Seinabo Sey - The One After Me released via 360 MAGAZINE.

Seinabo Sey – The One After Me

Capitol Records released Seinabo Sey’s The One After Me, her first album in five years. As she returns with new music, it is as an artist who has found her way back to herself and what drew her to music in the first place: R&B from her teens, the reggae music played in Gambia in the mornings, and the freedom to create on her own terms. Stream / download The One After Me HERE.

“I have been working on this album for almost five years, and I am very pleased with the result. Musically, it has been one of the biggest challenges of my life to put it together, while at the same time, I have learned so much. I have worked with people who have changed my life even more than before,” Sey explains. “I have love and therapy to thank for feeling freer to experience and explore things, both as a human being and as an artist. I have gone through a lot and rediscovered what music means to me.”

This change is reflected in the new songs, which Sey describes as the biggest musical turning point in her career. Unlike previous albums, she has chosen to collaborate with many producers and songwriters this time. She wrote “Yes,” the first single, in collaboration with Simon On The Moon (who also produced), Namasenda, Roger Tallroth, and Joakim Hultqvist. The song features the acclaimed Swedish artist Namasenda. Listen to “Yes” HERE.

“I have always liked Swedish folk music, and it has been present in almost every song I have made for this album,” Sey notes. “Simon On The Moon had this beat he was working on, and when he played it for me, I thought it was exciting to let folk music meet a hip-hop beat in an overt way. Simon is one of the few producers who would dare to do this. I also invited Namasenda to the song because I love her digital vocal production, which is a great complement to the song.”

The One After Me also features the upcoming single “42,” which is about a relationship Sey had with a person referred to as 42. She says, “It was the first person I dated who I realized was dangerous for me. The lyrics are a very straightforward description of what happened, and I sang the whole song in my bed.”

In the years following 2018’s I’m a Dream,  Sey had her first longer relationship, her first difficult breakup, and when she toured with her childhood idol Lauryn Hill at the beginning of the pandemic, it was a turning point.

“When I am in need, it is black women who save me and remind me of who I want to be. Lauryn did just that,” says Sey. “That she, who has shaped me so much musically, thinks I’m good, pushed me in the right direction again. That I should do what I feel like doing.”

As the world isolated itself during the pandemic, the music studio became the safe place where Sey could create music without pressure. She reflects, “I have learned a lot about myself in recent years. I am stronger, care less about what others think, and just want to experience life. I think it shows in the music. The melodies are a bit freer; I dare to play with them and with the words. I believe it’s a result of me being kinder to myself now. That feeling is also reflected in the lyrics.”

Sey has amassed over one billion combined global streams in her career to date, won four Swedish GRAMMY awards and topped the HypeMachine chart five times. TIME magazine hailed her 2015 debut album, Pretend, as “One of the Year’s Best Debut Albums.” Her hit single “Younger,” which was later remixed by Kygo, gained international attention. She fearlessly addressed grief, femininity, racial identity, and body image on I’m a Dream, which contained the singles “I Owe You Nothing” and “Remember” (featuring Jacob Banks). Sey’s live performances have showcased how her expressive and soulful voice can stun crowds into silence at festivals like Way Out West, Glastonbury, and Roskilde – and hypnotize audiences during TV performances on programs like “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “Later… with Jools Holland.”

Towa Bird releases new single Boomerang via 360 MAGAZINE.

Towa Bird – BOOMERANG

Today, rising singer/songwriter Towa Bird shares her frenetic new single “Boomerang” via Interscope Records. An up-close look at the torment of long-distance relationships, “Boomerang” spotlights the mesmerizing guitar work that has made the Hong Kong-born artist one of the most dynamic new voices in the alt-pop world. Listen to “Boomerang” HERE.

Produced by Thomas Powers of New Zealand indie-pop band The Naked and Famous (Towa’s main collaborator on the LP), “Boomerang” emerged as the Los Angeles-based musician struggled with the constant back-and-forth of her relationship with her girlfriend, who lives in New York City.

“This song was born after spending a glorious but short-lived five days visiting my girlfriend,” says Towa, who co-wrote “Boomerang” with Powers and Alisa Xayalith (also of The Naked and Famous). “I stepped off the plane back in L.A. after crying into my face mask for the entirety of the six-hour flight, and the concept for ‘Boomerang’ was born. It’s about how long-distance relationships are possibly the worst thing ever invented — the worst party ever. (Pro-tip: don’t do it!) But if you do happen to find yourself in that sort of scenario, just know that me and this song will meet you there.”

Built on a bold collision of Britpop and garage-punk, “Boomerang” opens on a blistering riff before taking on a feverish momentum fueled by fuzzed-out guitar tones, pulse-pounding rhythms, and wildly soaring melodies. As the song unfolds, Towa’s voice channels both dreamy fragility and raw frustration, achieving a certain soulful intensity at the chorus (“Leave me like a boomerang/I know you’re coming back”). Equal parts heart-on-sleeve confession and sublimely furious anthem, the result is an immediate hit of pure emotional catharsis.

The latest offering from Towa’s forthcoming debut album, “Boomerang” arrives on the heels of Wild Heart — an April release that earned praise from the likes of NYLON (who called the track “exuberant”) and Guitar World (who hailed it as “an infectious indie-pop romp”). Another prime showcase for the dazzling musicality that landed her on Dazed’s definitive list of creatives shaping youth culture, her debut single was soon followed by a gritty but fantastical video in which Towa performs an explosive guitar solo in a glittering, Elvis-esque jumpsuit —watch it HERE.  Check out Homme girls’ recent coverage of Towa HERE.

A half-Filipino, half-English artist who spent much of her childhood in Thailand and London, Towa first started playing guitar at the age of 12, honing her technique by strumming along to The Kinks, The Who, and other bands she discovered through her father’s record collection. After forming her first band at age 14, she cut her teeth playing dive bars and street festivals in Hong Kong, then went on to study at Goldsmiths, University of London. Naming Jimi Hendrix, Joan Jett, and Prince among her longtime inspirations, Towa dropped out of school after two years to pursue her love of music and got her start producing and co-writing for other artists, in addition to posting videos that found her soloing over hip-hop, pop, and R&B songs. As her singular guitar style gained attention across the globe — and earned admiration from the likes of Willow Smith and Tyler, the Creator — Towa began sharing original music and soon after inked her deal with Interscope Records. Due out later this year, Towa’s debut album offers up an intimate exploration of queerness, identity, and the complexities of love.

Yayoi Kusama Guggenheim Museum Bilbao exhibition from June 27 to October 8 via 360 MAGAZINE.

YAYOI KUSAMA: 1945 TO NOW

  • Dates: June 27 to October 8, 2023
  • Curators: Doryun Chong and Mika Yoshitake, in collaboration with Lucía Agirre
  • Sponsored by Iberdrola
  • Exhibition organized by M+, Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

– The work of Yayoi Kusama is articulated around the great themes and questions that have guided her creative explorations: Infinity, Accumulation, Radical Connectivity, Biocosmic, Death, and Force of Life.

– Through paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and archival materials on her happenings and performances, the exhibition shows the way in which Kusama addresses the existential questions that drive her artistic practice.

– A pioneer in the countercultural scene of the late 1960s, Kusama denounced racial and gender discriminations, critiqued war and militarism, and drew media attention with her public happenings.

– Kusama’s interest in nature is at once mystical and literal, as illustrated by her pumpkins, which the artist identifies as a kind of benevolent vegetable spirit and as a reflection of her own soul, though at the same time they offer an immediate identification with nature.

– The joyful and colorful works of her recent series, My Eternal Soul (2009–21), explore Kusama’s commitment to transforming her suffering into art “for the healing of all mankind”.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents Yayoi Kusama: 1945 to Now, an ambitious retrospective dedicated to one of the most influential figures of contemporary art and a cultural icon of the 21st century. The exhibition, sponsored by Iberdrola, will immerse the visitor in the obsessive, singular, avant-garde universe of Yayoi Kusama (b. 1929, Japan) that has evolved and unfolded over the seven decades of her extraordinary artistic career.

From the first drawings she made as a teenager during World War II to her most recent immersive works, this retrospective gathers a selection of 200 paintings, sculptures, performances, moving images, large-scale installations, and archive materials.

“It’s exhilarating to hear The Japanese House’s latest track morph through pop, folk, and bluegrass over the course of three minutes.” – NYLON

The Japanese House (the acclaimed project of Amber Bain) has released new single “Sunshine Baby” from forthcoming album In The End It Always Does (out June 30 on Dirty Hit) featuring vocals from The 1975’s Matty Healy. PRESS HERE to listen, and HERE to check out Rolling Stone’s “first look.” The track also received a first play on BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Clara Amfo earlier today.

Bain’s latest single “Sunshine Baby” comes to us alongside a beautiful live video directed by Sheila Johansson – PRESS HERE to watch the stunning live video. Co-produced by Bain with The 1975’s George Daniel and Chloe Kraemer, “Sunshine Baby” is the perfect melancholic dream-pop inspired track for aimlessly driving around and processing emotions. Showcasing Bain’s nuanced understanding of human emotions, the track balances feelings of nostalgia and acceptance once a relationship has run its course perfectly encapsulating the album’s cyclical nature with Matty Healy’s vocals echoing Amber’s as the track slowly brings you back to reality.

“Sunshine Baby is my nickname for my dog, and my ex and I always used to lay on the beach together being sunshine babies. The chorus is kind of a submission to the end of our relationship, but singing it in a positive light. There’s a transience in every part of a relationship, and in the circle of everything it comes back around,” says Bain.

Late last month, Bain released “Sad To Breathe” and announced her highly anticipated sophomore album In the End It Always Does – pre-save HERE. The upbeat summer anthem for the brokenhearted followed lead single “Boyhood” which sees Bain explore the complexities of gender and sexuality as well as how trauma becomes an inescapable part of a person.

Inspired by a throuple that Amber found herself in during the pandemic and the subsequent slow dissolution of those relationships, In The End It Always Does consists of songs that are each a snapshot in time from that point in her life when everything was falling apart. The music encompasses heartbreak and love lost, with brighter moments and emotional reflections on childhood trauma and identity, all woven into a tapestry of gorgeous, elevated pop music. This album sees Amber lean even further into the pop realm with help from Matty Healy and George Daniel (The 1975), Katie Gavin (MUNA) and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon among others. Amber credits Katie Gavin especially with injecting her with creative energy and inspiration throughout. The album was produced and engineered by Chloe Kraemer (Rex Orange County, Lava La Rue, Glass Animals), an experience Amber describes as “life changing” due to the unspoken, shared understanding between marginalized genders in a creative space.

In The End It Always Does follows The Japanese House’s lauded 2020 EP Chewing Cotton Wool, which featured the illustrious “Dionne” ft. Grammy-award winning songwriter Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver), as well as her critically acclaimed debut album Good At Falling (2019). She’s an alternative pop star for the modern age who is serving up vulnerable lyrics and down to earth, celestial songs that offer a reflection on love, loss, and personal identity. Her intimate, unique sound has propelled her to over 350 million streams on Spotify and garnered her major media praise from New York Times, W Magazine, Playboy, GQ, Nylon, The Fader, Pitchfork, Noisey, i-D, WWD and more.

SOFIA REYES + DANNA PAOLA

THE TWO MOST EXCITING MEXICAN POP STARS, SOFIA REYES, AND DANNA PAOLA, JOIN FORCES ON THE HYPER POP SONG OF THE YEAR.

Both Mexican singers deliver a carefree hyperpop song accompanied by a very fun video

LISTEN TO “tqum (te quiero un montón)” HERE

Sofia Reyes and Danna Paola, two of the most popular popstars in the world right now, have joined forces to deliver an event song that will dominate this summer and point to the future of the genre. Marking the first time both artists have worked in the hyperpop medium, “tqum (te quiero un montón)” deals with feeling nostalgic about an ex and being honest with oneself about missing being with that person; “tqum” gives both Sofía and Danna the chance to express themselves in a unique way. With its avant-garde arrangement and execution, the singers deliver a song that will stay on top of your go-to playlist.

To accompany the new single, a video for “tqum” has been released. Directed by Mamo Vernet and produced by MITH Originals, the video sees the singers trapped in a hellish plane flight which makes them wreck havoc and have a great time. The video reflects the fun aspect of the song as well as the good times Sofía and Danna have together. The visual is a must watch and will be on loop in screens everywhere.

Sofía says about the collaboration. “When we’re on a plane or we spend too much time by ourselves, remember people, and land our thoughts. Sharing this song with Danna Paola is very powerful, obviously because we’re both Mexicans and friends, but also because the song is very much a pop song, and it’s important for both of us to make music that celebrates this kind of music.”

“tqum” will be included in Sofia’s forthcoming album due later in 2023. The full length will also include “Luna,” which sees the singer embrace nature and the power of feminine divinity in a heartfelt and celestial love song. “tqum” was written by Sofia, Danna, Karen Sotomayor, and Thom Bridges; it was produced by BridgesRolling Stone hailed the as-yet-untitled album as “the beginning of a new era […] after an excellent, cumbia-filled album, Mal De Amores.”

Reyes has become an international Latin music superstar. With nominations to prestigious awards like Latin GRAMMYs, Latin American Music Awards, MTV Europe Awards, Premios Juventud, and NRJ Music Awards, among many others, Reyes has demonstrated her talent and versatility as a Global pop icon. She has achieved more than 1 billion views on YouTube and more than 2 billion streams on Spotify worldwide with the numbers rising every day. Her hits like “1 2 3,” “RIP,” “Mal De Amores,” and “Marte” have earned platinum and gold status by the RIAA as well as critical praise by such outlets as Billboard and Rolling Stone. Thanks to the viral hit “1 2 3” on Tik Tok, Reyes became the Latin female artist with the most creations on the platform, with 8 million videos.

Forever,’ however we wouldn’t put it past her to choose a more obvious approach to leaving them behind by checking in to Le Bristol, Paris. Although a native, we feel there is more opportunity for her to truly relax and disconnect from the Waystar drama tucked away on Rue du Faubourg plotting endless days of shopping. Le Bristol is a timeless icon of French glamor and the perfect location for access to everything Marcia could possibly want – from heritage luxury brands to new art exhibitions at the Musee D’Orsay (because let’s face it, she’s an Impressionism girl after our own hearts), each day offers a fabulous alternative to the stresses of being Logan Roy’s cherie. After selling his New York townhouse to Connor once and for all, we can see her extending her stay at the property’s penthouse suite, enjoying the private terrace with breathtaking views of the Sacré Coeur, quiet study, and comforting fireplace. Each day would be complemented by meals from three-starred Michelin Chef Eric Frechon and an evening swim at the property’s rooftop Spa and pool, finished off with treatments by La Prairie.” – Stephanie McClendon, Scott Dunn Europe Team Leader

GREG’S LUXE BACHELOR PAD
AT BAWAH RESERVE , ELANG PRIVATE RESIDENCE, INDONESIA

  • A dream beach getaway, Bawah Reserve is the ideal destination for making a Gregxit

“I would send Greg to Bawah Reserve, first of all, because after his disastrous congressional testimony on the scandal in cruises, he will never be let near any cruise ship again. At Bawah Reserve, where guests arrive via private seaplane and have direct access to the clear Indonesian sea from their overwater bungalows, Greg could have an unforgettable ocean getaway nonetheless. Secondly, after suing Greenpeace, he has some environmental atoning to do, and Bawah Reserve is a triumph in sustainable luxury. While enjoying meals made from locally-sourced ingredients, or admiring each suite’s gorgeous sustainably-crafted interiors, Greg would hopefully absorb Bawah Reserve’s earth first mindset. Perhaps Greg, if he ever gets the budget, could woo Comfrey by inviting her and her friends to stay with him at Bawah’s Elang Private Residence, which is newly opened and available for the exclusive hire of groups of up to 19 people, and features 6 adults-only cliffside lodges. Bawah Reserve is an incredible place to experience the seclusion of the remote, uncharted Anambas archipelago. It’s perfect for nature-lovers and adventurers looking to enjoy snorkeling, paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing, and diving in this incredible, unseen corner of the world.” — Jules Maury, Head of Scott Dunn Private

KENDALL’S VIP TREEHOUSE AT THE DREAMY XIGERA SAFARI LODGE, BOTSWANA

  • This remote African safari is complete with an elaborate treehouse, ideal for Kendall and guests of his choice. We recommend his children.

“Kendall needs to experience Xigera Safari Lodge in Botswana. At his infamous 40th birthday party, an elaborate reconstruction of Kendall’s childhood treehouse served as the VIP room. It was nothing compared to the Baobab Treehouse at Xigera, and surely Kendall would agree. A kilometer from the main lodge, this three-story treehouse is an architectural masterpiece and the only way to experience the African bush. Inside, Kendall would find a spiral staircase within the tree’s trunk, an open air deck, and private dining room for a sundown supper. Both the bedroom and bathroom spaces feature canvas walls that can be zipped open entirely, revealing gorgeous stargazing and the sounds of nearby animals. It’s Africa at its most raw – perfect for the most intense Roy kid. Xigera Safari Lodge is my recommendation for experiencing Botswana because with 12 suites, guests get a completely personalized safari, with no set times or itineraries. Plus, the lodge is quite the celebration of African art, culture, and creativity. It’s a living gallery of African talent.” — Meg Shepro, Scott Dunn Senior Travel Consultant, Africa

WILLA AND CONNOR’S WONDERFUL WEEKEND AT THE WOODWARD, GENEVA

  • With stunning lake views, a gorgeous spa, and proximity to the UN, The Woodward is certain to wow our favorite lovebirds

“Once he’s locked down his ambassadorship, Connor, with Willa at his side, should make short work of a trip from his home-base of Slovenia to The Woodward on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Connor will never be President, but the Woodward’s Presidential Suite with its stunning views of the lake, is an extraordinary consolation prize. The building dates back to 1901, and has been meticulously transformed by world-renowned architect, Pierre-Yves Rochon. Willa, I’m sure would appreciate the private terrace with views of Lake Geneva, and she deserves to enjoy the luxury, considering the honeymoon to America’s battleground states that Connor planned. I would arrange for Connor to enjoy the outdoor amenities offered by virtue of the Lake — perhaps a fishing or sailing trip. In the meantime, I would organize a visit to the Guerlain Spa for Willa, as it is the only one of its kind in Switzerland. She, I believe, would enjoy their exclusive “Spirit of Lake Geneva” treatment and perhaps a four-hand imperial massage.” — Stephanie McClendon,  Scott Dunn Europe Team Leader

SHIV ROY’S RELAXATION RETREAT AT MIAVANA BY TIME + TIDE

  • With private villas, in-room massages, and yoga classes in the forest, a trip to Miavana by Time + Tide may be the only way to decompress from the week Shiv Roy has just had…

“For Shiv, I would arrange a getaway to the private villas at Miavana by Time + Tide, which is situated on a remote island off-the-coast of Madagascar. Like Shiv, Miavana is luxurious though refined, and very, very private. I figure after what she has been put through this season, it offers the ideal way to decompress, first-footprint-in-the-sand morning beach strolls, yoga classes in the forest, and spa treatments brought to you in the seclusion of your own villa. It would offer, too, the luxury Shiv is accustomed to with personal butler service, panoramic floor to ceiling windows with ocean views, and private pools plus soaking tubs. Perfect for Shiv, too, Miavana by Time + Tide contributes to female empowerment initiatives led by the Time + Tide foundation that seek to help girls in Madagascar advance to top-boarding schools by improving their test-scores. Though Shiv may not be the most charitably-minded, I think that as the perpetually shafted Roy sister, this would be a cause close to her heart.”

LOGAN’S LAST HURRAH AT THE GLENEAGLES HOTEL

  • Featured in Season 2 Episode 8 of the show, the Scottish elegance and fine dining at Gleneagles made it a perfect stay for the King of Waystar.

“I envision a world where Logan Roy sneaks away unannounced back to Gleneagles (after the family’s visit in Season 2) to luxuriate in the silence of the Perthshire Countryside without the superfluous surprises and toasts arranged by Rhea during their first visit. I’d recommend checking into The Royal Lochnagar Suite, the hotel’s stand-out suite, spanning 1,646ft² with uninterrupted views across the rolling Ochil Hills. Although the carefully researched design details would likely be lost on Logan, it’s safe to assume he would welcome his own private marble entrance hallway and the ability to sprawl out in his room overlooking the Glendevon without Kendall, Roman, Shiv or Rhea disrupting his peace. It goes without saying that Logan would demand a reservation at Scotland’s only 2 Michelin Star restaurant on property, Andrew Fairlie, potentially followed by drinks at The American Bar ensconced in its cashmere wallpaper and sipping a scotch, neat. Although his reputation is not one of being particularly playful, I think the Glorious Playground would inspire him to participate in a few of the many countryside pursuits available on property, if only to expel some of his compounded frustrations with the family and old guards of Waystar. I would schedule for a day of clay shooting and perhaps off-road driving, followed by one of The Spa’s signature treatments, The Highland Healer, for some hot stone therapy to relax the tension caused by carrying the world’s economy on his shoulders.”   — Stephanie McClendon, Scott Dunn Europe Team Leader
