Carley Rae Jepson The So Nice Tour

CARLY RAE JEPSEN – TSN TOUR

Multi-platinum GRAMMY, Juno, and Polaris Prize-nominated singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen to announce a fall North American headline tour. Her first North American headline tour since 2019, The So Nice Tour will kick off September 24th at MTELUS in Montreal, QC, and will make stops at marquee venues including Radio City Music Hall in New York City and The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Empress Of will support tour dates from Sept. 24 to Nov. 5 with her forthcoming EP Save Me out June 24.

The Artist presale is Wednesday, June 8 at 10 am local time. Fans can register for artist presale codes on Jepsen’s tour dates page HERE. General on-sale is Friday, June 10 at 10 am local time. Jepsen has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket sold will go to The Ally Coalition’s work to support homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth.

Two already announced co-headline dates with Bleachers; September 21 in Cleveland, OH, and September 22 in Toronto, ON, are already on sale and precedes The So Nice Tour. Jepsen will also make a stop in Austin on October 7 for the Austin City Limits Festival. See below for a complete list of tour dates.

Jepsen’s The So Nice Tour announcement follows the May release of her highly anticipated single “Western Wind,” and the accompanying video, which Jepsen first performed during her set at Coachella. Co-written by Jepsen and Rostam Batmanglij, “Western Wind” continues a collaboration the two musicians first kicked off with E*MO*TION. A major creative milestone for Jepsen, E*MO*TION inspired in-depth analysis from cultural critics and landed on multiple year-end “best of” lists including Pitchfork, Stereogum, Noisey, NPR, and many more. Released in 2019, her follow-up album Dedicated covered even more musical and emotional ground. Working with a crew of trusted songwriters and producers (among them John Hill, Jack Antonoff, Captain Cuts, Patrik Berger, and her longtime collaborator Tavish Crowe), Jepsen indulged in more sonic experimentation than she had in the past. She returned the following May with a gift for her fans: Dedicated Side B, a buoyant set of dance-floor tunes that affirmed her status as pop’s undefeatable ambassador of love. Much more to come from Carly Rae Jepsen in 2022.

TEMPTATIONS 60

The Temptations, the legendary, Grammy Award ® -winning group, led by founding member, Otis Williams are kicking off their summer and fall concert seasons this month with fan favorites such as, “My Girl,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me),” “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg,” “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” and more.

Hitting the road with original Temptations member, Otis Williams will be longtime lead vocalists, Ron Tyson, and Terry Weeks, and new to the group, Grammy-nominated vocalist Anthony “Tony” Grant, and new member, Jawan M. Jackson, from the original cast of the Tony Award-Winning Broadway musical, Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations. Jackson played the starring role as beloved, original Temptation, Melvin Franklin.

Jawan M. Jackson will be making his debut with The Temptations this month as the bass vocalist. Born and raised in the heart of Motown, Jawan M. Jackson is a native of Detroit. Jackson made his professional debut starring in Broadway’s Motown: The Musical. In Broadway’s Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations, he originated the leading role of Melvin Franklin and earned a Grammy® nomination for the musical’s cast album.

He has also appeared in several feature films, television movies, and specials. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Jackson began his career as a radio personality for Detroit’s top radio stations. Jackson is also thrilled to be part of the Board of Directors for Rosie’s Theatre Kids.

Anthony Grant, a Grammy-nominated vocalist joined the legendary Temptations earlier this year as a lead vocalist. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in North Carolina, Grant achieved his initial fame in the music industry as the lead vocalist for Az Yet (LaFace Records). He has also performed with a range of artists, including Brian McKnight, Dr. Dre, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, and Harry Connick Jr. He has also starred in several Tyler Perry theater productions and television series.

Ron Tyson, first tenor and a lead vocalist for the Temptations, has been a member of the group for 39 years, beginning in February 1983. Born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Monroe, NC, Ron was a big Temptations fan growing up and idolized Eddie Kendricks and his style. He feels blessed to be a member of the group and has often referred to his Temptations career as one of the greatest things to happen to him. Ron’s first appearance as a member of The Temptations was on the “Motown 25, Today, Yesterday, Forever” network television special in 1983.

Terry Weeks, a lead vocalist for the Temptations, has been with the group for 25 years, since 1997. Terry grew up in Bessemer, AL near Birmingham listening to gospel, bluegrass, and country music. Weeks spent eight years in the Air Force, from 1982 to 1990, serving in Korea and the U.S. at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS, and Gunter Air Force Station in Montgomery, AL. He would often sing locally around the Montgomery base, and performed in Tops in Blue, an Air Force ensemble, made up of active-duty members, that toured globally performing for airmen and their families.

Dr. Otis Williams said, “With the launch of our new album and our 60th-anniversary celebration continuing throughout the year, I am thrilled to have such talented vocalists as Tony Grant, and now Jawan Jackson, join our lineup. Just as The Temptations’ music has been passed between generations, it’s exciting for me, Ron, and Terry to share the stage with new generations of vocalists. We have an exciting concert tour planned for the summer and fall, and we look forward to seeing fans at our shows here and abroad.”

Jawan Jackson and Anthony Grant commented, “It’s amazing to be a part of a group with such a rich history and legacy and performing alongside Motown legend, Otis Williams as well as phenomenal vocalists Ron Tyson and Terry Weeks, all of whom we respect so much, is an honor.”

The Temptations are scheduled to headline concerts around the country this summer and then abroad this fall in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. For concert details, see the link HERE.

To promote their new 60th Anniversary album, Temptations 60, available now via stream and as a CD edition, see the link HERE. The Temptations will be performing the single from the new album, “Is It Gonna Be Yes or No,” written and produced by the legendary Smokey Robinson, during their concerts.

The Temptations, often referred to as American music royalty, are world-renowned superstars of entertainment, revered for their phenomenal catalog of music and prolific career. They are one of the most iconic, bestselling brands in the entertainment world today. While the group has evolved over the years, Dr. Otis Williams has continued to lead the group and carry the torch forward for the next generation of Temptations fans.

Ranked #1 in Billboard magazine’s most recent list of the “Greatest R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of All Time,” The Temptations also appear in the magazine’s 125th Anniversary list of the “125 Greatest of All Time Artists.” In addition, Rolling Stone magazine named the group among the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.” In September of 2020, the editors of Rolling Stone magazine commented that The Temptations are “Indisputably the greatest black vocal group of the Modern Era…,” and listed the group’s Anthology album among the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.” The Anthology album has appeared in all three of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums lists.

The group is celebrating its 60th Anniversary through 2022. To mark this milestone, The Temptations released a brand-new album, Temptations 60, executive produced by founding member, Otis Williams. The new album consists of nearly all-original songs that are both modern and classic in feel and sound. In addition to tracks produced by group members, the album brings the iconic group together again with some of its beloved producers, including the legendary Smokey Robinson and Narada Michael Walden.

The Temptations are currently touring the U.S. and will also headline concerts this fall in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

The Temptations have been the subject of a smash-hit Broadway musical, Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations, based on Otis Williams’ journey, which opened on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre on March 21st, 2019. The musical received 12 Tony nominations, including Best Musical, and won the Tony Award® for Best Choreography at the 73rd Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 10, 2019. Now on tour, the Musical is scheduled to open in theaters in more than 50 cities across the U.S. during the next several years. For details, see HERE.

Their Emmy® Award-Winning Television mini-series, The Temptations, which first aired to rave reviews in 1998, is still on air or streaming every day somewhere in the world. Williams’ critically acclaimed autobiography, Temptations, was released as an audiobook edition for the first time in 2020, with a new introduction by Williams.

Throughout the group’s evolution, they have released countless gold, platinum, and multi-platinum chart hits, many of which are considered American masterpieces. They have 16 No. 1 R&B chart albums, 44 Top 10 R&B chart hits, including, 14 No. 1 R&B singles, plus four No. 1 Hot 100 singles.

The Temptations heritage, influence, and contributions to, not only American culture and African American communities but also to the global music landscape are monumental. The Temptations presence in the world today has never been more vivid, and their popularity is ever-increasing.

Neneh Cherry remix of Manchild by SIA via 360 Magazine

NENEH CHERRY – MANCHILD

Neneh Cherry shares the TOKiMONSTA remix of Sia’s version of her hit “Manchild.” TOKiMONSTA has re-imagined Sia’s take of the Neneh Cherry classic into a technicolour mandala of futuristic melodies, house, and IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) that encompass the Grammy-nominated DJ and producer’s sound. The remix arrives ahead of her upcoming album The Versions, a collaboration album of covers from her expansive catalogue by an all-female lineup of some of the most exciting and revered artists of our time, drops June 10th.

Alongside Sia, other artists involved include a long-time friend, one of pop’s treasured musical geniuses, and the woman behind some of the most memorable songs of the recent decade, Robyn, who teamed up with Mapei to re-imagine the seminal track “Buffalo Stance” into a slinky, scandipop song with the help of Dev Hynes on production. Pop provocateur, ANOHNI lends her haunting vocals to “Woman”, delivering an arresting remake of the empowering track, and south London nomad Greentea Peng transforms “Buddy X” into a garage infused number. Singer-songwriter and poet Jamila Woods added her soulful touch on “Kootchi” with artist and violinist Sudan Archives completely reconstructing “Heart” into a sparse and delicate offering. Seinabo Sey adds Scandinavian soul to “Kisses On The Wind”, Kelsey Lu’s ethereal vocals on her version of “Manchild” transports the track into unworldly heights with Neneh’s daughter TYSON bringing her sensual attitude to “Sassy” before Honey Dijon wraps things up, taking things to the dancefloor with her house remix of “Buddy X”.

Neneh Cherry has continued to define and redefine culture, style, and music, releasing five studio albums, including 2018’s Broken Politics, produced by Four Tet, which was met with critical acclaim by the likes of The Guardian, Rolling Stone, The Times, Q, and Pitchfork. 2020 saw her reissue her radically influential debut album Raw Like Sushi to celebrate its 30th anniversary and recently received the honorary Icon Award at the NME Awards 2022.

SOPHIA SCOTT – OOTD

After 58 million streams and one million monthly listeners, EMPIRE Nashville’s Sophia Scott released debut EP, One Of These Days–a collection of six tracks. Available everywhere now, the EP illuminates Sophia’s limitless musicality which flows seamlessly through country, pop, rock and R&B. Candidly opening up about deeply personal topics like divorce, addiction, heartache and hope, Scott turns trauma into triumph with her lyrics. With her fearless first full-length body of work, Scott emphasizes her position as a country artist-to-watch with a promising career in Nashville and beyond for many years to come. She is excited to take her new music on the road this year, kicking off with a buzz worthy performance for Spotify’s Fresh Finds stage at CMA Fest on June 12.

Thematically connecting the EP with title track One Of These Days, which received praise from Entertainment Tonight, E! News, Holler Country, Just Jared and more, Sophia identifies how her parents’ struggling marriage eventually helped her to define her own perspectives on life – from her career, to friendships and romantic encounters. In April, she made her official television debut with a powerful performance of the song on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

With the EP’s opener Don’t Tempt Me, Scott immediately welcomes her fun side with the perfect soundtrack for a wild night out with friends. The track sets the stage for a body of work which balances poignant ballads with high-energy, country bops. Scott follows the up-tempo kickstarter with her powerful 2021 ballad Side Effects, which confronts her painful experiences watching friends and family struggle with addiction. As she heals her own scars with Side Effects, she hopes to give a voice to anyone who has also driven a loved one to rehab and taken steps to help them recover. Since its release in May 2021, the track has opened an important mental health conversation on TikTok, with many users sharing their own stories alongside the song.

Praised for the authenticity of her writing, her music is characterized by her willingness to be raw and vulnerable. She counters this unapologetic candor with infectious confidence on the “Charlie’s Angels”-inspired anthem titled Leather Skirt, which aims to empower women of every generation. She emphasizes that the timeless fashion staple has the power to make a girl at any age feel like her best self. Further amplifying the ‘women empowerment’ vibe, Scott’s latest single for the EP, More Me, is a fiery ‘girls night out’ anthem, an invitation to hit the dance floor and reminder to love yourself. The track debuted on Spotify’s New Music Nashville and is currently featured on the platform’s Next From Nashville playlist. The EP also features her unconventional Valentine’s Day’ single Sweetheart,  which sees her reflecting on first-time love and flashing back to happy moments with an old flame who still holds a place in her heart.

“This body of work is my heart. I am so proud of it and thrilled to finally share this piece of me. Putting my experiences into songs is my way to navigate things and has been the best form of therapy for me. I hope that my lyrics offer hope to those who can relate,” says Scott. “I hope my songs empower you to also put on your favorite outfit and hit the dance floor.”

TRACKLIST:

  1. Don’t Tempt Me
  2. Side Effects
  3. Leather Skirt
  4. One of These Days
  5. More Me
  6. Sweetheart

Stream One Of These Days, the EP, by Sophia Scott HERE. Sophia Scott may originally hail from Boulder, CO, but the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist found a home in Nashville, TN by continuing a time-honored tradition of storytelling with no shortage of gusto and grit. When it comes to her music, she writes from the heart, shoots from the hip, and holds nothing back. Instead of retreating, she confronts heartbreak head-on and emboldens audiences with the kind of confidence only earned by a lifelong grind. After a childhood immersed in music, she settled in Los Angeles for six years. She performed around town and even headlined her own residencies. Her cover of Tove Lo’s Habits (Stay High) took off and set the stage for buzzworthy originals such as Closure. Breaking through, Quit cracked 1 million Spotify streams, while Atwood Magazine raved, “Having grown up on classic rock, R&B, and country/soul. Scott takes care in crafting both the sound and meaning of her songs – never shirking one for another.” Holler Country says,“she’s fast making a name for herself with her own unique brand of gutsy heart-on-its-sleeve southern pop.” She claimed coveted real estate on Spotify’s New Music Friday with White Fence, Drink Too Much Wine, and She Ain’t Me. Eventually, she picked up and moved to Nashville, finding a permanent foothold in Music City and landing a deal with EMPIRE Nashville in 2021. While 2021 was a major year for the rising country artist who also opened for the Jonas Brothers in Nashville and claimed a coveted spot on PEOPLE Magazine’s “artists to watch” list, 2022 is poised to be career-defining with the release of her debut EP One Of These Days.

AERIAL OBJECTS

Violinist, composer, and Grammy Award-winning sound engineer, Simon Goff, has teamed up with acclaimed, multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter, Katie Melua, and announced their forthcoming collaborative album, Aerial Objects

The album is due for release digitally and on CD on July 15 via BMG and on vinyl on September 2. Alongside the announcement, Simon and Katie have shared the stunning ‘Hotel Stamba’, the first single to be taken from the album. You can pre order AERIAL here.

Simon Goff and Katie Melua were two musicians who moved into very different musical circles. Simon is more closely aligned to a bloodline of artists who inhabit an area between electronic, classical, and post-rock, with his unique approach to sound seeing him work with some of the world’s most acclaimed musicians, including Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir on the scores for Joker and Chernobyl – both of which earned him Grammy Awards. Katie, meanwhile, has released 8 Top 10 UK albums across a 20-year career littered with modern standards including ‘Closest Thing To Crazy’ and ‘Nine Million Bicycles’.

Her latest LP, Album No.8, was released in 2020 to huge acclaim, and the accompanying Acoustic Album No.8 was released in 2021 and featured contributions from Simon on ‘Remind Me To Forget’ and ‘Maybe I Dreamt It’.

After that initial collaboration on Katie’s album, the pair agreed they immediately wanted to test the boundaries of what collaboration could look like from a blank canvas.

An exhibition the pair attended at the iconic brutalist edifice of the König Gallery in Berlin was the catalyst for the album’s thematic terrain. A discussion on the emotional effects of different spaces and architecture sparked an exploration of landscapes, both man-made and natural, and turned into experimental compositions that move, moment by moment, between the song spaces of Katie and the immersive melodies of Simon.

With Simon at the musical helm and Katie’s imagination and lyrical freedom addressing how environments shape her thinking and state, this six-track collaboration record is an exploratory project of two artists searching beyond their usual musical boundaries into places unknown.

On the album, Simon says “The process of making this album has been one of discovery and giving space to each other. The sensitivity needed for this kind of process has allowed many things to surface, from us discovering the differences in how we listen to and hear music and lyrics, to our own deeply personal life experiences. The record for me is a representation of us exploring the space that exists between us and discovering a common voice from within it.”

Katie says “I was fortunate enough to work with Simon when he appeared as a guest on an acoustic album I released late last year. During those sessions, and as a maker of immersive musical landscapes, Simon talked to me about creating records that make the listener feel like they are inside the orchestra. We agreed that we needed to create something new together – with a focus on how different environments affect the human condition.

She continues, “On Aerial Objects, our two artists’ worlds have merged to create a new space: Simon on the violin, analog processing, and synths, coming together with my world of traditional records rooted around the pop song. Lyrically this work has allowed me the freedom of imagination to address how environments shape my thinking and state; how the use of language and story-telling influence me; as well as the opportunity to finally reflect on a time in my life when I was recovering from a very challenging psychiatric illness.”

The album’s first single, ‘Hotel Stamba’, was the second song the pair wrote for Aerial Objects and is a love song to the eponymous hotel in Tbilisi, Georgia, where Katie spent the first eight years of her life.

The accompanying video celebrates architecture, pivoting from man-made spaces and shining a light on one of the great architects of nature, bees.

Katie describes the single as “an attempt to create a piece of music which makes me feel the way this space made me feel when I stepped inside it.”

She continues, “‘Hotel Stamba’ is about a hotel in Tbilisi which massively changed my opinion of what was happening in Georgia culturally from 2017 to 2019. This building symbolizes both the past and future of Tbilisi, a place where the streets are named after poets and writers. I’ve spent a lot of time in hotels and I couldn’t believe that my home town had managed to create this stunning hotel, which was both sensitive to the local culture, and cool, and comfortable, and just really killing it on the world stage. And so it’s how that hotel made me feel.”

Life house inn newly renovated just in time for travel season via 360 Magazine

LIFE HOUSE

Following extensive renovations, three-storied boutique properties located in downtown Lenox are reopening together as part of The Lenox Collection, a newly reimagined family of inns connected by their deep historical roots in the town and elevated contextual design. As part of the reopening is Ophelia’s, a 66-seat restaurant and bar offering farm-to-table comfort food in an intimate indoor-outdoor setting, with locally sourced ingredients and a curated cocktail list. New York-based firm 388 Ventures acquired the properties in 2021 and brought on an independent hotel management company, Life House, to lead design and branding, as well as oversee all hotel and F&B operations leveraging their tech-enabled management platform.

“We’re pleased to announce the launch of The Lenox Collection, with a design language that pays homage to each property’s history while catering directly to the clientele visiting the increasingly popular four-season destination that the Berkshires have become. With Ophelia’s reopening right downtown, we’re excited to be a mainstay in the already impressive Lenox culinary scene,” says Russell Lange, partner at 388 Ventures.

At the heart of the collection is the Whitlock – formally The Church Street Inn – built-in 1771 by John Whitlock, a local farmer who turned his two-room farmhouse into an inn for stagecoach travelers. The property now takes cues from its natural surroundings with a rustic and warm feel reminiscent of its farmhouse origins. The Whitlock’s bar and restaurant, Ophelia’s, pays homage to the ingredients and labors of the hotel’s namesake. With locally-inspired farm-to-table cuisine with dishes featuring herbs & garnishes from local purveyors, Ophelia’s is already becoming a favorite among locals, guests, and downtown bypassers.

Located in the historic center of town is The Constance – formally the Rookwood Inn – which was built in 1825 as The Williams Tavern. In the 1880s it was purchased by Frederick Constance Peters, a businessman from England, who turned the property into ancillary lodging for owners of Lenox’s famed Gilded Age estates. The inn has been completely reimagined with an extensive renovation to restore and enhance the elegant charm and whimsical character of the storied property with the benefit of modern guest amenities.

On the north side of town is The Dewey – formally the Birchwood Inn – which was originally built by Israel Dewey, a founding member of Lenox’s Continental Congress Committee when the town was incorporated in 1767. Over the years, the site has taken on many lives, owned by various influential figures in the Berkshires. Today, the newly-reappointed inn carries on its rich tradition of hospitality with elevated guest room interiors and stately common areas.

“We are thrilled to reintroduce The Lenox Collection as the Berkshire hospitality landscape continues to mature,” says Bryan Dunn, Managing Director and Head of Growth at Life House. “In the past year alone, the market has seen luxury lifestyle brand Miraval open their first East Coast property, world-renowned designer Ken Fulk acquire the Blantyre, and Life House breathes new life into the Wheatleigh, a Leading Hotels of World property. The Lenox Collection delivers a locally-rooted boutique experience at a more accessible price point than these Five Star luxury hotels, catering to a large and diverse audience that is currently underserved by existing options in the market.”

Life House is a vertically integrated hotel software & operations platform focused on increasing profitability and reliability for independent hoteliers. Life House was founded in 2017 as one of the only vertically integrated asset-light hotel companies backed by institutional venture and private equity investors. The company is ambitiously investing in operational systems to make it far more profitable, predictable, and seamless for owners while making the guest experience more reliable for travelers. Today the company has nearly 60 hotels in its portfolio across North America.

NADER MUSEUM – FERNANDO BOTERO

The Nader Museum located in the Wynwood Arts District, Miami, proudly announces that ‘Botero Immersed’ in honor of Fernando Botero, will be extended through June 30, 2022. The exciting exhibit is a visual and engaging passage into the work of Botero with music composed by twenty-two times Grammy winner world producer Emilio Estefan. We’re inviting top media and influencers to visit this wonderful initiative from Monday to Saturday between 10:30AM and 5:00PM. Please let us know your availability so we can coordinate coverage.

Gary Nader, curator, and director of the museum, defines the exhibit as “a remarkable cultural event and multimedia experience, and features Botero’s iconic body of work from the 1960s to the present day through 360-degree interactive digital projections, lights, music and sounds.”

Guests will witness a selection of significant pieces representing his works over the last six decades, such as the circus personages, life in Latin America and its people, bullfighting, and adaptations of the work of art history masters. Botero’s narratives go beyond the represented object; a single image is full of connotations, and it may take spectators to a vast and unique universe of experiences. Botero’s “baroque” exaggeration of the portrayed objects reminds you that his signature style stands as an array of influences, from Renaissance masters to the 20th-century expressionist movements.

Fernando Botero was born in Medellin, Colombia (1932). In 1950, he graduated from Medellin University. He went on to study in Spain and Italy before eventually moving to New York in 1960, where he won the Guggenheim National Prize for Colombia. Over the next few years, Botero began to develop his trademark style. The small-town life he experienced as a child and the Colombian people of his youth would become his most rich source of inspiration. In 1973, Botero moved to Paris and began making sculptures. Botero has achieved international recognition for his painting, drawings, sculptures, and exhibitions around the world. His art is collected by many major international museums, corporations, and private collectors around the world.

Botero, with his immense sculptures, manipulates forms, proportions, volumes, and sizes to create smooth, round, and plump humans and animals that transform their surroundings and generate an immediate response from the viewer. He once said of his sculptures, “I never give particular traits to my figures. I don’t want them to have personality, but rather represent a type that I create. My sculptures do not carry any messages, social or otherwise. What matters for me is the form, the voluptuous surfaces, which emphasize the sensuality of my work. I like the enormous size; it is the fulfillment of my longing for voluptuous round forms.”

The Nader Museum, with over 1200 works of art from over 150+ important modern and contemporary masters, is compromised to elevate the importance of our culture by promoting excellence, a work performed by his founder Gary Nader for over 40 years.

Botero Immersed is also intended to promote the Nader Museum, a not-for-profit organization with 501(c)3 tax status. The museum is dedicated to showcasing a myriad of acclaimed art that fosters knowledge through a continuous process of appreciation and reinterpretation of modern and contemporary art from Latin American and its diaspora. Through a permanent collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, installations, and other media, the museum’s audience can experience and appreciate one of the world’s most significant regions of today’s contemporary art scene.

Tickets can be purchased here.

Mireya Ramos – Debut Album

Latin GRAMMY Award-winning Latinx vocalist Mireya Ramos releases her debut solo album, Mireya, on ONErpm with a star-studding affair featuring some of the biggest names in Latin music today, May 31, 2022. Mireya spotlights the acclaimed singer and founder of all-female mariachi band Flor de Toloache alongside special guests Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas), Mike Garson (Davis Bowie), Camilo Lara (Mexican Institute of Sound), Gaby Moreno, Jorge Glem, Claudia Brant, Haydée Milanés, Leo Genovese, Velcro, and Roman Rojas. An autobiographical depiction of a day in the life of Ramos, Mireya unveils stories of Afro-Latino pride, police brutality, Black Lives Matter, unbridled love, break-ups, and self-love.

Mireya dives into the story of a brown girl from Puerto Rico born to a Dominican mom and Mexican mariachi dad; of her nights dancing to New York City hip-hop and at Giant Step events; of jamming on her violin with DJs and bands from all over the world while hustling in Queens and Brooklyn performing mariachi music to make rent. It’s a reflection of her musical globe-trotting adventures from India and New Zealand (with her partner Andy Averbuch) to life-changing mariachi performances at The White House, the Latin GRAMMYs (live set celebrating Ruben Blades, “Person of the Year 2021”), and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.

Mireya represents my path and growth and the experiences that inspired that progress,” says Mireya Ramos. “It’s taken 10 years to bring this album out the way I’ve intended to. The process all started with laying down tracks in 2012 with producer Sinhue Padilha, who now tours with Lila Downs. It’s taken on a whole new life since then with so many of my favorite musicians playing on the recording. Mireya is a carefully crafted, honest portrayal from my soul to the ears and minds of those keen to know what makes me who I am.

Ramos sings down the cultural barriers between modern Anglo and Latin music on Mireya, blending genres with textures of Mexican classics while revealing the emotional heritage of America’s future. Mireya opens with Nunca te voy a Olvidar with Flor de Toloache, Jorge Glem and Roman Rojas. On the track, Ramos never forgets where she came from and shares the riches of Latin culture with the world.

La Llama highlights her collaboration with Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas; Ramos also appears on Quesada’s new album, Boleros Psicodélicos (ATO Records; June 3, 2022), on the track Tus Tormentas. A catchy hip-hop beat, thick low-end bass guitar, and Ramos’ violin set the perfect vibe for the duo’s vocals to glide above. With lyrics by Ramos’ brother Velcro, La Llama features her rapping debut. Inspired by Stevie Wonder’s Master Blaster, Canto takes listeners on a dub-adventure with chill island reggae putting smiles on listeners’ faces. Produced by Andy Averbuch, Canto includes a crew of Kiwi musicians from Ramos and Averbuch’s year-long stay in Aotearoa, New Zealand during the pandemic.

Lady Grinning Soul by David Bowie gets a Latinx make-over featuring pianist Mike Garson (who plays on the original track on the Bowie album, Aladdin Sane) with Ramos singing in Spanish and English with vocalist Gaby Moreno. The stripped-down version follows Ramos’ full-band single of the track produced by Camilo Lara (Mexican Institute of Sound). The remixed version on Mireya takes the vocals, piano, and strings centerstage.

Angelitos Negros, also featuring Camilo Lara, has been with Ramos her entire life with her mother singing it since she was a young child. Angelitos Negros speaks to the importance of the representation of black and brown communities, and the lack thereof. In the case of the storyline of Angelitos Negros, the whitewashing of BIPOC communities in historical paintings. Ramos took to the streets to perform Angelitos Negros at Black Lives Matter protests across the globe. Composed by her cousin Sonia Montez, Climbing Fences was inspired by the Michael Brown police shooting case in Ferguson, MS and represents all police brutality cases in black and brown communities.

Mireya rounds out with songs of love and loss. Mi Mayor Fortuna is a power-ballad writing collaboration between Ramos and two-time GRAMMY Award-winner Claudia Brant. Ramos channels the great Latin pop singers Laura Pausini and Cristian Castro with her soaring vocals on this heart-wrenching rancheras. Produced by Sonia Montez, La Golondrina is a beautiful Mexican classic traditionally performed at funerals and tributes her grandmother, Manisa. Ever since Ramos heard Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek, she’s envisioned recording herself doing a version of La Golondrina with the vocoder effect. The melody itself is sweet, yet melancholic. The rancheras Canción Mixteca features singer Haydee Milanés and Gaby Moreno, who contributes deft electric guitar work underneath the emotive vocal harmonies.

Quédate Aquí is equally fit for driving with the windows down and the volume up or on a sweaty dance floor. A cover of New Zealand’s stadium-packing pop behemoth Six60, Quédate Aquí is the Latinx summer jam of 2022. Para Mí carries an electro-synth soundscape with tasty drums by Stevie Wonder’s touring percussionist, Euro Zambrano. Ramos sings of a difficult ending to a romantic relationship, where her former lover keeps appearing in her dreams while she wishes he was only a faint memory.

Beauty Free is a self-assurance hymn, a mantra. Ramos composed the piece when she was not feeling herself, but knew she could rely on the healing powers of music. She wrote Beauty Free to remind herself that she is strong, beautiful, and always her own favorite girl.

“…her tender new single ‘Mi Mayor Fortuna’ further cements her as a powerhouse of a vocalist…

the romance she oozes is so beautiful it’s contagious.” –Remezcla
