Roberto E. Wirth

Yesterday, Sunday, June 5, Roberto E. Wirth passed away suddenly at the age of 72. Fifth generation of a Swiss family of hoteliers and profoundly deaf since birth, Roberto Wirth always had a dream since childhood: to run a completely independent hotel and become a respected hotelier.

Thanks to his determination, always keeping his goal in mind, he succeeded in making his Hassler an icon in the International hospitality business. The Hassler has always been his passion as well as his home. With his motto “Never give up,” over the years he managed to develop the family business and expand its portfolio: Il Palazzetto in Rome, Parco del Principe in Tuscany, Borgo Bastia Creti in Umbria, and Hotel Vannucci in Citt della Pieve, also in Umbria.

My five jewels,” he would say. These were and forever will be Mr. Wirth’s treasures.

His education and training started in Milan, at the Stresa Hospitality School, followed by experiences at Cornell University which allowed him to become the great man and entrepreneur we all knew. Brilliant, attentive, and forward-thinking, he has never ceased his personal commitment both to his city of Rome, where as president of the Via Sistina-via F. Crispi Association he has always fought for the redevelopment and decorum of the historic center, and to his non-profit organization, the Assistance Center for Deaf and Deafblind Children (CABSS).

Since 2004, his foundation CABSS has been supporting deaf and deaf-blind children from newborn to 6 years old as well as their families. Sharing his personal achievements in his biography Silence was my first friend, he carried his message forward: “Always look ahead with determination and confidence. Everything is possible in life and, with commitment, everyone can make it. We, deaf people can do everything but hear.” In 1992, he established a Fulbright – Roberto Wirth scholarship giving young both deaf and hearing graduates the opportunity to specialize at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C. Gallaudet University is the only bilingual (American Sign Language and English) university in the world that is also accessible to deaf and deaf-blind students.

The best way to honor his memory is to treasure his life and how he led by example, cultivating values of humanity, responsibility and open-mindedness. His children Veruschka and Roberto Jr will now carry on their father’s legacy with the utmost pride.

Azulito, the Little Blue Penguin via Jordann Tomasek for use by 360 Magazine

Azulito the Penguin

Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego officially named one of their Little Blue Penguins. After receiving nearly 2,500 votes, this charismatic penguin will be named Azulito, which translates to “little blue” in Spanish. The name reveal took place Friday morning in the aquarium’s Giant Kelp Forest. Divers unfurled a banner underwater with the winning name surrounded by Leopard Sharks, Moray Eels and swaying kelp fronds while some of the Little Blues looked on.

“This is the first time we have invited the public to help name one of our animals. So, it was a special moment for aquarium fans as well as our staff. We hope this is the beginning of a long tradition of naming our penguins,” said Kayla Strate, lead penguin aquarist. “We want to thank everyone who submitted a name online. Azulito is the perfect fit for this tiny penguin and we love that it’s a nod to our binational region.”

Voters were asked to choose between five names — each option with unique ties to San Diego, Scripps Oceanography and UC San Diego — during a naming campaign that launched on World Penguin Day (April 25). Azulito won by a landslide with 924 votes. Diego trailed behind with 588 votes and Flip came in third with 438, followed by Triton and Torrey with 234 and 281 votes, respectively.

Later this month, Azulito — along with Magic, Nero, Persimmon, Reka, Cornelius and Katie — will move into their new home. Guests can meet Azulito and the rest of the colony starting July 12 when Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins opens.

The 2,900 square foot exhibit follows the world’s smallest penguins on their journey from hatchlings to adults, highlighting the challenges they face in a changing climate while celebrating the features that make Little Blues so unique (and adorable).

Penguin lovers will now be able to spend more time with the aquarium’s newest residents when the aquarium’s summer hours kick off on July 1. The aquarium will stay open until 7 p.m. daily, from July 1 to September 5, 2022.

Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins is included in the cost of general admission to Birch Aquarium which is $24.95 for adults and $19.95 for children ages 3-17. Tickets for July are now available online. Advanced reservations are required for all guests, including members. Visit HERE for more information or to make a reservation.

Before – NIKI

Today, Jakarta-born, LA-based singer-songwriter, and producer NIKI unveils her new single and accompanying video for “Before.” The track is the first single from her forthcoming album Nicole. NIKI first announced the album on her social media pages earlier this week, read more HERE.

Stream/download the track HERE.

Watch the music video HERE.

The reflective record is tinged with nostalgia and sees NIKI yearning for a past relationship that has come to an end and grappling with navigating her feelings and how to let go. The reverb-drenched and scaled-back production of the track highlights NIKI’s lyrical ability to evoke strong emotions and sentimentality through her music.

“Before” continues to see NIKI shine revisiting her singer/songwriter roots through her genuine storytelling as seen on previous singles like “Split” released late last year.

In the accompanying music video, NIKI flies across the globe to the United States in an attempt to rekindle a relationship, but something feels amiss. The video is directed by Isaac Ravishankara and stars Indonesian-American actor Peter Adrian Sudarso opposite NIKI.

On the track, NIKI says “‘Before’ is the irresolute ending to my very first love story. I wrote it as a means to create the kind of closure I never had. I also feel itߣs ironically poetic to open this new chapter by telling you how it ends first. I’m so proud of it, and I can’t think of a better song to introduce the ultimate break-up record I’ve always fantasized of putting out but somehow haven’t until now.”

The release of “Before” comes fresh off the heels of NIKI’s unforgettable performance at Coachella in April, where she became the first Indonesian artist to ever perform at the festival, alongside Rich Brian. NIKI will follow up her Coachella appearance with a performance at 88rising’s 2022 Head in the Clouds Festival this August at Brookside at the Rose Bowl. NIKI previously performed at the 2021 Head in the Clouds Festival last November with a striking set that received acclaim from MTVFlaunt, and The AV Club who hailed her a “goddamn superstar.”

Watch her full performance at the festival HERE.

Most recently, 88rising and NIKI collaborated with Honda on a new docu-series that captured her journey to Coachella, storying her time leading up to her dazzling performance. 88rising is the first Asian music media partner to collaborate with Honda on their music program. The docu-series presented by Honda highlighted various firsts for NIKI from chronicling her first Coachella performance to watching her journey in her first car, a 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid, capturing this full circle moment all while celebrating her Indonesian heritage, as both episodes were released last month during AAPI Month. Watch episode 1 HERE and episode 2 HERE.

To date, NIKI has accumulated over 1.8 billion streams across all platforms. Her hit single “Every Summertime” from the soundtrack of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings recently went viral and currently has over 220 million streams and climbing. The track, written and produced by NIKI and longtime collaborator Jacob Ray is an exuberant love song with a throwback sound reminiscent of classic R&B and soul. Stream the track HERE.

The aforementioned “Split” comes from the upcoming Head In The Clouds 3 collaboration album, 88rising’s game-changing third installation of the world-building effort that brings together rising artists from East to West. A retro slowburn, complete with steel guitar and NIKI’s sweet rasp, “Split” sees the 23-year-old’s artistic force chronicling the ache of feeling split between two worlds and two homes. Like all her well-loved songs, “Split” leaves a mark

Listen to “Split” HERE.

ABOUT NIKI

With over 1.8 BILLION+ streams to date, 23-year-old NIKI has slammed the door on the conventions of pop stardomߞwriting, recording, and producing her music on her own. Born in Jakarta and based in Los Angeles, NIKI has captured the attention of audiences around the world, earning praise from Billboard “as one of the brightest rising stars.” Earning wide critical acclaim since her breakthrough “Zephyr”, and her debut album, “MOONCHILD”, NIKI has cultivated fans around the globe with her expressive voice, personal songwriting and genre-blurring artistry, becoming a vibrant symbol of and an advocate for a generation of Asian musical artists.

NIKI’s debut album “MOONCHILD” was released on September 10, 2020 and currently has over 172M streams to date. Complex called MOONCHILD “a full-length offering reflective of the Indonesian vocalist/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist growth and abilities.” i-D shared that NIKI’s storytelling on MOONCHILD was “something we can only aspire to do.” To date, NIKI has garnered over 1.8 B+ streams and received praises from outlets like Harper’s BAZAAR, Forbes, Teen Vogue, Hypebae, and more.

Most recently, NIKI’s song “Every Summertime,” which appeared on the Marvel, Shang-Chi Legend of The Legend Ten Rings Official Soundtrack landed on Spotify’s Today’s Top Hits and Pop Rising amongst others and has been streamed over 200 million times worldwide. She was also the first Indonesian artist, alongside Rich Brian to ever take the stage at Coachella. She is also currently the face of Guess Originals Spring campaign.

With her Indonesian heritage essential to her story, she feels “a social responsibility representing Asian artists, especially as a role model for girls.” For aspiring Asian and Asian American talents aiming to break cultural norms and overcome music industry under-representation, NIKI proves that the highest dreams are indeed within reach.

The raucous new single “Nos Comemos,” a throwback reggaeton stomp penned by Tiago PZK and Ozuna, was recorded in Miami and Buenos Aires and produced by studio wizard Big One. The song’s eye-catching video directed by the fast-rising newcomer Martin Seipel was shot in April at a gas station and on the streets of Miami. That night, I went to a BRESH party and there we met Ozuna. We hit it off, exchanged phone numbers, and I shared the song with him via WhatsApp. That same day in the afternoon, he already had his verse recorded. I think the result was very good and hopefully people will like it.”

Tiago PZK’s career continues to grow by leaps and bounds, demonstrating his formidable talent and astonishing versatility when it comes to composing and performing his songs. Armed with resounding success in Argentina and now, globally, as well, Tiago makes debut duet with an international artist, the first of many.

In addition, he performed at Vibra Urbana in Las Vegas and had impressive performances in Mexico in May.

Currently, the rising superstar coming out of Argentina is putting the finishing touches on his first studio album coming soon under Warner Music Latina/ Grand Move Records.

Get your glimpse at the opening battles in the all-new A.X.E.: JUGDMENT DAY #1 trailer, featuring never-before-seen artwork.

“Honestly, for me, speaking as a reader as much as a writer, there’s nothing worse than an event that comes out of nowhere,” Gillen said in a recent interview with Popverse. “It had to come from the books. So yeah, I was looking at the Avengers, what Jason [Aaron] has built in the mythology there. I was looking at the X-Books, the secrets of Krakoa coming to light, and I was looking at what I was doing in Eternals, which dances with both of them, the various tensions in Eternal society there. And now, that’s stuff going to blow up. It’s just that kind of ‘Oh, look, these are three logical strains that are intersecting, let’s then bring them forth and see what happens with them.'”

Check out the new trailer now and be there for the latest Marvel Comics epic when A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY #1 arrives on July 20. And don’t miss the exciting buildup in a special prelude issue, A.X.E.: EVE OF JUDGMENT #1, as well as current issues of AVENGERS, ETERNALS, IMMORTAL X-MEN, and X-MEN.

Following a celebratory “Drag Your Kids to Pride” event held in Dallas, Texas, a Republican legislator has made threats to propose a bill that would forbid children from attending drag shows in the state. Drag superstar Alyssa Edwards, originally from Texas, has publicly communicated her discomfort with Republican officials’ responses to the shooting versus the Pride event. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland

Toyota is taking the RAV4 Hybrid to a whole new level of adventure with the new 2023 Woodland Edition. Equipped with everything needed for an outdoor excursion, the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is the first hybrid off-road special edition SUV for the brand.

The arrival of the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition to dealerships this fall also demonstrates our support for a charitable endeavor. To support local communities and make our public lands more accessible and enjoyable for Americans of all abilities, Toyota is proud to contribute $500,000 to the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) toward improving accessibility in these beloved spaces. Through local outreach projects, education programs and accessibility improvement efforts, Toyota and NEEF will make an impact that goes beyond the pavement.

TRD-Tuned & Ready

The new RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition, available in Midnight Black Metallic, Cavalry Blue and Ice Cap exterior colors, offers a distinctively rugged exterior and premium interior styling with the versatile features one would expect from the fifth-generation RAV4. Featuring a TRD-tuned suspension, the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is engineered to enhance body control and small-bump isolation to help smooth out trails and rough city streets. Coil springs are tuned for an off-road focus and bump stops maximize compression-direction wheel travel. The twin-tube shocks feature internal rebound springs for optimal roll control and unique valving to help body control over large bumps and dips.

Designed with a focus on versatility and efficiency, the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition also comes standard with Falken WILDPEAK AT tires for optimal off-roading, raised black roof rack cross bars to pack an array of supplies for a weekend camping trip and a 120V inverter to power-up an array of compatible household items for a short day trip or an overnight camping excursion. Other mentionable standard features include:

  • Flow-formed Bronze-colored wheels for greater strength
  • Custom all-weather floor and cargo mats
  • Black badging
  • Black mud guards
  • Dual black chrome-tipped exhaust

And with the roominess to fit people, pets, and recreational gear – the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition also comes standard with features like LED projector-beam headlights and integrated fog lights. Handy storage abounds in the RAV4 Hybrid, including the console’s large volume, side-by-side cup holders and an open tray capable of holding small items. In addition, an in-dash tray within easy reach of the front passenger can hold electronics, sunglasses and other travel must-haves. Rear seat passengers will appreciate the spacious cabin. The rear cargo area features a reversible cargo floor insert as well as side nets for storing small items. The 60/40 folding rear seats easily expand the rear cargo area.

Hybrid+AWD for RAV4 Woodland Edition

Engineered to tackle urban, suburban and outdoor adventures, the fifth-generation RAV4 is built on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) platform. With a boldly chiseled design inspired by Toyota’s tough trucks, this latest RAV4 amplifies the desirable crossover traits that made the first RAV4 an instant success a quarter-century ago. Depending on model grade and options, the current RAV4 can be whatever the customer needs it to be, from the exceptionally well equipped LE model to a technology tour de force plug-in hybrid, with various levels of luxury and adventure in between.

In any RAV4 Hybrid, the Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) works in sync with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine to make the hybrid models performance and efficiency leaders of the RAV4 family. It is truly the no-compromise compact SUV.

In the hybrid models, a Continuously-Variable Transmission (CVT) is exclusively paired with an Electronic All-Wheel Drive system (AWD), making it possible to operate at all vehicle speeds. An improvement from previous generation, the rear axle motor operates proactively anytime rear torque would be beneficial to keep the vehicle on the driver’s intended line, or when conditions get slippery. The AWD system uses an independent electric motor at the rear wheels, rather than a torque-distribution system in the transmission and additional driveshaft to the rear.

The new Toyota Audio Multimedia allows for dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity, with support for standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. Standard Safety

The 2023 RAV4 comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, Toyota’s suite of active safety systems. It includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection that features enhancements over the previous generation, including the ability to detect an oncoming vehicle or a pedestrian at intersections when making a turn. The Pre-Collision System is designed to detect vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists and provide audio/visual alerts and automatic braking in certain conditions. Emergency steering assist is an additional function designed to detect pedestrians and stabilize the driver’s emergency evasive steering maneuvers and help prevent lane departure.

TSS2.5 on RAV4 also includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). Lane Departure Alert is designed to notify the driver via audible alert if it senses the vehicle is leaving the lane without engaging a turn signal. When DRCC is set and engaged, Lane Tracing Assist is designed to assist the driver by providing a slight steering force to help center the vehicle in its lane using visible lane markers or a preceding vehicle.

Automatic High Beams are designed to detect preceding or oncoming vehicles and automatically switch between high beam and low beam headlights. Road Sign Assist is designed to recognize certain road sign information using a forward-facing camera and display them on the multi-information display (MID).

In addition to the TSS 2.5 system, other standard safety features include Blind Spot Monitor, which is designed to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes. Rear Cross Traffic Alert can offer added peace of mind by helping to detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out and alerting you with a visual and audible warning. Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking is designed to provide warning and if needed, implement brake control when there’s a possibility of a collision with a stationary object or an approaching vehicle while parking. In addition to TSS 2.5, the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is equipped with Toyota’s Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Smart Stop Technology (SST). Available safety technologies include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Bird’s Eye View Camera, Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) and Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB) system.

Toyota’s Rear Seat Reminder also comes standard on RAV4. The feature can note whether a rear door was opened within 10 minutes of the vehicle being turned on, or at any time after the vehicle has been turned on, with a reminder message in the instrument cluster after the engine is turned off, accompanied by multitone chimes.

Toyota Limited Warranty

Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and against perforation from corrosion for 60 months with no mileage limitation. Hybrid-related components that require repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first from original date of first use when sold as new. The HV battery is covered for 10 years/150,000 miles, whichever comes first, and is transferrable across ownership.

RAV4 also comes with ToyotaCare, a complimentary plan covering normal factory-scheduled maintenance, for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and 2 years of Roadside Assistance, regardless of mileage.
