KUR – SEASONS

Hailed as “the soul of Philly,” storied rapper Kur releases his next single and video, “Seasons,” via Meek Mill‘s DreamChasers and Roc Nation/Republic Records. Listen to “Seasons” HERE.

Unloading an unbreakable cadence of rapid-fire bars, Kur uses his lyrics as an opportunity to peel back the layers of the different seasons he’s endured in life. Staying true to himself, his confessional lyrics start with detailing his humble beginnings and then catch up to his present-day luxuries. The vivid wordplay jumps through the screen of the music video directed by Terrius Mykel with their grimy storytelling.

Drumming up palpable buzz, this release follows Kur’s bundle of songs entitled The Hold Over, which included the single “For My Fam.” Watch the music video for “For My Fam”—HERE. Receiving critical acclaim, another standout was “Road To The Riches.” HotNewHipHop described him as a “talented lyricist, Essence highlighted it among “New Music This Week. The project also boasts previously released “Sheist,” “Let’s Talk,” and “Play It Cool.” About the bundle, Passion of the Weiss noted, “Kur has leveraged his natural ability to think as a buffer between the things that could be and the things that are.” Raydar Magazine further applauded Kur as “Philadelphia’s Beacon of Possibility In Hip-Hop.”

To kick off the summer, Kur delivered a hometown performance at the Roots Picnic on June 4th. About the performance, he told REVOLT, “performing at this event was a dream come true and represents a stepping stone for what’s to come in his career.”

As the story goes, Kur first cut his teeth by leaving the competition speechless during lunchtime ciphers at W.B. Saul High School. Projects such as the Straight From The Kur mixtape and Upside Down Cake EP (where he murdered the beat for Drake’s “Poundcake” in multiple ways) led to the most significant hometown endorsement possible…Meek Mill shared lyrics from “33 Shots” on Twitter as Kur went on to participate in the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards cipher with Sam Black, Ms. Jade, Dave East, and Young M.A. Around the same time, he joined forces with New York phenomenon Dave East for the EP, Born Broke, Die Rich. 2019 saw him approach critical mass. His project Shakur spawned the infectious “Crack” and powerful “Soul” [feat. Mozzy], eclipsing 10 million cumulative global streams. On its heels, “Spare Me” vaulted to #14 on the Apple Music Hip-Hop and Rap Chart and #20 on the All Genres Chart. This prompted Meek Mill to proclaim Kur as “the soul of Philly.” Signed to DreamChasers in partnership with Roc Nation and Republic, the 2021 LP It Shouldn’t Be Like This elevated his total streams past 77 million.

SAVANNAH CAVANAUGH – MISS COLORADO

Following a night of showcasing talent, interview skills, and social impact achievements, one outstanding woman was left speechless on stage during the Miss Colorado competition at the PACE Center in Parker. Savannah Cavanaugh, 25, representing her area as Miss Beaver Creek, was crowned Miss Colorado 2022 and awarded $10,000 in scholarship assistance for winning. As the state titleholder, Cavanaugh will have the chance to compete for the national title at the annual Miss America Competition in December at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Cavanaugh, who sang a rendition of “Yesterday” by The Beatles for the talent competition, is a graduate of both Vanderbilt University, where she received her Masters in Business Administration, and The University of Texas at Austin, where she received her BBA in Finance. Cavanaugh hopes to one day become the chief marketing officer of a consumer products company and a university professor.
Cavanaugh’s social impact initiative “Healthy Lungs, Healthy Life!” focuses on sharing the importance of lung health and the detrimental side effects of tobacco use. As the Colorado state titleholder, Cavanaugh will now travel across the state, spreading her message of “Healthy Lungs, Healthy Life!” with her partnership with the American Lung Association.
“Being crowned Miss Colorado 2022 is an incredible dream come true,” said Cavanaugh. “I am so grateful for the opportunity to compete alongside so many brilliant, talented women. I hope to live up to the legacy, serve as a positive role model for women of all ages and make the Miss America Organization proud. It’s truly an honor to represent the great state of Colorado. I look forward to making a significant impact through my social impact initiative throughout the state of Colorado during my reign.”
Cavanaugh began competing within the Miss America Organization at age 22. Cavanaugh is excited about the chance to win the national title of Miss America and is presented with Miss America’s registered trademarked crown and year-long service. The primary function of Miss America is to serve as an advocate and role model for young women while sharing her passion and life story, as well as the legacy of the Miss America Organization.
“We are so excited for the year ahead with Savannah,” said Mette Castor and Mark Hinson, the Miss Colorado Organization Executive Directors. “She was selected out of a very competitive field of outstanding young women. POLESTAR RINGS IN NASDAQ

Polestar, the Swedish electric car brand, has rung the famous bell at the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York City to celebrate its public listing. Polestar began trading officially under the ticker “PSNY” on 24 June 2022.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath was joined by members of the Polestar and Gores Guggenheim teams, gathering in New York City to mark the latest milestone in Polestar’s journey towards sustainable mobility.

“This is such a proud day, and ringing the bell at Nasdaq is a symbolic celebration. Today truly marks the beginning of the next chapter in the story of Polestar. We have a clear vision of what that story will be, and the listing gives us the platform to accelerate and push harder for a transition towards more sustainable mobility,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

The bellringing was amplified on Nasdaq’s digital billboard screens in Times Square, which flashed images of some of Polestar’s over 2,000 global employees and the company’s vision statement. PSNY-branded Polestar 2 cars were also on display in the famous city square.

Polestar offices and retail locations across its 25 active markets were connected and watched the event live, celebrating locally.

The public listing will help Polestar build its ambitious plans for growth in some of the most attractive global E.V. segments while driving forward its industry-leading sustainability goals, including an utterly climate-neutral car by 2030.

Polestar has significant momentum as it enters a period of rapid growth and builds a diversified product portfolio, launching three new premium electric cars, including two SUVs, by 2024. The first, Polestar 3, a full-size electric SUV, is expected to launch in October 2022 and will set a new standard in this high-margin, premium segment.

MENTAL HEALTH – DR. ALEX ALVARDO

Even though we have made great progress in bringing people into therapy during the pandemic, there is still a huge stigma about therapy – that it doesn’t work. In order to really change this perception, we must do more upfront work to make sure people are being matched correctly to qualified therapists and psychologists who can care for, and treat, that person’s individualized needs. To achieve this successfully requires more than a simple Internet search or app signup.

One of the biggest missteps someone can make when searching for a therapist is blindly accepting the most convenient option. This could come in the form of a quick Internet search (just because something pops up in the No. 1 position on Google does not mean it is the best option for you); or taking a referral from a friend or family member (just because a therapist is right for someone else, does not mean it is the best match for you). Additionally, skipping the therapist interview step, and rushing to the hiring step (or signing up on a mental health app), can make you feel committed or trapped with a therapist that was never the right match for you in the first place. It is true that the year 2020 will likely be known as one of the most stressful years in our time, and the first time that many Americans sought out a therapist. While this is a good thing and shows progress for improving mental health, we now face a lesser-talked about “second pandemic” of mental health issues – of which includes finding the right therapist – that could affect our future perception of mental health and our willingness to seek help.

Compounding this problem is the anxiety, financial stress, politics, substance abuse, isolation, job worries, relationship problems, health concerns and other issues that have intensified since the start of the pandemic, which has overwhelmed therapists with new patients, many of whom go on a waiting list or get referred out to less qualified resources. Mental health professionals are not immune from the stress of the pandemic either, often citing burnout and fatigue from heavy patient loads, while also struggling to handle their own stress at home.

All of these factors contribute to a more complicated and challenging mental health environment that requires increased navigation and guidance from the mental health industry to make sure that those seeking help are receiving evidence-based therapies from qualified professionals who have the bandwidth to invest in the client for the long run. To improve first-time encounters with therapy, I developed a free online matchmaking platform at Thriving Center of Psychology that vets and validates licensed professionals, then matches them to individuals seeking help, based on the person’s specific therapy needs and the professional’s area of expertise and therapy process.

To begin the process of finding the right therapist is simple. Start by filling out a 3-minute questionnaire that helps uncover the style of therapist that may be the best fit for your specific situation and preferred type. Questions cover everything from therapy approach to gender and ethnicity, including what specialty of a therapist are you seeking? Are you looking for a goal-oriented or reflective therapist? Do you want your therapist to have a holistic approach (including recommending yoga, meditation, and journaling)? and so on.

This filter then quickly matches individuals seeking help to a vetted database of qualified therapists who are licensed to work in the state in which the person lives. I developed this therapist matchmaking platform because so many friends and family members would ask me for therapist referrals. What I came to realize was that when people finally decide they should find a mental health therapist, they are often faced with a huge hurdle: finding a qualified therapist. Finding a therapist is not easy, especially if you are not a professional in the mental health industry and do not know all the right questions to ask. Mistakes can be easily made as many people either skip or rush through the research and interview step of finding a therapist.

If it is a person’s first time in therapy and it is a bad experience, it is most likely they will never return to it.
Once you find your therapist match, you should still interview 2-3 therapists before
committing to a paid session with anyone. Face-to-face office visits or video sessions
are ideal. During the interview, be sure to check the therapist’s credentials with state government sites, and have a clear understanding of his or her treatment style, therapy process and verify whether or not that therapy approach is evidence-based as defined by the American Psychological Association. Also, ask the therapist if he or she has ever treated anyone with similar concerns to yours. This will give you a clearer picture on the therapist’s treatment approach. It is important in this initial interview with the therapist, that you do not do all the talking.

You can share at a high level about what is going on (like, I’m grieving from the death of my mother), but do not get into the
details. Let the therapist do the majority of the talking so you can get a really good feel for his or her compatibility to you and your needs. Additionally, make sure that the therapist you select is licensed to work in your state. The increased popularity of virtual sessions since the start of the pandemic has opened many more options for people
seeking counseling, but if you go the virtual route, you still need to make sure the therapist is licensed to work in the state in which you reside. Ultimately, to live a truly fulfilled life, remember that it is just as important to place a high
priority on your mental health as it is for your physical health. You deserve the chance to unlock your true potential and live the life you have always dreamed of so do not let anything get in the way of your mental health, which is part of your overall health.

Start with the research step and find the therapist that is the best match for your specific needs – then the rest of the journey will be less stressful from there.

NIHF Museum ‘Champions of Innovation’ Exhibit Honors Sports Bra Inventors

CHAMPIONS OF INNOVATION

From world-famous photos from the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup to gyms worldwide, the sports bra has helped provide sports equity, health, and quality of life for women and girls worldwide. In recognition of this invention and the contributions of women innovators, the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF) Museum, in partnership with the global lifestyle and athletic wear brand Champion®, announces a new exhibit, “Champions of Innovation.”

This exhibit, now available for viewing in the newly reopened NIHF Museum, celebrates groundbreaking women, including NIHF Inductees Lisa LindahlHinda Miller, and Polly Smith, inventors of the Jogbra® — the world’s first sports bra.

To tell the story of the sports bra, this exhibit highlights its inventors and features artifacts that show its evolution.

Among the garments featured is a prototype replica of the original Jogbra, constructed out of two jockstraps. The original Jogbra was developed in 1977 when Lindahl wanted to create a more supportive bra for greater comfort while running. She then teamed up with Smith, who sewed the original prototype.

The sports bra was patented in 1979. Miller and Lindahl commercialized the invention as the Jogbra and co-founded their company, Jogbra Inc., which was later renamed JBI.

The Jogbra launched a multi-billion-dollar industry. Playtex Apparel bought JBI Inc. in 1990, and in 1991, Sara Lee — the owner of Champion Products Inc. — bought Playtex and formed the Champion Jogbra division.

A wall-sized timeline spanning the Champion brand’s history traces how the brand has continued to raise the bar in comfort, style, and innovation.

Another key feature of the “Champions of Innovation” exhibit is a panel honoring women in diverse fields who have persevered by meeting challenges with integrity. These icons include Wilma Rudolph, the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field at a single Olympics; Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mount Everest; and Sonia Sotomayor, the third woman and first Hispanic justice appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Additionally, the exhibit features an interactive “Create-a-Champion” experience, challenging everyone to be an innovator. Visitors are invited to swap out pieces of Champion fabric to make their own designs, pair them with several inspiring qualities, and then share their creations on social media using #createachampion.

Champion stands for inclusion in sports,” said Maria Teza, senior vice president of Champion North America. “We’re proud to partner with the National Inventors Hall of Fame to honor women in sports and from all walks of life who exemplify an entrepreneurial spirit and the heart of a champion.”

“At the National Inventors Hall of Fame, we have the privilege of honoring the lives and accomplishments of some of the world’s greatest innovators,” said NIHF CEO Michael Oister. “As we highlight women trailblazers in the ‘Champions of Innovation’ exhibit, NIHF is proud to honor these extraordinary innovators who are inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.”

The National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum is located at the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Madison Building in Alexandria, Virginia. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., admission to the museum is free and open to the public.
