The two founders of LATE, Cate and Lalia, have been lifelong friends since the age of four. They’ve long shared joy in repurposing sample pieces and left over inventory from their parents, and have now taken their passion for fashion to create LATE Clothing LA. The brand’s name comes from part of both founder’s names, Lalia (LA) and Cate (TE). The girls had started out making clothes for their friends, and are now looking to take their business on a larger scale. By adding personal, unique touches to each of their pieces, wearers of LATE are sure to shine with distinctive, stylish flair.

When coronavirus struck, the girls were forced inside due to national stay-at-home orders that stymied the fast-paced LA environment with which they had been involved. Though the pandemic had originally halted the girls’ typically busy schedules, they were able to take advantage of the down time quarantine granted to involve themselves with new creative, DIY projects. Cate and Lalia used the stay at home opportunity to envision ideas of LATE clothing, and their creative inspiration and determination took the reins. That is, until October 22.

On that day, tragically, Lalia was involved in a serious accident that resulted in left side paralysis and brain damage. Her injuries placed her in critical condition for five days at the Cedars Sinia Hospital, before later being transferred to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. (CHLA) After recovering for a week, Lalia received a phone call from her friend and LATE Clothing co-founder, Cate. Despite Lalia’s condition, the two were both eager to begin planning for their brand. Now more than ever, the two founders of LATE looked at the future with more steadfast determination, passion, and excitement than ever before.

Amazingly, though her doctors had predicted a year-long stay in the hospital, Lalia’s recovery occurred much faster than expected. After only 61 days, Lalia was released from CHLA, eager to get back to creating clothing for LATE with Cate. During her stay at CHLA, Lalia’s desire to create kept her going each day and revealed a new meaning for LATE. Not only was Lalia given the opportunity to recover, but she was also granted the opportunity for her love of clothing, life, love, and friendship to flourish with newfound inspiration. The co-founders’ second chance at reinvigorating their clothing line with hope, will power, and gratitude was taken full advantage of in designing the brand’s first collection.

Thanks to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA), in which Lalia spent Lalia spent 44 days in in-patient rehab and continues outpatient therapy at to this day, LATE Clothing LA was granted new life and meaning. Because of this, of every garment that is purchased from LATE Clothing LA’s collection, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles Rehab Department. The price of items in the collection ranges from $30­–$100. As a result of the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’ care and determination regarding Lalia’s recovery, the girls have decided to call their first LATE collection: “Responders.” As the title suggests, the pieces within the collection honor, and are named after, the hospital staff and patients that impacted Lalia’s miraculous recovery. The two girls express gratitude for those who aided in Lalia’s recovery and in turn, the rebirth of LATE Clothing LA.

One of the aforementioned individuals who aided in Lalia’s recovery, and of whom a garment in LATE’S “Responders” collection is named after, is Perez. Perez was the first paramedic on scene for Lalia on the harrowing night of October 22. He is a Los Angeles Fire Department Station 97 paramedic. To this day, Lalia visits Perez at the fire station often and the two have been able to continue their friendly relationship.

Another instrumental person in Lalia’s recovery, of whom a LATE collection piece is named after, is Danielpour. He is the life-saving brain surgeon who phenomenally saved her life. Lalia’s family still ponders with the other medical staff at about how Danielpour so miraculously treated Lalia.

Dr. Parikh is the resident doctor at CHLA and one of Lalia’s biggest supporters during her darkest days. He has a genuine passion for his work, and his determination to help Lalia inspired her to begin to walk again. Even after his shift was over, Dr. Parikh would come visit Lalia. He would challenge her to play Monopoly Deal, if she could manage to stand up. He inspired Lalia to recognize the strength she already had within her, and encouraged her along every step of her recovery journey. Dr. Parikh would kindly skip his lunch to instead eat with and keep Lalia company every day.

Another resident at CHLA, Jack, was Lalia’s personal ball of sunshine. The two would hang out every Sunday, even though patients weren’t technically supposed to mingle. Jack and his dad would wheel around the hospital wing and provide entertainment and laughs for the other patients. Jack’s joy is infectious, and his glee would undoubtedly spread to Lalia when the two were together.

All-Terrain and Off-Highway Thrills Around Each Turn in Virginia City, Nevada 

The story of Virginia City’s boomtown history is an exciting tale of risk takers, bandits and daring opportunists. Today’s Virginia City is marked with historic charm, but the adventure-seeking spirit still lives in the hills – and a new gold mine of trails and tracks that provide for all-terrain off-road excursions. Located 22 miles from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, Virginia City and surrounding Gold Hill, Silver City and Dayton, are connected by old stagecoach roads, trails and expansive public lands. The mountainous high desert setting and open space is a playground for dirt biking, OHVs (Off Highway Vehicles), four-wheeling and off-road cycling.

50 Years of Full-Throttle Racing Heritage

The Virginia City Grand Prix is one of the largest and most competitive off-road motorcycles races in the west. The annual two-day event draws racers to the Comstock to battle the canyons and hills for glory and bragging rights. “Dust on the Comstock” documents Virginia City’s racing heritage, the difficult landscape and the challenge racers face each year. Once in Virginia City, cyclists can enjoy expansive views of the Carson Range, a pedal down historic C Street and stop at one of Virginia City’s many cafes and lunch spots.

Gravel and mountain bike riders can enjoy the same expansive OHV trails for an immersive off-road ride back in time. It’s easy for adventure cyclists to seek the road less traveled, discover cultural sites and witness mining artifacts, all while being comfortably close to the amenities of the nearby town. Martin Garrix and Maejor have signed with STMPD RCRDS/Hollywood Records for their collaborative project AREA21. The music of AREA21 follows a story arc of two alien travelers who are tripping through the cosmos and spreading a message of unity and good vibes when they accidentally come crashing to Earth. AREA21 continue their journey on planet earth with “Pogo”

Following the release of “La La La,” which has already surpassed over 5M combined streams, the adventures of AREA21 continue with today’s release of “Pogo.” The song exudes the feeling of being completely uninhibited, living life wild and free, which makes it the perfect soundtrack for the coming summer months. 1. In a saucepan on medium heat add 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar and 1 cucumber sliced.

2. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar has dissolved.

3. Bring to a simmer for 3 minutes.

4. Take off heat and allow it to steep for 15-20 minutes.

Hibiscus Smash

Relax and unwind with a cocktail that will take your tastebuds on a trip you will never want to return from. The freshness of cilantro and hibiscus leaves are a great compliment to the full and distinctive flavors of Santo Reposado. Don’t forget to double strain this cocktail for a smooth and refreshing drink you will want to enjoy all year round.

  • 2 oz Santo Reposado
  • 1 oz hibiscus tea
  • 1/2 oz agave
  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves with tender stems

1. Brew Hibiscus tea and let cool.

2. In a cocktail shaker with ice add tequila, hibiscus tea, agave, lime juice and fresh cilantro.

The Cheesecake Factory’s The Ultimate Margarita Recipe

Ingredients:

1 ½ oz. Tequila (It should be a 100% agave tequila. Blanco or Reposado is preferred)

½ oz. Cointreau Liqueur

½ oz. Grand Marnier Liqueur

1 oz. Agave Syrup (recipe below)

¾ oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

For Garnish:

Lime

Salt Rim (optional)

Instructions:

Add Tequila, Cointreau Liqueur, Grand Marnier Liqueur, Agave Syrup, and Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice to a cocktail shaker without ice.

Add ice to cocktail shaker and shake hard for 10-15 seconds.

Strain contents of the cocktail shaker into appropriately sized glass filled with fresh ice.

Garnish with a Lime Wedge. Squeeze lime over drink and drop on top.

Ogden’s Own, the largest independent distillery in Utah, is welcoming Pride Month 2021 with the release of a brand-new, special edition bottle of its Five Husbands Vodka – featuring five of Utah’s most influential and cherished members of the LGBTQ+ community on the label!

As part of Ogden’s Own’s commitment to celebrating Pride all year long, not just for one month, the new 2021 Five Husbands bottle will be available year-round. The “Five Husbands” featured on the label represent a broad range of professions and areas of expertise, but the common thread binding each Husband is that they are all Utah locals that are passionate about representing the LGBTQ+ community and spreading the message of inclusiveness on as large of a stage as possible. The 2021 Five Husbands are: Johnny Hebda, Troy Williams, Rob Moolman, Georgios Spiliopoulos, and CJ Hamblen.

The 2021 Five Husbands Vodka Pride bottle is officially available now at the Ogden’s Own Distillery store, with regional and online distribution slated to kick off before June. The bottle retails for $19.99 for a 750ml bottle and is 40% ABV (80 proof). Sales proceeds will go directly to Equality Utah and the Utah Pride Center, two charitable organizations that support the Utah LGBTQ+ community.

The Bodega

 On Saturday, June 12th btw 4PM-8PM, 360 Magazine will host our intimate immersive pop-up shop which will be reminiscent of a traditional Bronx Bodega. This po-up shop is a collaborative effort to elevate our brand’s priorities in popular culture and design (PC+D).

This boutique and private shopping experience will be held at the #360TRAP Bronx workspace. The event will feature #AOHSOA Trunk Pieces and lifestyle choices, specifically designed for consumers to live their best PC+D lifestyle.

The pop-up will possess a carnival theme and will feature creative activities and decors compatible with this fun concept. The event’s open bar will run for four hours and feature signature spirits of mixologists, as well as festive tapas. This event will be a privileged opportunity to reinforce brand awareness and network among target audiences and sponsors.This summer event will also be the precursor for World Blood Donor Day (6/14) and Armon Hayes birthday (6/16).

Method 

Muddle coffee bean in a mixing glass. Add D’USSÉ, marigold syrup and Sauvignon Blanc and fill with ice. Stir and double-strain into a frosted coupe glass. 
*Marigold Syrup: Heat 34 oz of water in a saucepan until it reaches a boil. Add 34 oz of white sugar, 1 oz of citric acid and ¼ lb of dehydrated marigold flowers. Let stand for 24 hours. Double-strain into a bottle for storage.

Elysian Brewing 25th Anniversary Box

In celebration of the milestone anniversary, Elysian released a 25th anniversary box, featuring some of its greatest beers and a collection of experiences to tell the brewery’s history. Elysian collaborated with nearly 30 artists nationwide to create different elements of the box, including both up-and-coming and established talent, like legendary Seattle artists Charles Burns and Peter Bagge of Fantagraphics.

One of the highlights came from Elysian’s Snailbones IPA. The brewery requested 27 different reinterpretations of label from 27 different artists from all different walks of life with just two criteria: It must have a snail and it must have bones. Here are the final products:

INGREDIENTS

·       2 oz. One with Life Organic Tequila Blanco

·       1 oz. Lime juice

·       1 1/2 oz. Elderflower liqueur

·       1/2 oz. Agave syrup

·       3 dashes Aromatic bitters

·       1 slice Lime (garnish)

·       1 dash Chili lime salt or the salt of your choice (garnish)

RECIPE

·       Moisten the side of a rocks glass with lime juice & dip in the chili lime salt (or salt of your choice) then fill the glass with ice.

·       In a shaker, combine tequila, lime juice, elderflower liqueur and agave syrup.

·       Cover and shake hard, shifting the fluid from the top to the bottom of the shaker.

·       Pour into the glass over ice, shake 3 dashes of bitters into the glass and garnish with the lime.

·       1 Part Passoa Passion Fruit liqueur

·       2 Parts Rose Wine

·       10-12 Strawberries

·       5 Oranges

RECIPE

·       Slice Strawberries and Oranges

·       Mix all ingredients in a pitcher and let sit in the fridge for a few hours for best results (however, it’s not necessary)

Skyy Vodka Sparkling Lavender Lemonade

INGREDIENTS

·       1 1/2 parts SKYY® VODKA

·       1 part Lemon juice

·       3/4 part Lavender syrup*

·       4 parts Soda water

·       1 Lavender Sprig

·       1 Lemon Wheel

*To Make Lavender Syrup for this Cocktail

·       500 mL water

·       4 grams dried lavender flowers

·       500 g granulated sugar

·       Bring water to a boil. Remove from heat. Add lavender and allow to steep for 4 minutes.

·       Strain and stir in sugar until dissolved. Allow to cool and bottle.

This special cocktail is one of the most popular cocktails worldwide, and is synonymous with its birthplace, Puerto Rico. This fall, the capital city of San Juan celebrates its incredible 500th anniversary, and there’s no better way to honor this momentous occasion than with a deep dive into the cocktail’s history. Discover Puerto Rico presents a delicious take on the iconic drink:

Ingredients

•          ½ a cup of coconut cream

•          ½ pineapple juice

•          1 cup of ice

•          ¼ cup white rum

•          Cherries, pineapple wedges, and whipped cream for toppings

Directions: In a blender, mix the coconut cream, pineapple juice, ice, and rum until all the ingredients are blended smoothly and frosty. Pour the drink into a glass and top with whipped cream. Use the cherries and pineapples as garnishes.

Grand Lux Cafe Mango Mule

This Thursday is National Mango Day (7/22) and to celebrate, Grand Lux Cafe has unveiled its newest cocktail, the Mango Mule. Made with Crop Organic Meyer Lemon Vodka, Fresh Lime, Mango and Fever Tree Ginger Beer, this refreshing drink is the perfect summer sipper and a great way to ring in the holiday!

  • 1 oz. Fresh Mango – preferably ripe to overripe
  • 1 ½ oz. Citrus Vodka – we recommend Crop Organic Meyer Lemon
  • ½ oz. Orange Liqueur – such as Triple Sec or Cointreau
  • ½ oz. Simple Syrup (1:1 ratio)
  • ½ oz. Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice – approximately the juice from half a lemon
  • 2 oz. Ginger Beer – we recommend Fever Tree Ginger Beer

Directions: In a mixing tin, combine the mango, citrus vodka and orange liqueur. Muddle the mango until it is well broken down – this will help infuse the flavor into the liquors. Add the simple syrup and fresh lemon juice to the shaker tin along with enough ice to fill the tin. Cap the tin and shake the cocktail quickly, 6-8 times to fully chill all the ingredients. Add the Ginger Beer to the tin and then pour the drink into a mule mug or pint glass.

Rum Experiences in Puerto Rico by Discover Puerto Rico:

Did you know that the Island is responsible for producing over 70% of all the rum sold in the U.S.? Puerto Rico is home to household names like Bacardí to local favorites like Don Q with the Island’s rich rum history dating back to the 15th century. Created as a byproduct of the sugar cane industry, laborers discovered mixing molasses and fermenting it produced a distilled spirit – rum! There are over 80 different types of rums on the Island, and several distilleries that continue production to this day. 

Casa Bacardí: Is the world’s largest premium rum distillery located across the bay from Old San Juan. Casa Bacardí offers guided tours that showcases the manufacturing process from sugar cane to distilled rum. 

Castillo Serrallés: Built in the 1930s, the Castillo Serrallés Museum is a Spanish Revival-style home of the Serrallés family, famous for their Don Q rum. The home now serves as a permanent exhibition with guided tours in English and Spanish.

Hacienda Santa Ana: Just 15 minutes outside San Juan, the town of Bayamón boasts the oldest distillery in Puerto Rico. Since 1880, Ron del Barrilito has been manufactured and produced in small batches. There is also a visitor center where you can learn more about the history and taste of Barrilito.

PitoRico: Take a daytrip to the town of Jayuya for some flavorful moonshine called pitorro manufactured at Destilería Cruz. Visitors can drop by the distillery to get a tour of the factory and a tasting of the different flavors of PitoRico, including coconut, passion fruit, tamarind, orange and original.

Justiz started her career on her YouTube channel, where she has grown an impressive following of 1.69M subscribers, and is one of the platform’s top trainers. The fitness guru is now expanding her brand to her very own app, which features full-length workouts organized by difficulty, body part, and length, as well as hosts challenges, exercise schedules and fitness programs. A new exclusive workout is updated every Monday, granting users the versatility to switch up their routines and target different areas of the body. All of the workouts require zero equipment or commitment, so you can work out from the comfort of home alongside a professional personal trainer and community of like-minded individuals with similar fitness goals. Justiz demystifies nutrition and fitness in an approachable and exhilarating way, leaving users feeling and looking their best. Here at 360 Magazine, we chatted with Justiz about the exclusive content on her very own app, her dream of hosting a post-pandemic bootcamp workout, and her best tips regarding staying motivated to follow a consistent workout routine:

What inspired you to transition from only making videos on YouTube to creating content on Daily Thrive?

“I always knew I wanted to have my very own platform with the freedom to grow and expand and inspire others. I love YouTube and I owe all my success to that amazing platform, but at the end of the day, being on YouTube leaves me to the mercy of their algorithm. The YouTube algorithm is set up in a way that many creators have to resort to clickbait to be seen by a bigger percentage of their audience. For vlogs and entertainment videos, this is more than fine, but in the world of fitness, using clickbait can be damaging and harmful. It can make people feel like they can take quick fixes to get fast, drastic results. But that’s not how wellness and fitness works! Having Daily Thrive by Vicky Justiz, my very own workout app, allows me to focus on the stuff that truly matters-which is creating effective, fun workouts and content that will get people excited to be active, make them happier, and help them build habits! My focus is now on quality content that people truly need and want rather than what can get more “clicks” or more attention.”

Do you plan to keep creating YouTube videos, or do you see yourself transitioning into only using the Daily Thrive app?

“Absolutely! I do not plan on leaving YouTube any time soon. I will be putting most of my workout content exclusively on Daily Thrive, but leaving YouTube open to educational content, nutritional content, vlogs, etc. And of course, I will still be uploading workouts here and there for all my ladies (and gentleman) that cannot afford or do not want to commit to an app.”

Do fans who buy the app have access to any exclusive content that isn’t available on your YouTube?

“Oh yes! Absolutely–that’s the point. So far, we have about 30 full length workout classes that cannot be found anywhere else. These range anywhere from 10 mins to over an hour long. I also release a brand new, exclusive workout every single Monday. I was originally planning to have ONLY exclusive videos on the app, but I made a last-minute decision to import (most) of my YouTube content into the app as well. This will make it easier for those who want to use Daily Thrive but still have their favorite YouTube workouts they like to do. A key difference is that for the Daily Thrive app, we have removed any ads or sponsors from the YouTube videos. This way, you can go straight into the workout with no distractions!”

Obviously the classes on Daily Thrive are virtual. When COVID allows, would you be interested in guiding in-person workout classes as well?

“It is literally my dream to host a huge bootcamp workout class. You just can’t compare the energy you get in-person to virtual. It would be super hard to decide where to do these because my audience is very diverse. I literally work with someone in every single country in the world! It’s definitely a dream post-covid though…”

What is your biggest tip regarding sticking to a consistent workout regimen?

“My biggest tip is to start small. I like to go by something called the 5-minute rule. When you don’t feel like doing a workout, when you are coming up with a million excuses as to why you can’t, just show up and do something for 5 minutes.  Many times, we talk ourselves out of doing things, we let the idea of working out overwhelm us, but if we just show up, we get through the hardest part, and many times we muster the energy to keep going and finish through the actual workout. But my motto has always been that ‘something is better than nothing.’”

Do you have any tips for readers who may be interested in your app now that they’ve heard of it, but are new to working out?

“Start with the 28 Kickstart Challenge. This is a great challenge for any fitness level, and we have two “pre-retraining” workout classes that go very in depth on the form for each exercise. To stay motivated, join in on the fun in the Facebook community, on Instagram, etc. Seeing other likeminded women doing the challenge and workouts right alongside with you will give you motivation and you won’t feel alone! Daily Thrive also has a 7-day free trial with no commitment, so you can always try before you buy to make sure you love it (but I absolutely know that you will!).”

What is your favorite feature of your app?

“I wouldn’t necessarily call it a feature – it’s more of an approach. I am never ever afraid to show my struggle in my workouts. You will see me red faced, hair all over the place, having to stop to take a breath, cursing the workout, laughing at myself, and more. Its real and raw and I want you to feel like you are doing the workout with a friend rather than a robot fitness instructor. I want you to know that it’s absolutely okay to take a pause, to struggle, and to find it difficult. This is where growth comes from.”
