Rolls-Royce Western

LA-based production company Valkyr Productions, led by director Jeremy Heslup, has created a short Western film with an automotive twist. For a brand with more than 100 years of history, the filmmaker saw a perfect opportunity to highlight the world’s most modern and luxurious SUV in a setting of more than century ago. As the “all-powerful stagecoach,” the Black Badge Rolls-Royce Cullinan plays a central character in the film, its tremendous presence and peerless luxury juxtaposed with disparity of life in the West. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars saw this as a great opportunity to showcase the Cullinan’s authentic capability in an unexpected setting.

The film, releasing digitally, has been selected by the 2022 International Motor Film Awards in the Best Drama Short Category. The release is accompanied by a comprehensive Behind the Scenes film as well as stills by renowned professional photographer Webb Bland.

The narrative short film, supported by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America, who provided the 2022 Black Badge Cullinan to the film production, was shot over 4 days at the beautiful Yellowstone Film Ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana. The film, intended as a narrative and commercial statement piece, grew in scope with the inclusion of the Cullinan. Self-funded by Valkyr with over 30 cast and 30 crew attached to the project, both local and out of town, the nimble production sought to squeeze the most value out of the opportunity as possible.

“From the narrative side, I hope people see a story that is identifiable within the Western genre; from the commercial side, I hope people see a fresher, more purposeful take on motivating how the car is used in the story.” – writer/director Jeremy Heslup The ensemble cast is led by Claudine Quadrat (Ant Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, Mank) playing Isabel, the true gunslinger masquerading as a saloon girl. The film also features Jarrett Worley (Yellowstone, Daredevil) as the Gunslinger, and Montana natives Joe Wayne (History’s Mysteries) as the Man in Black and Cory Birkenbuel (Two Yellow Lines) as the Second in Command.  And of course, Black Badge Cullinan makes it screen debut as, The Stagecoach.

Shot by Director of Photography Joe Victorine (Netflix’s My Heroes Were Cowboys) on Alexa Mini LF with Cooke Anamorphic SF FF lenses from Adorama Rentals in New York, the 4-day production was divided into 2 days on the narrative Western scenes and 2 days on the car-related scenes. A chase vehicle captured the Cullinan’s pursuit of the gang’s horses, a drone followed for an aerial sequence, and Filmlites Montana provided equipment for picture car rigging.

Carter Boehm and Richard Gray, co-founders of Yellowstone Film Ranch (Murder at YellowstoneThe Old Way), provided usage of the newly constructed set as well various other locations in the surrounding Paradise Valley for filming. Replica firearms from ISS Props were shipped from Los Angeles to ensure safety. A nimble grip package, provided by gaffer Adam Hutsell of Summit Lighting, executed the lighting. Post-production was finished with color by Parker Jarvie of Company 3 Los Angeles and an original score by Julian Cisneros.

ULYSSE NARDIN’S NEW VERSION

Ulysse Nardin celebrates the Geneva Watch Days with two new versions of its LADY DIVER 39 mm and BLAST TOURBILLON 45 mm timepieces, both inspired by the iridescent rainbow colors of silicium. Always a pioneer, in 2001 the brand was the first watchmaker to introduce a timepiece with silicium escapement components – and the Freak was born, alongside contemporary watchmaking. Since then, Ulysse Nardin has incorporated this metalloid into several of its movements, including the BLAST TOURBILLON’s caliber UN-172 and the LADY DIVER’s caliber UN-816. Inspired by the shimmering colors of this revolutionary material, the bezels of these two new models are adorned with purple, green, blue or pink gemstones that sparkle in the sunlight for a “rainbow” effect. Usually associated with cheerfulness and joy, this multicolored trend guarantees a young and fun style.

BLAST RAINBOW

The BLAST bears its name well. The skeleton “X” dial’s complex and geometric forms on this imposing 45mm timepiece with a micro-rotor in platinum placed at 12 o’clock simply blow-up traditional watch design. To soften the look, a total of 50 rubies and sapphire baguette gemstones adorn the bezel and the indexes of this BLAST RAINBOW, making this timepiece sexy and powerful on any wrist.

Water resistant to 50 meters and driven by an automatic flying tourbillon, the BLAST is powered by the UN-172 caliber movement with Silicium technology (escapement wheel, anchor & balance spring) enclosed in a black DLC titanium case and sealed with a black ceramic polished and sandblasted upper case. This limited edition of 50 timepieces promises 72 hours of power reserve and comes with a waterproof velvet rubber strap or a black alligator strap, together with a black DLC titanium and black ceramic self-deploying buckle, at a price of 85’000 CHF.

LADY DIVER RAINBOW

The new LADY DIVER RAINBOW – in black or white – is the next generation of the 2019 LADY DIVER but with eye-catching, dazzling decorative touches. Forty stones (ruby, aquamarine, topaz, tsavorite and sapphire) are set on the concave unidirectional bezel of this new watch, catching the light no matter how deep the dive. Eleven diamonds serving as indexes increase the scintillating effect of the watch and bring a touch of elegance to this sublime diving watch.

The young and sportive 39mm LADY DIVER RAINBOW, water resistant to 300 meters, is the incarnation of a utilitarian timepiece designed to reach the depths of the world’s oceans with beauty, grace, and the highest functionality. The UN-816 automatic movement with Silicium technology is the beating heart of each DIVER watch, keeping track of the hours, minutes, seconds, and date.

Both white and black LADY DIVER RAINBOW models come in a limited edition of 300 timepieces each on a white or black structured rubber strap, at a price of 12’900 CHF.

SILICIUM REVOLUTION

Since the early 2000s, silicium has become the most promising material for watchmaking. Anthracite with bluish metallic reflections in its raw state, the silicium has exceptional properties: totally non-magnetic, it is light and elastic without ever deforming. Its high resistance to corrosion and its durability do not alter with time. It requires no lubrication thanks to a silicium dioxide layer that hardens and stabilizes the parts and makes them insensitive to thermal variations. Therefore, Ulysse Nardin uses silicium to manufacture the regulating organs of all its timepieces, including the balance spring.

Sigatec, an affiliate of Ulysse Nardin based in Sion, Switzerland, is specialized in silicium micromechanical components and creates custom-made pieces, with micron-level precision. The silicium used by Sigatec comes in the form of a wafer, a disk about 15 centimeters in diameter and only a few tenths of a millimeter thick, carved out of a silicon crystal ingot, and produced synthetically by smelters. The wafer necessitates a particular process in order to be formed into the desired components, which represents the know-how of Sigatec: the DRIE. The Deep Reactive Ion Etching (DRIE) process is a revolutionary, hybrid technological combination of photography and 3D etching. It has claimed its pole position in watchmaking in just a decade.

JANET VAN DYNE IN WASP COMIC

Since the very dawn of the Marvel super hero age, Janet Van Dyne has enchanted comic book fans as the founding Avenger known as the Wasp! Now, after 60 years of being a super hero and fashion icon, the character will headline a new four-issue limited series!

Arriving in January, WASP will be written by superstar Marvel mastermind Al Ewing and drawn by Kasia Nie, known for her acclaimed work on titles like Mockingbird and Age of Conan: Belit. Like Ewing’s hit Ant-Man series currently on stands, WASP will pay tribute to Janet’s incredible legacy by shedding new light on her wild Silver Age origin, spotlighting her relationship with protégé Nadia Van Dyne, and paving the way for a bright future! The saga will also directly lead into another Ewing-penned series launching in the new year!

After countless Avengers missions, earth-shattering battles, and fabulous costumes, Janet Van Dyne is ready to start a new chapter in her legendary super hero career! But as she sets out to change up her role within Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, a villain from her past rises out of the shadows to ruin all she’s worked for. Joined by Nadia Van Dyne, Janet and Nadia team up against a dangerous new organization with shocking connections to both their histories. As the threat grows more urgent, Janet and Nadia will face a test so great that they may become the very thing they fear most…

“The Ant-Man series was a whole lot of fun and gave me a new appreciation for Janet Van Dyne and her world – and when I went digging into her past, there was a whole story there just waiting to be unearthed,” Ewing explained. “If you weren’t a fan of the Wondrous Wasp before – not to mention her adopted daughter Nadia Van Dyne – you will be when we’re done!”

“I’m super excited to work with Al and rest of the team on this anniversary tribute to Wasp,” Nie added. “I love Janet, she’s one of my favorite Marvel characters—a mature person with an uneasy past, a successful woman and the best mom to Nadia. She’s unstoppable.”

Check out two of Tom Reilly’s main covers for the series, following the same bold design as his beloved covers for the Ant-Man series, and get swept away in Janet Van Dyne’s new era when WASP #1 arrives in January! For more information, visit Marvel.com.

BLUEBUCKSCLAN – I GUESS

On August 26, Los Angeles rap duo BlueBucksClan drop their smooth new single “I Guess.” via Out The Blue Records/Capitol Records. “I Guess” will be off their forthcoming mixtape Clan Way 3 out October 7thPre-save Clan Way 3 HERE. Accompanying the track is a New York-set video which, despite transplanting the buzzing duo to the opposite coast, finds the MCs DJ and Jeeezy Obama perfectly in their element. Watch it HERE.

Since their emergence three years ago, BlueBucksClan have been at the forefront of L.A. rap’s new wave, trading jokes, threats, and flexes in flows that first seem like off-the-cuff conversations before revealing their sly rhythmic complexity. “I Guess” preserves that sense of unpredictability, even in a package that is outwardly calmer. The dreamlike beat, courtesy of Ten11 and AyyMook, is a tantalizing canvas for the rappers. The song’s video, directed by KLO Vizionz, sees Jeeezy Obama and DJ trekking through New York City late at night.

In other news, yesterday the one and only Drake called BlueBucksClan “Two goats getting bars off” on their fire in the booth freestyle. Watch it HERE.

On “I Guess” The duo’s typically conversational flows pierce through the fog. When DJ raps, “Felon in the driver seat, I ain’t got no chauffeur,” it sounds more like a wry statement of fact than something meant to intimidate. Later, when Jeeezy Obama says his $20,000 guest verse fee doesn’t guarantee he’ll post the song, you understand that it’s not open for discussion. The rising hitmakers are simply telling it like it is.

I Guess” is the latest entry in a hot streak for the rappers. It arrives on the heels of “FYM” and “Just Hit Me,” a pair of singles that showcases BlueBucksClan at their best. These tracks were preceded by See the Difference and Clan Virus 2, projects that cemented the chemistry that propelled them into the spotlight and led Complex and Billboard to herald them as “Rappers to Watch.” Now, as they release “I Guess,” it’s clear that they’re the standard-bearers for a new generation of Los Angeles greats. To date the duo has amassed nearly 200 million streams in the U.S. alone.

BlueBucksClan are bringing their infectious bars to the stage. The guys are currently on a north American tour with fellow west coast rapper OHGEESY, which includes stops in Chicago, Reno, Vancouver, and more.
