Tailwind Air inside 360 MAGAZINE

FLY TAILWIND

Listen to 360 Magazine’s President Vaughn Lowery chat with one of Tailwind Air’s Co-Founders and VP of Marketing and Director of Schedule Services Peter Manice on the 360 MAG Podcast HERE.

Crafting an unforgettable experience in the air, Tailwind Air is a seaplane charter airline revolutionizing travel as we know it. As a veteran-owned businesses, they operate out of Westchester Airport and Bridgeport. Tailwind is the perfect alternative for those looking for a quicker, more individualized travel plan.

Flying out of Manhattan previously was a hard, time-consuming task, but not anymore. Tailwind has been proven to be the swiftest way to fly out Manhattan, with stunning views of the entire city. Shuttles conveniently transport guests to Boston Harbor, Bridgeport, CT, or 3 separate destinations in the Hamptons.

“We always had a vision for bringing more direct and faster service between cities.” – Peter Manice

Each seaplane at Tailwind Air is a clean amphibian aircraft, adorned with a quiet cabin that comfortably seats 8. Aircrafts have the ability to land atop land or water and are united by two pilots and stunning views along the way. Operating under FAA standards, passengers are allowed one bag under the weight of 20lbs to security for all those aboard.

Tailwind, too, operates an array of seaplane charters to locations like Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island, Fishers Island, Upstate New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Virginia.

Vaughn Lowery had the opportunity to ride aboard one of Tailwind’s seaplanes. After arriving at the New York Skyports Seaplane Base, the seaport had a waiting room area for guests. Once inside the lounge, snacks and refreshments were available for passengers awaiting to board.

Guests were greeted with a gate/seaport agent upon embarquement to the aircraft. Once everyone boarded the plane, it took a short 15 seconds to rise into the air from the sea. Leaving Manhattan and setting out towards Bridgeport, CT, the stunning viewpoint of the entire city was a highlight of the trip.

After landing and docking, Vaughn was able to enjoy shopping and culinary greatness in Bridgeport.

“In desperate need for some retail therapy … I decided to indulge in a bespoke experience with my treasured leatherware brand, Coach–under the creative direction of Stuart Vevers since 2014. Their league messenger spoke to me so I had it personalized with hardware and vanity tags … Not to mention, we made it back in time to witness an MLB game at Yankee Stadium. Cincinnati Reds were in a pickle!” – Vaughn Lowery

With an exclusive water taxi available to move through Tailwind’s Boston location, trekking to your seaplane is an easy and enjoyable experience. You can now forget the stress of traffic and airports with the convenience of Tailwind’s seaplanes. Hail the water taxi easily via phone for retrieval before heading back to the docking air station.

Once aboard, each seaplane is equipped with seat belts, air conditioning, noise reduction headsets, aisle and window access, and an unforgettable view of New York City, Boston, and New England. Extra face masks are available for passengers to ensure proper protection.

In a limited summer package deal, Tailwind is offering buy one flight and get another free! Through July 21, visitors can buy one ticket and in return obtain one free Boston-Manhattan flight. Departures range from July 4 to September 5. Seaplane season is in full affect, with the summer months being the best time for flight. Tailwind discontinues travel during the winter months of December to March to ensure safety of guests and pilots. There’s no time like now to fly with Tailwind!

MERCYLAND – WE NEVER LOST A SINGLE GAME

Legendary Athens, GA post-punk trio Mercyland has announced the upcoming release of their long-overdue final album, We Never Lost a Single Game, arriving via Propeller Sound Recordings on Friday, September 16. Pre-orders are available now.

Featuring nine songs originally recorded in 1990 but shelved following Mercyland’s 1991 dissolution, We Never Lost A Single Game is heralded by today’s premiere of “Uncle,” available now at all DSPs and streaming services. An official lyric video – featuring historical footage from the band’s 1980s heyday – is streaming now on YouTube.

PRE-ORDER WE NEVER LOST A SINGLE GAME

Formed in 1985 in Athens, Ga., by vocalist/bassist David Barbe (later invited by Bob Mould to join Sugar and now an award-winning producer/engineer known for his work with Drive-By Truckers, Superchunk, Gregg Allman, and Deerhunter, to name but a few), Mercyland played a visceral style of post-punk that was both perfectly contemporary and quite ahead of its time. The trio, which also featured guitarist Andrew Donaldson and drummer Joel Suttles, took inspiration from such American underground peers as Hüsker Dü, Dinosaur Jr, and The Replacements while expertly synthesizing those influences into a coruscating, adrenaline-charged sound all its own.

Known for their exhilarating live performances at such renowned venues as Athens, GA’s famed 40 Watt, Mercyland’s lone full-length release, 1989’s No Feet on the Cowling, seemingly tipped the band for a higher profile, especially as major labels began turning their attentions to bourgeoning indie and alternative scenes across the country. Instead, Mercyland broke up in 1991, relegating music recorded for a planned second album to be released on a series of now-rare 7-inch singles and compilations. Three decades later, these remarkable nine songs have been remixed by Barbe and reassembled as We Never Lost a Single Game, providing a crucial historical document of this criminally unknown band.

Songs such as “Tough Ass Knives” and the album-opening Mercyland manifesto, “Minutes and Parts,” see the band nodding to the jagged rhythms coming out of the Washington, D.C. post-hardcore scene while simultaneously shrugging off parameters and expectations in search of something visionary and impossible to pigeonhole.

“We’d call our music punk rock,” Barbe says, “because to us that meant a kind of music that was independent, but it didn’t have to be leather jackets, spiked hair, and ‘fuck you.’You don‘t have to be bound by anything just because other people use it as a constrictive device. For me, the simplicity of the format allowed me to go anywhere I wanted to.

Having spent the years that followed Mercyland working as producer, engineer, writer, and musician on hundreds of projects by a wide range of artists at his Chase Park Transduction independent recording studio in Athens, Barbe is thrilled to have revisited the band’s still-striking music so long after its initial creation, with We Never Lost A Single Game now standing tall as a fascinating, alternate-universe peek at what might have been.

Nowadays, my job is taking what people have in their head and helping that come out of somebody’s speakers,Barbe says, “but at the time, I wasn’t an engineer and I never felt happy with the way our stuff sounded. The techniques that were popular in studios in the late 80′ were not what we were after. I stripped it down and got it back to what we intended it to be in the first place. I just didn’t have a way to convey that to other people back then.

Speaking about getting back out on the road, SG Lewis reveals, “After years of tentative touring and cautious planning, I’m unbelievably excited to finally announce my first full US tour since 2019. I’m buzzing to be playing in some cities I’ve wanted to visit for so long, and so excited to bring you a completely new live show.

The local presale begins tomorrow, Wednesday July 13th at 10 AM, through Thursday July 14th at 10 PM local time, followed by an exclusive Spotify Presale on Thursday, 10 AM – 10 PM local time. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Friday, July 15th at 10 AM local time. For a full list of upcoming live dates and to purchase tickets, please visit www.sglewismusic.com.

These headlining dates will follow his previously announced live shows this summer, including his return to the beloved Palm Springs pool party festival Splash House on Saturday, August 13, and festival performances at Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas (TICKETS) on Friday, September 16 and the Portola Festival in San Francisco (TICKETS) on Sunday September 25.

Last week, SG Lewis returned with two brand new singles: the nocturnal dancefloor-filler ‘Missing You‘ and the italo-influenced anthem ‘Something About Your Love.’ Right out of the gate, ‘Missing You,’ which The FADER hailed as an “80s synth-rave carried on the back of a snappy Linn drum-sprinkled beat that would make Starboy-era The Weeknd salivate,” reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave with a chantable chorus, “I’m not missing you like I’m supposed to.” On the flip side, ‘Something About Your Love‘ fuses a funk-inflected bass line and tambourine with a luminous refrain. The release was celebrated by Dancing Astronaut, who said “Altogether, Missing You / Something About Your Love affirms SG Lewis‘ status as a musical auteur with a knack for merging the sounds of earlier decades with today’s sonics in an ever novel, dance floor-facing fashion.” Both tracks are available to buy/stream as a double A-side single today via Astralwerks.

Listen to ‘Missing You / Something About Your Love’ HERE.

Ushering in a brand-new chapter, the 70s and 80s have provided a rich seam of inspiration for contemporary artists like SG Lewis (real name Sam Lewis) and nowhere is this more potent than today’s releases. Missing You‘ illuminates Lewis‘ unmatched ability to take underground club music somewhere fresh and towards a new generation and reaches for dancefloor glory with its shimmering synths and neon bass line, nodding to eighties new wave in timeless pop ecstasy. On the other end of the spectrum, the Daft Punk inspired Something About Your Love‘ showcases 70s-era drums, a funk-inflected bass hook, disco-styled groove, and a luminous refrain. Both tracks are classic but deeply contemporary cuts with one suited to the adrenaline rush of your wildest night out, and the other to the blissful ride home at sunrise. This duality is a theme that permeates SG Lewis‘ new era.

Speaking about ‘Missing You,‘ SG Lewis reveals, “Conceptually, it felt like the perfect introduction. It’s a story about temptation and dwindling fear. Your eyes are wandering.” On ‘Something About Your Love,’ SG adds “It’s no secret I’m a massive Daft Punk fan. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever made to a tribute to them. I was listening to Discovery a lot, and there’s a specific technique to it. I chopped up the sample of these seventies keys and drums. It came together easily. Lyrically, It’s a pure confession of admiration for someone. It’s the perfect contrast to ‘Missing You’.

The new tracks follow on from Sam’s debut record times, released during lockdown last year, which found one of modern pop’s secret weapons stepping out front and center, taking listeners on a voyage through soaring electronic dance and kaleidoscopic future disco with a blockbuster collection of guests. Features included Robyn and Channel Tres on ‘Impact‘ (“a house track so physical your feet may begin to move involuntarily,” according to NPR), Nile Rodgers on ‘One More‘ and Lucky Daye on fan favorite Feed The Fire.’ The album received widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork (who hailed it as “a pristine album”), NPR, Billboard, NME, GQ and much more, with LP highlight track ‘Chemicals‘ amassing over 55 million Spotify streams and counting, catapulting SG Lewis‘ total stream count to over 1.4 billion.

SG Lewis has cemented his status as one music’s most sought-after producers and has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Dua Lipa, Clairo, Tove Lo, Khalid, Aluna, Victoria Monet, Raye, Ray BLK, The Neptunes/N.E.R.D’s Chad Hugo, Gerd Janson, Conducta + many more. Louis Vuitton also launched their pre-Fall campaign with Soulwax’s remix of ‘Impact’ earlier this month and Sam is well regarded in fashion circles, attending, and performing an array of parties across his illustrious career. Behind the scenes, he also produced Dave’s seminal breakout track 100’M’s’ and co-wrote ‘Hallucinate‘ for Dua Lipa‘s record-smashing number one album, Future Nostalgia. Sam has sold out headline shows across the US, Asia, Australia, and Europe as well as multiple festival appearances including prime-time slots at Coachella and Glastonbury – his raucous live shows not only make him one of London’s hottest talents, but also a formidable artist capable of making a splash on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond.

Reebok "Heritage" releases on July 14 via Reebok for use by 360 MAGAZINE

REEBOK – HERITAGE

Reebok today has confirmed a July 14 release for its Pump Omni Zone II “Heritage” ($160, HR0035) via Reebok and select retailers.

Made famous in the early ‘90s by Boston guard and longtime brand athlete Dee Brown, upon its release Reebok’s Pump Omni Zone II sneaker and custom-fit Pump technology launched an industry-wide innovation race that forever changed the trajectory of sneaker history.

30 years later, on the heels of multiple anniversary releases, OG bring backs, and new color stories, Pump Omni Zone II “Heritage” celebrates Reebok. Made up in classic chalk, Vector red, and Vector blue brand colors, the model offers a clean, archival Reebok aesthetic with retro basketball and innovation at its core.

Reebok’s Pump Omni Zone II “Heritage” ($160, HR0035) is available beginning July 14 from Reebok and select retailers.

More on Dee Brown and the rise of Pump: On February 9, 1991, Boston rookie point guard Dee Brown stepped onto the hardwood in front of a buzzing dunk contest crowd. Sizing up the rim, he set the ball on the playing surface, reached down with both hands and primed the “Pumps” on his Pump Omni Zone II sneakers, turning his head up to the crowd with a grin as he locked in his custom fit and prepared for takeoff. That night, Reebok’s “Pump” technology became a cultural phenomenon, as Brown became only the second rookie in dunk contest history to win the elusive title. A few years earlier, in the late ‘80s, Pump” was introduced on “The Pump” basketball shoe by the “Reebok Advanced Concepts” (RAC) team, marking the brand’s true foray onto the hardwood. “Pump” was the first tech of its kind, integrating within the shoe an inflatable chamber that enabled wearers to create their own custom fit. With the help of  Dee Brown on that historic night in 1991, “Pump” gained international allure and quickly became the go-to sneaker for pro athletes everywhere.

H.R. OWEN – ETTORE’S

H.R. Owen Bugatti has today announced the official launch of Ettore’s Espresso Bar, the most exclusive coffee spot in London. As the first Bugatti dealership anywhere in the world to have its own espresso bar, H.R. Owen Bugatti, which normally operates by invitation-only, has opened its doors to the public for the first time.

Based at the French luxury marque’s London showroom in Bruton Street, Mayfair, Ettore’s Espresso Bar has been aptly named after the founder and patron of Bugatti, Ettore Bugatti. Ettore was a man who opted for only the very best in everything he did, not just for his ingenious cars, but also for bicycle frames, razors and locks – if he didn’t find a product that fit his standards, he would design his own. Ettore’s Espresso Bar is designed in his image, with a top-end Italian espresso machine – a nod to Ettore’s Italian birthplace – and a trained barista to serve up luxurious coffees to passers-by. With the backdrop of an example of one of Bugatti’s latest range of hyper sports cars and a showroom filled with beautifully crafted Bugatti Home Collection furniture, it’s one of the most extraordinary coffee spots in London.

The staples of Cappuccino, Espresso, Latte, Americano, Flat White and Macchiato are all available but the pièce de résistance is The Ettore Shot, an Espresso served in a Bugatti Carbon Fibre Espresso cup. Clients who purchase The Ettore Shot, priced at £50, will be allowed full access to the lounge of the London showroom and see the Bugatti – on static display – up close, as well as being able to learn more about the French luxury brand through the brand ambassadors based there.

The lounge is furnished with specially designed Bugatti armchairs, which are made using the finest leather and blue-tinted carbon fibre – the same high-spec materials that feature in Bugatti’s cars. Alongside the present and future, the showroom lounge also reflects Bugatti’s history and heritage, through a selection of art installations and sculptures that celebrate the brand beyond the cars. H.R. Owen Bugatti is more than just a car showroom; it is designed to convey a shared passion for the Bugatti brand and everything it stands for

In addition to Ettore’s Espresso Bar, visitors to the showroom can explore a wide variety of Bugatti merchandise options, from baseball caps and pens, to VIITA for Bugatti smart watches.

H.R. Owen is the UK’s leading luxury motor dealer group, representing some of the world’s most sought-after brands including Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, BAC, Czinger, Rimac and Radford.

Regenerative braking has been successfully implemented for TE-1, with scope for further optimisation, as well as greater efficiencies in the motor generator unit and transmission, which could improve the range further for the future of Triumph electric motorcycles.

Game-changing 20-minute charge time

Advances in battery and charging technologies that have been developed as part of the Triumph TE-1 project, in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE), have resulted in a game-changing 20-minute charge time (0-80%), successfully delivering against the ambitious targets laid out by Innovate UK, the government’s research and innovation agency that supports business led R&D funding and UK business growth.

“WAE are delighted to have been involved in this exciting programme to deliver the TE-1 prototype. Since its conception in 2018, all the partners have worked with collaboration, innovation and passion to bring the boundary breaking prototype to life. It is pleasing to hear positive rider comments which confirms that the dynamics of the bike are aligned with Triumph’s DNA. This has been underpinned by the class-leading Battery and Control System that WAE has produced within a lightweight and integrated package. This core WAE technology has allowed us to exceed performance and charging targets for the battery which we look forward to seeing in future powertrains.” Dyrr Ardash, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Williams Advanced Engineering.

“We are incredibly proud to be able to share such positive outcomes from the completion of Project Triumph TE‑1, where the prototype demonstrator has exceeded many of our initial targets and expectations. Everyone on the team is thrilled with the results we have achieved with our partners, and how the outcomes of the project will feed into the electric future to come from Triumph.” Nick Bloor, CEO, Triumph Motorcycles.

ABOUT WILLIAMS ADVANCED ENGINEERING (“WAE”)

WAE is a world-leading technology and engineering services business delivering pioneering innovation to improve performance, efficiency and sustainability to a global customer base. Combining cutting-edge technological advances and the industry’s best engineers with precision and speed to market derived from the ultra-competitive environment of motorsport, WAE’s capabilities cover a wide range of disciplines.

The company provides ground-breaking innovation covering advanced battery and electrification technologies and product development; aided by advanced simulation, testing, rapid prototyping and volume manufacturing. Working in close collaboration with our customers, WAE remains committed to meeting the continued sustainability challenges of the 21st Century.

WAE can trace its foundations back to 2010 when Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited began diversifying its operations; a division which later became WAE. In December 2019, Williams Grand Prix Engineering (which is owned by private investment firm Dorilton Capital) sold a majority equity stake in WAE to EMK Capital.

WAE has grown from an embryonic business in 2010 to a company which employs approximately 400 people engaged in leading-edge and transformative technologies for a growing list of Tier 1 clients.

Following the acquisition by Fortescue Metals Group, anticipated for completion in March 2022, WAE will continue to service its existing customers and commercialise new technology opportunities, in addition to playing a key role in supporting Fortescue’s decarbonisation strategy. See more HERE.

WAE was honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation 2018.
