FLEETWOOD RV SPACE ODYSSEY

Fleetwood RV has curated a list of four destinations that deliver a space odyssey for families looking for out-of-the-world fun.

Fleetwood RV is one of the most established brands in the motorhome industry that’s ideal for families. Griffith Park Observatory, The easiest way to add some outer space to your next road trip is to visit a city with an observatory. Griffith Park Observatory is a stunning building and campus, admission is free, and it’s smack dab in the heart of Los Angeles, which means an endless list of things to do when you’re done looking at and learning about the stars.

Kennedy Space Center, History buffs, and space nuts should point their RVs towards Merritt Island, Florida, home to the legendary Kennedy Space Center. You could easily spend a week working through all of the attractions, from exploring the actual equipment used in missions to learning about the history and even going through some astronaut training yourself! And if you time the trip right, you might be able to catch an actual space shuttle launch while you’re in the area. 

Craters of the Moon Monument and National Preserve, If you want a vacation destination that feels like another planet entirely, look no further than Idaho. Specifically, the Craters of the Moon Monument and National Preserve. According to an official website, “the monument preserves around 53,500 acres of volcanic formations and lava flows on the northern rim of the Snake River Plain in south central Idaho.” The result is a wonderfully weird terrain that you’ll never forget. 

Roswell, New Mexico, A list of out-of-this-world destinations wouldn’t be complete without including one of the most famous. Nestled in scenic southeast New Mexico, Roswell is a tourist treat, offering plenty of UFO-centric features and attractions, as well as plenty of non-UFO offerings. Each July, the town hosts its UFO Festival, which celebrates the Roswell Incident.

LIMITED EDITION BEASTIE BOYS

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Beastie Boys’ multi-platinum album Check Your Head, on August 12, UMe will release a limited-edition reissue of the rare 4LP deluxe version of the album, originally released in 2009 as an artist store exclusive. The long out-of-print and much sought-after box set features a 2009 remaster of the original double album, plus two extra LPs of bonus content including remixes, live versions, and B-sides. All four LPs are pressed on 180-gram vinyl and housed in a fabric-wrapped, stamped, hardcover case. The Check Your Head 4LP box set can be purchased at participating independent retail outlets and will also be available to pre-order exclusively through the Beastie Boys online store, HERE.

Originally released in April 1992, Check Your Head was a milestone for Beastie Boys on multiple levels: It was their first album to be produced, in its entirety, by Beastie Boys with Mario Caldato Jr. and to feature keyboard player Keyboard Money Mark, as well as the first to be recorded at the band’s own G-Son studios in Atwater Village, CA. Most significantly, however, Check Your Head marked the return of live instrumentation to the forefront and backbone of the Beastie Boys sound, with the bulk of the album featuring Mike D on drums, Adrock on guitar, and MCA on bass for the first time since the band’s early 1980s hardcore punk recordings.

Featuring the now-classic tracks “So What’cha Want,” “Pass The Mic,” “Gratitude” and “Jimmy James,” Check Your Head stormed the U.S. Top 10, ultimately returning Beastie Boys to hard-touring, platinum-selling status, and setting the band up for the pop cultural dominance it would achieve in the decade to come.

MARQUEE MUSIC FESTIVAL

The marquee music festival – a true celebration of Latin rhythm and pride – will include performances by globally acclaimed artists including Maluma, Prince Royce, Natanael Cano, Ivy Queen, and more.

The feature-length documentary made its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival last month and was followed by a performance from Lil Baby.

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Baby has been one of the world’s most impactful artists since his first release in 2017. Untrapped tells his story and details his meteoric rise to become the most dominant name in the rap game. While still a teenager, Baby—known to friends and family as Dominique Armani Jones—was one of the most notorious figures in the streets of West Atlanta, before he was arrested and sent to prison. After his release in 2016, he faced a hard choice: Return to the fast money of the streets, or take a chance that his charisma and untested talent could bring him success as a rapper. In 2020, his second album, My Turn, was the year’s top seller across all genres of music. Today, Lil Baby is a devoted father to his two young boys and a powerful voice in the fight for racial justice and police reform. Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby chronicles the astonishing rise of a singular artist and activist, and explores the systemic oppression that keeps far too many people of color from participating in the American Dream.

“I’m blessed to be able to tell my story and have people care to hear it,” said Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones. “This film is a real look into my journey, and if it inspires even one person to believe that they can get through hard stuff and dare to follow a dream, then it was worth every penny spent and hour worked. “Baby, like so many in this country, went through so many obstacles that could have thrown him into many bad places in life. Pantha du Prince has announced the release of his new album Garden Gaia

Garden Gaia is the latest chapter in a project that has been ten years in the making, which presents the artist, Hendrik Weber aka Pantha du Prince, as a close observer and mindful listener. It adds a new, forward-looking perspective to Pantha du Prince’s work, which began in 2004 with Diamond Daze, his first album, and found his way with the critically acclaimed masterpiece Black Noise and his first collaborative album The Bell Laboratory.

The new album, Garden Gaia will be released August 26, 2022, on CD / LP / Digital and features the first single “Golden Galactic” out now, with a video by Natalia Stuyk, a video and installation artist based in Granada, Spain. 

Like Conference of Trees (his first album on Modern Recordings, 2020), Garden Gaiaisan artistic exploration of nature. An investigation with the means of music about the earth as a vision of a perfectly functioning garden. Reflection on nature has been the overarching theme of Pantha du Prince’s music and an integral part of his musical research. 

To the same extent, nature is not only a place of longing for more and more people who see it as an alternative to the weariness of meaningless eternal commercial progress, the concern for the earth as a place of the future is also the central social and cultural discourse in society. 

“There are scientists who say that we humans are the ocean that’s been folded together. My music is about raising consciousness, about describing the reality of life and the lost paradise through the means of music. It’s about entering a free space and developing a maximum degree of openness and sensitivity to our bodies – to our mental states and the atmosphere that surrounds us. It’s about mindfulness and a high level of awareness towards what’s happening around and within us,” says Pantha du Prince. “I’ve poured all of these experiences into Garden Gaia as music. And that’s to be taken in the literal sense of ‘pouring,’ since we belong to a flowing process on this planet. A tree also flows into the air, just as it’s connected to other trees beneath the ground through currents of communication. Our lungs flow into our bodies. And as embryos, we were flowing beings. The question is: to what extent can we adult humans continue to flow?”

That said, Pantha du Prince doesn’t make music as a provocation. His tracks are founded upon the principle of empathy and the willingness to change the system within us. It’s not about limitless growth or accumulation or overexploiting resources (including our own) but about a productive emergence as an individual in the current of the world.

In “Golden Galactic,” the album’s first single, Pantha du Prince delineates a golden shimmer that’s like a primordial substance for life – the desire to live: “I recorded ‘Golden Galactic’ during a really special moment. I was awake and this golden shimmer slipped through my fingers and turned into sound. I kept playing and playing on a synthesizer while listening to myself play. Then I listened to this music with Friedrich Paravicini. Afterward, he composed strings for it – it’s like a musical dialogue.”

For the nine new tracks on Garden Gaia, Pantha du Prince has again expanded his musical vocabulary of electroacoustic expression in a creative process that is extremely collaborative. None of the tracks on Garden Gaia were recorded with the exact same lineup: He collaborated with different musicians in different locations on every track. That Garden Gaia is such an incredibly homogenous album despite the diversity has to do with the fact that Pantha du Prince has, to some extent, seeing himself as an observer of what was created with others before his very own eyes. He just let a lot of things happen – as if he were watching a garden grow. If we follow this idea even further, then this garden is none other than the Garden of Eden, and the planet Earth is a manifestation of paradise.
