On the heels of Black Pride in Charlotte, Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour [RWT] made a stop at the newly renovated Bank of America Panthers Stadium. Once seated, we were serenaded with Dangerously in Love.
Broken up into six segments, the initial component showcased the Queen’s immense vocal capabilities. As soon as the siren’s medley of ballads came to a halt, one act followed the next like a well-oiled machine. The arena exploded with a tremendous ROAR when Blue Ivy emerged centerstage with her left arm and fist to the sky. My Power has been a fan favorite from Queen Bey’s The Lion King: The Gift album. However, it’s become even more iconic with TikTok worthy choreography performed by the Grammy Award-winning pop princess, her first born Blue. It was a tearful moment for many of us who had never witnessed an African American mother place their daughter on such a huge pedestal (74,500 seats to be exact). Beyoncé visually tackles a tough conundrum by breaking generational curses, particularly the strained relationship between mother and daughter in black culture.
Other highlights included the singer’s Energy challenge where the entire arena went mute; Queen Bey on top of a tank with hydraulics; and a Ballroom tribute for the Black gay vogue scene with “10,10,10 across the boards.”
