Michaels × Project Sunshine

The Michaels Companies, Inc. and Project Sunshine are partnering this holiday season to bring joy to pediatric patients and their families with a new Under the Sea Craft Kit for kids to use during their hospital stay. Project Sunshine, which provides support for families facing medical challenges and healing through the power of play, worked with Michaels, the largest arts and crafts retailer in North America, to create more than 30,000 Craft Kits. The Craft Kits will be sent to hospitals across the country for young patients facing illness or other medical challenges. The rollout begins at Children’s Health in Dallas in December and will continue across the U.S. and Canada next year.

The Michaels and Project Sunshine Under the Sea Craft Kits are individualized packets of materials to inspire play and engagement, spark joy and provide therapeutic value to the physical and emotional healing process. Delivered in an illustrated seascape canvas bag that patients can paint and customize, each Craft Kit comes with a submarine notebook for self-expression, a velvet cat-mermaid ornament, a wooden shark and seashell windchime, a yarn fish stitch kit, markers and a paint set.

To kick off this initiative, Michaels CEO Ashley Buchanan and Project Sunshine Executive Director Whitney Namm Pollack visited Children’s Health in Dallas, Texas on Thursday, December 16, 2021, to deliver these new Craft Kits to the hospital. Additionally, Children’s Health Child Life Specialists decorated a patient playroom to bring more joy to families at the hospital during the holiday season.

“As a father of three, I feel for the families going through long-term hospital stays,” said Ashley Buchanan, CEO, The Michaels Companies. “Together, with Project Sunshine, we are happy to inspire creativity and provide a bit of entertainment to these children and their families, one Craft Kit at a time.”

“The Project Sunshine and Michaels partnership ensures that 30,000 hospitalized children across the United States will experience play and joy through this new Craft Kit. The power of creativity that Michaels provides is a healthy distraction and supports healing at a much-needed time,” said Whitney Namm Pollack, Executive Director of Project Sunshine.

In this first year of partnership, Michaels Team Members and customers raised $120,000 to support Project Sunshine during the month of July 2021 with a point-of-sale donation option at retail locations across the country. Michaels and Project Sunshine will continue this partnership in 2022.

Hedon × Krazy Horse

Hedon Helmets, the manufacturer of the world’s most luxurious and stylish motorcycle, bicycle and e-bike helmets, have a bold and refreshing retake on motorcycle culture. Flying the flags of individuality and style, they defy conformity and champion the eclectic.

Krazy Horse is much loved and highly influential in the UK moto community. Krazy Horse is a group of motorcycle, car and e-bike dealerships started by Paul Beamish as a hobby when he couldn’t get the bike parts he needed locally. Importing Harley Davidson parts, they started the business out of a wooden shed.

Since opening in 1995, Krazy Horse has grown massively. Thousands of customers visit their four showrooms every year to buy motorbikes, cars and now eBikes. They have become destination venues where petrol-heads (and now e-heads) can gather to indulge in their passions.

Paul has an eclectic taste in motorcycles, and currently stocks Indian, MV Agusta, Cabellero, Norton, Paton, Zaeta, Fantic, Zero Engineering, Energica and he builds custom motorcycles under the Krazy Horse Customs moniker.

Customers can also get their vehicles serviced, enjoy some retail therapy in the Krazy Horse lifestyle and apparel store, hang out and eat hearty food in the Krazy Horse Cafe. They also stage regular events at their Bury St Edmunds HQ, with bike and hotrod drive-in nights with bands, food and all sorts of shenanigans.

Krazy Horse have been supporters of Hedon since the start, having offered their helmets in all of their retail stores. To celebrate their friendship they decided to collaborate on a one-off helmet.

Krazy Horse wanted to create a helmet that represented Paul’s unique and bold personality. Paul loves Art Deco, as well as the color silver. It didn’t take long for Hedon’s Creative and Art Director Lindsay to come up with a design that was able to reflect that. Dark geometric silhouettes and shapes are one of the fundamentals in Art Deco which is why the Xtasy design was a great base.

The Hedon x Krazy Horse helmet is built on the classic Hedonist fiberglass and carbon-fiber open-faced shell. Its black diagonal cross cuts across a black base and a white top, with hand applied silver-flake sides. The Krazy Horse logo adorns the rear of the shell with the Hedon logo on the brow.

The helmet is trimmed with natural calf leather trim and lining, with gunmetal hardware and plate. It has Hed armor lining with 360-degree cushion padding. It can be paired with a Hedon shield or bubble visor in an array of colors or can be twinned with goggles.

The helmet is available for the Hedon or Krazy Horse website in early 2022. The price is $495.

Reckoning War: Trial of the Watcher

It’s a Marvel epic fifteen years in the making! Dan Slott’s long-awaited RECKONING WAR saga begins this February, kicking off in FANTASTIC FOUR: RECKONING WAR ALPHA #1 and then unfolding in the pages of FANTASTIC FOUR. The story will shed light on the First War that rocked the Marvel Universe, a conflict that preceded Asgard, Galactus, and all the heroes you know and love. That war will now reignite and only the Fantastic Four can defend the universe from the chaos it will unleash. Central to the action will be the Watcher who has a shocking tale to tell in RECKONING WAR: TRIAL OF THE WATCHER #1, an upcoming one-shot written by Slott with art by Javier Rodrìguez.

In all of the Multiverse, there is only one “What If” world that Uatu has avoided watching – one “What If” that he never wished to see. And now it will be revealed – The story that could damn him for all time…and a revelation that could change everything in this universe.

“One of the key players in all of this is Uatu,” Slott explained to Newsarama. “[The original war] is something the Watchers have been keenly aware of, and the possible thought of it happening again brought Uatu back. Maybe it’s time for the Watcher to stop watching and start doing.”

Discover the secret that could make Uatu break his sacred oath when RECKONING WAR: TRIAL OF THE WATCHER #1 arrives on March 16. And don’t miss the opening shot of the RECKONING WAR when FANTASTIC FOUR: RECKONING WAR ALPHA #1 hits stands on February 2.

CosenSys Rollups

ConsenSys, the leading Ethereum software company, announced the launch of ConsenSys Rollups, to provide enterprise-grade scalability to leading financial organizations, addressing the key use case of scalable applications on the Ethereum blockchain. ConsenSys leveraged the expertise of Mastercard’s engineering team to design the ConsenSys Rollups solution.

The creativity of projects on Ethereum is exploding in areas such as decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFT), gaming, Web 3.0 and the metaverse. Ethereum’s usage is at an all-time-high, with the number of Ethereum addresses exceeding 177 million and tens of thousands more added each day. While high network usage indicates strong adoption, it also establishes a need for scalability and privacy-enhancing solutions.

With this in mind, ConsenSys engaged Mastercard to co-develop key building blocks to make blockchain technology scalable on the Ethereum Mainnet or for private use, providing benefits for all stakeholders in the ecosystem.

ConsenSys Rollups is an innovative modular software solution for permissioned blockchain applications focused on providing scalability and privacy capabilities that can be connected to any Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchain. It can be used on the Ethereum Mainnet, or on private ConsenSys Quorum networks. ConsenSys Rollups leverage zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to protect specific transaction elements, such as account balances, sender, recipient, and amount, to prevent this important transaction data from being shared publicly across the network – significantly enhancing the privacy and confidentiality of transactions. Zero-knowledge proof technologies enable one party to verify their knowledge of something to another party without having to convey the information itself. ZK proofs can then be used to verify and certify batches of transactions without having to execute them directly on the blockchain network. Solutions built with ConsenSys Rollups can currently achieve a throughput of up to 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) on a private chain while only 300 TPS can be achieved on private chains and 15 on the Ethereum Mainnet.

Programmability on zero-knowledge rollups is designed to enable additional functionalities in the future. Even higher transaction throughputs are expected to be possible through reliance on trusted parties for data availability.

“ConsenSys Rollups enables vastly more scalability in addition to strong privacy protections to both enhance solutions for existing use-cases and enable new use-cases. This innovative solution will help accelerate the building of the future of finance”, said Madeline Murray, Global Lead of Protocol Engineering at ConsenSys.

ConsenSys Rollups will enable more types of blockchain use cases. By increasing scalability and confidentiality for asset transfers, ConsenSys Rollups enables the implementation of new, innovative use-cases including:

  • Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs): CBDCs issuance on top of a ConsenSys Rollups powered Quorum network can provide scalability and privacy capabilities for digital currency transfers among central banks, commercial banks, and retail users.
  • Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs): DEXs built with Rollups will bring scalability to Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and NFTs, and more use cases on Ethereum that need faster settlement but the security guarantees of Ethereum.
  • Micropayments: Micro payment applications that see users pay, for example, on a per-stream or per-view basis will require high throughput to properly function as large numbers of users interact with platforms and decentralized applications (dapps). Rollups on mainnet will allow Ethereum to scale to meet the demand of new Web3 economic paradigms without network congestion, high fees, or finality challenges.
  • Private transfer and taxes: ConsenSys Rollups open a new pattern for confidentiality on the Ethereum Mainnet, or on Quorum powered networks. With partially anonymous rollups, users can transfer or swap tokens and transact with partial anonymity. Use-cases that require auditability and transparency but also maintain user confidentiality will be enabled with rollup solutions. This could remove the next barrier to entry for more DeFi or cryptocurrency users on new services.

Raj Dhamodharan, Executive Vice President of Digital Assets and Blockchain Products and Partnerships at Mastercard says,We believe there is real potential in blockchain technology helping to solve real-world problems. We’re in the early stages but are starting to see efficiencies in how permissioned and private chain product constructs use open-source technologies. Our work with partners like ConsenSys will continue to advance this space.”

ConsenSys Rollups is compatible with all tokens that follow the ERC20 standard.

About Consensys

Girl Named Tom Wins The Voice

Sibling trio Girl Named Tom, featuring Caleb (26), Joshua (24) and Bekah (20) Liechty from Pettisville, Ohio, and currently living in South Bend, Indiana, were crowned the champions of “The Voice.”

Girl Named Tom faced tough competition from the other finalists – Hailey Mia, also from Team Kelly, Wendy Moten and Paris Winningham from Team Blake, and Jershika Maple from Team Legend.

In their Blind Audition, the trio, known for their beautiful family harmonies, earned a four-chair turn from all coaches for their rendition of “Helplessly Hoping” by Crosby, Stills & Nash. After an intense deliberation, the siblings chose Kelly Clarkson as their coach. They went on to win their Battle Round with a show-stopping performance of “Seven Bridges Road” by the Eagles and then their Knockout Round as well with a truly breathtaking interpretation of “Wichita Lineman” by Glen Campbell.

During the live rounds, Girl Named Tom stepped out of their sweet spot in the folk genre to take on Coldplay’s iconic “Viva la Vida.” After impressing coaches with their ability to pivot musical styles, they secured a spot in the Top 5 with a stunning cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River.”

On Monday night’s telecast, Girl Named Tom once again showed their range with two timeless classics – “Baby Now That I’ve Found You” by The Foundations and “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac.

On tonight’s finale, Caleb, Joshua and Bekah were joined on stage by Clarkson for a catchy cover of “Leave Before You Love Me” by Marshmello and the Jonas Brothers.

Girl Named Tom is the first act in the 21 seasons of “The Voice” to have four of their songs in the iTunes Top 10 at the same time. In addition, the group reached #1 twice on the main iTunes Top 200 chart with “River,” and “The Chain.” “Hits From the Road,” the group’s self-titled album that was released in February, is currently #17 on the iTunes Top Albums chart, making them the first act in the show’s history to have songs also charting in the Top 200 from their own self-released album.

Girl Named Tom was the #1 most-viewed act on YouTube this season, with 8.9 million collective views.

About Girl Named Tom

Hailing from a small town, this sibling trio was initially homeschooled where music became a big part of their curriculum. They enrolled in piano lessons at a young age and joined theater once they started attending public school. Despite their artistic upbringing, they all planned to become doctors, but things changed when their father was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2017. When Bekah finished high school and the boys finished college, their father’s prognosis was still unknown, so they decided to spend more time as a family and formed their trio in 2019. Girl Named Tom is grateful for the chance to bring joy to their family and hopes to make their hometown proud on “The Voice.”

Coheed and Cambria – The Great Destroyer Tour

Coheed and Cambria have announced details of “The Great Destroyer Tour,” a U.S. headline run which will feature support from special guests Sheer Mag. The coast-to-coast trek is set to get underway on February 16th at the legendary Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA and will continue through mid-March giving audiences an opportunity to see the band live in intimate clubs across the U.S. Pre-sales for tickets to “The Great Destroyer Tour” will begin tomorrow, December 15th at 10:00AM local time with general on sale starting Friday, December 17th at 10:00AM local time. For tickets and more information on the “The Great Destroyer Tour,” click HERE.

The upcoming winter dates will see Coheed and Cambria performing their 2021 singles “Rise, Naianasha (Cut The Cord)” and “Shoulders,” the latter of which is currently Top 10 at Active Rock Radio, marking the group’s career highest radio chart position to date. “A total banger, as explosive and catchy as anything they’ve ever released,” declared REVOLVER who placed “Shoulders” in their weekly Best New Songs Right Now round-up. “Coheed and Cambria are back, and they’re heavy as ever,” asserted Billboard, with Guitar World attesting “Coheed and Cambria have come out swinging.” Brooklyn Vegan observed, “It finds the band embracing their love of classic heavy metal riffage, before exploding into the kind of soaring chorus that Coheed have been churning out since day one, they sound pretty damn inspired.”

Furthermore, Coheed and Cambria vocalist/guitarist Claudio Sanchez sat down with GRAMMY.com earlier this year for an in-depth interview discussing details of the band’s imminent new album while also examining Vaxis, an emerging central figure in the sci-fi universe of “The Amory Wars”, previewing his origin story and expanding the mythos.

About Coheed and Cambria

For the last 20 years, Coheed and Cambria have continuously broken the mold of what a rock band can be, forging their own path and building a universe around their music unlike any other. Whether it is in the way their genre-spanning approach to songwriting has allowed them to bridge worlds without being contained to one, or the multifaceted story arc of their albums and comic book series which mark the longest running concept story in music, Coheed and Cambria have consistently shaped new standards, never conformed. Comprised of Claudio Sanchez (Vocals/Guitar), Travis Stever (Guitar), Josh Eppard (Drums) and Zach Cooper (Bass) the band has gripped listeners and press around the globe with their visionary compositions and conceptual mastery. In 2018, Coheed and Cambria made a stunning debut with their album Vaxis I: The Unheavenly Creatures, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s “Hard Rock Albums” chart, #6 current sales and Top 15 on the “Billboard 200” chart.
