electro-pop singer/producer/songwriter Elohim, HERE.

Excitement hit fever pitch after Alison teased the track at her multi-night sold out Red Rocks shows and her strong performance at Lollapalooza. “Fuck U Love U,” inspired by the sounds of Kanye and Whyte Fang, is a soaring and spiritual track which highlights themes of polarity and duality of man as Alison sings of her journey through the music industry.

Alongside writing, recording, and producing furiously from lockdown, 2020/2021 has been far from a write-off for Alison. She created a five-star sanctuary in Animal Crossing, talked paranormal stuff with Loserfruit on Twitch, did a number of acclaimed sets from lockdown e.g., Digital Mirage + Lollapalooza, continued producing her globally broadcast radio show Radio Wonderland plus started a side hustle as a Youtuber. Earlier this year Alison ventured into the NFT space going live with a fantasy themed NFT project called ‘Wonderquest.’ You can read more about it: HERE.  Alison sold over $3 MILLION AUD in the initial sale and for a period the collection was Top 20 in the world. One of the rare “dragons” originally sold for $350 AUD now sells for over 10K AUD.

About Alison Wonderland

Since emerging in 2009, Alison Wonderland‘s sound has quietly inched towards mainstream ubiquity as the sonic sorceress received the “Highest Female DJ Billing Ever at Coachella,” captured #1 on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart twice consecutively (debut album ‘Run’ and sophomore album ‘Awake), headlined sold out arenas around the globe plus headlined stages at the biggest festivals in the world, and clocked upwards of 500   million streams.

Grinding it out with regular night club sets around Australia and a series of remixes for everyone from Little Dragon to Justin Bieber, she ignited an international splash in 2015 with the full-length debut, Run. Not only did it reach gold status down under, but it earned a pair of nominations at the ARIA Awards. Arriving with a bang, she made her live introduction stateside at Coachella. Fast forward to 2017, she achieved the “Best New Artist” honor at the first-ever Electronic Dance Music Awards, while her remix of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” soared to #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts.

Alison‘s 2018 sophomore effort, Awake, levelled up every element. She joined forces with an all-star cast of collaborators such as Joel Little [Lorde], Illangelo [The Weeknd], Party Favor [Mad Decent], and longtime cohort Lido. She teamed up with innovators including Chief Keef on “Dreamy Dragon” and Trippie Redd on “High.” The record became the multi-talented phenomenon’s second straight #1 bow on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart as “Church” leapt past the 14 million-mark on Spotify in a few months’ time, leading her to become Billboard Dance’s ‘Breakout Artist of 2018’ and the magazine’s 2019 Dance Issue cover star.

In 2019, between headline slots at festivals around the world, Alison also played her own headline concerts which sold over 100,000 tickets globally ߝ most recently selling out two acclaimed shows at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado (filmed in multi-camera 4K VR) in addition to producing and self-promoting her own worldwide ‘Wonderland Warehouse Project’ tour.

Simultaneously, Alison’s Radio Wonderland show clocked 5 million-plus iTunes downloads as well as broadcasting to over 20 countries and featuring prominently on the Sirius XM channel Diplo’s Revolution.

imagineRio

Scholars, tourists, and locals eager to learn more about Rio de Janeiro have a new way to dive into its history with imagineRio, a digital platform that makes visible centuries of dramatic change in the city’s built environment. Supported by a grant from the Getty Foundation, the newly enhanced digital atlas will allow users to view thousands of digitized archival photographs, architectural plans, and landscapes that animate Rio’s evolving cityscape.

Rio’s current geography is far different from its past, as city planners literally moved mountains, remade beaches, demolished neighborhoods, and constructed new buildings where there was once just water. imagineRio reveals hundreds of years of human intervention responsible for the metropolis’ iconic vistas and invites users to explore its history through architectural drawings, painted views of its shifting landscapes, and pioneering Brazilian photography transformed through 3D geolocation.

With imagineRio, urban planners can study Rio’s growth over time, local residents can reconstruct changes in their neighborhoods, art historians can speed up once time-consuming research of historic buildings and sites, and literary scholars can map out novels, among many other uses. This is all made possible through innovative geospatial and digital mapping tools and years of archival research, technical experimentation, and cross-continental collaboration.

imagineRio was funded as part of the Getty Foundation’s Digital Art History initiative, an ongoing effort to utilize the latest digital technologies for art historical research.

“There are tremendous opportunities for art historians to apply tools like digital mapping to reshape our understanding of how cities and their cultural landscapes develop,” said Heather MacDonald, senior program officer at the Getty Foundation. “imagineRio lets users see in a few seconds an urban evolution that took decades to unfold.

One of imagineRio’s new features is a trove of over 3,000 geolocated photographs of the city from the 19th and 20th centuries, drawn from the extensive photography collections at Brazil’s Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS). Viewers can browse some of Rio’s most recognizable sites over time, including Christ the Redeemer atop Corcovado Mountain, Copacabana Beach, and Sugarloaf Mountain, alongside historical maps, architectural plans, and earlier views of the city that were painted or sketched by artists. Users can create filtered views with categories such as creator, year, and building type to produce customized searches from over two terabytes of data.

“We were originally warned against taking on such a long span of Rio’s history, but we somehow pulled it off,” said Farès el-Dahdah, professor of Art History at Rice University. “imagineRio now covers the entire evolution of the city, not only as it once was but also as it has been imagined along the way. This is only possible thanks to the brilliant GIS team at the Spatial Studies Lab and our skilled partners at Axis Maps and IMS.”

The IMS images now added to imagineRio represent the work of dozens of photographers, including two who had profound roles in documenting the evolution of Rio’s built environment. Marc Ferrez (1843-1923) pushed the limits of photographic technology by using large-format and panoramic devices to record views of construction sites, while Augusto Malta (1864-1957) was hired by Rio’s mayor Francisco Pereira Passos as the city’s official photographer to chronicle radical urban change in the early 20th century. Among other historical moments, Malta’s photographs show the demolition of the Morro do Castelo (Castle Hill) historic area as part of the “Bota Abaixo” or “Bring it Down” urban reform campaign. The goal of this campaign was to gentrify the area to rid Rio of its reputation in the early 19th century as an “unhealthy city,” which included sanitizing, renovating, or demolishing buildings such as tenements, rooming houses, and inns.

“imagineRio allows users to peer over the shoulders of some of Brazil’s most celebrated photographers as they capture a city changing before their eyes,” said Sergio Burgi, head of photography at IMS. “The platform’s new 3D integration transforms these photographs from singular, flat images into a tapestry of interactive moments.”

All of the new photographic additions have been geolocated by technical experts at IMS over a temporally-accurate 3D model of the city. About ten percent of these are processed further through a partnership with Smapshot, a web-based forum that uses crowdsourcing to pinpoint the location of historic photographs in a 3D format with even greater precision.

“Digital mapping propels the past into the present, and there is so much more to come,” said David Heyman, technical lead at Axis Maps who worked with the project team. “We’ve built a solid foundation for imagineRio so that the team can keep experimenting. Engaging more with computer vision, increasing interactivity, going from 3D to 4D–the future is full of possibilities.”

For more information on how to use imagineRio, watch this brief video introduction.

imagineRio was initially developed by professors Farès el-Dahdah and Alida C. Metcalf in collaboration with the Center for Research Computing’s Spatial Studies Lab at Rice University and Axis Maps. The latest platform enhancements made possible by the Getty grant were completed in partnership with Sergio Burgi, Martim Passos, and previously Bruno Buccalon at the Instituto Moreira Salles. In addition to support from the Getty Foundation, the project has also received the financial and technical support of Rice University’s Office of Information Technology, Ken Kennedy Institute, Baker Institute, Fondren Library, the Humanities Research Center, the Department of History, and the Office for Global and Digital Strategy.

“The success of Immersive Van Gogh has demonstrated that audiences are excited to experience art in a new way. Our Italian creative team are experts at digitally exploring masterworks in such a way that viewers are not merely passive observers. They obtain an even richer understanding of the artist by seeing the work as its creator might have,” said Lighthouse Immersive Producer Corey Ross. “That said, Siccardi presents Kahlo’s works in a format very distinct from that which he utilized in examining Van Gogh’s. He does not try to unify the many styles Kahlo used in her lifetime, but instead, presents them to us as a series of kinetic tableaus that may initially contradict–but eventually illuminate–each other.”

Frida Kahlo’s work is uniquely suited to be explored in an immersive environment and her life story is equally fascinating,” added Lighthouse Immersive Producer Svetlana Dvoretsky. “Kahlo lived her life as one giant journey of exploration, and her art mirrored that journey. Our goal is to give our viewers more than an examination of her work; we also hope they will leave with a richer understanding of the smart, complex woman who created these timeless masterpieces.”

“In this piece, we will chase Frida’s world, always in motion,” adds Siccardi. “We will discover her tenderness and hostilities by taking in her observations and fantasies. Our hope is that viewers will let themselves be penetrated by Frida’s stories, and in so doing, live vicariously through her.”

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of the producing team bringing the amazing work of Frida Kahlo to Los Angeles,” said Vito Iaia, Co-Producer and Co-Founder of Impact Museums. “Following on the incredible response to the Immersive Van Gogh show, we are confident that FRIDA: IMMERSIVE DREAM will take fans on another groundbreaking journey through the mind of one of the world’s most celebrated artists.”

Kahlo’s work bridges surrealist and magic realism traditions–blending authentic depictions of her life with fantastical elements reflecting her inner thoughts and struggles. Folk art, mysticism, surrealism, magic realism and a notably revealing series of self-portraits are all included in the projections. Among the works featured in the piece are The Two Fridas (1939), The Wounded Deer (1946), and Diego and I (1946), intermingled with an assortment of photographs, drawings and iconography. Alongside her paintings, Siccardi’s piece also includes photos of Kahlo at various ages and images of figures from Kahlo’s life that influenced her worldview. The projections are shown on Lighthouse Immersive’s massive architectural canvas, using state-of-the-art projectors for a crisp image and high-quality sound systems that heighten the mood-setting score.

All proceeds from Megan and Cash App’s collaboration on the clothing collection will go toward supporting charitable projects focused on education, housing and health and wellness in Megan’s hometown of Houston as well as across the globe.

“I’m really proud of this apparel collection with Cash App,” Megan said. “Not only did we create a fierce and stylish look for my Hotties, but we’re also giving back to communities in need in a meaningful way.”

The limited-edition collection comes after Megan and Cash App previously partnered to give away $1 million in stock to advocate the importance of financial literacy. As part of the announcement, she also released an investing tutorial on YouTube with Cash App called “Investing for Hotties,” where she educated viewers on various financial concepts, such as dollar-cost averaging and diversification.
