Reebok and Western Hydrodynamic Research Use Low Impact Materials to
Create Beach Utility-Inspired Footwear

Today, Reebok, the irreverent sports culture brand, and Western Hydrodynamic Research (WHR) announces the inaugural collection between the two brands showcasing two of Reebok’s cult classic silhouettes: the Club C 85 and Beatnik.

The team at WHR is focused on designing and developing beach utility products that facilitate connection to the ocean. This collection draws inspiration from that beach utility ethos and features a
variety of recycled fabrics and suede to emulate the durability and connection to the environment that
WHR pieces have become known for. To bring the shoes to life, WHR mined Reebok’s library of low impact materials to find pieces that could execute that vision.

“We are honored to be on Reebok’s roster of collaborators,” said WHR Founder, Pat Towersey. “We
have been so excited to put our spin on the Club C 85, an iconic shoe that has been part of popular culture since the ‘80s, and of course the Beatnik, which is the perfect slide.”

The Club C 85 ($130, 100200688) and Beatnik ($120, 100200687) both feature suede accents and gum
outsoles to add definition and dimensions amidst the recycled materials. Further detailing includes the
WHR logo embroidered into the signature Beatnik strap and a WHR patch adhered to the footbed of the
Club C 85.

Paired with the collection is campaign content concepted and shot by creative and photographer Emma
Berson. The concept plays with the ambiguity of the WHR brand and balances the serious tone of the
brand name with a lighter, more playful execution.

The Reebok x Western Hydrodynamic Research Beatnik will be available in unisex sizing exclusively at
whr.institute beginning February 9th, 2024. The Reebok x Western Hydrodynamic Research Club C 85 will see an initial release at whr.institute beginning February 9th, 2024, before a global release at select
retailers on February 16th, 2024.

James R. Harlan glass installation at Tina Turk Palm Springs via 360 MAGAZINE.

Exploration w/ Glass

James R. Harlan’s Exploration with Glass was created exclusively for the Trina Turk Palm Springs corner window in celebration of Modernism Week 2024. The installation is on display now – February 24, 2024.

James is a local Palm Springs architect and artist, who creates abstract suspended glass objects called RAYS. Each unique fused glass piece is strung on leather cord in an exploration of color and composition.

“One of James’ larger pieces was included in a group show at Gary Wexler’s studio in 2023, which sparked the idea of approaching James to design a grouping for Trina Turk’s corner window where the light would highlight the color of the RAYS. James’ work will carry on their tradition of exhibiting artists’ work during Modernism—last year they featured Dustin Gimbel’s ceramic cacti, and Aaronel deRoy Gruber ‘s acrylic sculptures were displayed the prior year,” says Turk.

The Exploration with Glass installation will showcase pieces assembled by hand and fused at 1300 degrees. No two pieces are alike. “I’ve always had a fascination with glass. The color, transparency and the reflective nature of glass inspires me”, says Harlan.

All RAYS are available for purchase at Trina Turk Palm Springs.

NEW CHICAGO ATTRACTION – FLYOVER

CHICAGO’S NEWEST ATTRACTION – FLYOVER – REVEALS CREATIVE TEAM AND FILM TRAILER

New Multi-Sensory Experience by Pursuit to Take Viewers on an Immersive Journey through Chicago

Flyover, the immersive attraction that transports guests to the planet’s most epic places through exhilarating flying journeys, released the trailer for the new Chicago experience today.

Located within the city’s landmark waterfront Navy Pier, the multi-sensory experience features impressive aerial shots and first-person narratives, along with leading drone technologies, to showcase Chicago from perspectives never seen before.

Click here for the official trailer to the signature Chicago flying journey

“The Flyover journey in Chicago embraces the concept of the strength of the individual and the power of community that is present throughout the history of Chicago,” said Lisa Adams, COO and Executive Producer, Flyover Attractions by Pursuit. “The opportunity to try and capture the energy of a city and humanity within a city, and to do this in Chicago, was incredibly exciting.”

“When we began this journey and throughout the process, we had the privilege of speaking with hundreds of Chicagoans about Chicago and what makes them proud of the city. As we spoke to all these incredible people, we were excited to find common threads and fuse them into a story that ultimately inspires and brings people together,” said writer and director David Mossop.

Pursuit partnered with some of the entertainment industry’s most creative minds to bring Chicago’s flying journey to life. These include:

1.       Creative Director: 30 years of experience as an “Imagineer” at Disney, Rick Rothschild.

2.      Film Writer & Director / Associate Creative Director: Cannes Lion Award-winning David Mossop.

3.      Composer & Executive Music Producer: Renowned film composer and music producer Elliott Wheeler, most recently known for his work as composer and Executive Music Producer for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.

4.      Music Director: Decorated conductor Rich Daniels.

5.      Film Producer, Act 3: Chicago’s Rich Lederer, a production manager and producer recently known for Power Book IV: Force, Empire, and Barbershop 2.

Three Act Immersive Experience

Flyover’s journey begins when visitors step through the door, with Act 1 unveiling a gallery-style experience that introduces guests to Chicago characters, suburban settings, and thematic musical touchpoints.

Act 2 is where the story of Chicago deepens. Stories of the people that make up the fabric of the city are introduced, set to an energetic and powerful musical score. Located in our pre-show theatre, guests will be introduced to real Chicagoans up close and living real life in their diverse communities. Stirring words heard from various Chicagoans are combined with building musical emotions and stunning immersive cinematography from around the city.

Flyover’s climax, Act 3, is an exhilarating 9-minute flying journey unlike anything ever experienced. The audience weaves an impossible and continuous flight-line through Chicago. From 13,000ft above to diving straight down buildings and skimming sidewalks; from wall-riding skyscrapers, floating through fireworks, and even into buildings like the Chicago Theatre; all while choreographed action of Chicagoan lifestyle unfolds: L-trains sparking, boats ripping, car chases, sports being played, up in the airshow, and more.

“From new drone technology developed specifically for Flyover, to a musical score that introduces collaborative new music, to stories of Chicago told by its people, this journey will ultimately engage and entertain viewers with an immersive urban experience that pushes the boundaries of Flyover attractions in both technology and style,” said Adams.

Flyover’s signature Chicago journey will be shown on an impressive 65-foot spherical screen with flight motion seats engineered to swoop, dip, and turn, giving guests the feeling of flight. The attraction will transport 60 guests at a time, with complete sensory immersion using wind, mist, and scents, as fliers hang suspended.

The 48,000 square-foot immersive flying journey is located on the Navy Pier, directly across from the Chicago Children’s Museum at the west entrance of Navy Pier. The new Chicago experience will mark the fourth Flyover experience for Pursuit, which also includes Flyover attractions in Las Vegas, Reykjavik, Iceland, and Vancouver, Canada.

Flyover will debut on March 1. To learn more about Flyover or to purchase tickets visit ExperienceFlyover.com/Chicago

Little Blue Penguin

For the first time, a Little Blue Penguin has hatched at Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. The chick made its debut on New Year’s Day in the aquarium’s Penguin Care and Conservation Center in Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins.

“Our team is beyond excited to welcome this adorable new addition to the Birch Aquarium family!
Our penguin colony is truly a diverse group, comprised of individuals from five different zoos and aquariums,” said Kayla Strate, Assistant Curator of Birds.

“While it took some time for our penguins to synchronize to the same San Diego schedule, we’ve created the ideal environment for our birds to thrive thanks to careful observations and adjustments to our breeding plans. Each breeding success makes a meaningful addition to the genetic diversity of Little Blue Penguin populations in the U.S.,” she continued.

This moment, years in the making, marks a remarkable milestone in the aquarium’s penguin conservation efforts as well as cooperative breeding program efforts with other Association of Zoos and Aquariums institutions. This chick is also the first Little Blue Penguin to hatch on the West Coast.

“Birch Aquarium has significantly expanded its breeding and conservation efforts over the years,” said Harry Helling, Executive Director. “The hatching of our first Little Blue Penguin chick is a major milestone for how today’s aquariums can make a difference in a changing planet.”

For now, the chick will remain behind the scenes as the first few months are crucial to its development. The chick is the offspring of Cornelius (male) and Pink/Black (female), however, it is being hand-raised by the aquarium’s penguin care team. This is a labor-intensive task that requires expert-level avicultural skills according to Strate. The sex of the chick will be announced soon.

“I’m so proud of everyone on the team for rising to the challenge,” she said.

The chick is growing daily and fast! In just less than a month it nearly tripled in size, growing from 29 to over 800 grams. During its first few weeks, it was fed a blended formula of fish, krill and vitamins. It’s now alternating between formula and a few pieces of fish a few times a day and will soon graduate to eating whole fish.

The chick is currently covered in fluffy down feathers, however these feathers are not waterproof. The next significant milestone will be the chick’s first molt when it grows in a sleek set of waterproof feathers. At that time, in approximately three months, the penguin will be ready to join the rest of the colony in the exhibit.

The aquarium hopes that this new arrival helps inspire the public to continue to protect our ocean planet as wild populations of Little Blue Penguins are facing numerous challenges from climate change. Warmer waters mean they must venture to colder, deeper waters to find food. This change significantly impacts the overall health of penguins, making it more difficult for them to nest and breed.

“Penguins are impacted by climate change and are indicative of the health of the oceans,” said Jenn Nero Moffatt, Senior Director of Animal Care, Science and Conservation. “It is critical that we not only protect wild populations but continue to maintain a healthy and genetically diverse population of Little Blue Penguins in human care. Our efforts provide sanctuary and serve as a repository for this important bird species.”

The aquarium is hopeful about welcoming more chicks in the future, as additional eggs are currently developing behind the scenes. Penguin enthusiasts can follow the aquarium’s social media channels for the latest updates.

Tips for Storing Outdoor Entertainment Equipment

In the world of theater, the magic of a performance is often encapsulated in its set, a physical manifestation of imaginative worlds. However, the question arises post-curtain fall: where do these large, intricate sets go? This is where the art of set storage comes into play, offering practical solutions for preserving these pieces of theatrical art. Effective storage not only safeguards the physical components but also ensures their longevity for future performances. In this exploration of storage solutions for theater sets, we delve into the unique challenges faced by theater companies and the innovative approaches to store and maintain these vital elements of storytelling. It’s a journey that balances the practicalities of space management with the preservation of creative expression, essential for keeping the spirit of theater alive.

Evaluating Space Needs for Sets

When it comes to storing theater sets, one of the primary considerations is evaluating the space needed to accommodate such large and often intricate pieces. This process involves a careful assessment of the set’s dimensions, the frequency of use, and the ease of access required. For many theater groups, especially those with rotating productions, finding adequate space that provides both flexibility and convenience is vital. In this context, Hide-Away storage units in Bradenton, FL present an ideal solution. These units offer ample space, allowing for the storage of not just flat backdrops but also three-dimensional set pieces that require more careful handling.

Additionally, their location and design are conducive to quick, efficient set changes, ensuring that the transition between different productions is as smooth as possible. By carefully evaluating the space requirements and selecting the right storage solution, theater companies can ensure their sets are preserved in perfect condition, ready for their next performance.

Climate Control for Delicate Props

Preserving the integrity of delicate theater props is a critical aspect of set storage, necessitating a controlled environment. Climate control within storage units plays a pivotal role in protecting these items from the damaging effects of temperature fluctuations and humidity. Delicate materials like wood, fabric, and paper that are commonly used in theater props and backdrops are particularly susceptible to warping, mold, and fading.

By maintaining a consistent, moderate climate, these valuable pieces are shielded from such deterioration, ensuring their longevity and continued usability. This approach is not just about preservation; it also reflects a respect for the artistry and craftsmanship that go into creating these elements. With climate-controlled storage, theater groups can rest assured that their intricate and often irreplaceable props remain in prime condition, ready to bring life to stages and transport audiences to different worlds time and time again.

Innovative Organizing Techniques

Organizing theater sets in storage requires innovative strategies to maximize space while ensuring easy accessibility. Effective organization not only aids in maintaining the set’s condition but also streamlines the process of setting up for future performances.

Consider these key organizing techniques:

  • Vertical Storage Solutions: Utilize height for hanging backdrops and larger flat pieces.
  • Modular Shelving: For flexible storage of variously sized props.
  • Color Coding: Assign colors to different productions for quick identification.
  • Protective Coverings: Use cloth or plastic covers to protect sensitive items.
  • Labeling System: Clearly label each item, including its dimensions and assembly instructions.

By implementing these methods, theater groups can transform their storage units into well-organized repositories, making the process of retrieving and storing sets efficient and straightforward. For more insights on organizing large-scale items, exploring resources from the American Theatre Wing can be incredibly helpful.

This organization offers a wealth of information on various aspects of theater production, including set design and storage. With the right organizing techniques, the magic of theater can be preserved and accessed with ease.

Security Measures for Set Safety

Ensuring the safety and security of theater sets in storage is as crucial as their creative design. In the realm of theater, sets are not just physical structures but are imbued with artistic and often sentimental value. To safeguard these assets, implementing robust security measures in storage facilities is vital. This includes advanced surveillance systems, like CCTV cameras, to monitor the premises continuously. Equally important are secure access controls, which restrict entry to authorized personnel only, thereby protecting the sets from potential theft or vandalism.

Fire safety measures, including smoke detectors and fire suppression systems, are essential to guard against fire hazards, considering the varied and sometimes flammable materials used in set construction. In addition, incorporating motion sensors and alarm systems adds another layer of security, ensuring immediate response to any unauthorized activity. By prioritizing these security aspects, theater groups can have peace of mind, knowing their treasured sets are stored in a safe and protected environment.

Access and Handling Best Practices

Effective access and handling of theater sets in storage are crucial for maintaining their condition and ensuring ease of use. Here are some best practices to consider:

  1. Wide Access Points: Ensure the storage unit has large doors for easy movement of bulky set pieces.
  2. Sturdy Handling Equipment: Use dollies and carts designed to handle heavy or awkward items.
  3. Organized Layout: Arrange sets in order of use or size for efficient retrieval.

These practices not only streamline the process of moving sets in and out of storage but also reduce the risk of damage during handling. For further guidance on handling large and delicate items, the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute offers valuable resources.

Their expertise in preserving and handling precious items can be applied to the care and management of theater sets. Implementing these access and handling strategies ensures that the artistry of theater productions is preserved and ready for the next performance.

Preserving Theatrical Magic

As we reach the end of our exploration into storage solutions for theater sets, it becomes clear that these methods are more than just practical necessities. They are integral to preserving the magic and artistry of theater. By employing thoughtful storage techniques, theater groups can ensure the longevity and readiness of their sets, keeping the spirit of their productions alive. This care and attention to storage detail reflect a deeper commitment to the craft of theater, ensuring that each set piece retains its story and character for future audiences to enjoy.

A stellar line-up of regional and global designers will descend on Dubai this Sunday, 4 February, for the Autumn/Winter 24/25 Dubai Fashion Week (DFW). The AW 24/25 program opens with the esteemed designer duo Rizman Ruzaini – the label for which the iconic Naomi Campbell walked in the October edition of DFW; and closes with the d3-based label Designers&US.

Runway shows then get underway with an array of talented designers, including Anaya, Hummariff, Maison Sara Chraibi (a Paris Fashion Week designer making her Dubai Fashion Week debut), Choice, Riva, Selfmade, Michael Cinco, Zeena Zaki x Tryano, Reborn, Zey-ye, American Rag Cie X Fad Dubai, Emergency Room, Adolfo Dominguez, and Designers&US. “Every edition of Dubai Fashion Week represents a bold step to cement Dubai as one of the world’s fashion capitals,” said Khadija Al Bastaki, Senior Vice President of d3, part of TECOM Group. “This next edition of DFW promises not only to unveil the latest industry trends as told by creatives from the region and beyond but also illuminate the vibrant tapestry of Dubai’s fashion ecosystem. What makes this edition truly special is the extensive reach across the city, but always with d3 at the heart of the action. The event’s new dates, programme, structure and venues will enhance the opportunities and buyers’ network available to participating designers while elevating the experience of fashion fans near and far. Every bite of a nutritious breakfast fuels their focus, and every sip of water nourishes their resilience. They understand that health isn’t a luxury; it’s the foundation upon which empires are built.

Strategic Planning

Wealthy women understand the power of dreams. But they also know they need a roadmap to chase them. It’s not just checking numbers on a spreadsheet – it’s a moment of quiet reflection, a chance to reconnect with the “why” behind their financial aspirations. This mindful practice keeps their eyes on the prize and ensures every step leads them closer to their financial haven.

Whether sizing up opportunities, evaluating risks, or forging strategic partnerships, they base decisions on carefully calculated reasons. This allows for a robust decision-making framework, safeguarding and propelling their financial empires to ever-greater heights.

Investment and Portfolio Management

Rich women with astute financial acumen check in on their investment portfolios daily. This hands-on approach ensures that they stay well-informed about the performance of their investments in real time. Regular portfolio reviews help:

  • identify emerging trends
  • assess risks
  • make timely adjustments.

This proactive engagement with their financial assets reflects a commitment to staying agile and responsive in the dynamic landscape of investments.

Additionally, affluent women tailor their research routines to their unique goals and risk appetites. They delve deep into specific sectors, track individual players, and dissect economic data with a laser focus.

This personalized approach ensures their decisions are not just informed but finely calibrated to their individual needs. They are not passive consumers of information; they are active architects of their financial futures, using research as a powerful tool to make the right investments.

Regular consultations with investment professionals also provide rich women with valuable insights, ensuring that their portfolios are aligned with their financial goals. This partnership not only enhances the effectiveness of daily portfolio reviews but also strengthens the overall strategy for wealth accumulation and protection.

Networking and Relationship Building

Wealth extends beyond the material, encompassing a robust network of industry peers, mentors, and potential collaborators, and wealthy women understand this. Cultivating these connections isn’t a sporadic endeavor; it’s a daily ritual, a deliberate act of investing in their professional futures.

Whether it’s attending conferences, hosting intimate gatherings, or engaging in insightful online forums, they weave themselves into the very fabric of their industry. These interactions are opportunities to exchange knowledge, spark innovation, and forge partnerships that fuel their growth.

Building a strong network also fosters a sense of belonging to a supportive community where knowledge flows freely and advice is readily available. It’s a sounding board for challenges, a source of unexpected inspiration, and a catalyst for personal and professional evolution.

These women also recognize the importance of not only expanding their professional networks but also nurturing personal connections with family, friends, and mentors. This is a holistic approach to success, ensuring that personal well-being and professional achievements complement each other.

Continuous Learning

The commitment to ongoing education and skill development is a hallmark of women dedicated to mastering wealth management. These individuals make a daily commitment to expanding their knowledge base, whether through formal education, workshops, or online courses.

Regularly consuming financial literature, industry publications, and market analyses enable them to gain a deep understanding of current developments. Also, participation in economic forums and attending conferences is the norm for these women. This habit of staying informed positions them to anticipate shifts in the market, identify emerging opportunities, and adapt their financial strategies accordingly.

Philanthropy and Giving Back

Beyond occasional charitable gestures, affluent ladies integrate social responsibility into their financial practices. This involves aligning their investment decisions and business endeavors with ethical and socially responsible principles. By incorporating sustainability and ethical considerations into their financial strategies, these individuals use their wealth as a force for positive change.

This intentional integration of social responsibility into financial practices reflects a commitment to making a lasting impact on both a local and global scale. Actively participating in philanthropy also provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment, enriching their lives beyond financial success. Their generosity contributes to community development, social change, and the well-being of those in need.

So, here is an encouragement for individuals seeking to enhance their financial well-being: consider adopting these habits into your daily routine. Start with small, manageable steps—perhaps waking up a bit earlier and dedicating time to learning about astute financial practices. The key is consistency and a commitment to lifelong learning and growth.
