On Wednesday, May 11, multimedia icon Angie Martinez paid a visit to the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island to do a book reading and book donation for some of the female inmates just before Mother’s Day.
Angie read to the inmates from her recent released memoir, My Voice, which candidly recounts the story of her rise to become an internationally celebrated hip-hop radio icon. Angie also held a Q&A with the inmates, where they discussed life challenges and the hardships of motherhood. Angie also signed books for inmates and staff, and also made a donation of her memoir to the new Women’s Library inside the Rose M. Singer center.
