Land Rover × Bond Inspired Defender V8

LAND ROVER RELEASE BOND NO TIME TO DIE INSPIRED DEFENDER V8

The new edition features design inspired by the Defenders which appear in No Time To Die in celebration of the 25th James Bond film. Watch a video here.

Land Rover SV Bespoke has created a new Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition to celebrate the 25th James Bond film, No Time To Die, ahead of its world premiere later this month.

Available to order as a Defender 110 or 90 and inspired by the specification of the Defenders that appear in No Time To Die, the stealthy Defender V8 Bond Edition features an Extended Black Pack with 22-inch Luna Gloss Black alloy wheels, signature Xenon Blue front brake calipers and a Defender 007 rear badge.

The bespoke touches extend to the practical interior, with illuminated Defender 007 treadplates and a specially developed touchscreen start-up animation for the intuitive Pivi Pro infotainment system that honours Land Rover’s long partnership with the James Bond franchise. At night, customers will also spot unique ‘007’ puddle lamp graphics.

Exclusively available to just 300 buyers around the world, the Defender V8 Bond Edition’s interior features laser etching detailing that it is one of 300 and the SV Bespoke logo. Each vehicle is commissioned by the vehicle personalisation experts at SV Bespoke in the UK.

Finbar McFall, Land Rover Brand Director, said: The Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition is an exclusive take on the most powerful production Defender ever made, inspired by vehicles on screen in No Time To Die. It represents a meeting of two great British brands and is a unique celebration of Land Rover’s 38-year association with James Bond.

Defenders are at the heart of the action in No Time To Die alongside two Range Rover Sport SVRs. A Range Rover Classic and Land Rover Series III are also in the film, which will be released in cinemas around the world from September 30 2021.

Based on the recently launched Defender V8, the Bond Edition is powered by a 5.0- litre supercharged petrol engine, which produces 525PS, 625Nm of torque and drives through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Defender V8 90 accelerates from 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds) with a top speed of 149mph (240km/h).

It delivers new levels of performance and driver engagement by combining the V8 with expertly developed suspension and transmission tuning to create the fastest and most dynamically rewarding Defender yet.

With unique suspension and transmission tuning, including bespoke spring and damper rates and a new Electronic Active Rear Differential, Defender V8 delivers more agile and engaging handling with heightened body control – all accompanied by a characteristic V8 supercharged soundtrack.

No Time To Die is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his fifth and final film as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007. The film will be released in cinemas from September 30 2021 in the UK through Universal Pictures International and in the US on October 8 2021, from Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) via their United Artists Releasing banner.

The record dropped earlier this summer along with an accompanying lyric video.

Re-visit New Blood by Gryffin and Boy Matthews on all digital retailers HERE.

’New Blood’ is one of my favorite records I’ve ever done, says Gryffin on the creation of the track. It is about a special someone coming into your life and allowing you to rediscover your inner self and happiness in life again. Boy Matthews is one of the most talented vocalists I’ve ever worked with. His soul and energy gave this song the euphoric vibes I was looking for. I’m so proud of this record and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

2021 has shaped up to be a banner year for Gryffin. In just a month, his most recent single Best Is Yet To Come with Kyle Reynolds has amassed over 14 million total streams and counting between the Original, Max Styler Remix, Cheyenne Giles Remix, and Acoustic version. Dancing Astronaut praised the latter as touching and went on to claim, Gryffin and Kyle Reynolds smoothly play off each other in the acoustic’s visual and place another layer of charged emotion onto an already faultless merger.

Currently in the middle of his Las Vegas residency at The Wynn’s Encore Beach Club and XS Nightclub, Gryffin is also performing at major markets across the U.S. See full show dates below, and purchase tickets HERE

ABOUT GRYFFIN

Born Dan Griffith, Gryffin got his start in music as a classically trained pianist and guitarist and also played in several bands. After receiving an electrical engineering degree from the University of Southern California, he pursued a path in music production, drawing equally from his carefully honed musicality and edgy ingenuity. Gryffin made his breakthrough in 2016 with two singles showcasing his melodic take on dance music: Heading Home ft. Josef Salvat (which shot to #1 on Spotify’s US and Global Viral charts) and the Bipolar Sunshine collaboration Whole Heart. In addition, his 2017 smash single Feel Good — with Illenium and featuring Daya— peaked at #18 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts. Gryffin’s major triumphs also include Tie Me Down ft. Elley Duhé (which hit #2 on the Spotify US Viral Chart and #9 on the Global Viral Chart), Remember ft. Zohara (which garnered 6.5 million streams in its first few weeks and earned support from Tiesto, who featured the track on an Instagram story), and All You Need to Know with SLANDER ft. Calle Lehmann (a gold-certified smash that’s now surpassed 100 million streams). Arriving in October 2019, Gryffin’s debut album Gravity quickly climbed to #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Sting – If It’s Love

STING ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM THE BRIDGE

DUE NOVEMBER 19

PRE-ORDER HERE

FIRST SINGLE IF IT’S LOVE AVAILABLE NOW

17-time Grammy Award winning musician Sting has announced The Bridge, a brand-new album to be released on November 19 via A&M/Interscope/Cherrytree Records and available for pre-order here (full track listing included below). The first single, If It’s Love is out now.

The Bridge showcases Sting’s prolific and diverse songwriting prowess, with this new set of songs representing styles and genres explored throughout his unrivaled career. The lead track If It’s Love premiered today on BBC Radio 2 and is available now on all digital platforms. The upbeat, breezy and infectious pop tune exhibits his undeniable gift for melody. In his signature voice, and taking a different approach to a straight-forward love song, Sting likens contemplating his romantic feelings to calling the doctor about his symptoms.

I’m certainly not the first songwriter to equate falling in or out of love with an incurable sickness, nor will I be the last, says Sting. ’If It’s Love’ is my addition to that canon where the tropes of metaphorical symptoms, diagnosis, and downright incapacity are all familiar enough to make each of us smile ruefully.

The Bridge was written in a year of global pandemic and finds Sting ruminating on personal loss, separation, disruption, lockdown, and extraordinary social and political turmoil.

Exploring a multitude of concepts and themes, a bridge represents the enduring and ever-evolving link between ideas, cultures, continents, and even the banks of a river. It’s also a route into the past, and so it was that Sting found himself considering the music and the places that have formed his own foundations, and that indeed are embedded in his very DNA.

He explains, These songs are between one place and another, between one state of mind and another, between life and death, between relationships. Between pandemics, and between eras – politically, socially and psychologically, all of us are stuck in the middle of something. We need a bridge.

Representing various stages and styles from throughout his career and drawing inspiration from genres including rock n’ roll, jazz, classical music and folk, the eclectic album features Sting’s quintessential sound on pop-rock tracks such as the album’s opening rock salvo Rushing Water and new indie-pop sounding If It’s Love, to the smoldering electronic ballad Loving You and the romantic For Her Love which evokes Sting’s trademark Fields of Gold period.  The Book of Numbers, Harmony Road and The Bells of St. Thomas showcase Sting’s collaboration with his long-time guitarist/right and left-hand, Dominic Miller.

Written and recorded over the last year in lockdown, a coterie of trusted musicians beamed into Sting’s studio remotely including Dominic Miller (guitar), Josh Freese (drums), Branford Marsalis (saxophone), Manu Katché (drums), Martin Kierszenbaum (keyboards), Fred Renaudin (synthesizer) and backing vocalists Melissa Musique, Gene Noble, Jo Lawry and Laila Biali, The Bridge’s influences are vast; from grappling with the murky origins of the folk ballads in Cecil Sharp’s Collection of English Folk Songs, to J. Robert Oppenheimer, from the Roman history of Northumbria to Saint Thomas.

All songs on The Bridge are produced by Sting and Martin Kierszenbaum, except Loving You produced by Sting, Maya Jane Coles and Martin Kierszenbaum. The album was mixed by Robert Orton, engineered by Donal Hodgson and Tony Lake, and mastered by Gene Grimaldi at Oasis Mastering.

The Bridge will be released in multiple formats, including standard and deluxe CD and vinyl, Japanese Exclusive standard and deluxe albums, all digital streaming and download platforms, as well as a music cassette. The deluxe CD and vinyl will include bonus tracks Waters of Tyne, Captain Bateman’s Basement, and (Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay. Both Japanese exclusives will be on SHM-CD including the additional bonus track I Guess the Lord Must Be in New York City, while the deluxe version will also include a DVD with an interview and track by track discussion with Sting, as well as music videos for If It’s Love and Rushing Water.

Later this month, Sting will return to the live arena with a performance in Sicily on September 27  followed by concerts at the historic Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens on September 30 and October 1. Soon after, he will launch My Songs: The Las Vegas Residency beginning October 29 at the The Colosseum at Caesars Palace featuring a compendium of his most beloved songs with dynamic, visual references to some of his most iconic videos and inspirations.

Sting is managed by the Cherrytree Music Company.

Home in this World: Woody Guthrie’s Dust Bowl Ballads

LEE ANN WOMACK DEBUTS DUSTY OLD DUST WOODY GUTHRIE COVER TO APPEAR ON HOME IN THIS WORLD: WOODY GUTHRIE’S DUST BOWL BALLADS

REIMAGINED ALBUM ARRIVES SEPTEMBER 10TH VIA ELEKTRA RECORDS

CURATED BY GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING MUSIC SUPERVISOR AND PRODUCER RANDALL POSTER

ALBUM FEATURES CROSS-GENRE COLLECTIVE OF ARTISTS INCLUDING

GRAMMY Award-WINNERS LEE ANN WOMACK AND JOHN PAUL WHITE, WAXAHATCHEE, CHRIS THILE, COLTER WALL AND MORE

GRAMMY Award-winning vocal powerhouse Lee Ann Womack has debuted a cover of Woody Guthrie’s Dusty Old Dust alongside an official lyric video. The track arrives ahead of Home In This Word: Woody Guthrie’s Dust Bowl Ballads, a reimagined version of American folk icon Woody Guthrie’s groundbreaking 1940 album, Dust Bowl Ballads. Curated by GRAMMY Award-winning music supervisor and producer Randall Poster [Skyfall, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Boardwalk Empire], Home In This World arrives Friday, September 10th via Elektra Records and is available for preorder now with the endorsement of the Woody Guthrie Estate.

Womack commented on the release, ‘Dusty Old Dust’ is such a great example of how a magical songwriter’s timeless lyrics can bring life to conditions that are hard for us to imagine and keep history alive.

The album was announced earlier this summer via Rolling Stone and heralded by The Secret Sisters’ rendition of Dust Cain’t Kill Me, followed by Waxahatchee’s take on Talking Dust Bowl Blues. Cited as one of the first concept albums ever, Dust Bowl Ballads’ 14 tracks ring true nearly four generations later as America faces a different kind of depression and looming clduimate crisis. Now celebrating its 81st anniversary, the record has been reimagined for a new era by a cross-genre collective of artists. Poster has assembled an all-star cast of everyone from GRAMMY Award winners Lee Ann Womack and John Paul White to grunge poet laureate Mark Lanegan and rising country and Americana star Lillie Mae, acclaimed husband-and-wife folk duo Shovels & Rope, virtuosic mandolinist Chris Thile, celebrated Canadian cowboy Colter Wall, bluegrass phenomenon Watkins Family Hour, and indie stalwarts Waxahatchee.

Sharing aligned missions, Home In This World will be released in partnership with Kiss The Ground, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to awaken people to the possibilities of regenerative agriculture and inspire participation in this movement through media, communications, education, immersive programming, and advocacy.

ABOUT DUST BOWL BALLADS:

Eighty-one years ago, Woody Guthrie spoke to the pain and hopelessness of the American farmer living in a depressed America by telling their stories in words meant for them. His groundbreaking 1940 album, Dust Bowl Ballads, wove together autobiographical and fictional vignettes of the Dust Bowl during The Great Depression. On his first commercial recording and most definitive, he spoke from the heart about his own experiences, stepped into the shoes of Tom Joad from John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, and traced the journey of thousands out of the Midwest and Southern Great Plains to California under the promise of a better life.

ABOUT KISS THE GROUND:

Kiss the Ground is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on a mission to awaken people to the possibilities of regeneration and inspire participation in this movement through media, communications, education, workshops, immersive programming, and advocacy. Since 2013, Kiss the Ground has created societal awareness around the extraordinary potential of healthy soil, educating and activating millions around regeneration.

Hidden Threads Art Exhibition

Hidden Threads

A multidisciplinary group exhibition explores the spontaneous side of memory.

HOT•BED is pleased to present Hidden Threads, a group exhibition curated by Bryan Hoffman that explores the subconscious memories that inform our identities. As we navigate daily life, sensory stimuli may provoke unrelated recollections or emotions from the past. The work in the show is inspired by these involuntary memories, also known as mind-pops, which form the hidden threads that weave together our everyday experiences. Inspired by this idea, artists Katee Boyle, Carlos Alejandro, Alex Griffin, and János Korodi are exhibiting works spanning painting, photography, videography/projection mapping, sculpture, installations, and works on paper. In addition to their individual pieces, Boyle, Alejandro, and Nelson have also contributed new collaborative projects created especially for this exhibition. This is the first exhibition that will utilize the entirety of HOT•BED’s space, including its main gallery and MICRO•GALLERY. Hidden Threads will flow through the gallery, intensifying as it goes, while acting as a subconscious space that visitors are invited to explore. Staff will intentionally provide little direction, as to ensure total autonomy over how deeply visitors would like to dive into the recesses of the space and mind. Hidden Threads will be on view from September 11 – November 12, 2021 with an opening event on September 11, 2021 at 6-10 pm EST. To RSVP, please visit the site.

Mind-pops occur without effort or exerted influence, often during habitual activity. Everyone experiences these moments — when you taste, see, hear, smell, or touch something and suddenly a rush of memory surfaces. These memories can be powerful catalysts for creative expression or harmful triggers for negative emotions. What it shows us is that our subconscious often knows the meaning of an experience, even if consciously we don’t, Professor Lia Kvavilashvili of the University of Hertfordshire told Scientific American. Inspired by this phenomenon, each artist in Hidden Threads references or explores the idea through their own distinct style and conceptual lens.

Korodi considers memory by portraying the visceral experience of moving through space and time. His never-before-exhibited Transfer series (2020) continues his work with street views in a new medium; the artist takes images from Google Maps and prints them onto raw plywood sheets using a dye sublimation process. The romantic yet ghostly works retain the patterns and textures of the wood, with the street view images superimposed on top of them, mirroring the way memory is layered over the present. Korodi will also be showing works from his Motion and Bridges in Motion series.

Boyle gives us an intimate window into the place where past, present, and future are always meeting, fighting, coexisting, and collaborating. Her work resonates with a tug of memoir, the desire to move forward but always with a strong gravitational pull of the past. For Hidden Threads, Boyle has teamed up with Alejandro and Matt Nelson of N.E. Thing Productions on a series of flip book video projections, which expand upon the narrative of Boyle’s paintings and sculptures. The projections — shot by Alejandro and featuring Boyle — will be exhibited mapped over Boyle’s installation pieces, on top of horticulture displays designed by curator Bryan Hoffman, and against the walls of the gallery, creating an immersive experience that echoes the disarray of the subconscious.

In addition to the projections, Alejandro also contributes individual works to the show, including photographs and enlarged negatives hung in a line to mimic the setup of a dark room. By utilizing the traditional medium of analog photography — including a variety of uniquely complex techniques for developing and printing his images — Alejandro reflects on memory, artistic craft, and what is lost or preserved in the passage of time.

Griffin paints landscapes and architectural spaces in a raw, fuzzy style that mimics the haze of the past, but retains its emotional resonance. Though the pieces are often somber and visually sparse, Griffin gives structure to memory, making it visible in new ways. Rather than striving for photorealistic perfection, the artist captures what it feels like to almost grasp a memory before it slips back into the subconscious layers of the mind. (Griffin and Boyle have previously shown work together at Scarlett Thicket Farms in Chester County.)

Altogether, the exhibition presents a rich and layered depiction of memory and its elusive mind pops. In probing the possibilities of this complex, confounding, and distinctly human experience, Hidden Threads asks us to consider what we know we know, as well as that which we can only hope to catch a glimpse of someday. For more information and additional updates on Hidden Threads, please visit the site.

About Carlos Alejandro

Born in New York City. Grew up in public housing projects. Classically trained musician. 35 years of successful editorial, commercial, and fine art photography. Advocate for creativity, children, education and the environment.

About Katee Boyle

Katee Boyle, Scarlett Forge; Kennett Square, Pennsylvania explores a wide range of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, words, sound, and installation to create the artifacts and narratives attributed to her work. A conceptually-driven expressionist, her stories stem from personal tributes to the human experience and unyielding faith in the power of emotional responses. Boyle’s work responds to the question: what does it mean to feel human, unapologetically from the female perspective. The manifestation of Her documents offers a representation of memory energized by a sense of momentum. Her work shares a strong temporal dimension – a place where the past, present, and future are always meeting, often colliding or in conflict. Boyle’s work resonates with a tug of memoir, the desire to move forward but always with a strong gravitational pull of the past. Speaking in a viscerally raw language of unbridled honesty on female invisibility and social conditioning, Boyle presents the viewer with a deconstructed female perspective on emotional life.

Boyle’s Artifacts reflect on cultural and gender-nuanced elements of life: birth, death, mother, family, discord, trust, and healing. Her work explores the mapping of connections and growth between that which is tangible and that which is most often unmentionable and fleeting. Her narratives embody the external social messages that speak to personal and private but simultaneously mingle and resonate with her audience as emotionally responsive, collectively shared experiences.

Boyle’s work is in private collections internationally. She has exhibited at SOFA Chicago, is a Winterthur Museum Maker- Creator Fellow, and a United States Artist Nominee.

About Alex Griffin

Alex Griffin creates landscapes that move among the past, present and future. Taking on multiple roles of painter, historian and storyteller, he reconstructs realities by inviting the viewer into imaginary scenes – a field, an urban landscape, a quiet walkway. His paintings have a cinematic effect and are filled with dreamlike imagery and structure. He builds up the surfaces of his canvases with layers of narratives and surrealist images. Griffin received a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008. He lives and works in Philadelphia, PA.

About János Korodi

János Korodi was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1971. He is a visual artist, primarily a painter, and deals with different forms of printmaking, murals, and occasionally participates in interdisciplinary collaborations. By the time he received his doctoral degree in visual arts from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, at the age of 42 in 2013, he was already in the process of relocation to the US. In the last 25 years, his works have been shown in various countries in Europe and the US. He has spent a six-months artists residency at TerraCycle Inc. in Trenton, NJ in 2015, awarded the 2010 Eötvös Scholarship of the Hungarian State–a studio residency in New York City, a 2008 scholarship at the Hungarian Academy in Rome, the 1999–2001 Derkovits Fellowship for emerging artist in Hungary, and the 1996 scholarship from the Tóth Menyhért Foundation of Kecskemét, Hungary. Korodi’s works are in permanent public and private collections internationally. He has lived and worked in Philadelphia since 2015. Through the 2000’s, Korodi has dealt with architecture and urbanism, and its visual and theoretical aspects for his Genius Loci – Spirit of the Place paintings and program, which concluded in his thesis. Later, he found his new self in “motion”, and the phenomenon of transition between places. This move colluded and bound together with the human exodus of the recent decade, as well as with his own immigration, and it reflects on the Spirit of the Place problem, too.

Lecrae × Experian – Protect the Bag

GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST, LECRAE, TO HOST NEW PERSONAL FINANCE WEB SERIES PROTECT THE BAG, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EXPERIAN NORTH AMERICA.

The Protect The Bag Web-Series Talks About the Basics Of Financial Health! Go from FOMO to legacy building.

Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Lecrae, has partnered with Experian North America, a leading information services company, to present Protect The Bag, a six-part web series that provides viewers with a blueprint for building a financial legacy.

The video series produced by Lecrae’s production company, 3 Strand Films, premieres Fall 2021, and guides audiences through the ins and outs of financial health. Through short sketches and the help of some high-profile special guests, Lecrae will break down the basics of financial literacy and credit education to help viewers understand how to balance their financial needs of today, with those of tomorrow.

I am on a mission to spread the word on financial education because I wasn’t educated about money and didn’t know about budgeting, Lecrae explained. I didn’t know to think about the cost of things or what to pay off first because I just didn’t have a strategy. He believes that through his unique vision, partnered with Experian’s expertise, the message of financial health and inclusion will be embraced.

Each episode will cover a key point of building a financial legacy starting with understanding money and utilizing checking and savings accounts. Other topics include budgeting, saving, protecting one’s identity, debt, and investing.

This partnership is part of Experian’s United for Financial Health, a global financial recovery initiative that helps educate and empower vulnerable consumers around their finances and minority business owners around financial health. Under this program, Lecrae previously supported the Home Preservation Grant, an Experian partnership with the NAACP to provide mortgage relief to homeowners negatively impacted by COVID-19.

Credit education isn’t always taught in homes and schools. In fact, a recent Experian survey shows almost one in three (30%) of young adults wish they learned how to build credit or improve their credit scores before entering adulthood, said Wil Lewis, chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer for Experian. We’re excited to partner with Lecrae for ‘Protect The Bag’ and see this as an innovative way to reach young consumers so they can start their financial health journey on the right foot.

Protect The Bag will premiere on Lecrae’s YouTube channel and social media platforms. Learn more at their site or follow Lecrae via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

We got to speak with the founders and one of their Action Leaders Naheim Banks below.

We were informed that you grew up with family members in the prison system which drove you towards a life dedicated to criminal justice reform. Can you talk more about how your activism and advocacy have expanded since you began this journey?

Naheim Banks: As you said, I have had family members involved in the system, and one of the things I realized while experiencing that was that our system is not a criminal justice system, but rather a criminal legal system because justice is what so many people don’t experience or get while going through our legal process. When I first began this journey on criminal legal reform, I started something in my school district called Teen Court, which is a youth diversionary program for minors that commit misdemeanors and other infractions. Part of what drew me to this work was because I could see myself in many of these kids, many of them in high school and middle school, who have parents working long hours, parents who are incarcerated and having to grow up way too fast. These kids happened to lose the moral luck lottery and have made mistakes, but that doesn’t mean we should let those mistakes define who they are for the rest of their lives. People are more than the worst thing they’ve ever done. I was encouraged to take my activism further when I saw voters reject Affirmative Action in my home state of California, reject cash bail, and reject a piece of legislation allowing for California to decertify police officers for misconduct despite being only one of four states to not have the authority to decertify law enforcement officers. Upon witnessing this, I decided to run to be an Assembly District Delegate to the California Democratic Party with the slate ‘Organizing for Progress’. Since being elected, I have made it a point to continue pushing the party to endorse legislation that supports Black lives and allows us to reimagine our criminal legal system. One of the ways I’m also doing that is by educating the public on legal reform through Révolutionnaire and our Action Guides and Petitions.

How has attending Howard University, an HBCU, impacted your views on activism and criminal justice reform?

Naheim: Attending Howard has really encouraged me to put myself out there and take risks. Before attending Howard, I always tried to fit into what Nikole Hannah-Jones calls, white spaces that are not made for people that look like me, and impact change within the confines of what is deemed ‘acceptable’. Not anymore. I no longer sugarcoat or tone down the issues that I am passionate about. Part of this huge passion that I have for criminal legal reform and my increased activism on the issue stems from the confidence Howard has instilled in me. Being a criminology major, I have had professors like Dr. Bahiyyah M. Muhammad that have so much passion for prison reform that their passion often rolls over onto you. At Howard, we have people that have non-profits like Just Us that mentors youth involved in the juvenile legal system; we have people that have started environmental justice organizations, gun reform organizations, and so many others that it inspires you to truly get out there in your community and make lasting change.

How did you find Révolutionnaire, and what drew you to become a part of the organization?

Naheim: I had followed Révolutionnaire since its original creation as a way to revolutionize dance apparel and empower all to celebrate the skin they’re in because I had never truly seen dance apparel that actually matched Black skin. I had been an outspoken advocate for criminal legal reform and when Nia Faith, one of the founders of the organization, reached out to me, I just couldn’t say no. Seeing the impact Nia and Justice already had on their homes, their schools, and their communities is what really inspired and drew me to become a part of the organization. I distinctly remember hearing Justice’s Valedictorian speech and one of the things she said that really fueled my love for Révolutionnaire, was that ‘Dreams Fuel Revolutions’. Everyone on this team has a dream for a better world and I just love having the opportunity to be a part of it.

What exactly are your responsibilities as an Action Leader with Révolutionnaire?

Naheim: As an Action Leader, I write about specific issues related to criminal legal reform such as the death penalty, three-strikes laws, and the War on Drugs. I give information to those that want to get more involved in legal reform initiatives and facilitate knowledge sharing and member engagement through writing petitions and 101 Action Guides on the issues that plague our society’s broken legal system.

Your website mentions that Révolutionnaire began with the idea to ‘revolutionize nude apparel’. Can you talk more about how this mission came about and what work has been done thus far?

Nia Faith Betty: I started Révolutionnaire as a dancewear line catering to dancers of color after growing up as a ballerina and never having access to apparel that matched my skin tone. I was tired of constantly feeling othered and dreamed of a more inclusive dance world. Today, the Révolutionnaire Shop has a collection of apparel and accessories for dancers, athletes, and everyone to celebrate the skin they’re in.

Justice Faith Betty: I was inspired by Nia’s journey and dream of revolutionizing the dance world and asked what it would look like if more young people with a dream of improving their communities had access to the network, tools, and information necessary to scale their impact across causes. And that question laid the foundation for Révolutionnaire – the social network for changemakers.

We’ve heard about the five key causes on which Révolutionnaire is centered. Can you tell us more about what work is being done by Révolutionnaire to specifically target these issues?

Nia: We’ve started off with five pillar causes (i.e., racial equity, environmentalism, criminal justice reform, housing + food security, gun reform) with more to come. Change starts with staying informed, so we’ve made information about each of these issues accessible to our audience by breaking down topics into 101 guides. Action items are embedded at the end of each 101 guide so members can move from learning about a problem in society to taking action – whether it’s through contacting their representative, signing a petition, finding volunteer opportunities, making a donation, or participating in another mode of engagement – all from within our platform. We also have action guides across our cause hubs for members to launch their own projects in their communities.

As Révolutionnaire continues to grow, it has been really exciting to see and hear about members getting their ideas off the ground and finding a network of supporters to ideate with.

Justice: We’re committed to making this work more sustainable through leveraging the power of technology to build community among like-minded young people. We recently launched group offerings and have spoken to so many youth-focused organizations who are excited to connect with other orgs doing fantastic work, feel a little less lonely on their respective journeys and scale their collective impact. As a further commitment to sustainability, we will be launching our Recharge library to offer our members content focused on mindfulness and self-care.

How can young people, like Naheim, get involved with Révolutionnaire?

Justice: Whether you are someone who has wanted to make a difference, but perhaps doesn’t know where to start or have been doing this work for a long time, but are looking for a community and resources all in one place to take your impact to the next level – join Révolutionnaire. If, like Naheim, you are excited about contributing your voice on issues that matter to you and have ideas for how young people can take action, we welcome contributions from community members directly on Révolutionnaire through blog posts, lounge conversations, action item submissions and petitions!

Have you experienced any pushback as young women trying to influence such radical change? If so, how do you combat that?

Nia: There are oftentimes unspoken rules and gatekeeping measures that make getting involved in activism daunting and intimidating for young people. We have revolutionized and streamlined how people get involved in changemaking, service, and activism. With anything that is new or different, there are always situations where people don’t agree with it or don’t want to evolve the current ways of taking action to adapt to the changing times. At the end of the day, we always focus on the net good. If the end result is positive change and more young people getting involved with making the world a better place, then we are on the right path.
