NIHF Museum ‘Champions of Innovation’ Exhibit Honors Sports Bra Inventors

CHAMPIONS OF INNOVATION

From world-famous photos from the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup to gyms worldwide, the sports bra has helped provide sports equity, health, and quality of life for women and girls worldwide. In recognition of this invention and the contributions of women innovators, the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF) Museum, in partnership with the global lifestyle and athletic wear brand Champion®, announces a new exhibit, “Champions of Innovation.”

This exhibit, now available for viewing in the newly reopened NIHF Museum, celebrates groundbreaking women, including NIHF Inductees Lisa LindahlHinda Miller, and Polly Smith, inventors of the Jogbra® — the world’s first sports bra.

To tell the story of the sports bra, this exhibit highlights its inventors and features artifacts that show its evolution.

Among the garments featured is a prototype replica of the original Jogbra, constructed out of two jockstraps. The original Jogbra was developed in 1977 when Lindahl wanted to create a more supportive bra for greater comfort while running. She then teamed up with Smith, who sewed the original prototype.

The sports bra was patented in 1979. Miller and Lindahl commercialized the invention as the Jogbra and co-founded their company, Jogbra Inc., which was later renamed JBI.

The Jogbra launched a multi-billion-dollar industry. Playtex Apparel bought JBI Inc. in 1990, and in 1991, Sara Lee — the owner of Champion Products Inc. — bought Playtex and formed the Champion Jogbra division.

A wall-sized timeline spanning the Champion brand’s history traces how the brand has continued to raise the bar in comfort, style, and innovation.

Another key feature of the “Champions of Innovation” exhibit is a panel honoring women in diverse fields who have persevered by meeting challenges with integrity. These icons include Wilma Rudolph, the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field at a single Olympics; Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mount Everest; and Sonia Sotomayor, the third woman and first Hispanic justice appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Additionally, the exhibit features an interactive “Create-a-Champion” experience, challenging everyone to be an innovator. Visitors are invited to swap out pieces of Champion fabric to make their own designs, pair them with several inspiring qualities, and then share their creations on social media using #createachampion.

Champion stands for inclusion in sports,” said Maria Teza, senior vice president of Champion North America. “We’re proud to partner with the National Inventors Hall of Fame to honor women in sports and from all walks of life who exemplify an entrepreneurial spirit and the heart of a champion.”

“At the National Inventors Hall of Fame, we have the privilege of honoring the lives and accomplishments of some of the world’s greatest innovators,” said NIHF CEO Michael Oister. “As we highlight women trailblazers in the ‘Champions of Innovation’ exhibit, NIHF is proud to honor these extraordinary innovators who are inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.”

The National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum is located at the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Madison Building in Alexandria, Virginia. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., admission to the museum is free and open to the public. BlueBucksClan – JUST HIT ME

On June 21, Los Angeles rap duo BlueBucksClan shares the flex-filled new single Just Hit Me. Listen via Out The Blue Records / Capitol Records is available.  Reebok has confirmed a July 29 return for its historic Answer DMX ($170, GX6330) basketball shoe, the first installment of Allen Iverson’s signature 14-sneaker “Answer” series introduced in 1997.

Today, CRSSD Festival has announced the initial artist lineup for its Fall 2022 edition taking place on September 24 and 25. Located at the scenic Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego, the two day city-center festival will showcase the best and brightest in electronic music with a focus on house, techno, and eclectic live acts.

Making its first full biannual return since 2019 and following up on its Spring 2022 edition, CRSSD’s dedicated base of attendees will again convene at Waterfront Park to experience three stages offering their own unique soundtrack. Music lovers can explore the safe haven provided by Waterfront Park’s heavenly view of downtown San Diego along the Pacific Ocean, complete with unmatched sunset views, splash-friendly fountains, and grassy lawns.

CRSSD continues to deliver on its promise of bringing forward-thinking and world-class artist lineups to the West Coast, once again welcoming all strains of global talent along with next generation risers.

The Ocean view stage will host CRSSD’s live performers with a focus on crossover dance talent. This year’s lineup is headed by electronic superduo Duck Sauce – composed of legendary DJ and producers A-Trak and Armand Van Helden,  innovative genre-crossing beatmaker and superproducer Jamie xx, heartfelt Canadian composer and recording artist Caribou, and UK singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Fred again… Billing continues with electronic R&B live duo DRAMA, German supergroup Moderat formed by members of Apparat and Modeselektor, French pop and Nu-disco band L’Impératrice, and KUU – the supergroup of Alex Metric, Riton, and Shungudzo.

All dynamics of house will be on display at The Palms, led by globally recognized Ukranian production duo ARTBAT, Australian tech house king Dom Dolla, UK mainstage originator Fatboy Slim, Area10 label boss and tastemaker DJ/producer MK, and groove-driven house artist Sonny Fodera. CRSSD’s commitment to pushing top tier techno acts this fall continues as they invite one of the genre’s most influential figures, ENTER icon and minimal techno pioneer Richie Hawtin to the City Steps. The stage’s four on the floor legacy continues with legendary Cocoon founder and special guest Sven Väth, in-demand Italian headliner Joseph Capriati, genre super-player Reinier Zonneveld, the iconic deadmau5’s Testpilot alter-ego, a live set by heavy-hitting German producer and Herzblut Recordings owner Stephan Bodzin, new wave industrial techno artist VTSS, and BBC R1’s next gen champion Jaguar.

The CRSSD experience extends beyond the stages, with fans able to enjoy craft food and cocktails from a variety of vendors, go for a dig at the CRSSD record shop in partnership with LA’s Stellar Remnant, experiment with new gear with a chance to meet the lineup’s artists at the Tech Center, or explore all Downtown San Diego has to offer before and after the show.

CRSSD will also host After Dark programming across the city in San Diego venues with more names to be announced.

CRSSD is a 21+ festival.

The heritage of the brand is presented by demonstrating the idea of building modernity from the past; a past that also feels contemporary, full of identity and uniqueness.

Understanding and reworking our roots in depth is fundamental for designing and creating an innovative vision and interpretation of the past.

Presented on the catwalk today are some garments that characterized the iconic collections from the 90s/00s.

Used in a fresh and new context the same pieces are assembled with new items to create and define a modern-day male silhouette and dialogue.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana fuse shapes & volume that characterized these archive collections with a surprising modernity featuring a patchwork concept on both denim and cotton.

Denim, trousers, jackets, crocheted knitwear, all handmade, are oversized and layered, featuring various pockets, transparencies, precious embroideries applied on shirts, T-shirts and jackets.

Fabrics such as cotton and drill co-exist with classic lace and brocade, and modern fabrics treated with innovative processes create vintage and tactile 3-D effects.

The combination of colors recall Sicilian terrain such as the cream of Ortigia, sands of Mondello, Kalsa brown and amber, black lava, white carredo, and grey basaltina.

Cookie Pop Candy Pop

The Summer Fancy Foods extravaganza drew in a surplus of foodies this summer at the Javits Center in New York City. Everyone’s favorite food-connoisseur, the one and only Foodgod, made appearances at the Cookie Pop and Candy Pop booth where he indulged in an array of irresistible delicacies.

Foodgod gained his notoriety while being featured as a regular on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. He continued to grow his online presence as an esteemed food lover as time went on, making him now one of the most renowned foodies internationally in the world. His passion for food even led him to change his legal name to Foodgod. 

SNAX-Sational Brands generated three days full of sweet treats at the Sweets and Snacks Expo from June 12-14. Making a special appearance on June 13, fans were able to meet Foodgod himself while indulging in the delicious treats showcased at the Cookie Pop and Candy Pop booth. 

Commemorating the all-new launch of the Nutter Butter flavor, attendees were treated with the exclusive new taste and comforted with Foodgod’s very own favorite flavor, Sour Patch Kids.

“I have eaten at least 17 bags of Candy Pop Sour Patch Kids popcorn this year. When the first case arrived at my house, I went through them so quickly. It tastes like a delicious sweet and savory party in your mouth. It is beyond,” said Foodgod regarding the flavor. 

With such a wide variety of flavors, fans were more than taken care of at the booth. From the new Cookie Pop Popcorn Nutter Butter® made with real Nutter Butter® cookie pieces, to the Cookie Pop Popcorn OREO® made with real OREO® cookie pieces, or the Cookie Pop CHIPS AHOY® made with real CHIPS AHOY!® cookie pieces, it’s safe to say attendees were in for a sweet treat!

As one of Foodgod’s favorites, the Candy Pop Popcorn SOUR PATCH KIDS® made with SOUR PATCH KIDS® Bitz has stormed the nation, becoming an easy fan-favorite. Other Candy Pop assortments included Candy Pop Popcorn SNICKERS® made with SNICKERS® Pieces, Candy Pop Popcorn M&M’s® Minis made with M&M’s® Minis candy and Candy Pop Popcorn BUTTERFINGER® made with real BUTTERFINGER® candy.
