Formed in Derby, England, in 2012, The Struts have found themselves massively embraced by some of the greatest icons in rock-and-roll history. Along with opening for Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Guns N’ Roses, the UK-bred four-piece band was handpicked by Mötley Crüe to serve as the supporting act for their last-ever performances. Releasing their debut album Everybody Wants in 2016 and sophomore album YOUNG & DANGEROUS in 2018, they’ve toured incessantly since their formation, including worldwide headline shows and major festivals like Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, and Isle of Wight. When COVID-19 brought touring to a halt, The Struts created their third album Strange Days over the course of a charmed and frenzied burst of creativity last spring. After getting tested for COVID-19, the band moved into the L.A. home of producer Jon Levine and, within just ten days, laid down nine original tracks alongside their masterful cover of a KISS B-side.

Rediscovering Disneyland Auction

A RARE DISNEYLAND MOSAIC FROM THE COURTYARD OF SLEEPING BEAUTY CASTLE SELLS FOR AN ASTONISHING $363,000 AT VAN EATON GALLERIES “REDISCOVERING DISNEYLAND” AUCTION

Van Eaton Galleries, the Sherman Oaks based auction house specializing in Disney memorabilia and animation, and recognized authority on all things Disney, has announced that a Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle Mosaic (circa 1970s) sold for an astonishing final price at their “Rediscovering Disneyland” auction for $363,000. The mosaic sold for more than ten times the original estimate which was $30,000-$50,000 and is among other highlighted results announced by the auction house. Van Eaton Galleries held the two-day “Rediscovering Disneyland” auction this weekend (May 22 & 23) which represented one of the most significant and comprehensive collections of early Disney Theme Parks artifacts and Disney related memorabilia ever assembled with over 1,200 items.

The handcrafted mosaic that was part of the original Sleeping Beauty Castle before it was renovated in 1983. The massive, hand-crafted artwork consisting of hundreds of individual tiles features an image of Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip and is an actual piece of the Original Sleeping Beauty Castle. This wall mounted artwork was a prominent installation within the early years of Fantasyland and was removed around the time of the massive New Fantasyland refurbishment of 1983. The tiles remain set in their cement with original mesh wire backing. It is an original section of the walls of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland and measures 36” x 44.” It is a true one-of-a-kind Disneyland relic.

Other highlighted results included a single Disneyland Club 33 Dinner Plate which sold for $12,300 with an original estimate of only $100-$200; a Disneyland Club 33 Cast Member Hostess Dress and Belt which sold for $7,380 with an original estimate of $500-$700; The Haunted Mansion Imagineering Blueline Map Print sold for $17,220 with an original estimate of $1,000-$3,000; a Disneyland Fantasyland Bench sold for $22,140 with an estimate of $3,000-$5,000 and The Matterhorn Coat of Arms Entryway Plaque sold for $6,450 with an original estimate of $500-$800. Coming up this season:

  • While Gizelle Bryant’s west wing dreams finally come true, the wings of love start to unravel with her ex-husband, Jamal, and she tries to focus on building a happyhome with her children.
  • Karen Huger’s marriage institution is 25 years strong, and she is ready to celebrate the momentous occasion in a big way—but a pandemic and Ray could both put a damper on her caviar dreams.
  • Ashley Darby is expanding her family with Baby Darby 2.0. She is happier than she has ever been, but fear of the postpartum depression and relationship issues with Michael that she fought hard to overcome after giving birth to Dean threaten her joy.
  • Robyn Dixon has waited a long time for that ring, but between building a house, a business, and possibly a wedding, she is overwhelmed and finding it challenging to be motivated to do much else. And it’s causing trouble in paradise with her fiancé, Juan.
  • Candiace Dillard-Bassett is going after her dreams with a vengeance: she’s back in school for her master’s degree, working on her album, and pursuing acting. Her husband, Chris, has stepped in as her “husbanger” to help her keep it together—but things get tricky when Chris struggles to separate work from wife.
  • Dr. Wendy Osefo has a new attitude and is making some massive changes to her life to go along with it as she ventures into new territories in work, fashion, and even her friendships. She is finally living her truth and is ready to show the ladies the other side of Dr. Wendy.
  • Mia Thornton is an entrepreneur and a certified “boss.” She is living life like it’s golden with her multiple businesses while being a mother of three and wife to her successful husband, who is 32 years her senior. Mia has not always lived on Easy Street, but she is ready to let it all hang out with the ladies of Potomac.
  • Robyn’s friend Askale Davis is a bubbly, fashionable mother of three with a proud Ethiopian heritage. She also goes by the name “Ethi-Oprah,” but unlike her namesake, she likes to stir the pot.

Meet the new housewife: Mia Thornton

Mia Thornton joins the ladies of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” this season. She is a woman who marches to the beat of her own drum as an entrepreneur, franchise owner, and regional developer. Mia is a graduate of Southeastern Institute, where she received her degree in Neuromuscular Massage Therapy. After graduation, Mia launched her career in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a Clinic Director that eventually led to a five-year partnership with a prominent Fortune 500 company and ownership of Massage Envy Spas. Soon afterward, the expanded success of the company allowed her to develop the Joint Chiropractic Doctor Offices in North Carolina, Virginia, DC, Maryland, and New York. Mia currently resides in Maryland with her husband, Gordon Thornton, of 9 years, and three children, Joshua, Jeremiah, and Juliana. Her philanthropic passion has led her and Gordon to serve on the board and sponsor families of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. She is also a proud sponsor of A Better World, UNCF, Autism Speaks, and A Child’s Place.

Airheart Explorer Launches

Airheart Explorer Launches to Help Consumers Navigate Complicated Travel Restrictions & Policies

CLICK TO TWEET: Airheart Explorer launches to help navigate travel restrictions domestic and abroad, so people can travel with confidence: Airheart Explorer

Airheart unveiled their free tool, Explorer, to help people travel again, safely. Travelers can now discover which destinations are accessible and what’s required for their trip, all through one user-friendly platform.

Now more than ever, navigating restrictions and policies for travel is overwhelming. Crowd-sourcing information from friends and family online and visiting countless tourism or government sites is a lot of work and highly error prone. Airheart eliminates the guesswork, so people can travel with confidence.

Airheart’s data is aggregated from official sources by our data partners, including Sherpa. Then, Airheart further distills and organizes it into a searchable, scannable, easy to understand format, to put travelers at ease when navigating what’s required of them.

Key Features:

  1. Discover which destinations – international and domestic – are accessible for travel based on your origin location prior to the booking engine phase where you need to be destination specific.
  2. View government policies and COVID19-risk data for your destination.
  3. Filter by what’s required of you – quarantine, COVID19 test, masks in public (and soon by your vaccination status).
  4. Receive notification when policies and restrictions change.
  5. See COVID19 transmission rates per destination.
  6. View local guidelines for what to expect on-location at bars, restaurants, shops and more.
  7. Pin routes and create a short-list of places on your wish list.

The three founders diligently focus on maximizing the user experience. The team is also extremely well-traveled, multi-passport carriers and currently straddling multiple continents – the US to Australia – to bring this to consumers worldwide.

“As seasoned travelers, we found this problem so critical that we dropped everything to work on solving it for the community. Our long-term vision is to create a place for organizing and managing the full lifecycle of a trip, starting with discovery using Airheart Explorer,” said co-founder and CEO, Lindsey Renken. “In a world where we’ve optimized our lives heavily, planning travel is still an inefficient process. We noticed our friends and colleagues experiencing similar issues, and ultimately, this kept a lot of trips from happening. We figured there has to be a better way than the status quo.”

Airheart is where deep product and engineering knowledge meets function. The team’s experience has been pivotal in elevating Airheart Explorer beyond what’s on the market now:

  • Ivan Vanderbyl, CPO, who’s founded three companies, 2 exits; Former Sr. Director of Product Management at Tricentis; 14 years in software development and product management. He has lived and worked in 5 countries and traveled to over 30 countries.
  • Arie Litovsky, CTO, adds over 15 years of software development experience to the team. He most recently worked as a software developer at Facebook and Q&A site Stack Overflow. He’s traveled to over 20 countries while adding to his collection of 3 passports and 4 languages.
  • Lindsey Renken, CEO, is an experienced founder; previously raised nearly 1 mil. as a co-founder for a consumer-facing application. B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, UT Austin. Over 11 years in product, marketing and data science. She has traveled to 31 countries and counting, many of which were solo trips.

“Drawing on the intrepid explorer and fearless solo traveler Amelia Earhart, we hope to clear the path for future travelers,” said Renken.

Sometimes the journey is tough. So much so that as a result of the pandemic, I learned the hard way that people aren´t forever, but art is. Unfortunately, I’ve lost loved ones, I’ve even lost myself. Life, despite everything, is astounding and unexpected, and we must accept it as such. In these difficult events, painting was the only way I could cope with these tragic circumstances, and it has been quite an experience. So, in this collection, I´m taking the human form by a different approach. What does it mean? The rest is up to you.

Born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, Frida is an artist and architect. In her works, she experiments with a wide range of different techniques, especially oil on canvas. Her paintings can be described as abstract and colorful compositions. Frida’s work can be found on Instagram.

GALANTIS, DAVID GUETTA & LITTLE MIX RELEASE “HEARTBREAK ANTHEM”

EXPLOSIVE COLLABORATIVE SINGLE & MUSIC VIDEO OUT NOW VIA BIG BEAT RECORDS

WATCH “HEARTBREAK ANTHEM” VIDEO

STREAM “HEARTBREAK ANTHEM

Internationally-acclaimed collaborative project Galantis, superstar DJ/producer David Guetta & global pop superstars Little Mix have joined forces for new single “Heartbreak Anthem” – available now via Big Beat Records. The explosive collaboration arrives alongside a striking music video directed by Samuel Douek, who most recently teamed up with Little Mix for their buzzworthy “Confetti” visual last month. Contrary to its title, “Heartbreak Anthem” proves a declaration of resilience – fusing the jaunty productions of the powerhouse producers with the impeccable harmonies of the world’s biggest girl band.

“We’ve been working on ‘Heartbreak Anthem’ for over a year now! It started with just the chord progression at a studio in London right before the pandemic. As many collaborations have gone in these times, it was a remote work in progress for months, with stems sent back and forth from London to Los Angeles to Stockholm to Paris. We’d been talking with David about working together for a long time, and having Little Mix and their unique, strong vocals has made this one really special. Feels great to finally get this out into the world!” – Christian Karlsson (Galantis).

ABOUT GALANTIS:

Setting a new standard for songwriting in dance music, Galantis is a collaborative project led by Christian Karlsson (aka Bloodshy, one-third of Miike Snow). Galantis’ debut album Pharmacy reached No. 1 on the Billboard Dance album chart on the strength of RIAA gold certified single “Peanut Butter Jelly” and 2x platinum certified smash “Runaway (U & I)” – the latter of which earned GRAMMY nominations for “Best Dance Recording” and “Best Remixed Recording” – while 2017’s sophomore album The Aviary (featuring platinum certified single “No Money”) saw a top 10 debut in 23 countries. Most recently, the third Galantis album Church featured the chart-topping single “Faith” with country music icon Dolly Parton featuring Mr. Probz, which saw a #1 debut on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Chart before quickly reaching #1 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart where it remained for 5 weeks. Galantis has received over 4 billion cumulative worldwide streams, and over 1.5 billion video views to date.

The story of Galantis started back in 2009. Working as Bloodshy, Karlsson’s songwriting collaborations have included MadonnaKylie MinogueKaty Perry and Britney Spears (who’s “Toxic” earned a GRAMMY for “Best Dance Recording”). This collaborative nature led to the birth of the Galantis project which had its live debut at 2014’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and has continued on years later as one of dance music’s most dynamic and in-demand live performers.

ABOUT DAVID GUETTA:

There are artists and entertainers who achieve stardom and popularity, but few have the influence and endurance to redraw borders between genres and reshape the industry’s dynamics. In 2009, “When Love Takes Over,” the first single from his breakthrough album One Love hit #1 in the UK and the Guetta-produced Black Eyed Peas song “I Gotta Feeling” became a worldwide hit, topping the charts in 17 countries. Over the decade since, Guetta’s success has been off the charts. Globally, he’s racked up over 50 million record sales, whereas his total number of streams is over 10 billion. He has received numerous Platinum and Gold certifications, was named EDM Power Player by Billboard and won two GRAMMY Awards out of six nominations. Besides his hard-won DJ skills, he is prolific in the studio, working with superstar artists like MadonnaRihannaLady GagaSnoop DoggMartin GarrixUsherSiaJohn LegendNicki MinajSean PaulKelly RowlandAviciiNe-YoAkon and more.  His seventh studio album titled 7, included huge electronic pop tracks like “2U” with Justin Bieber, “Flames” with Sia, “Don’t Leave Me Alone” with Anne-Marie, “Goodbye” with Jason DeruloNicki Minaj and Willy William and “Say My Name” with J Balvin and Bebe Rexha plus a second disc of underground dance tracks, recorded under Guetta’s Jack Back alias. With his wide-reaching and game-changing approach, he is more than just a DJ and producer: he’s made dance music reach the mainstream, fused urban, electronic and pop music into new popular genres, and managed to stay on top of the game for decades.

ABOUT LITTLE MIX:

With over 60 million records sold, 10 billion global streams, over 5 billion YouTube views, 5 platinum albums, 5 UK number 1 singles, and over 2 million tickets sold Little Mix are officially the world’s biggest girl band. Since forming 10 years ago Little Mix have been an unstoppable force in British pop music. The recent album Confetti gave them their 6th top 5 album and included the number 1 single “Sweet Melody” which has just reached over 200 million streams worldwide. VEVO crowned them the Most Watched UK Act Of 2020 and the UK charts recently classed them as the Best-Selling Girl Group in UK History based on track sales. 2021 saw Little Mix make BRIT Award history as the first girl band ever to win Best British Group in its 43-year history.

Neymar Jr. × PUMA

NEYMAR JR’S OFF-PITCH STYLE GETS A WILD NEW LOOK

PUMA surprises with a new style to its popular Rider franchise, the Wild Rider. Neymar Jr’s favorite new shoe off-pitch was inspired by the movement and motion of city life.

PUMA ambassador Neymar Jr. is always pushing himself forward, making the Wild Rider the perfect shoe for his first major lifestyle campaign with PUMA. Not only is he known for his accolades on the pitch, but his style off the pitch also draws a lot of interest. As someone who is changing the game, he embodies the theme of the shoe, made to celebrate youth culture and mobility.

“As someone who loves streetwear, I was thrilled when PUMA approached me about being the face of a shoe outside of football,” said Neymar Jr. “You won’t take the Wild Rider off; I’ve been wearing it non-stop. É o meu favorito!”

This Wild Rider brings a whole new dimension to the Rider family, with fresh layers of material and futuristic circles at the midsole. Its premium design is inspired by the movement and motion of city life – always going forward, further, faster, and beyond.

“We consider the Rider family to be very much a constant evolving conversation; what started the Future Rider, which was very much linked to the Easy Rider II, has progressed into something that can stand on its own without being too obvious to the original inspiration,” says Danny Taylor, Design Lead Sportstyle Footwear. “With each release we are able to push the Rider product language forward, constantly evolving it season by season.”

The Wild Rider continues to play with PUMA’s futro design language. Taking archive inspiration from the Rider OG and elements from a ‘90s track spike, the design is a ‘collage’ of past and future melted together. The progressive design language of the Wild Rider includes unique design finishes like a formstrip that flows into a heel pull, “Designed by PUMA” emblazoned across the back, and the back of heel also juts out from a futro inspired accent, further playing on the idea of motion that serves as inspiration for the shoe. This drop features a nylon upper with suede overlays and a leather formstrip, along with TPU details on eyelet and heel and the signature Rider foam.

The Wild Rider, retailing for $100, will be releasing starting May 28 at select retailers, on PUMA and at the PUMA NYC Flagship store.

Best Places to Live × Work

The Best Places to Live and Work Abroad in 2021—InternationalLiving.com

While just about every country is willing to provide a tourist visa that lets visitors hang around for a few months, most will not grant permission to live and work within their borders without a job offer from a local employer. Some offer long-term residence visas that let expats legally live in the country, but they don’t typically allow for work. A new report from the editors at International Living highlights four countries where it’s possible to find easy access to a residence visa—and the permits that allow for work as well.

Source: International Living

It’s clear that an increasing number of Americans want a different life and are looking for countries where they can live and work legally. But the options are limited without a local employer willing to provide a job.

Expats able to earn from anywhere do have a few good options, however, according to International Living’s report. While a small collection of countries welcomes outsiders, who can qualify for the necessary visas, four in Latin America and Europe stand out as the best options in terms of cost, ease, and timing.

Panama

If your goal is to live and work remotely overseas, but remain close to U.S. borders, Panama is your best bet. Direct flights land in Panama City from at least nine U.S. cities and take between three and seven hours, depending on where you’re coming from.

Beyond proximity, Panama offers what it calls the Panama Friendly Nations Visa, a special program whereby nationals of certain countries (including the U.S. and Canada) can apply for permanent residence, which comes with a Panamanian cédula, the local ID card. That cédula is permanent, allowing holders to come and go as they please, as would a born-and-bred Panamanian. Separately, the program also allows holders to request a work permit through the Ministry of Labor, though that’s part of a different process.

Obtaining a temporary cédula takes about eight days. It will take another two days to obtain a multiple-entry visa that’s necessary so an individual can come and go as they wait out the roughly five-month process for the government to issue a permanent cédula. Once a cédula has been obtained, a person can then apply for a work permit from the Ministry of Labor, which will take about a month.

To start the cédula process, you’ll need basic documents—passport, proof from the FBI that there is no criminal record—and $5,000 in a Panamanian bank account, plus $2,000 for each dependent. And to obtain a work permit, then you’ll need to set up a Panamanian corporation (which can be disbanded after a year).

Uruguay

If speed is more important, then Uruguay is a great choice. Here, expats can land at the airport with the correct collection of documents, and if they already have a pre-scheduled filing date with the immigration office that day, they can file their paperwork and have a temporary cédula that afternoon or the next day. All that’s required is a birth certificate and an apostilled police record (meaning it has been authenticated and is acceptable across international borders). They will also need to show that they have the financial means to support themselves with a provable stream of income from anywhere in the world.

With a temporary cédula, they will also have immediate access to the state healthcare system, or they can immediately buy access with a local, private healthcare plan, which will cost about $70 to $350 a month, depending on the bell and whistles they want.

To manage the process themselves, expect to pay about $600 to $700. But they will also need to have a proficient level of Spanish, as none of the paperwork is in English. Otherwise, hire an attorney. It will be quicker and more efficient and will cost between $1,000 and $2,000.

Portugal

Portugal has two visas that would apply to someone wanting to live and work on the Iberian Peninsula: D2 and D7. Technically, the D2 is for independent workers and entrepreneurs, while the D7 is for those who are retired or earning passive income. In practical terms, the D7 will make sense for most people, even if they’re not retired, because it’s based on income. The D2 requires proof that an expat can support themselves as a freelancer and can begin issuing Portuguese invoices on which the business will be taxed, though the tax rate is fixed at 20% for 10 years.

With the D7, instead, a person will need only to show that they have €8,000 (about $9,700) per person in a Portuguese bank account and that they have the equivalent of €30,000 ($36,400) in a bank account back in their home country.

To apply for either a D2 or D7 visa, an expat must enroll in the Portuguese tax system and become a tax resident. That requires obtaining a Portuguese tax number before they can even apply for a visa. And for that, they will need a sponsor, which can be a law office, accounting office, or migration office.

For that reason, they’ll need to hire a pro to walk them through the process and be their sponsor for the tax number. All in, that will cost you between €1,000 and €2,500 (about $1,200 to $3,000). The process will require two to four months to complete.

As a freelancer, an expat will also want to apply for Non-Habitual Resident status, or NHR, which is issued to people who’ve never lived in Portugal before and move to the country. With NHR status, income earned outside the country is exempt from taxes. They will have to file a Portuguese tax return and declare the income, though they’ll owe no taxes on it. The other benefit of this is that it shows Uncle Sam they’re a tax resident of another country, which then helps trigger their eligibility for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.

A person is eligible to apply for Portuguese citizenship and a passport after five years of residence, though they have to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the Portuguese language.

Czech Republic

It’s a two-step process in Czech Republic. First step: apply to join the živnostensky (zivno) list. This isn’t specifically for foreigners. It’s a trade license for any Czech resident who works independently, be that a plumber, masseuse, artist, or whoever. That will take a week at most. Zivno in hand, they can then apply for a one-year, temporary residence visa.

They must apply for a residence visa at a Czech embassy outside of the Czech Republic, show they have housing (a notarized lease agreement) for the full-length of the visa they seek, up to one year. That means they’ll need to visit the Czech Republic to arrange that. Some expats will move to Prague, obtain their housing and zivno, then take the train to nearby embassies in Berlin, Vienna, or Bratislava and complete their application.

They will need a signed letter from their bank stating that they have the equivalent of 125,000 Czech crowns on deposit (about $5,700). That will need to be translated into Czech, which a visa agency can handle. Be sure the account has a debit card, which must be presented at the application meeting at the Czech embassy, because officials will want to see it—it’s proof that a person can access the account.

An FBI criminal background check is required, though as an American an expat can also go to the U.S. embassy in Prague and sign an affidavit attesting to their criminal-free background. Along with a passport and an application form, that’s pretty much all the documents an applicant needs.

To hire a local agency to help with the process, it should cost less than 15,000 crowns (about $685) for everything. The embassy fee is a separate 5,000 crowns (about $230).

Once the temporary visa expires after a year, it can easily be traded in for a renewable, two-year long-term residence visa. After five years as a legal resident, a person is eligible to apply for Czech citizenship and a Czech passport, which like the Portuguese passport, is an EU passport and thus gives them free rein to live and work anywhere in the EU.

Graham × Brown

This February, UK-based wallpaper and paint company, Graham & Brown, kicked off a year-long celebration of its 75th anniversary.  Founded in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1946 by childhood friends, Harold Graham and Henry Brown, this business has been family-run for 75 years, proving that quality craftsmanship, sustainable practices and innovative design always stands the test of time.

As part of Graham & Brown’s 75th anniversary they have released a limited-edition “Through The Decades” collection that pays homage to the styles and tastes of the 1940s-2010. The full 8-piece collection is now available in the US + Canada.

An evocative tribute to the nostalgic, the Through the Decades collection reflects on the impact that each decade has had on home trends, and the ways in which wallpaper as a medium has embodied them.

As with every Graham & Brown wallpaper in the broader company collection, each Through the Decades design is paired with a complementary hero paint color as well as three coordinating hues to promote harmonious design and a synchronous living space.

A portion of the proceeds from this collection will be donated to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, an organization local to the brand’s US offices, a commitment made in lockstep with Graham & Brown’s pledge to raise £75,000 (about $105,000) for charities in 2021.
