Cartooning While Black Gallery Exhibit

Black cartoonists from The New Yorker present their work at the Cartooning While Black Gallery Exhibit at ChaShaMa.

Chashama and Art To Ware present Cartooning While Black, a preview of the art from the upcoming One Idea Press title release, The Anti-Racism Activity Book. Art from the volume, written and illustrated by cartoonist and comedian Victor Varnado, will be shown alongside fellow black New Yorker cartoonists, Yasin OsmanAkeem S Roberts, and Jerald Lewis II. This exhibition is curated by Rebecca Mills.

LOCATION: ChaShaMa Gallery, 320 West 23rd Street, NY, NY

WHEN: Thursday, July 15, 2021, to Thursday, August 5th.

The Anti-Racism Activity Book is a social satire created in the style of a children’s puzzle and coloring book. The exhibit will feature crosswords, word finds, and other nostalgic activity book throwbacks, combined with original cartooning work from Varnado, all using humor to illustrate how dumb racism is.

“Traditionally, very few black cartoonists have appeared in the New Yorker, but recent efforts by the magazine and the cartoon editor Emma Allen have made an exhibit like this possible,” said Jason Chatfield, president of The National Cartoonists Society and New Yorker cartoonist.

“Yasin Osman, Akeem S Roberts, Jerald Lewis II, and Victor Varnado’s illustrative works shown together in the same exhibit will be the first time such a presentation has ever happened,” he added.

As a comedian, Victor Varnado has appeared on Late Night With Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live. His writing and cartooning work have been showcased in MAD magazineVICEMarvel Comics and Salon. Varnado was born legally blind and is albinistic. His New Yorker cartoon created in response to the national unrest following the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police was one of the magazine’s most engaging pieces of content in 2020. Like Floyd, Victor also grew up in Minneapolis.

Zhu × John the Blind – Monster

Zhu unveils new single, Monster, in collaboration with John the Blind.

Grammy-nominated artist Zhu teams up with acclaimed singer/songwriter/producer John The Blind on the new single, Monster, released today via Astralwerks. A stunning departure from Zhu’s dusky signature sound, the track is a sparkling, straight-up celebration of unconditional love.

“I fell in love when you recognized my darkness/Made friends with all my monsters/And you still wanna stay, still wanna stay,” sings John, who takes the lead on vocals, with harmonies and a soulful falsetto closing from Zhu. The two artists produced and performed the track together, with Zhu on bass and John on guitar.

“I wanted to create a summer anthem for the kids who are finally able to go out,” says Zhu.

John The Blind – also known as John Ryan – released isolation, his first full-length album, earlier this year. His vocals have been heard on tracks by Pitbull, Brass Knuckles, and DJ Snake. A multi-Platinum songwriter and producer, he is also known for his work with One Direction, Maroon 5, John Legend, and others.

Tickets go on sale today for Zhu’s October 10 and 11 shows at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and his November 24 and 26 dates at Avant Gardner in Brooklyn. Zhu will perform a unique show each night. Shiba San will join as a special guest on all dates. Zhu will also be performing at numerous 2021 festivals, including ARC, III Points, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Outside Lands.

In May, ZHU played an unprecedented sold-out, six-night run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. Westword said, “dancing came easy to the beats of Zhu, who is as ultra-cool as musicians get and wildly talented, bringing in house music that could score a buzzed drive down Sunset Boulevard.” EDM.com praised his “epic, snow-covered return to Red Rocks,” while HITS Daily Double praised Zhu’s performance as “equal parts mesmerizing and invigorating – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Fresh off the release of his third studio album, Dreamland 2021, Zhu is featured on the cover of the July issue of DJ Mag. Hailing Dreamland 2021 as among the “50 Best Albums of 2021 So Far,” Billboard said, “oscillating between fuzzy, pulsing house (Sweet Like Honey) and spooky, ultra-low BPM, piano-laden meanders through the underworld (I Need That) the sonics are varied but the ambiance is consistently shadowy, falling also into the aural lineage of Zhu’s two previous LPs.” The Los Angeles Times observed, “it’s a record about profoundly missing the club and the shot at connection it offers.”

In an interview with the Times’ August Brown, Zhu talks about the album, the return to live entertainment and his experience as one of the most prominent Asian American musicians working today.

Alongside his music, Zhu has passionately pursued his interest in fashion, playing an essential part in the design of his fashion-forward merch. He is dropping new merchandise from his highly anticipated SUMMER OF DREAMLAND series each Thursday at 10:00 AM PT. The collection includes slides, kimonos, a sequined bomber, a tactical vest and a wrench pendant in addition to bucket hats, t-shirts, socks and hoodies – all in Zhu’s trademark colors, black and orange.

Saint Rien Releases Visuals for Why2

Saint Rien drops highly anticipated visuals for new age hit single, Why 2.

Saint Rien’s solo career is steadily climbing thanks to a handful of hip pop tunes released since the start of 2021. Tell The Truth and Like You were the first two singles laying down a solid foundation for what was coming next.

Today, Saint Rien is releasing the much-awaited visuals for his latest hit, Why2. Highlighting his catchy yet soft vocals while spellbinding us with unexpected changes halfway through the song, the rising artist’s Why2 is once again displaying the acute intuition and vision of his creative spirit.

The music video is written, directed, and produced by Saint Rien, and features his actual partner, Stephanie Flockhart, captured in the clip as his lover. The couple appears on screen in a bed floating over diverse backgrounds. Saint is wide awake while the girl sleeps soundly. The sea, cosmos, or city streets all scroll behind the flying bed, creating a magical atmosphere in which the couple finds themselves isolated from the world.
Why2 is a song that sees Saint share a moment of his life when, despite having everything he could ask for and more, the demons inside his mind tormented him all night.

About this time in his life, Saint shares: “Even when you seemingly have it all, the perfect person to share your life with, a single thought can torment you. Anxiety follows you through every up and down in your life but no one entertains the option that you might not be okay if you ‘should be.’”

Born in Australia and currently residing in Los Angeles, Saint Rien is a former frontman and key songwriter of the Australian Post-Hardcore sensation Storm the Sky. He has now switched lanes and embarked on a blossoming solo career that’s only just getting started.

The Latest Slot Technology This Year

Online casinos offer video slot titles that have now become increasingly popular in recent times because of the ability to play almost anywhere and anytime, providing there is stable access to the internet. Online video slots have continued to attract more players because of constant improvements and advancements in technologies used within online casino websites and applications, resulting in more entertaining titles with thousands of video slot titles now available to play in today’s market.

Pooled Progressive Jackpot Slot Networks

One of the most impressive online slots technology advancements is within the progressive jackpot segment of the video slots industry. Developers such as Microgaming, Playtech, and Pragmatic Play all manage jackpot networks found on the best slot sites online today, which are usually those licensed by the MGA and UKGC. Now putting a progressive jackpot game online is one thing but fostering payouts worth millions is another.

To help the jackpot in a network rise faster and to larger life-changing amounts, developers link multiple video slots to the same jackpot. For example, in the Playtech Age of the Gods jackpot network there are more than 15 slot titles, a table game, and a virtual wheel of fortune game all linked to the same jackpot. Each game has a different theme, reel count, pay lines, and so on to attract different types of players, and each bet a player makes 5% contributes to the jackpot.

With more game’s titles all connected to the same progressive jackpot, the jackpot will rise faster because multiple games will attract more players which also means bigger wins. Some of the largest networks right now include the aforementioned Age of the Gods by Playtech, then there is Microgaming’s WowPot which has 5 slots and counting as well as its Mega Moolah network which recently paid out a whopping €19.4 million jackpot!

Play video slots anywhere on web browsers or mobile applications

One reason that these slot titles have grown in popularity is down to the developers who have created them. They have been able to take advantage of advancements in the slot title’s code itself, which seamlessly transfers data from a web browser and displays onto different models of mobile or tablet devices effortlessly. This code can adjust to different screen sizes whilst displaying a functional and user-friendly platform without the need to install additional software.

With the ever-changing and improving technology in mobile applications, larger online casinos create their own online casino ports to boost the performance however many players have suggested that video slot titles run smoothly on either a traditional browser or a dedicated application these days. This is most notably because of HTML5 technology, with the code now more responsive than ever and through browsers such as Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and many more it can recognize different operating systems instantly and adjust accordingly to present the casino’s website in the best possible way, resulting in a near-perfect online gambling platform.

Popular video slot titles selected by casino aggregators

Casino aggregators are business-to-business companies offering services that provide online casinos and function primarily as a one-stop solution for casino operators. With the latest technology ever-changing, connecting developers with suppliers and operators of online casinos has never been easier. The one-time integration provides a variety of video slot titles, payment systems, and takes care of an online casino website’s technical issues using first class technical support teams which usually operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The casino aggregator, also known as a “casino games hub” or “game aggregation platform,” will offer access to a diverse portfolio of video slot titles developed for online casinos via one-time single API integration. Online casino operators can leave the hard work to the aggregator to select the most popular and innovative games in order to save themselves time and important resources.

Random number generators provide realistic gameplay

Random number generators are an important technology used by developers in video slot titles that have the primary aim to deliver an experience as close to a land-based casino as possible. A random number generator or RNG will achieve this by producing random results that give players a chance of winning against the house. A powerful computer program or algorithm can reel off vast sequences and pools of numbers instantly, which translate to a recognizable result or outcome for the player, giving a realistic and comparable experience to a land-based casino.

Return to player percentages

Video slot titles come into their own for return to player percentages with online casino players’ primary aim to secure winnings on their initial stake. The high percentages in video slots are attractive for players with an RTP around 96%. Often this is the minimum for online video slots, which basically means that the title expects to pay back 96% for every $1 wagered. However, what some players do not know is that an RTP ratio is in fact measured over a longer time frame, especially with video slots, and effectively this could mean a payback after hundreds of spins. This RTP also does not define the size of the win, so in theory, wins could be minimal.

Crypto Casinos

Online casino payment methods have improved in recent times and we often class casinos into three categories; land-based, traditional online, and cryptocurrency casinos. However, only recently have they accepted cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals, which use the latest blockchain technology. With the masses introduced to Bitcoin back9 in 2017, it was only a matter of time before cryptocurrencies reached the online casino sphere and major online casino brands adopted the virtual currencies as a tender.

BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC, XRP, DOGE, USDT, and Dash are the most popular cryptos used, and they mainly share the same benefits. Depositing via cryptocurrency is fast and more discreet, often used in countries where gambling on video slots is illegal. Players can store their crypto safely in an offline wallet and the processing times are almost instant nowadays. Cryptocurrency can be highly volatile, so whilst being more discreet, the value of your winnings can fluctuate from day to day.

Jesse McCartney – Kiss The World Goodbye

Jesse McCartney reveals new single and video, Kiss the World Goodbye, as well as announces fall tour dates.

Today, multi-platinum recording artist, singer, songwriter, and actor Jesse McCartney released his new anthemic single and video for Kiss The World Goodbye off his upcoming sixth studio album New Stage, due out Fall 2021. Representing a new chapter in his life, New Stage is set to mark his first full-length album in seven years. The video for Kiss The World Goodbye premiered on McCartney’s YouTube page at midnight last night. Later this year, McCartney will embark on a 2021 tour, in support of the forthcoming album, with pre-sale tickets available for purchase starting later today.

Inspired by his future wife, actress Katie Peterson, the single reflects their bond where they are ready to take on anything and everything. McCartney shares, “If this last year has taught us anything, it’s to hold our loved ones close. I hope my fans can overcome the fear and anxiety that has come with this pandemic, and if it helps, they can jump in the car with a friend or significant other, roll the windows down, blast this song, and just drive! This song is intended to inspire, even when you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. And when you have that special someone you can rely on, someone who can share in the good times and bad, it really gives you the sense that the two of you can take on anything.”

Kiss The World Goodbye is written by Jesse McCartney, Carah Faye (of Shiny Toy Guns and co-writer of Stay the Night performed by Zedd & Hayley Williams), and Morgan Taylor Reid (Grammy-nominated producer who has previously worked with Marshmello, Chromeo, Backstreet Boys, American Authors, MAX, etc.). The song follows last year’s singles Yours, an introspective look at the different roles he’s played throughout his life, and Friends, an homage to the people in one’s life who become chosen family.

Directed by brother & sister duo, Maxx & Madison, the music video is themed “us against the world,” and inspired by Bonnie & Clyde meets 1996’s Romeo & Juliet, co-starring McCartney’s fiancé Katie Peterson.

This November, McCartney is set to launch his tour in Austin, TX hitting over 20 cities before ending in Los Angeles. Pre-sale tickets go on sale today, July 21. General tickets go on sale starting July 23rd. There will also be VIP packages available for purchase. Additional details to come.

Thrice Scavengers cover via Dayna Ghiraldi-Travers for use by 360 Magazine

Thrice Announces New Album Horizons/East

Thrice releases new single, Scavengers, in anticipation of their new album, Horizons/East, out this fall.

Returning with their 11th studio album, the dynamic and explorative California-based rock band Thrice announces new album Horizons/East, out September 17 via Epitaph Records on streaming platforms. The album exemplifies art as a work of recognition: the human task of perceiving oneself amid details, disasters, and blessings as a relentlessly relational phenomenon among others. In this, Horizons/East is the rare rock album on which interrelatedness is a theme, painting an adventurous and lush landscape mixed by Scott Evans that the band self-produced and recorded at their own New Grass Studio.

The powerful new single, Scavengers, is out today. Over a dark and intricate braiding of guitar and drum grooves, the lyrics challenge us to discern the issues and information that bonds us versus what disintegrates and destroys. For vocalist Dustin Kensrue, the song is – but also kind of isn’t – a thing of the past. Whether lost in a media diet that is essentially a disinformation pipeline or, relatedly, trapped in fear of a future of eternal conscious pain, Kensrue speaks of “toxic worldviews I once inhabited, and in truth, a lot of people that I love are still in that place.”

To emerge from a global pandemic with a renewed sense of situational awareness, hard-won insight, and a new album is the kind of move we’ve come to expect from Thrice over the last twenty years. With Horizons/East, Kensrue and his bandmates address, with candor and courage, the fragile and awkward arrangements that pass for civilization, while inviting us to dwell more knowingly within our own lives. Without surrendering any of the energy and hard edge of their previous albums, they’ve given us a profoundly meditative work, which serves as a musical summons to everyday attentiveness.

Horizons/East conveys a palpable sense of danger, determination, and possibility. Some of the writing even began with open-ended challenges that the band laid on themselves like building a song using the quartal chords they found in much of the jazz they loved, or taking the Fibonacci sequence and turning it into a guitar riff.

Thrice seems ever eager to step out into these spaces unknown to them, unsure of where their feet will land, and this new record is no exception. Horizons/East is a soundtrack for deeper dreaming.

Rival Sons Announce Fall North American Tour

Rival Sons announce a fall headline tour to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their landmark album, Pressure and Time.

GRAMMY-nominated group Rival Sons will return to the road in North America on the Pressure and Time Tour this fall. The six-week headline run will see the band celebrating the 10th anniversary of their 2011 album, Pressure and Time, by performing the landmark long player live in its entirety. The tour kicks off on September 29 at Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and includes stops at legendary venues such as the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, the Riviera Theater in Chicago, The Warfield in San Francisco, The Wiltern in Los Angeles, and comes to a close on November 13 at House of Blues in Anaheim, CA. Most dates of the tour will feature support from Dorothy, with select dates supported by either Reignwolf or Myron Elkins. The official ticket pre-sale launches Wednesday, July 21.

For the first time, Rival Sons will perform their critically acclaimed and cult favorite second full-length album, Pressure & Time, from top to bottom. Upon its arrival in 2011, Pressure and Time garnered the band worldwide recognition and has since amassed over 40 million-plus streams and garnered widespread praise with the BBC affirming it is “simply stuffed with rollicking tunes.”

Last month, Rival Sons lit up Southern California with a two-night livestream event, Rival Sons “Pair of Aces: Live from the historic Catalina Casino on Santa Catalina Island.” They performed their debut LP, Before the Fire [2009], in its entirety on the first night and their self-titled EP, Rival Sons [2010], on the second.

Earlier this year, Rival Sons launched their very own label, Sacred Tongue Recordings, with distribution through Thirty Tigers. The band recently regained the master rights to several of their early releases and will reintroduce them to the world by first remastering their independent full-length debut LP, Before the Fire (2009), and self-titled EP Rival Sons (2010), on all DSPS, CD, and Vinyl – for the first time. They’ve printed up an exclusive run of 1000 copies of both Before the Fire and Rival Sons. Before the Fire will come in an orange splatter variant, while the EP is available in a clear with gold splatter variant. There will also be indie retailer exclusive colorways of each release in translucent orange and crystal clear, respectively. A repressing of Pressure and Time has not been announced but is expected in the coming months.

By looking back, Rival Sons also leap forward again as they continue working on more music and the follow-up to 2019’s Feral Roots, which not only garnered a 2020 GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Rock Album but also yielded a GRAMMY nomination for Best Rock Performance for the top 10 rock track, Too Bad, and features the #1 rock radio single, Do Your Worst. Produced by multi GRAMMY Award-winner Dave Cobb at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A, and the equally legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, AL, Rival Sons’ Feral Roots is available now on all streaming platforms.
