Cafuné signs to Elektra Records and launches Tek It via 360 MAGAZINE

Cafuné – Tek It

Cafuné – the NYC-based duo of singer/songwriter Sedona Schat and writer/producer Noah Yoo – have announced their signing to Elektra Records and shared an official music video for their breakout hit “Tek It.” Produced by Natia Sopromadze and directed by Frederick Venet of Crux Animation Studio, the anime music video for “Tek It” is streaming now on the band’s YouTube Channel.

Having amassed 45 million global streams to date, “Tek It” is featured on Cafuné’s debut album Running, which was released last July via their own Aurelians Club label. “Tek It” currently sits in the Top 5 on Billboard’s “Bubbling Under Hot 100” chart, and recently debuted on the UK’s “Official Singles Chart Top 100.” Furthermore, “Tek It” continues to grow at both Alternative and AAA radio formats, entering the Top 10 this week on Billboard’s “Hot Rock & Alternative Songs” chart while also debuting on Mediabase’s “Alternative Chart” this week at #38.

In other recent news, Cafuné have been announced as direct support to CHVRCHES on their upcoming North American headline tour. The coast-to-coast run is set to kick off on July 26th at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans, LA and extend into the fall, concluding with a performance on October 3rd at the Knitting Factory in Boise, ID. For tickets and more information on Cafuné’s upcoming tour dates, visit www.wearecafune.xyz.

Sedona Schat and Noah Yoo have been recording alternative pop songs together as Cafuné since their days as NYU students in the mid-2010s.  Self-produced and almost entirely recorded by the duo at their homes, mostly during the pandemic, their debut album Running is a record born in isolation. It peers out at a world that feels like it’s on the precipice of disaster, considering what it means to get older, to carve out a future for yourself. It’s a labor of the duo’s friendship, of doing the work and trying to figure out what the way forward is, even when it seems like there’s no end in sight. It’s a record of growing old and growing up, of making something you can move to—whether you’re alone in a room, in a sweaty club with all of your friends, or driving away to someplace better.

Hydrofoil article by Chalmers University of Technology via 360 MAGAZINE

Ships Fly Over Surface

Soon, electric passenger ferries skimming above the surface across the seas may become a reality. At Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, a research team has created a unique method for further developing hydrofoils that can significantly increase the range of electric vessels and reduce the fuel consumption of fossil-powered ships by 80 per cent.

While the electrification of cars is well advanced, the world’s passenger ferries are still powered almost exclusively by fossil fuels. The limiting factor is battery capacity, which is not enough to power ships and ferries across longer distances. But now researchers at Chalmers and the marine research facility SSPA have succeeded in developing a method that can make the shipping industry significantly greener in the future. The focus is on hydrofoils that, like wings, lift the boat’s hull above the surface of the water and allow the boat to travel with considerably less water resistance. A technology that in recent years has revolutionised sailing, by which hydrofoils make elite sailors’ boats fly over the surface of the water at a very high speed.
The researchers at Chalmers and SSPA now want to enable the sailboats’ hydrofoil principle to be used on larger passenger ferries as well, resulting in major benefits for the climate.

“The electrification of ferries cannot be done without drastically reducing their water resistance. This method will allow the development of new foil designs that can reduce resistance by up to 80 per cent, which in turn would significantly increase the range of a battery powered ship. In this way, we could also use electric ferries on longer distances in the future,” says research leader Arash Eslamdoost, Associate Professor in Applied Hydrodynamics at Chalmers and author of the study Fluid-Structure Interaction of a Foiling Craft published in the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering.

Even for ships that today run on fossil fuels the climate benefit could be  significant, as similar hydrofoil technology could reduce fuel consumption by no less than 80 per cent.

Unique measurement method arouses broad interest
At the centre of the research project is a unique measurement technique that the researchers have put together in order to understand in detail how hydrofoils behave in the water when, for example, the load or speed increases or the positioning of the hydrofoil changes. Using the data collected from the experiments, the team has developed and validated a method to simulate and predict with great precision how the hydrofoil would behave under a variety of conditions. The method is unique of its kind and can now be used to develop the design of hydrofoils for electric powered hydrofoil ferries.

The study was conducted in collaboration with the research facility SSPA – one of only a few of its kind in the world – where Laura Marimon Giovannetti works as a researcher and project manager. She is the lead author of the study and has herself competed at the elite level for both the British and Italian national sailing teams. Today she is a research and development adviser to Sweden’s Olympic committee and the Swedish national team with her sights set on helping the team win more medals at the Olympics in 2024. Marimon Giovannetti sees many possibilities for the unique measurement method developed by the team:

“At the Americas Cup in San Francisco Bay in 2013, it was the first time we saw a 72-foot sailing boat learning how to “fly” using hydrofoils during the competition. And since then, we’ve seen a huge increase in sailing boats with hydrofoils. With this new method and knowledge we are able to bring together a range of different branches of engineering – naval architecture, advanced materials and aeronautics as well as renewable energy.”

Paving the way for hydrofoils on electric ferries
Hydrofoil technology is not in itself a novelty, but was developed as early as the 60s and 70s. Back then the focus was on getting boats to travel at as fast as possible and the hydrofoils were made of steel, a heavy material with higher maintenance costs. Today’s modern hydrofoils are made of carbon fibre, a much lighter and stiffer material that can maintain its rigidity even under high loads – and can be tailored to the expected loads. Part of the research project was therefore to fully understand how a carbon fibre structure behaves underwater during different operational conditions. The research team’s method developed in association with modern technology is now paving the way for the use of carbon fibre hydrofoils on larger passenger ships that can travel in a safe, controlled and climate-friendly way even at low speeds.

“You want the foil to be as efficient as possible, which means carrying as much weight as possible at as low a speed as possible with the least resistance. Our next goal is to use this method when designing more efficient hydrofoils for ferries in the future,” says Eslamdoost.

Vacation and travel article via 360 Magazine

Seven Amazing Activities to do During Your Vacation

There are many reasons why we travel. To escape the daily grind, to see the world, and learn about different cultures and traditions. But one of the main reasons we travel is to have fun!

A vacation gives you a chance to relax and rejuvenate yourself. However, it can be easy to get stuck in a rut while on holiday. Whether traveling with family or friends, making your trip fun and memorable is important.

If you’re looking for some excitement during your next vacation, here are some great ideas:

Go Hiking

Hiking is great exercise, and it’s also a fun way to see new places. If you have time during your trip, consider hiking through the woods or along a mountain trail. It is also a great way to take in nature, which is one of the best ways to relax after a stressful day.

Many hiking trails worldwide offer beautiful views of mountains, lakes, and other natural wonders! Some hiking trails even lead up mountains to get closer views of glaciers or waterfalls.

Go Sightseeing

Visiting historic sites, museums and galleries are all fun ways to spend your time while traveling. Learning about other cultures is also a great way to get inspired and even pick up a few new ideas for your travels!

Play Games

Board games are a great way to get people together. You can play Scrabble, Monopoly, Life, or any other game in your collection. Even without a large group of friends and family, you can play on a computer or with a friend over the internet.

If you want to fancy more of a thrill, try out some online casino games! There are plenty of them, and you can play with only an internet connection. Popular types include slots, live dealers, table games, and video poker.

The good thing about these games is that you can access them depending on your location. If you are in Canada, try searching for the best online casinos in Canada. The platform guides you to the top online casinos, where there are reviews of all the top operators. In addition, when you are ready to play you can claim a generous welcome bonus.

Take Pictures

The best way to remember your trip is by taking pictures. If you have a smartphone, take advantage of the camera and take some photos. You should also take notes about the places you visit and things you do during your vacation to remember them better.

Do Some Shopping

Shopping is one of the most popular activities for tourists. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs or gifts for friends and family back home, shopping is a great way to kill time on your vacation.

Have a Picnic

Picnics are one of the most fun and relaxing ways to enjoy yourself during your next vacation! They are perfect for families who want to relax and for friends and couples who want to get away from it all. You don’t even need special equipment or supplies – just pack some sandwiches and drinks and head out into nature!

Go on a Road Trip

Road trips are an excellent way to explore new places and experience them differently than if you were flying. Plus, they’re fun! Most people enjoy driving long distances because it gives them time alone with their thoughts and something interesting to look at.

You can also make a road trip with friends and family, especially when trying out a recently bought car. If you or your friend buys a new Porsche car, the first thing that comes to your mind is probably, why not go for a Porsche road trip! That way, you get to test your new car in an exciting way.

Enjoy Your Vacation!

Relaxation and enjoyment are the hallmarks of a vacation. You also want to make the most of your trip by exploring new places, trying new things, and learning about local culture. If you’re planning a vacation, choose activities that will help you relax, have fun, and learn about the place you’re visiting.

If you go on a vacation and never do anything but sit on the beach, you will have difficulty remembering anything about it. So next time, do things that are memorable.

NADER MUSEUM – FERNANDO BOTERO

The Nader Museum located in the Wynwood Arts District, Miami, proudly announces that ‘Botero Immersed’ in honor of Fernando Botero, will be extended through June 30, 2022. The exciting exhibit is a visual and engaging passage into the work of Botero with music composed by twenty-two times Grammy winner world producer Emilio Estefan. We’re inviting top media and influencers to visit this wonderful initiative from Monday to Saturday between 10:30AM and 5:00PM. Please let us know your availability so we can coordinate coverage.

Gary Nader, curator, and director of the museum, defines the exhibit as “a remarkable cultural event and multimedia experience, and features Botero’s iconic body of work from the 1960s to the present day through 360-degree interactive digital projections, lights, music and sounds.”

Guests will witness a selection of significant pieces representing his works over the last six decades, such as the circus personages, life in Latin America and its people, bullfighting, and adaptations of the work of art history masters. Botero’s narratives go beyond the represented object; a single image is full of connotations, and it may take spectators to a vast and unique universe of experiences. Botero’s “baroque” exaggeration of the portrayed objects reminds you that his signature style stands as an array of influences, from Renaissance masters to the 20th-century expressionist movements.

Fernando Botero was born in Medellin, Colombia (1932). In 1950, he graduated from Medellin University. He went on to study in Spain and Italy before eventually moving to New York in 1960, where he won the Guggenheim National Prize for Colombia. Over the next few years, Botero began to develop his trademark style. The small-town life he experienced as a child and the Colombian people of his youth would become his most rich source of inspiration. In 1973, Botero moved to Paris and began making sculptures. Botero has achieved international recognition for his painting, drawings, sculptures, and exhibitions around the world. His art is collected by many major international museums, corporations, and private collectors around the world.

Botero, with his immense sculptures, manipulates forms, proportions, volumes, and sizes to create smooth, round, and plump humans and animals that transform their surroundings and generate an immediate response from the viewer. He once said of his sculptures, “I never give particular traits to my figures. I don’t want them to have personality, but rather represent a type that I create. My sculptures do not carry any messages, social or otherwise. What matters for me is the form, the voluptuous surfaces, which emphasize the sensuality of my work. I like the enormous size; it is the fulfillment of my longing for voluptuous round forms.”

The Nader Museum, with over 1200 works of art from over 150+ important modern and contemporary masters, is compromised to elevate the importance of our culture by promoting excellence, a work performed by his founder Gary Nader for over 40 years.

Botero Immersed is also intended to promote the Nader Museum, a not-for-profit organization with 501(c)3 tax status. The museum is dedicated to showcasing a myriad of acclaimed art that fosters knowledge through a continuous process of appreciation and reinterpretation of modern and contemporary art from Latin American and its diaspora. Through a permanent collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, installations, and other media, the museum’s audience can experience and appreciate one of the world’s most significant regions of today’s contemporary art scene.

Mireya Ramos – Debut Album

Latin GRAMMY Award-winning Latinx vocalist Mireya Ramos releases her debut solo album, Mireya, on ONErpm with a star-studding affair featuring some of the biggest names in Latin music today, May 31, 2022. Mireya spotlights the acclaimed singer and founder of all-female mariachi band Flor de Toloache alongside special guests Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas), Mike Garson (Davis Bowie), Camilo Lara (Mexican Institute of Sound), Gaby Moreno, Jorge Glem, Claudia Brant, Haydée Milanés, Leo Genovese, Velcro, and Roman Rojas. An autobiographical depiction of a day in the life of Ramos, Mireya unveils stories of Afro-Latino pride, police brutality, Black Lives Matter, unbridled love, break-ups, and self-love.

Mireya dives into the story of a brown girl from Puerto Rico born to a Dominican mom and Mexican mariachi dad; of her nights dancing to New York City hip-hop and at Giant Step events; of jamming on her violin with DJs and bands from all over the world while hustling in Queens and Brooklyn performing mariachi music to make rent. It’s a reflection of her musical globe-trotting adventures from India and New Zealand (with her partner Andy Averbuch) to life-changing mariachi performances at The White House, the Latin GRAMMYs (live set celebrating Ruben Blades, “Person of the Year 2021”), and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.

Mireya represents my path and growth and the experiences that inspired that progress,” says Mireya Ramos. “It’s taken 10 years to bring this album out the way I’ve intended to. The process all started with laying down tracks in 2012 with producer Sinhue Padilha, who now tours with Lila Downs. It’s taken on a whole new life since then with so many of my favorite musicians playing on the recording. Mireya is a carefully crafted, honest portrayal from my soul to the ears and minds of those keen to know what makes me who I am.

Ramos sings down the cultural barriers between modern Anglo and Latin music on Mireya, blending genres with textures of Mexican classics while revealing the emotional heritage of America’s future. Mireya opens with Nunca te voy a Olvidar with Flor de Toloache, Jorge Glem and Roman Rojas. On the track, Ramos never forgets where she came from and shares the riches of Latin culture with the world.

La Llama highlights her collaboration with Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas; Ramos also appears on Quesada’s new album, Boleros Psicodélicos (ATO Records; June 3, 2022), on the track Tus Tormentas. A catchy hip-hop beat, thick low-end bass guitar, and Ramos’ violin set the perfect vibe for the duo’s vocals to glide above. With lyrics by Ramos’ brother Velcro, La Llama features her rapping debut. Inspired by Stevie Wonder’s Master Blaster, Canto takes listeners on a dub-adventure with chill island reggae putting smiles on listeners’ faces. Produced by Andy Averbuch, Canto includes a crew of Kiwi musicians from Ramos and Averbuch’s year-long stay in Aotearoa, New Zealand during the pandemic.

Lady Grinning Soul by David Bowie gets a Latinx make-over featuring pianist Mike Garson (who plays on the original track on the Bowie album, Aladdin Sane) with Ramos singing in Spanish and English with vocalist Gaby Moreno. The stripped-down version follows Ramos’ full-band single of the track produced by Camilo Lara (Mexican Institute of Sound). The remixed version on Mireya takes the vocals, piano, and strings centerstage.

Angelitos Negros, also featuring Camilo Lara, has been with Ramos her entire life with her mother singing it since she was a young child. Angelitos Negros speaks to the importance of the representation of black and brown communities, and the lack thereof. In the case of the storyline of Angelitos Negros, the whitewashing of BIPOC communities in historical paintings. Ramos took to the streets to perform Angelitos Negros at Black Lives Matter protests across the globe. Composed by her cousin Sonia Montez, Climbing Fences was inspired by the Michael Brown police shooting case in Ferguson, MS and represents all police brutality cases in black and brown communities.

Mireya rounds out with songs of love and loss. Mi Mayor Fortuna is a power-ballad writing collaboration between Ramos and two-time GRAMMY Award-winner Claudia Brant. Ramos channels the great Latin pop singers Laura Pausini and Cristian Castro with her soaring vocals on this heart-wrenching rancheras. Produced by Sonia Montez, La Golondrina is a beautiful Mexican classic traditionally performed at funerals and tributes her grandmother, Manisa. Ever since Ramos heard Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek, she’s envisioned recording herself doing a version of La Golondrina with the vocoder effect. The melody itself is sweet, yet melancholic. The rancheras Canción Mixteca features singer Haydee Milanés and Gaby Moreno, who contributes deft electric guitar work underneath the emotive vocal harmonies.

Quédate Aquí is equally fit for driving with the windows down and the volume up or on a sweaty dance floor. A cover of New Zealand’s stadium-packing pop behemoth Six60, Quédate Aquí is the Latinx summer jam of 2022. Para Mí carries an electro-synth soundscape with tasty drums by Stevie Wonder’s touring percussionist, Euro Zambrano. Ramos sings of a difficult ending to a romantic relationship, where her former lover keeps appearing in her dreams while she wishes he was only a faint memory.

Beauty Free is a self-assurance hymn, a mantra. Ramos composed the piece when she was not feeling herself, but knew she could rely on the healing powers of music. She wrote Beauty Free to remind herself that she is strong, beautiful, and always her own favorite girl.

“…her tender new single ‘Mi Mayor Fortuna’ further cements her as a powerhouse of a vocalist…

the romance she oozes is so beautiful it’s contagious.” –Remezcla

NEW OBESITY STUDY

From the creators of these global stories, The Breast Forces Study, The Backpack Study and Text Neck Study.

A New Study publishing in Surgical Technology International correlates belly fat per waist circumference and defines spine forces, by the pound.

In the America, more than two-thirds of adults (220 million-plus) are overweight or obese, and childhood obesity affects 13.7 million children. As of 2016, 1.9 billion adults were overweight or obese globally. People now know that obesity is bad for their health.

Obesity, or the fat content of the belly, is associated with inflammation, diabetes, hypertension, heart conditions, metabolic syndrome, and back pain. Adipose tissue is linked to an increased risk of and aggressiveness of cancer.

Our study sought to assess the forces that belly fat exerts on the spine with an increase in waist circumference. Using data from the Dallas Heart Study, Grundy et al. calculated belly fat mass according to waist circumference by ethnicity and sex. Using a finite element analysis, our study specifically placed the abdominal fat masses into position in the abdomen. Then, we calculated the levered forces seen by the spine.

For women, the magnitude of forces generated by abdominal fat to the lumbar spine ranged between 5 to 170 pounds of force in our measurements. By the standard set by the American Heart Association, abdominal obesity in women starts at a thirty-five-inch waist circumference.

For men, the magnitude of forces generated by abdominal fat to the lumbar spine ranged between 3 to 120 pounds of force in our measurements. According to the American Heart Association, abdominal obesity in men begins at a waist circumference of forty inches.

You have to imagine what it feels like to lift this much weight to put these numbers in perspective. The magnitude of these forces is significant. If you are a man with a thirty-eight-inch waist, the excess fat in your abdominal area is equivalent to having nearly thirty pounds of pressure on your spine. For women, a thirty-six-inch waist is close to having forty-eight pounds of pressure on her spine. Imagine walking around all day carrying dumbbells that weighed nearly fifty pounds. That would be equivalent to carrying a large bag of dry dog food, six gallons of water, two cinder blocks, or, as the chart shows, a twin mattress. Not only would it be exhausting but carrying those weights would also cause significant wear and tear on your back.

Your spine is designed to carry your body’s weight. When you are overweight, your spine must assimilate the burden, which may lead to damage. The lower back is most vulnerable to the effects of obesity. In addition, abdominal fat interferes with good posture. Excess weight around the middle can alter the natural curve of the spine. The weight presses on the shock-absorbing discs between vertebrae, which can cause them to become dehydrated, herniated or pinched, or create pressure on nerves that travel through the central canal. In addition, carrying extra weight can strain the muscles and ligaments that support you’re back, and you know what that means, pain.

A literature review shows that fat cells comport an essential variety of metabolic influences. Our waist circumference is related to our metabolic health risks. Abdominal fat is a critical player in health problems. The fat around the abdominal organs, called visceral fat, is more disease-causing than the fat under the skin, called subcutaneous fat, that a person can pinch by hand. This visceral fat is linked to metabolic disturbances, increased cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. The visceral fat leads to an apple-shaped abdomen, while the subcutaneous fat leads to a pear-shaped body.

Fat itself is considered an endocrine organ that is biologically active. Abdominal fat cells disrupt the balance of the body’s normal hormones. Fat cells play a role in inflammation, secrete tumor necrosis factors and interleukin-6, increasing heart disease risk. Furthermore, fat cells blunt the body’s sensitivity to insulin and propagate high blood pressure. Data suggests that adipose tissue has been linked to increased risk and aggressiveness of carcinoma.

Regular physical exercise can help one to lose belly fat. A moderate-intensity physical activity for 30 minutes per day shifts body weight and diminishes belly fat. Proper nutrition and food choices also help.

This paper helps people plan the stress forces seen by the spine as related to the abdominal size. Obesity is then a better-defined factor in the calculus of back pain. The link to abdominal circumference is predictable and relatable to the general public.

H.K. Keller Auctions Announce Your Chance to Bid on Rare Autograph Collection

With nearly 60 years’ experience and now with their third generation of auctioneers, H.K. Keller have helped hundreds of sellers and thousands of buyers find and bid on their perfect item.

After uncovering Theodore Stillwell’s vintage and unique Rare Autograph Collection, H.K. Keller are now excited to offer this one-of-a-kind sale to the public.

Elderly Sister’s Discovery Uncovers a World of Autograph Treasures

When it was finally time to move out of their life-long family home and into a retirement facility, sisters Gloria and Nancy Stillwell of Ephrata, PA knew they couldn’t take it all with them. With the assistance of a local real estate agent, they contacted an auctioneer to help them with the transition.

While there were some things in the home with little value, a trunk in the attic caught the auctioneer’s eye. The ladies were aware of their father’s hobby, but they weren’t sure people would actually want the autographs that he had collected.

Inside the trunk were hundreds and hundreds of autographs from the 1940s and 1950’s. These autographs included famous athletes, military heroes, cultural icons, celebrities, heads of state, and world leaders.

World-Wide Life

Mr. Theodore Stillwell was born in 1907 and lived his whole life in the Ephrata, PA area. He was a career US postal worker. Although he never travelled, he enjoyed living a “world-wide” life vicariously through writing hundreds of letters throughout the 1940s. His letters afforded him the opportunity to collect an array of autographs, photos, flags, military patches, and correspondence.

Highlights include Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, who became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball. This 1947 letter personalized to Stillwell refers to Robinson being too new to the Brooklyn Dodgers team to request a baseball. There is also a Honus Wagner signed photo and a Mrs. Eleanor Gehrig (Lou Gehrig) letter. This is an autographed football from Amos Alonzo Stagg, an American athlete who played for Yale in 1885-1889, Springfield YMCA and college coach. There are signed items from American manufacturer, Aviator, and movie producer, Howard Hughes, and from Gen. George S. Patton, plus even more.

One of Stillwell’s letters to Patton dated March 20, 1943, is in the Library of Congress and is noted in the dissertation “In need of a hero? The Creation and Use of the Legend of General George S. Patton, Jr” by Nathan C. Jones, curator, historian, author, and museologist at The General George Patton Museum.

One-Of-A-Kind Opportunity

This impressive collection was discovered in December of 2021 in a trunk in the attic of the family home. This collection was reviewed by JSA, James Spence Authentication. Notable autographs received a Letter of Authenticity (LOA) or a Basic Certificate (COA).

This exciting auction is an opportunity for the public to secure many unique and one-of-a-kind autographs.

“We are honored to have discovered this treasure chest,” said Tim Keller, lead auctioneer, “Not only for the sisters, but also for the fact that these autographs, letters, and flags will be treasured by others for years to come. We are happy to bring this collection out of a foot locker to be enjoyed by the world.”

While online bidding is open now, a live auctioneer will be selling the items on Tuesday, June 7th, 2022 at 11:00am Eastern Time through an internet-only simulcast auction.
