Wigs vs. Hats: Which Is Better for Bad Hair Days?

We’ve all been there: You wake up late, glance in the mirror, and gasp. Maybe your hair resembles a bird’s nest, your roots are screaming for touch-ups, or that DIY haircut went horribly wrong. Enter the two superheroes of hair emergencies—wigs and hats. But which one truly saves the day? Let’s break it down like a reality TV showdown.

Round 1: The “Quick Fix” Factor

Hats is the ultimate grab-and-go solution. A baseball cap or beanie can hide greasy roots in 2 seconds flat. No glue, no combs—just toss it on and bolt out the door. Perfect for school drop-offs or coffee runs.

While modern options like pre-styled lace wigs have leveled up the game. These come ready-to-wear with natural hairlines and pre-curled/straightened strands. Slap one on, adjust the straps, and you’re instantly camera-ready for Zoom meetings or last-minute dates.

Winner: Tie. Hats win for speed, but pre styled wigs deliver a full hair transformation.

Round 2: Comfort & Practicality

Hats: Breathable? Usually. But summer beanies can turn your head into a sauna, and wide-brimmed hats get knocked off by the wind (or curious toddlers). Plus, wearing one all day might leave a dreaded “hat hair dent.”

Today’s lightweight synthetic fibers or breathable lace fronts (like those breathable lace wigs) feel surprisingly natural. However, beginners might struggle with itchy scalps or paranoia about slippage.

Winner: Hats for short-term wear, wigs for all-day confidence.

Round 3: Style Versatility

A chic beret screams Parisian vibes; a bucket hat gives off festival energy. But let’s face it—you can’t rock a neon pink bob or mermaid waves under a hat.

This is where wigs shine. Want to go from brunette to platinum in 5 minutes? Try a wig in a bold color. Craving volume? Clip-in ponytails or curly units add drama without heat damage. Bonus: No commitment—unlike that impulsive salon dye job.

Winner: Wigs, hands down. They’re the ultimate “instant makeover” tool.

Round 4: The “Oops-Proof” Test

Hats: Wind = enemy #1. A gusty day can send your cap flying into a puddle. Also, hats won’t save you if your partner accidentally spills salsa on your head.

High-quality units stay put through moderate chaos. Dance at a wedding? Check. Sprint to catch the bus? Check. Plus, if disaster strikes, you can just… take the wig off. Imagine peeling away coffee-stained hair like a magic trick!

Winner: Wigs for durability, hats for low-stakes errands.

Round 5: The Budget Battle

Hats: Affordable and reusable. A $20 fedora can last years unless your dog turns it into a chew toy.

Wigs: Prices vary wildly. Cheap synthetic wigs might fray after two wears, but investing in pre styled lace wigs (which mimic real scalp lines) can cost $100−300. However, they last months with proper care, cheaper than weekly salon blowouts.

Winner: Hats for frugal folks, wigs for long-term ROI.

When to Choose Which: A Cheat Sheet

Pick a Hat If…

You’re rushing to the gym/grocery store.

Your hair just needs “a little something” (e.g., hiding roots).

You’re in a hat-friendly environment (no strict dress codes).

Go for a Wig If…

You need to look polished fast (job interviews, parties).

You want to experiment with bold styles risk-free.

You’re dealing with hair loss or thinning (hugs and solidarity).

The Secret Third Option: Wig + Hat Combo

Yes, you can have both! Throw a curly pre styled lace wig under a trendy newsboy cap for “I woke up like this” texture. Or pair a short bob wig with a silk scarf for vintage glam. The internet is full of hybrid inspo—TikTokers are obsessed!

Final Thoughts

Bad hair days are inevitable, but your rescue plan depends on the situation and your vibe. You can keep both in your backpack. A baseball cap and a trusty pre-styled lace wig (like this fan-favorite) will ensure you’re ready for anything. Now go forth and conquer those bad hair days like the chaos-proof legend you are!

The Most Successful Musicians at Poker Tournaments

Given poker’s standing as one of the world’s most beloved card games, it’s no wonder that some of the most influential figures of our time consider themselves to be avid players.

In Hollywood alone, actors like Ed Norton, Jennifer Tilly, and Tobey Maguire are known for participating in the World Series of Poker (WSOP)—with Tilly winning a coveted WSOP bracelet in 2005. When it comes to sports, Olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps and F1 record-breaker Max Verstappen stand out because they go beyond simply playing the card game—they’re also brand endorsers for Global Poker, an online poker website renowned for its unique, sweepstakes-style games.

With that said, it follows that many famous musicians like playing a hand or two, as well. In fact, some of them are so good at poker that they’ve won professional tournaments! Here are some of the most successful artists on the competitive poker circuit:

Andy Milonakis

Andy Milonakis’ rap career took off in the early days of the Internet, with one of his first releases—The Andy Milonakis Rap—posted on YouTube in the early 2000s. Though he also made music as part of the now-disbanded comedy hip-hop group Three Loco, Milonakis has released a number of EPs, mixtapes, and singles as a solo artist. He’s also featured in high-profile collaborations with other popular rappers, including Chief Keef and Gucci Mane.

In his free time, however, he loves playing poker and often streams his games on YouTube and Twitch. The most successful run he documented took place during the All In For America charity online poker tournament in 2020, which aimed to raise money for the country’s food banks. Hosted by America’s Card Room, the US’ #1 poker site, the event saw him go up against celebrities like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Tobey Maguire. In the end, Milonakis finished third, with the main prize going to America’s Card Room ambassador and poker pro Ebony Kenney. Despite that success, the rapper stayed humble, noting that he “had the honor… to play with a lot of cool celebrities.”

Scott Ian

If you like listening to metal, you probably know Scott Ian for co-founding—and being the only remaining original member of—the thrash band Anthrax. Considered one of the genre’s most influential rhythm guitarists, Ian is also popular for his other acts, including the crossover band Stormtroopers of Death, the experimental rock band Mr. Bungle, and The Damned Things, a supergroup where Ian is joined by the likes of Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley and Joe Trohman.

Ian is similarly famous for playing online poker on tour—like Milonakis, he also uploads his games to YouTube—as well as playing at live poker tournaments. At the VH1 Rock ‘n’ Roll Celebrity Poker Tournament in 2006, he won against other metal greats like Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley and Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul. The victory secured him a spot at UltimateBet’s Aruba Poker Classic tournament the following year, where he rubbed shoulders with pros like Phil Hellmuth and Annie Duke. By 2008, UltimateBet signed Ian on as its newest online pro, and the guitarist began featuring on the guaranteed poker tournaments the poker website held every Sunday—where winners who could beat Ian would get their buy-in back.

Steve Albini

Steve Albini is remembered not only for being Shellac’s frontman but also for his legacy as one of the greatest sound engineers the music industry has ever seen. Having worked on everything from the legendary Nirvana album In Utero to the Pixies song Where is My Mind?, Albini was known for his attention to detail and preference for analog recording tools and techniques. His laser focus helped him find success in his other endeavors, including running his food blog Mariobatalivoice—and, of course, playing poker.

Albini has not one, but two WSOP bracelets to his name. In 2018, he beat more than 300 other players to nab first place at the tournament’s Seven Card Stud event. He then replicated that success in 2022, where he took home both his second bracelet and $196,089 after ranking first against 773 others at $1,500 H.O.R.S.E.

Nelly

Nelly is arguably one of the noughties’ biggest mainstream rappers. His sound—a blend of hip-hop, pop, and Midwestern influencers—was an instant hit with listeners, and as a result his debut studio album Country Grammar received diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. To date, he’s won three Grammy Awards and nine Billboard Music Awards.

As such, it’s no surprise that he’s found similar success in the world of poker. Most notably, he won a celebrity poker tournament hosted by Rolling Stone, which was organized to commemorate the magazine’s 40th anniversary. The skills he used to nab the top spot at that event have seen him reach none other than the finals of the 2007 and 2009 WSOP. Nelly has also qualified for other professional poker tournaments, including PokerStars’ European Poker Tour and Caribbean Adventure.

Minimalist vs. Glam: Formal Dress Styles for Different Personalities

Unraveling the Elegance and Allure of Formal Dress Styles

Both styles, while worlds apart, celebrate the beauty of formal dresses fashion in their own unique ways. Minimalist dresses are akin to a whispered secret, elegant in their simplicity. Glamorous dresses, on the other hand, are like a grand orchestral finale—bold and unforgettable. Style is eternal, and each choice we make in attire is a note in the symphony of our personal fashion legacy.

Minimalist Formal Dresses

Imagine stepping into an atelier where every curve and stitch whispers simplicity and elegance. The minimalist style embraces the mantra of “less is more,” focusing on clean lines, understated beauty, and effortless sophistication.

What Defines This Style

Minimalist formal dresses are a celebration of the art of restraint, letting quality and craftsmanship shine through. They invite the wearer to express with subtlety and grace, embodying the idea that true style is often found in what you choose to omit, not add.

  • Lines and Shapes—Think sleek silhouettes that skim the body in an unfussy, artful manner. The beauty lies in the precision of the cut and the purity of the form.
  • Colors—A minimalist palette often includes neutral tones like black, white, and navy, occasionally embracing muted shades. The effect is demure, allowing the craftsmanship to take center stage.
  • Fabric—Luxurious textiles speak volumes—think silk, cashmere, or a fine wool. The tactile experience is as important as the visual, exuding quiet confidence and refined taste.
  • Accessories—In keeping with the subdued aesthetic, accessories are strategically chosen to enhance rather than overshadow. A sleek clutch or a single piece of statement jewelry is all it takes to elevate your ensemble.

Minimalism is all about the art of restraint, letting the wearer’s natural poise and personality shine through without distraction.

Historical Roots & Cultural Influences

The minimalist style traces its roots back to several influences, evolving as a counterpoint to periods of excess and ornamentation in fashion.

Post-War Europe

The austerity and resilience of post-WWII Europe laid the groundwork for minimalist aesthetics. Fashion responded to resource scarcity and shifting social norms with pared-back designs that emphasized functionality and purity of form.

1960s and Beyond

As designers like Mary Quant and André Courrèges embraced clean lines and geometry, minimalism found its space. The 1990s saw a revival with designers like Calvin Klein and Jil Sander championing simplicity as sophistication.

Japanese Influence

Designers like Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake have been instrumental, drawing from traditional Japanese garment construction (think kimono simplicity) and Zen-like restraint.

Minimalism in fashion does echo the principles of Zen—stripping away the unnecessary to reveal pure, understated beauty. It’s like capturing the essence of a moment in haiku, where each word, or in this case, each line and fabric choice, is deliberate and meaningful.

Icons of Minimalism

Grace Kelly epitomizes the minimalist ethos with her penchant for elegant silhouettes characterized by clean lines and quiet glamour. Alongside her, Audrey Hepburn serves as another beacon of understated beauty, often donning simple yet impactful attire.

Key Silhouettes & Design Elements

When it comes to minimalist formal dresses, the magic lies in their impeccable cuts and timeless silhouettes:

  • Sheath Dress—The epitome of minimalism—a form-fitting style that gently contours the body, letting the fabric and cut speak volumes.
  • Slip Dress—With its fluid, unstructured drape, this style is the essence of understated elegance.
  • A-Line Dress—Flares gently from the waist, offering a balanced, unfussy allure that suits many body types.

These silhouettes, with their architectural purity, showcase the designer’s skill in creating visual impact through simplicity. Minimalist dresses are often crafted from high-quality materials like silk or crepe, which elevate their understated design, demanding nothing less than excellence in construction.

Universal Appeal & Investment Value

Minimalism offers a sartorial versatility akin to having a golden ticket at life’s various social engagements. This style transcends trends, allowing the wearer to move confidently across the spectrum—from day galas to evening soirees—with minimal yet tasteful adaptation.

When you invest in a minimalist piece, you’re acquiring a versatile ally—an MVP of your wardrobe. Classic, enduring, and effortlessly elegant, these dresses are often considered timeless treasures. They pair seamlessly with a variety of accessories, each time offering a fresh take on simplicity.

Glamorous Formal Dresses

Now, step into a different atelier, where audacity and sparkle reign supreme. Glam style is all about making an entrance, a celebration of grandeur and opulence.

Main Focus of the Glam Style

Glam isn’t exactly the antithesis of minimalism; it’s more like a different narrative style in the epic tale of self-expression. While minimalism whispers its elegance, glam makes an entrance with a symphony of style and sparkle.

  • Lines and Shapes—Dramatic silhouettes—think sweeping ball gowns, intricate lace detailing, or daring cuts that showcase the figure. It’s an embrace of the spectacular.
  • Colors—Jewel tones and metallics take center stage, as well as rich, vibrant hues. Glam is all about catching the light and the eye, exuding energy and charisma.
  • Fabric—Think sequins, satin, or tulle—each adding depth and dimension. Luxurious textures and shimmering surfaces speak to a love of the ornate and extraordinary.
  • Accessories—When it comes to glam, accessories are bold and plentiful. Statement jewelry, dazzling clutches, and killer heels complete the look, adding layers of lavish detail.

Glam is all about the dazzling entrance, reflecting a desire to turn heads and captivate the room with divine presence.

The Hollywood Influence

Ever since the Golden Age of cinema, stars have dazzled on the red carpet, their gowns crafted to capture the flash of cameras and the gaze of admirers. Glamorous dresses are about making a statement, each choice—be it fabric, color, or embellishment—designed to captivate and enthrall.

The Art of Balance

Choosing a glam dress is an art form. To avoid overwhelming the senses, the key is balance.

  • Color and Fabric—Pairing a bold hue with an opulent fabric, like sequins or satin, takes center stage. Once these are chosen, the dress’s silhouette may lean towards clean lines to offset the drama.
  • Silhouette and Extras—A simple cut can act as the canvas upon which the fabric and color work their magic. Conversely, a more intricate silhouette might pair with subdued tones or fabrics to let its architectural beauty command attention without overpowering.

Accessorizing a Glam Look

  • Jewelry—Opt for statement pieces, but perhaps focus on one area—say, a pair of chandelier earrings or a dazzling bracelet, rather than both. Let one piece sing the solo.
  • Clutch and Shoes—Keep them in the same vein as the dress’s theme, but ensure they don’t distract from the gown’s glory.

Personality and Style Selection

A minimalist piece can allow a person’s natural beauty to shine independently, while a glam dress can amplify that beauty with an extra dose of dazzle. It’s all about how you want the dress to serve your personal narrative.

For those with a naturally commanding presence, starting with a minimalist look could offer a fresh canvas to paint new dimensions of their persona. It allows subtle charisma to shine through, without the noise that a full-blown glam ensemble might introduce.

Fashion is a playground for the spirit. Whether you choose to whisper your elegance or announce your arrival, the most important thing is how the clothes make you feel. Let them be an extension of your inner essence and a celebration of your unique sel—find joy in the process of discovering what feels authentically you.

Whichever style you are drawn to, remember that fashion is only a potent vehicle for self-expression. You’re dressing in tune with the understated elegance of a minimalist or reveling in the vivacious spirit of glam, the most important accessory remains the confidence with which you wear it.

Helen Frankenthaler: Painting Without Rules

  • Helen Frankenthaler: Painting Without Rules celebrates the legacy of a pioneering artist who never stopped exploring new ways to make abstract art.
  • Comprising thirty of Frankenthaler’s poetic abstractions created between 1953 and 2002, the exhibition also features select paintings and sculptures by some of her contemporaries—Anthony Caro, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, Kenneth Noland, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and David Smith, highlighting the synergies between these artists.
  • Frankenthaler played a pivotal role in the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Color Field painting and is best known for her expanded use of the soak-stain technique.
  • The artist also adhered to a shared belief when it came to making art: No rules! Whether you were a painter or a sculptor (or both), the mantra was the same: no rules meant never being complacent about how your art got made, the materials used, or what it might look like.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents Helen Frankenthaler: Painting Without Rules, the largest exhibition ever held in Spain dedicated to this great artist pioneer of abstraction. The show, sponsored by the BBVA Foundation, Strategic Trustee of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao from 1997, and organized by the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation in collaboration with the Museum, celebrates Helen Frankenthaler’s revolutionary art through a chronological journey that follows her prolific career over six decades.

Anitta Releases Intimate Single Larissa from Netflix Doc

GRAMMY® Award-nominated international superstar Anitta shares her intimate new single entitled “Larissa” from her recently released Netflix documentary Larissa: The Other Side of Anitta out now via Republic Records/Universal Music Latin Entertainment. The song reflects on the strength needed to reveal one’s most vulnerable self to another person. Listen to “Larissa (From Larissa: The Other Side Of Anitta)” HERE.

“You act like a crazy person / You don’t realize / But it’s so obvious / That you see me, that you look at me,” she sings in Spanish, demonstrating the type of romantic fragility that is relatively new to the discography of the Brazilian singer.

Here, Anitta powerfully narrates details of an uninhibited and fearless relationship between two people who are not afraid to be themselves when they are together. It is a safe place for Larissa (the other side of Anitta) to be.

“My music has always been about strength, right? Mainly feminine strength. But, talking about this track and also the film, I feel like I discovered a new type of strength by allowing myself to be fragile, to fail, and to make mistakes. ‘LARISSA’ wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for this process, in which Larissa became more and more comfortable to be seen,” shares Anitta.

The arrangement is another fresh addition to her catalog. “Larissa” incorporates elements of drum and bass. The British electronic music subgenre, characterized by fast and minimalist beats, is mixed with moments of passionate reggaeton. The lyrics were written by the singer herself, in partnership with Essa Gante (Bad Bunny and Belinda), Daniel Sobrino, and the producer of the track, Caleb Calloway (Rauw Alejandro).

The track was initially released with the documentary Larissa: The Other Side Of Anitta, playing during the final scenes. Two days following the film’s release on March 6, 2025, the artist debuted the song on the Bloco da Anitta electric trio in Rio de Janeiro to an exuberant audience of around 1.1 million people.

Gwen Stefani – Still Gonna Love You

Gwen Stefani shares the deluxe edition of her celebrated fifth studio album: Bouquet Deluxe. Available now via Interscope Records, the expanded release features a new song “Still Gonna Love You,” co-written by FINNEAS, as well as acoustic renditions of every track. Listen to Bouquet Deluxe HERE.

“Still Gonna Love You” is an emotionally bare addition to the Bouquet track list, featuring slowly growing instrumentation and a message of resilience: “You can push me away, go ahead and make your mistakes, I won’t judge you / Nothin’ that you can say if you want me to hate you, I’m still gonna love you.”

“This song is about love,” says Stefani about her newly shared song. “A love that can’t be broken, a love that no matter what is always going to be there, and a love that can always bring you back home.”

Stefani recorded Bouquet backed by a full live band. The idea of life’s seasons, and seeds of hope that you plant, runs throughout Bouquet, serving up endlessly quotable lyrics that are full of clever turns. “Bouquet represents a blend of everything that I’ve ever been and who I’ve evolved into. Each one of the songs was picked like individual flowers to create a bouquet of the past, the present, and the seeds of hope for the future,” said Stefani.

Stefani has brought her new songs to a variety of stages and spaces. Lead single “Somebody Else’s” received an official music video and a grand performance on The Voice. She debuted “Swallow My Tears” on The Today Show and performed the title track “Bouquet” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And a handful of songs new and old made it into her recent Backyard Garden Party series.

To date, she’s sold more than 100 million track units worldwide. Her 2015 solo album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Her five-times Platinum solo set Love. Partnering with orthopedic technician Peter Hedström, the brand developed a proprietary 3D-scanned insole technology backed by data from over 3 million feet.
