(G)I-DLE – I Never Die

(G)I-DLE released their first full album, I NEVER DIE with the title track, “TOMBOY.” The album contains (G)I-DLE‘s feelings and thoughts on not only the prejudice against themselves but on all the world. (G)I-DLE‘s comeback is good news for many global K-pop fans, including their fandom who have been supporting them for a long time.

The title track, “TOMBOY,” which fully reveals (G)I-DLE‘s unique confident attitude, has straightforward lyrics such as, “I’m not a doll,” and “Just me I-DLE.” It shows off bold charms and presents the group as uncontrollable, eccentric characters. In addition, the hook that is made up of (G)I-DLE’s unique vocals and grand instrumental sounds.

The B-side tracks written and composed by (G)I-DLE members confirm the group’s unique flavor and wide musical spectrum.

The full album contains nine tracks: “TOMBOY,” “Never Stop Me,” “VILLAIN DIES,” “MY BAG,” “TOMBOY (CD Only),” which are co-composed and written by SOYEON, “ALREADY,” “ESCAPE,” which are co-composed by MINNIE, and “POLAROID,” and “LIAR” which are co-composed and co-written by YUQI. By fully showcasing skills that they have been building up over the years, and capturing the messages they wanted to convey, the album shows (G)I-DLE’s broadened range of musical capabilities. The compositions are incredibly authentic.

The fourth mini-album, “FIRE,” which was released last year, topped the iTunes album charts in 52 regions around the world and ranked 173rd on the Billboard Global Excl. US, breaking (G)I-DLE’s own record and giving them an unrivaled presence.

(G)I-DLE, a group that has been unstoppable in the K-pop market with their outstanding conceptual performances and music, has confidently finished their preparation for this comeback.

Regard × Years & Years – Hallucination

Clocking over 5 million streams, Regard‘s latest single “HALLUCINATION” with pop royalty Years & Years is climbing the charts globally. The pair released the official music video for the track, honing in a dystopian era.  Watch the video HERE.

In a darkened room lit only by eccentric characters, a dance competition takes place, with evident inspiration coming from the likes of the 1969 Sydney Pollack film, They Shoot Horses Don’t They, Squid Game, and Black Mirror. The music video showcases a cut-throat survival game, one with Regard as the puppet master and Years & Years striving to survive, plagued by intense competitiveness.

Complete with contemporary choreography, extravagant fashion and costumes, and a tense storyline, the video is a perfect contradiction to the ‘80s inspired synth-pop dance record.

Speaking about the video, director Sophia Ray says: “The concept for the video was inspired by the 1969 Sydney Pollack film They Shoot Horses Don’t They, we wanted to take the themes from this cult classic and then give the video our own creative spin on them. Setting it in a contemporary, perplexing, dystopian space. The video places Olly Alexander, as an apprehensive contestant, at the center of a ‘Dance-to-the-Death’ endurance marathon, where he has to sweat, pant, dive, and dance his way to an exhausted victory (driven by Meshach Henry’s trailblazing choreography). Regard, all the while, being a mysteriously sinister driving force behind-the-scenes of this dark competition.”

With nominations for a BRIT Award, American Music Award, and iHeart Radio Awards under his belt, the new single—and Regard‘s first release of 2022—is yet another example of the powerhouse producer’s versatility as he experiments with themes of 80s disco and synth-pop. The collaboration with Years & Years adds to his impressive record of collaborators including RAYE, Troye Sivan, Tate McRae, and more recently Kwabs on their single “Signals,” marking the singer’s first release since 2015.

About Regard

It was by accident that REGARD found his stage name. The word, “regardé,” came to the DJ during French class in high school. “To see” became the core behind Regard’s music. “When I perform,” he says, “I look at the people and how they feel the music.” For REGARD, his deep house mixes consist not only of sound, but also of sight. Performance is a reciprocal and intimate relationship between the DJ and the audience. Kosovan DJ and producer REGARD garnered global attention with his debut single “Ride It” which became an international hit, taking the internet and TikTok by storm and quickly followed it up with his second hit single and BRIT nominated “Secrets” featuring South London singer RAYE. He has gone on to achieve over 10X top 10 single chart placements globally. In the UK, “Ride It” has sold over 1 million records to date (2x Platinum), while “Secrets” was recently certified Platinum.

Dona Peron

Ballet Hispanico, the nation’s renowned Latinx dance organization recognized as one of America’s Cultural Treasures, announces the New York premiere of Doña Peròn at New York City Center, April 1-3, 2022, the concluding performances of Ballet Hispanico’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, on Friday & Saturday at 7:30 PM, Saturday & Sunday at 2 PM. The Company will perform as part of the first City Center Dance Festival which showcases New York companies making their triumphant return to the City Center stage after more than two years away. Tickets can be purchased online HERE, by phone (212-581-1212,) or in-person with New York City Center

Choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa to music by Peter Salem, Doña Peròn is the first full evening-length work commissioned by the Company and reclaims the narrative of the iconic Latina figure by a Latina choreographer. The work is an explosive portrait of Eva “Evita” Peròn, one of the most recognizable, and controversial, women in Argentinian history. The illegitimate daughter of a prosperous farmer, Evita concealed this shameful past as she rose the ranks from dancehall performer to Argentina’s First Lady—all before her untimely death at the age of 33.

Doña Peròn brings to light the extremes of power at the forefront of Evita’s life. Her work as an activist and advocate for Argentina’s women and working-class raised skepticism as she indulged in the opulence of a high-class life. A voice for the people, or a deceitful actress? Ochoa explores these diverging legacies and more in this seminal work, marking Ballet Hispanico’s move beyond their 50th Anniversary and the continuation of centering the voices of Latinx artists.

“She’s not a fairytale character, she’s not a literary character,” said Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. “She’s a real woman, and for me, it’s interesting to put her on stage because she’s difficult to pinpoint. I want to give female dancers real roles, not always the nice roles. Women are complex and it’s nice to show all of these facets. I’m very grateful that I can put this woman, Evita Peròn, on stage as a female choreographer.”

About the Artists

Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Choreographer) has been choreographing since 2003 following a twelve-year dance career in various contemporary dance companies throughout Europe. She has created works for sixty dance companies worldwide including Ballet Hispanico, Atlanta Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Compañia Nacional de Danza, Dutch National Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve, Goteborg Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, BJM-Danse Montreal, New York City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, English National Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, to name a few. In 2012, her first full-length work, A Streetcar Named Desire, originally created for the Scottish Ballet, received the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for “Best Classical Choreography” and was nominated for a prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production the following year. Annabelle was the recipient of the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award in 2019.

Nancy Meckler (Artistic Collaborator) is a director known for her work in the United Kingdom with Shared Experience, where she was a joint Artistic Director alongside Polly Teale. Meckler has directed a production of I.D. She was a member of London-based collective the Freehold Theatre Company (1969-1973), where she eventually became Director. The group employed devising methodology to create work and was the first company to receive the John Whiting Award for “new and distinctive development in dramatic writing,” traditionally given to playwrights.

Peter Salem (Music) is very much in demand as a ballet composer and has recently completed his third ballet, Broken Wings, for the English National Ballet, which opened to huge critical and popular success in April 2016. His media work is also internationally renowned, principally his music for Call the Midwife, which won the Best Television Programme Music category at the Music and Sound Awards 2016, as well as other high profile productions. His extensive theater work includes many scores for productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and Shared Experience Theatre.

Mark Eric (Costume Design) is a costume and fashion designer based in New York City, where he trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology. After designing for several New York City fashion houses, he discovered his passion for costuming for the stage. He enjoys bringing his couture fashion sensibility to his design, often employing artisanal techniques when creating his signature costumes. He has designed costumes for Robert Battle, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Rennie Harris, Robbie Fairchild, Stefanie Batten Bland, Andrew McNicol, and Marguerite Donlon to name a few. He has costumed works for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, BalletX, Ballet Hispanico, and Ailey II, among others.

Christopher Ash (Lighting, Set, and Video Design) is a Philadelphia-based Designer and Filmmaker whose work has been seen in 13 countries and has been recognized for 15 awards. He is equally at home designing projections, scenery, or lighting for theater, opera, and dance as well as direction and cinematography for film. Christopher is currently involved in a multi-phase Guggenheim Works and Process commission with artist John Jarboe. He is also co-creator of an ongoing multi-sensory performance piece “Body Language” with Dublin-based dance artist David Bolger and CoisCéim Dance Theatre.

Lady de Rothschild Collection

Silver, tableware, and jewelry from the private collection of style icon, philanthropist, and taste-maker, Victoria Lady de Rothschild (1949-2021), proved highly popular, with every single lot selling in Dreweatts fine jewelry, silver, watches, and luxury accessories two-day sale, which has concluded.

Victoria was born to an American father and married the British banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, of the illustrious Rothschild banking family. Upon moving to London, she managed to cross the transatlantic divide into British society. She was very well-connected, wealthy and with her impeccable taste, she amassed an outstanding private collection of artwork, iconic design pieces, silver, tableware, furniture, and jewelry.

The top lot in the sale was from Lady Victoria de Rothschild’s jewelry collection. A four-row coral beaded necklace, which epitomized her personal taste for statement beads by new designers and craftsmen, achieved £35,000 against a pre-sale estimate of £800-£1,200. Two further stunning coral necklaces from her collection realized £18,750 against a pre-sale estimate of £300-£500.

Victoria’s silver and tableware featured unique statement pieces by a range of designers, from antique to contemporary. Among them was a stunning pair of Late George III silver gilt twin-handled cups, by Paul Storr (1770-1844), the greatest English goldsmith and silversmith of the 19th century. Storr was notable for his exquisite tableware, as well as his magnificent Royal commissions for grand monumental pieces. The pair of beautifully detailed cups in the sale, dated 1817, sold for £32,000 against an estimate of £6,000-£8,000.

The sale also included a private collection of silver stashed away in boxes by an English gentleman who started his collection in the mid-19th century and was found by the current generation of his family decades later. The fascinating treasure trove was found to contain forty exceptionally rare early spoons, some from as far back as the 1400s. This proved to be extremely desirable with every lot selling!  Among the star lots were some exceptional examples of apostle spoons. Apostle spoons are the most recognized of all antique spoons, as their figural finials depict the 12 apostles, each identified by the emblems they carry. A further detail is found on top of the apostle is a round disc (known as a nimbus), depicting a holy dove. Apostle spoons date from as early as the 14th Century and, due to their popularity, were produced up until the 17th Century in England.

A Henry VIII silver apostle spoon in the sale achieved a staggering £27,000 against a pre-sale estimate of £8,000-£12,000 and a second Henry VIII apostle spoon sold for £25,000 against a pre-sale estimate of £6,000-£8,000, showing the demand for them.

Antique jewelry was another area of the sale that performed exceptionally well, with competitive bidding for a beautiful single stone diamond ring, which sold for £21,250 against a pre-sale estimate of £10,000-£15,000. There was spirited bidding on all platforms for a stylish 1930s French diamond and emerald bracelet, which sold for £18,750 against an estimate of £5,000-£7,000. Also popular was a Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra diamond set bracelet, which sold for £16,250 against an estimate of £16,250.

Commenting on this spectacular sale, James Nicholson, Deputy Chairman and International Head of Jewelry, Silver, and Watches at Dreweatts said, “It has been thrilling two days of frenetic bidding from buyers all over the world who responded across the collecting disciplines of antique and modern silver, jewelry, and luxury accessories. The 549 lots Dreweatts offered spanned a date range of 500 years, from the early 16th century to the 21st century. To be involved with the sale of these marvelous collections has been absolutely wonderful. The market continues to respond in such a positive manner to private collections with unrivaled provenance, as seen in this sale, in which all but one lot, out of the whole auction remained unsold—quite an indication of how much demand there is in the market.”
