Hendrick’s Gin saves the Rarest Cucumbers

Hendrick’s, The Gin Famously Infused with Rose and Cucumber, has Scoured the Planet to Find and Cultivate Some of the World’s Most Unusual Cucumbers

Hendrick’s, the world’s most unusual gin, has brought some of the rarest and peculiar cucumbers from around the globe back from the brink of extinction and made them available for the masses. An unprecedented delight to the senses, this noble endeavor will invite lovers of food and drink to satisfy their curiosity and taste a bounty of otherworldly cucumbers via the exclusive Hendrick’s Curious Cucumber Collection from Farmer Jones Farm at The Chef’s Garden, available now for pre-order delivery nationwide at Farmerjonesfarm.com

Hendrick’s Gin and cucumbers have always been and will always be inextricably bound. Since its inception, Hendrick’s has championed all that is curious, unexpected and unique. In fact, the gin began as a rarity itself due to its unusual but delightful infusions of rose, and of course, cucumber. “You could say I have a healthy obsession with cucumbers, they truly are quite fascinating fruits,” said Hendrick’s Master Distiller Ms. Lesley Gracie. “When we were first developing Hendrick’s, experimenting with cucumbers and figuring out how to get that curious cooling sensation into a gin was a big moment in
my career. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing so many diverse and wonderful varieties of cucumber in different parts of the world. The chance to cultivate some of the more peculiar styles on the brink of extinction has been an extremely fun and welcomed challenge.”

Ms. Lesley Gracie worked with Professor Lenore Newman, one of North America’s foremost experts in agriculture, to identify multiple varieties of rare cucumber species scattered across the globe, from the vast African plains to the mist-shrouded foothills of Asia. Through no small effort on the part of Hendrick’s Gin and renowned farm partners, The Chefs Garden (Huron, OH) and MX Morningstar Farm (Hudson, NY), these glorious fruits have been saved from extinction and are ready to share with the world in their freshest, most imbebible forms. “As someone who has devoted my career to the discovery and preservation of rare fruits and vegetables, I can say with conviction that what Hendrick’s has done for these cucumbers is a tremendous scientific accomplishment,” said Newman, PhD & Director of the Food and Agriculture Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley. The author of three books on food, Lenore advises the British Columbia government on
agricultural policy and the impact of climate change on food security. “These seeds represent a microscopic amount of the global cucumber population and without this project, they remained in danger. It’s remarkable to see them restored to such great scale, and it’s such a joy for people to now be able to taste these marvelous fruits.”

The various seeds were sourced from across the globe after months of academic research and meticulously
cultivated in greenhouses across North America and Europe.

The Six Rare Cucumbers

  • The highly curious Cucamelon (Melothria scabra) is cultivated as a minor crop in Mexico and
Central America, and very rarely experienced elsewhere. Flavors are similar to a cucumber, yet
sweeter and citrus-like, with an uncanny exterior resemblance to a mini-watermelon.
  • Particularly unusual in appearance donning a peculiar mix of bright orange & green with
horn-like spikes, the African Horned (Cucumis metuliferus) is a close relative of our beloved
cucumber that primarily grows wild and in local gardens across southern Africa, carrying
delightful notes of melon, kiwi, banana and citrus.
  • The Hmong Red (Cucumis sativus) is grown by the Hmong people in intimate gardens
adorning the mountains of Northern Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Myanmar, where upon
maturation, this miraculous fruit transitions in color from a pale green to a golden orange, and
    offers a tart flavor.
  • The Aonaga Jibai (Cucumis sativus), a treasured family gem from the island of Kyushu, Japan,
can only be found in the quaint town of Beppu, where it’s known for its unusually long and
narrow shape and splendidly sweet taste.
  • Only found tucked away in the country of Bhutan, the Gagon Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is
quite distinct – as it matures, it shifts from containing the characteristics of a common cucumber
    to marvelous honeydew.
  • Generally unknown outside of Eastern Europe, the ancient Muromsky Cucumber (Cucumis
sativus) is oddly covered in black spikes and prized for its pleasant scent, crunchy texture, and
    punchy flavor.

Thousands of these peculiar cucumbers have been cultivated globally and are available in the United States via an exclusive Curious Cucumber Collection from Farmer Jones Farm at The Chef’s Garden. With a plethora of culinary and cocktail uses, these atypical yet delicious cucumbers come in a farm-fresh variety pack for $48, with no one box the same based on harvest at the time of order.

Among the first to experiment with these extraordinary fruits, Hendrick’s National Ambassador, Vance Henderson, tasted and tested to his delight in order to create a cocktail experience unlike any on earth. “Experimenting with these rare cucumbers was not only a pleasure, but an exploration in itself and a welcomed creative challenge,” says Henderson. “One of our favorite creations, The Cutecumber Lemonade, is an ode to our popular Hendrick’s Cucumber Lemonade with one-of-a-kind notes of citrus from the Cucamelon that beautifully compliment our delicious and refreshing gin and mixes well with the unusual.”

The Cutecumber Lemonade – Ingredients

  • 1.5 parts Hendrick’s Gin
  • .75 part Fresh Cucamelon Juice, Strained
  • .75 part Fresh Lemon Juice
  • .75 part Simple Syrup
  • Top with Premium Soda Water
  • 1 Cucamelon and 1 Lemon Wheel to Garnish

Method: Combine all ingredients in a highball glass filled with cubed ice and lightly stir. Garnish with 1 whole Cucamelon speared between 1 lemon wheel and serve.

Leonora Carrington Tequila Decanter

BLOCKBAR.COM ANNOUNCES 1800® TEQUILA AS ITS FIRST EVER TEQUILA TO GO ON AUCTION

To Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, BlockBar Will Exclusively Auction an Extra-Rare Vintage of 1800 Colección Tequila, Custom-Designed Decanter by Renowned Artist Leonora Carrington, a Once-in-a-Lifetime Invitation to the Birthplace of Tequila and a Tour of Leonora Carrington’s Exclusive Art Collection in Tequila, Mexico .

Exciting news – to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, 1800 Tequila & BlockBar are exclusively auctioning an extra-rare vintage of 1800 Colección Tequila with an accompanying custom-designed decanter by renowned artist Leonora Carrington at a starting bid of $25,000 HERE

Today, 1800 Tequila, the world’s most awarded tequila, will release its first ever NFT corresponding to a bottle of its coveted 1800 Colección Tequila, one of the rarest tequilas in the world. 1800 Tequila worked closely with celebrated surrealist artist Leonora Carrington, prior to her passing, to curate a unique decanter titled “El Rey del Tequila” complementing 1800 Colección rare extra añejo tequila. Carrington created only 15 of these silver-sculpted masterpieces fifteen years ago; never released for public sale. Now only one of these prized decanters is available for the first time as an ultra-exclusive collectible with a starting bid of USD $25,000 exclusively on BlockBar.com, the world’s first DTC NFT marketplace for luxury wines and spirits.

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, 1800 Tequila will be the first ever tequila to auction on BlockBar.com. Ownership of the NFT includes the “El Rey del Tequila” (2009) Leonora Carrington-designed decanter accompanied by a bottle of 1800 Colección Tequila. The buyer will be invited to visit Jalisco, Mexico for a private tequila tasting at La Rojeña distillery, Latin America’s oldest distillery and the birthplace of tequila. They will also tour Leonora’s Carrington’s exclusive art collection showcasing her connection to the heritage of 1800 Tequila and allowing for a complete immersion in the land that inspired both Carrington and 220 years of 1800 Tequila quality and tradition.

“We’re delighted to mark Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting our first ever tequila auction with the iconic 1800 Tequila,” comments Dov Falic, Co-Founder and CEO of BlockBar. “1800 Tequila has a history of partnering with world-renowned artists and this unique, never-made-available-before decanter designed by surrealist artist Leonora Carrington makes this auction highly desirable for tequila and art lovers alike.”

1800 Colección Tequila celebrates excellence in taste, in both tequila and in art, with past vintages having been paired with decanters custom-designed by renowned creators including Gary Baseman, Bosco Sodi and Hector Velazquez Ortus. As a first for luxury collectors worldwide, this year the brand is releasing one exclusive, limited-edition 1800 Colección Tequila vintage aged in ex-single malt whiskey casks from the United Kingdom as a nod to Leonora Carrington’s birthplace. As a deep-rooted Mexican heritage brand, 1800 Tequila commissioned Leonora Carrington, widely considered one of the most important artists in Mexico during the 20th century, to design a unique decanter complementing the ultra-rare liquid of 1800 Colección Tequila. The British surrealist artist was such an admirer of the agave plant and the liquid derived from it after arriving in Mexico in the 1940’s, that she designed “El Rey del Tequila” (“The King of Tequila”) decanter as a tribute. To be paired with the corresponding bottle of 1800 Colección Tequila, the silver sculpture is infused with amorphous characteristics intrinsic to her work, reflecting the fascinating magic of the heart of the agave.

Only produced and released in the finest years of production, 1800 Colección Tequila is the pinnacle of liquid superiority and a result of a delicate artisan process meticulously supervised by Master Distiller Alejandro Coronado, who creates a special balanced blend between it and the finest aged tequila reserves. 1800 Colección Tequila begins with the selection of the highest-quality agaves that have reached optimum maturity. Following 1800 Tequila tradition, the agaves are steam cooked for several days in stone ovens obtaining a very selected extract, which is then distilled twice, followed by several years of slow aging in ex-single malt whiskey casks. The result is an exquisite, distinctively aged extra añejo tequila with a silky consistency, deep golden color and smooth mellow taste with a subtle touch of caramel, honey and almond that is one of the finest vintages in existence – numbered, limited and certified.

“Always at the forefront of culture, 1800 Tequila partnered with BlockBar to release its first NFT to bring the centuries-old tequila-making tradition to a new audience who appreciates luxury spirits and unique, high-value art,” says Lander Otegui, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Proximo Spirits. “A decades-long champion and benefactor of art and culture, 1800 Tequila will contribute 50% of the proceeds from the 1800 Colección Tequila NFT sale directly back to the Council of Leonora Carrington for preservation of various collections including drawings, sculptures and textiles. With a new generation of luxury spirits drinkers and art collectors, this will be the first of many 1800 Colección Tequila NFTs to come.”

1800 Colección “El Rey del Tequila” bottle and decanter will be auctioned off with a starting bid of USD $25,000 from 10:00am EST on Monday, September 12th, ending at midnight on Thursday, September 15th. Bids can be placed via BlockBar.com and payment may be submitted via ETH, credit card or wire transfer. To make a bid using ETH you must have the funds in your wallet and be connected to BlockBar. At midnight, the winning bidder has two hours to submit the full balance. Full terms and conditions may be found on BlockBar.com. Bidders planning on using wire transfer must pre-approve the funds by going to BlockBar.com, selecting payment method under the profile icon on the top right of the screen and clicking payment methods, and select “verify funds” for pre-approval. The user who successfully checks out will receive an NFT representing ownership of the Leonora Carrington “El Rey del Tequila” decanter and corresponding bottle of 1800 Colección Tequila, which is stored with BlockBar until the bottle owner is ready to redeem. Colombian rising powerhouse twins, Laura and Lucia, better known as Las Villa are releasing a fun and contagious single titled, “Amor y Sal” under Warner Music Latina. The single and its official music video are now available on all digital platforms.

“Amor y Sal” was written by Las VillaLuis Salazar and Essa Gante, and produced by Luis Salazar and Andy Clay and tells the overall story of what the process is like and the frustration one experiences when seeking true love as it can be a bit bitter and at times sweet. The lyrics for this single are not only based on a personal story but also from a spectator’s viewpoint as this situation is experienced by millions at all times.

“Amor y Sal” is a song that basically talks about love stories in general, seeing how these are formed and eventually disappear, suddenly they emerge and then they are shipwrecked.  The song talks about the frustration of realizing from the beginning that it wasn’t going to work out and that it always ends up falling apart halfway,” commented Las Villa in reference to the single.

The music video, directed by Diego Ante and shot in the city of Bogota, takes place mostly inside a train, narrating from an imaginary world the different stops which symbolize the stages that life presents us with and the people we meet during those stages.

“The video tells the story of this every day that is happening in parallel and happens to many people where we live in a constant movement and meet many people and learn different from many people, where we fall in love and fall out of love,” said Las Villa about the music video.

Recently, Las Villa were one of the main acts Spotify’s first all-female festival in Colombia, EQUAL Festival. Laura and Lucia’s return to the stage after the pandemic was epic. For their comeback they invited Luis Jimenez from Lagos to sing their smash hit “Cuerno”. Of course, “Nadita” and “Balada para Perrear” were part of their tracklist, giving an unforgettable show to their fans who did not stop singing their songs throughout the show.

The Rings of Power

All about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the long-awaited series that premieres this year

Five years have passed since the news thrilled and surprised all Tolkien fans by equal measure. The secrecy surrounding the project all this time has only increased anticipation and enthusiasm. Finally, the time has come: the premiere of the series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

A crazy budget, an overwhelming display of special effects, and a story that promises to delight fans and characters, both known and new, will surely conquer laptops, televisions, and smartphones worldwide.

Middle Earth returns. Amazon Prime Video, the streaming platform for the series, relies on the sequel to The Lord of the Rings to get many more viewers and new users as it is looking for self-propelled and robust content to entice people to subscribe.

“An ensemble cast of characters—some familiar and some new—must deal with the reappearance of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of Lindon, from the island realm of Numenor to the farthest reaches of the map, these places and characters will forge legacies that will endure beyond their demise,’’ Amazon Prime said.

The Spanish film director, Juan Antonio Bayona, directs the first two chapters of this blockbuster, the most expensive in history and for which it is estimated that the streaming platform has disbursed more than 700 million dollars in its first season, including the acquisition of its production and rights. The result is a visually spectacular glory fantasy.

What Tolkien book were they based on to create the series?

Unlike the Lord of the Rings films or the Hobbit spin-off trilogy, Rings of Power isn’t based on a specific book. The series will not focus on most of the beloved characters from the original trilogy, as it predates its time. Considering that each era covers about a thousand years, it is surprising that the characters coincide. You won’t see Bilbo, Legolas, Frodo, or Aragorn in the series, but there are some repetitive characters, although they are much younger than we already know.

When and where to see it?

The first two chapters arrive on Prime Video on September 1. The rest will be released at the rate of one per week.

What story will The Rings of Power tell?

From what we understand, we will see how the 20 rings of power are forged: seven for the dwarves, three for the elves, nine for the Men, and one for Sauron, whom we will surely see gain the power that makes him the terrible opponent that we know. You can watch the series now by clicking HERE.

The story about The Lord of the Rings:

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

449,477 people visited the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao between June and August in what was the best summer in its history

Summer 2022 was the Museum’s most successful since it opened, with a total of 449,477 visitors, attesting to the Museum’s recovery in the wake of the pandemic, in the year of its 25th anniversary. August was the standout month, with 195,411 people and a daily average of 6,297 visitors, surpassing by 7.4% (13,406 people) what had been the best August to date, that of 2018, with 182,005 visitors.

In turn, the months of June and July, with 106,136 and 147,930 visitors respectively, were the second best in the Museum’s history, after 2018. The summer week with the most visitors was from August 8 to 14, with 50,434 people, although the day with the highest numbers was Thursday August 18, with 8,800 visitors.

In terms of geographical origin, 65% of summer visitors came from outside of Spain (similar to the years prior to the pandemic), with large numbers of French visitors, who account for 18% of the total, followed by people from Germany (7%), the Netherlands (7%), the United Kingdom (6%) and Italy (5%).

Ten per cent of the total number of summer visitors were from the Basque Country, thus confirming the success of the exhibition Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture among local residents, followed by those from Catalonia (5%) and Madrid (5%).

As of August 31, the cumulative number of 776,752 visitors constitutes 3% less than the same period in 2019 and 7% less than in 2018, due to the lower number of visitors during the first few months of the year.

Motion

One of the key reasons for the strong summer season was, without a doubt, the opportunity to enjoy Motion. Autos, Art, Architecture, an exhibition exploring the artistic dimension of the automobile, which ends on September 18. Due to the great success of the exhibition sponsored by Iberdrola and the Volkswagen Group, the Museum decided several weeks ago to extend its opening hours so that people who have not yet been able to visit or who wish to enjoy the experience all over again can do so between 9 am and 8 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and from 9 am to 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Priced at $999, the ENGWE is an affordable option, furnished with essential e-bike features. The Engwe EP-2 PRO Electric Bike will be delivered FREE, within 3-5 business days to the US, EU and UK Mainland.

360 MAGAZINE had the opportunity to test out the ENGWE EP-2 Pro e-bike in the concrete jungle. Please read below to find out what we thought about this practical e-bike.

Curb Appeal

Coming in at 70lbs, the ENGWE EP-2 Pro sports a conveniently foldable frame for optimal storage. Though this e-bike is heavier than other models, it offers an easy daily commute.

Available in the colors Black, Dark orange and Slate gray, the design of the e-bike is sleek and unisex. Structured with distinct and sharp lines throughout, the ENGWE carries a modern and universal sense that would adorn many.

Design

The original ENGWE comes furnished with 20 x 4.0 all-terrain tires to tackle varying landscapes. At 360, we swapped out those tires for a puncture-proof option, and acquired a saddle seat for the e-bike. The new tires were puncture-proof and withstood potholes that encompass the city.

The neck of the ENGWE can be adjusted according to passenger height with leather handlebars. The 48v 13Ah lithium battery is hidden with the suitable design of the e-bike in the battery compartment. To ensure further safety of the battery, the ENGWE made the compartment locks with a supplied key. An electric bell is, too, included with the ENGWE.

Technology

With a 5-level pedal assist, the ENGWE conforms to each passengers riding style with assistance from the LCD display screen. The 12.8 Ah battery fully charges within 5-6 hours and can be charged on the go with the charging port.

The 48 V front ambient light illuminates your pathway with bright and prominent rays. The mechanical breaks sport rear lights, sparking up when you begin to slow down.

Performance

The enhanced 750W motor is the star of the ENGWE show. The e-bike exhibits top speeds of up to 28 miles per hour, and ranges around 50 miles while in route. With easy torque customizability, passengers have the option to increase or decrease their torque.

MADE IN AMERICA‘S CAUSE VILLAGE, POWERED BY SHEIN, GIVES FESTIVAL-GOERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE CHANGEMAKERS VIA 21 ON-SITE PHILANTHROPIC ORGANIZATIONS

The Philanthropic Hub Returns for the Tenth Year featuring REFORM Alliance, Share Food Program, Dare 2 Hope, and more

The highly anticipated JAY-Z curated two-day festival (Sept 3-4), Made in America, announced the 21 philanthropic organizations participating in their annual social good hub, Cause Village Powered by SHEIN, today.

The music festival has held advocacy at its core since 2012, averaging 20,000 social actions taken each year. Organizations for the 2022 Cause Village focus on an array of causes, ranging from animal welfare, arts & culture, criminal & social justice reform, education, youth development, health & wellness, and voter rights, and more.

Cause Village has continued to make an impact on not only the Made in America festival and attendees, but in the greater Philadelphia community,” said Dania Diaz, Managing Director, Team Roc. “We are really looking forward to giving these Cause Village organizations another opportunity to be involved in this effort to engage and bring awareness to the issues that affect our everyday lives.”

This year marks Made in America‘s 10th year of performances, boasting a powerful and diverse lineup with headliners Bad Bunny and Tyler, The Creator. Since its inception, the festival has brought the biggest names in music and up-and-coming superstars to the City of Brotherly Love, while remaining rooted in the city’s culture. The festival has generated over $150 million in economic impact for the city of Philadelphia since its inception in 2012.

“Share Food Program is excited to be with Made in America this year as we’ll be able to share our goals with the rest of the Philadelphia community,” said George Matysik, Executive Director of Share Food Program. “We’re thrilled to be able to be involved in such an engaging environment as we’ll be able to form meaningful connections with other passionate people in the community.”

“We are looking forward to being present at the festival this year to raise awareness on breaking the stigmas surrounding mental health while promoting a healthy lifestyle,” said Sarah-Ashley Andrews, MS, Founder of Dare 2 Hope. “Music is a helpful tool in managing mental health and a positive way to build a solid foundation through hobbies and the connections we make along the way.”
