For 10 hours, the 17 teams, each composed of a chocolate maker, a sugar expert, and a master ice cream maker, created 42 tasting desserts and 3 artistic pieces on the theme of climate change.

Pierre Hermé, President of the contest, Cédric Grolet, Honorary President of this edition, as well as the entire Jury, were seduced by the creations of the Japanese team, and their work wind-based to respect the “Climate Change” theme of the Pastry World Cup.
All the members of the jury also rewarded the team spirit as well as the non-wasting of the products.

The level of the competition rises from one edition to the next, as evidenced by the very close results, attests Pierre Hermé, President of the Pastry World Cup. It is with great emotion that we award Japan, a country accustomed to the podium, which is back on the top 16 years after its last victory.”

All the candidates were very passionate, which is satisfying for me as a pastry chef, ” ads Cédric Grolet, Honorary President of the Pastry World Cup. “I would like to thank all the people who worked here, for having helped me rediscover this wonderful profession, which is on an everyday evolution, visually and technically.”

After finishing second on the podium for the last 5 editions, the team composed of Moe Takashi, Naritoshi Suzuka and Yusaku Shibata allows Japan to win this year on the first step of the podium. This victory allows the country of the Rising Sun to win its first gold medal since 2007 and to add a third World Cup to their list of achievements.

After having reached the third place during the 2021 edition, the French team, composed of Georges Kousanas, Jérémy Massing and Jana Lai, is once again on the podium during this 18th edition. A vice-champion title that rewards the excellent work done by the team during the events.

Italy, after having won 3 gold medals, once again gets a place on the podium. This 3rd place is all the more symbolic as the ice cream candidate, Martina Brachetti, is the first Italian woman to be selected for the World Pastry Cup.

Gene describes this project as “A reintroduction and full circle moment.” During the adolescent stage of his career, he ponders on previous performances at the iconic venue. Constantly honing his craft and cultivating a strong fanbase, this was an opportunity tailored to the gifted artist who had just finished a tour with the legendary Sting.

Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Gene Noble kicks off the new year with his latest album, Feel A Way. The New York-bred vocalist shares his highly-anticipated LP, which builds on the momentum of “Whatever It Is” released at the tail end of 2022.

After taking to social media to let fans know about his future release plans, Gene is ready to turn the page on a new chapter in his sonics. Feel A Way seizes on both the creative and personal liberation that Gene has experienced over the years. The album’s eight tracks are an anecdote of self-reflection as he comes to terms with the reality of working through his feelings.

On the new LP, Gene explains:
“This whole project is full of songs that I’ve recorded literally around the world. It’s me being in different feels, in different moments, and having different thoughts.”

Unlike anything he’s shared previously, Feel A Way is a sonic journey through acceptance and forgiveness, baring his process of growth as Gene looks inward for an unconditional love.

Alongside the release of his new score, Gene has kicked off his Feel A Way album release shows to support his new project, starting yesterday (Jan 19) at SOB’s in New York. The release shows will conclude in Atlanta’s Center Stage Theater on January 23rd. As a touring artist, the soulful crooner has developed a reputation for his one-of-a-kind singing voice. He has this unique ability to connect with listeners on a personal level. His music is relatable, addressing topics that hit close to home and the heart.

About Gene Noble:

Gene Noble is the most experienced “newcomer” in R&B music today. As he continues the lineage of artistry that runs deep in his family – both of Gene’s parents were singers – the New York-born crooner got his start by singing out of local venues before getting his first “big break” performing alongside Lauryn Hill. This defining moment in his career would prove to be a precursor for what lies ahead, allowing Gene to hone in on a natural talent that changed his life for the better. From open mics at the Village Underground to taking center stage with Sting to perform a live mashup of “Shape of My Heart” and “Lucid Dreams,” Gene’s church-trained vocals have allowed him to travel the world (touring with the likes of Usher, Chris Brown and more) while creating a shared moment with each and every one of his fans. In 2020, he took the music scene by storm with “Matching Tattoos” – which was released on National Tattoo Day, Jul 17 – a fan favorite score that serves as the quintessential showcase of Gene’s signature falsetto. Since then, he’s continued to deliver next-level covers and original tracks that have earwormed their way into the hearts of listeners.

HENRY SANDON PRIVATE COLLECTION

PRIVATE COLLECTION OF BBC ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’S MUCH LOVED EXPERT HENRY SANDON (MBE) HEADS TO AUCTION

Ceramics and pottery spanning decades to be offered

Ceramics specialist and antiques expert Henry Sandon (MBE)

Chorley’s auctioneers is delighted to announce that it will offer the private collection of BBC Antiques Roadshow’s long-serving expert, Henry Sandon (MBE), known for his passion for porcelain and pottery and in particular, Royal Worcester porcelain. The prized collection of many of his treasured pieces will be offered in a sale titled The Henry Sandon Ceramic Study Collection at Chorley’s on Tuesday, 18th April, 2023

Featured image: An important Royal Worcester plate by famous Worcester artist Harry Stinton (1883-1968)

Estimate £1,000-£1,400

As well as being a world-recognised antiques expert, Henry Sandon (b. 1928) is an author and former lecturer, as well as the father of the renowned TV ceramics expert John Sandon. He began his career with an interest in archaeology, which offered a deep insight into the world of ceramics from all countries, cultures and decades. In 1967 he was appointed curator of the Dyson Perrins Museum at the Royal Worcester Factory, a position he held until 1982, but he is most well-known for his role as an antiques expert on the long-running BBC television show Antiques Roadshow.

Speaking about his passion for ceramics and his extensive collection, Henry says: “I wanted to title my collection ‘Ancient and Modern’ like the hymnbook, for it was choral music that brought me to Worcester. I came to teach at the grammar school and to sing in the wonderful cathedral choir, and once in Worcester, I discovered ceramics everywhere. I dug up Roman and Medieval pots in my garden by the Cathedral and was captivated by their history. Digging up broken pots led me to attend local auctions and antique shops filled with Worcester porcelain.

I also discovered modern pottery. Geoffrey Whiting, one of Britain’s greatest Studio Potters, held classes in Worcester. I was a terrible pupil, but from Geoffrey Whiting I learned to love his pots and those of many other modern potters, who became good friends. In 1967 the Museum of Royal Worcester needed a new curator and my enthusiasm got me the job that changed my life.

A Royal Worcester vase by famed Worcester artist Harry Davis (1885-1970). Estimate £800-£1,200.

I learnt the history of Worcester porcelain from scratch, helped by wonderful mentors, three of whom gave me the same advice: Jim Kiddell from Sotheby’s, the great collector Dr Bernard Watney and my dear friend Geoffrey Godden all told me that the best way to learn about ceramics was to form a study collection. It didn’t matter that I could only afford damaged examples of the early pottery I coveted. I knew it was important to buy as much as I could and to hold it and live with it. These experts would come to the museum to help me sort the finds from my important excavations on the site of the earliest Worcester china factory. At this time, fifty years ago, Worcester still had a flourishing china factory. I spent much of my time taking important visitors around the factory and meeting the great artists who had spent their entire lives working at the porcelain works. People like the modeller Doris Lindner and the painter Daisy Rea had so many wonderful stories to tell. Above all, I cherish every moment I was able to spend with Harry Davis, who I believe was the greatest porcelain painter of all time.

Attending sales at Bruton Knowles I met and became a special friend of the legendary Arthur Negus.” Arthur Negus (1903-1985) was the first ‘Television Antiques Expert’, having starred in the popular antiques TV show Going for a Song. He took part in the pilot for the Antiques Roadshow in 1977 and was an immediate hit with viewers. This was the beginning of a brand-new genre in television, but no one could have predicted its enduring appeal to this day.

Henry continues: “We got on really well and Arthur showed me that a passion and enthusiasm like ours would rub off on others, through lectures and through the new medium of television. For Birmingham University I began teaching evening classes covering the whole history of ceramics and instead of using slides like most lecturers, I took along actual pieces from my rapidly expanding study collection, pots my students could hold for themselves.

Meanwhile appearances with Arthur Negus on Going for a Song and Arthur Negus Enjoys, led me to join, in 1979, The Antiques Roadshow, which gave me a chance to share my love of ceramics with a massive audience around the world.

A north coast Peruvian stirrup vessel in the form of a seated warrior holding a club, dating from circa 200-600 AD.

Estimate £300-£400.

I had to sell part of my study collection forty years ago when I went to Canada as the Director of The George Gardiner Museum in Toronto, one of the world’s leading centres for the study of ceramics of all kinds. When I returned to Worcester I gave special encouragement to many new manufactories of ceramics, where I found traditional skills were still preserved, but struggling to survive in tough conditions. My name and enthusiasm for real craftsmanship helped British ceramics factories large and small and for my efforts I was rewarded with an MBE from the Queen for services to Charity and to the Ceramics Industry. Now that I am older than most of the ceramics in my collection, I am no longer able to pick up and hold and cherish every one of the hundreds of pieces I have lived with all around me. I need other people to help care for me now and so it’s time to find new owners to care for all my beloved pots. I have known Simon Chorley way back since Arthur Negus’s days and so I asked him to organise this sale. Apart from just a few special favourites for my family to treasure, it is time for all of my pots to join new study collections.”

Titled The Henry Sandon Ceramic Study Collection, the auction will include many examples by Worcester artists that Henry describes above, particularly by his great friend, the late Harry Davis, as well as more modern studio pieces by another friend, Geoffrey Whiting. Pots from 2000BC to the present day will grace Henry Sandon’s sale and people will have the opportunity to buy a piece of history, as well as a memento of one of our ‘National Treasures’.

Among the highlights is an important Royal Worcester plate by Harry Stinton (1883-1968), a member of one of the most famous Worcester families of artists – the Stintons painted at the factory for almost 160 years.

A stoneware vase by the revered studio potter Geoffrey Whiting (1919-1988). Estimate £300–£500.

The plate in the sale is from a service commissioned in 1928, by the founder of another famous family, William Keith Kellogg (1860-1951) of the legendary cereal company, trading as Kellogg’s. Kellogg ordered two sets, both comprising just 25 plates, painted by Royal Worcester’s two best artists. The costly red background on the plates was chosen to match the colour of the famous Kellogg’s logo.

In 1985 Henry Sandon advised on the sale of the service, being offered in sets of twelve plates, and was allowed to choose the one ‘spare’ plate of each design for himself. The current example is the one he chose. It features a rich border with raised gilding and in the centre is a watermill in a snow scene. It is signed by Harry Stinton and carries an estimate of £1,000-£1,400.

Another important piece in the sale is a Royal Worcester vase by the famed Worcester artist Harry Davis (1885-1970). In his last years, Harry became a great friend of Henry Sandon. Harry had started  at the Worcester factory aged just 13 and soon gained a wonderful reputation for his work. In time, Harry became foreman of the ‘Men’s Painters department’ at the factory, as well as teaching apprentices joining Royal Worcester.

In 1928 Harry Davis helped Harry Stinton with the Kellogg’s service and in 1938 he painted a vase for the Australian cricketer Sir Donald Bradman to commemorate his three double centuries on the New Road Ground at Worcester. Henry Sandon was later to enjoy a wonderful correspondence with Don Bradman about cricket and the incredible Harry Davis vase and in 2004 Henry travelled to Australia to see the Bradman Vase for himself. Harry Davis created a very different vase in Henry’s sale featuring a stag in a snow scene in experimental sunset colouring. Painted by Harry Davis in 1921, Henry acquired the vase from the artist himself and it is estimated to fetch £800-£1,200.

A toby jug in the form of Henry Sandon by Staffordshire maker Kevin Francis Ceramics. Estimate £50-£100.

A stoneware vase by the celebrated studio potter Geoffrey Whiting (1919-1988) also features in the sale. Northumberland-born Geoffrey trained as an architect but fell in love with the craft of pottery and set up his own pottery in Worcestershire. Henry Sandon is passionate about Geoffrey Whiting’s pots and lent a number of his pieces to the Whiting Retrospective Exhibition, including this slab-form vase, which has ‘resist’ decoration made using a lost-wax technique. The vase carries an estimate of £300-£500.

An example of one of the older pieces in the collection, is a north coast Peruvian stirrup vessel in the form of a seated warrior holding a club. From the Mochica (Moche) culture, it dates from circa 200-600 AD and is estimated to fetch £300-£400. A fun addition to the sale is a toby jug in the form of Henry Sandon by Staffordshire maker Kevin Francis Ceramics. The jug features experimental colours and was not put into production, making it truly unique. It carries an estimate of £50-£100.

Simon Chorley, commenting on the collection says: “Chorley’s is delighted to have been instructed to sell the collection, as we have had a wonderful, long-standing relationship with both Henry and Arthur.” He tells us: “I first met Henry Sandon at the Three Choirs Festival at Gloucester in 1965. I was a chorister at Gloucester Cathedral, while Henry was a Lay Clerk at Worcester. In the early 1970s I joined the firm Bruton Knowles and was under the wing of Arthur Negus. Henry often attended auctions and occasionally met and chatted with Arthur.

It was marvellous to see both experts really enjoying beautiful objects throughout their many appearances on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow. After Arthur’s death in 1985, I was involved with arranging the auction of his treasured collection. Henry very much enjoyed that sale and it is now a privilege for me to be involved in arranging Henry’s sale. In 2002 I was invited as a guest to This is Your Life, where Henry Sandon was the surprised recipient of the ‘Red Book’ and the final surprise guest was Anne, Arthur Negus’ daughter. She enthused about her late father’s great friendship with Henry and is now thrilled that Chorley’s are conducting Henry’s auction, a conclusion to the two friends’ and magnificent broadcasters’ life-long enjoyment of collecting.”

ICE SPICE – LIKE..?

LISTEN HERE

Named after one of her signature catchphrases, Like..? is the best showcase yet for the 23-year-old artist’s defiant charm, packed with Instagram-caption worthy couplets written by Ice Spice and inventive instrumentals from Ice and her frequent collaborator and EP executive producer RIOTUSA.

Last year saw Ice Spice establish herself as one of the most notable names in the rap game. The New Year’s, 2000, baby came out of 2022 as TikTok’s #1 Emerging Artist of the Year, Vevo’s 2023 DSCVR Artist to Watch, Shazam’s Top 2023 Artist Prediction, Billboard’s Hip Hop Rookie of the month and rounded out 2022 as BET’s Amplified Artist of the month. Today, Ice Spice can boast over 168 million global streams, and she has received critical praise from The New York TimesPitchforkRolling StoneSpotifyThe FADERREVOLT, NPR, and more.

Home to her three breakout viral hits – “Munch (Feelin U),” “Bikini Bottom,” and the recent “In Ha Mood” – Like..? adds three new infectious bangers to the burgeoning Ice Spice canon. “Gangsta Boo with Lil Tjay” is a bass-boosted collaboration with fellow Bronx native Lil Tjay, transforming Diddy’s 2000 hit “I Need A Girl Pt. 2” into a drill love song. “Actin’ A Smoochie” embraces the Jersey club sound that defines the Bronx scene, creating a party anthem that explores another popular bit of NYC slang. The percolating “Princess Diana” combines a signature RIOT melody with some of Ice’s best bars, commenting on her it girl status: “Nowadays I be duckin’ them cameras/And they hot that I’m up on ’em banners/Callin’ my phone but they know I don’t answer/In the hood, I’m like Princess Diana.”

Hi-Rez HERE

Like.? arrives hot on the heels of “In Ha Mood,” Ice’s third straight viral hit, which gained traction on social media over the holidays. Ballet Pumps Searches Skyrocket

Global searches for ‘ballet pumps’ skyrocket 742% after Bella Hadid’s post on Instagram

A new finding by Boohoo reveals that online interest in ballet pumps skyrocketed 742% worldwide on the 18th of January, hours after Bella Hadid posted a stylishly posed photo wearing a pair of white satin ballet bumps.

Searches for ‘ballet core’ also skyrocketed 1,424% worldwide, and searches for ‘Miu Miu ballet pumps’ increased by 614% worldwide, proving how many of Hadid’s followers wanted to get their hands on a pair.

The analysis reveals that online interest in the ballet-core fashion trend exploded after the American supermodel posted the photo to her 57 million followers.

The image captioned ’17 hour flight to work’ showed Hadid pairing a sheer lilac geometric patterned top with a raspberry red midi skirt and a pair of Miu Miu white satin ballet pumps and lilac socks.

The ballet core fashion trend is a hyper-feminine styling take on all thing’s ballet and dance, with the focus remaining on the clothing dancers wear during training and performing such as ballet pumps and leotards.

A spokesperson for Boohoo commented:

“The ballet core style is on the rise and with huge celebrities such as Bella Hadid posting on Instagram her effortless take on the trend. It is a testament to not only the style, but also Hadid herself that a single post can cause such a rise in interest.

Although the trend is emblematic of nineties and early noughties style, the aesthetic was worn by many celebrities throughout last year, especially at the 2022 Met Gala. The theme for the Gala was ‘Gilded Glamour’, and saw celebrities such as Tessa Thompson, Billie Eilish and Emma Stone sport gorgeous looks inspired by ballerinas.”

Hottest Fashion Trends

As we wave goodbye to 2022 and welcome in the New Year, one thing on many people’s to-do lists is creating a wardrobe that will not only impress but serve a purpose all year long.

Fashion experts at Boohoo have predicted the top trends of 2023 in the hopes of helping prepare your capsule wardrobes, de-clutter and donate any out-of-fashion pieces and give insight into what’s trending in 2023.

Biker Girl

The biker trend stems from pulling nostalgic leather and grunge-style pieces, incorporating them into everyday wear, and spicing up a party look. The trend is often seen when mixing feminine silhouettes with boxy oversized leather pieces. Celebrity fashion favourites such as Sydney Sweeney and Hailey Bieber are often seen stepping out in biker-style outfits, proving just how popular the biker look is and will be this year.

Searches for ‘leather pants’ are at an average of 129,000 times a month in the U.S., alongside searches for ‘biker jacket’ seeing a 101% increase over the past 90 days and searches for ‘biker boots’ increased by 165% over the past month.

Flashy Metallics

At the end of last year, we saw the re-introduction of all things metallic, with silver taking over the internet and the runway. The style has already become an obsession on social media, especially on TikTok. The hashtag #silveroutfit has surpassed over three million views, and #metallicoutfits also reached an impressive 595,200 views.

Many might believe shiny metallic outfits are just for the sparkle season at Christmas, but that is not the case. It is also not just limited to gold and silver pieces as the industry is seeing more and more colours venturing into popularity. Violets, baby blues and shimmery greens have all popped onto the radar recently, which means the high-shine style is set to be big in 2023.

Cowboy Core

Cowboy core was extremely popular throughout all the seasons last year, and it is here to stay. Western-style pieces are a great way to inject some fun and sass into your 2023 wardrobe; whether it be a pair of statement cowboy boots, a studded suede vest or an oversized plaid shirt, this trend is set to stick.

Something particular that caught fans’ eyes is Margot Robbie. Whilst filming for her upcoming movie Barbie, the actress, paired a neon pink western-style two-piece with a white cowboy hat and matching bandana. Another celebrity that hugely influenced Cowboy Core is Harry Styles after appearing at multiple of his concerts wearing cowboy hats. Fans swooned over him at his concerts while wearing cowboy hats and feather boas, which increased searches for ‘cowgirl hat’ in the US to increase 117%.

Cargo Couture

Practicality in fashion is essential for some when it comes to styling outfits which is why the cargo trend is back and better than ever. Cargo pants give the perfect baggy silhouette whilst also providing comfort, and many styles come equipped with deep pockets, which is ideal for those who like to travel light.

Searches in the U.S searches for ‘cargo pants’ are at an average 306,000 times per month in America. Cargo skirts have also started to pop up on the scene, and searches for ‘cargo skirt’ over the past month have increased by 123%, proving the trend’s popularity.

Barbie Core

This girly aesthetic based on Mattel Barbie dolls is definitely one for those that love a preppy, bold and bright outfit. This trend is mainly focused on bubblegum pink and fuchsia pieces inspired by all things girly, which was a huge trend in the early 2000s.

With Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie set to hit our screens later this year, we can expect to see hot-pink styles all over social media this year.

Playful Professional

If a capsule wardrobe is more suited to your lifestyle, playful blazers and two-piece suits are a great way to stay classy and fun both in and out of the office this year. The style has taken over TikTok, with thousands of users showing off their outfits of the day and inspirational style videos showing how to style the playful professional trend. The hashtag #blazeroutfit has surpassed 320.8 million views on the platform.

K-Pop superstars TWICE return today with their first release of 2023, “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE,” via 360 MAGAZINE.

TWICE – MOONLIGHT SUNRISE

K-Pop superstars TWICE return today with their first release of 2023, “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE,” via JYP Entertainment/Imperial/Republic Records, on all digital and streaming platforms. Stream the track HERE; watch the music video HERE.

“MOONLIGHT SUNRISE” is the group’s second English single, following the massive success of their first English single – 2021’s smash hit “The Feels,” which marked the K-Pop powerhouses’ first career entry on The Billboard Hot 100 (#83) and earned the group multiple top 10 placements across various charts. “The Feels” also earned TWICE their first U.S. gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Written, composed, and arranged by K-Pop hit makers earattack and Lee Woo Hyun, “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE” is a pre-release from TWICE’s highly anticipated 12th mini album, due out in March. Nina Ann Nelson and Kaedi Dalley (of female acappella group Citizen Queen) also participated in the track’s writing and composition. The Miami bass-based pop song explores the feelings and excitement of falling in love with lyrics such as “baby come be my starlight moonlight sunrise” and “If I’m your moonlight you’re my sunrise babe,” alongside the music video’s dreamy, charming visuals.

TWICE is heading into the new year strong, following what was a massive, record-breaking 2022. Last year, the group was the most-streamed female K-Pop group on Spotify (US), and, in 2022 alone, they accumulated nearly 300 million steams (with cumulative streams of over 5.5 billion, to date). They were also nominated for three major music awards in 2022 – an MTV Video Music Award for “Best K-Pop,” an American Music Award for “Favorite K-Pop Artist,” and an MTV Europe  Music Award for “Best K-Pop.”

TWICE kicked off 2022 with their 4TH WORLD TOUR Ⅲ in the United States where they played five cities – Los Angeles (The Forum), Oakland (Oakland Arena), Fort Worth (Dickies Arena), Atlanta (State Farm Arena), and New York (UBS Arena) –  including two shows in both Los Angeles and New York due to popular demand. All seven shows sold out just hours after on sale, and made TWICE the first female K-Pop group to sell out two North American arena tours. Following this massive success, TWICE returned to the States in May to play back-to-back, sold-out encore performances at Los Angeles’ Banc of California Stadium. These performances were a major milestone for the group, as they made TWICE the first female K-Pop group to play a North American stadium.

In August 2022, they released their 11th EP, BETWEEN 1&2The EP entered the Billboard 200 Album Chart at #3 and holds the biggest pure sales week for an album by a female K-Pop act in the U.S., which further extends TWICE’s record for the most top 10 debuts on the chart among all K-Pop female acts. Additionally, the mini album’s 2022 sales totaled 199,000, earning TWICE the #6 spot on 2022’s Top CD Albums Sales chart; they were the only K-Pop girl group to enter the chart last year. BETWEEN 1&2’s lead single “Talk that Talk” also performed well, reaching top 20 on Billboard’s Global 200 chart, and top 10 on Billboard’s Global Excl. US chart. The single is tied with “The Feels” as their highest charting single on the latter chart.

“MOONLIGHT SUNRISE” is out now via all digital and streaming platforms. Stream the track HERE.
