Pirelli Electric Vehicle Tire

Pirelli announced the introduction in North America of its first replacement tire developed specifically for electric vehicles: the P Zero All Season Plus with Elect marking.

The Elect marking offers a number of advantages. First and foremost is low rolling resistance, designed to increase the driving range while reducing consumption. Compared to a non-elect P Zero All Season Plus product, the new Pirelli tire has shown a reduction of 15% of rolling resistance, which translates to a direct improvement in the battery life of the vehicle.

Another key advantage of the Elect marking is noise reduction, for ultimate comfort and to emphasize the quiet inside the cabin. In electric cars, the engine is no longer the primary source of noise, so reducing sound frequencies produced by the tires is key to increasing driving comfort.

Finally, there’s an immediate grip designed to bite into the asphalt instantly, putting the power down for a quick getaway. Another feature worth mentioning: a special structure designed to support the weight of a battery-powered vehicle.

The new P Zero All Season Plus also features the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS): a technology designed to reduce interior vehicle noise thanks to a sound-absorbing material applied to the inside circumferential wall of the tire that offers significantly improved driving comfort, a feature much appreciated by those who own electric cars. Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) equipped P Zero All Season Plus Elect has shown a 5% decrease in cabin noise versus the leading original equipment competitor.

With the introduction of this new product, Pirelli confirms once again to be at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution, after having been the first tire manufacturer to homologate a dedicated technology for electric vehicles and having the highest number of homologations of tires for EVs.

“Developing a tire specifically for electric vehicles requires a number of considerations you do not encounter when working with internal combustion engines,” said Ian Coke, Chief Technical Officer at Pirelli North America. “Electric vehicles are heavier, have more powerful and faster acceleration off the line and require lower rolling resistance.”

Tires play a crucial role in EV performance as they are a key safety, performance, and range optimizer. The new P Zero All Season Plus Elect offers a number of advantages for electric vehicles, thanks to the use of innovative compounds, profiles and structures.

Thanks to a new compound formulation that increases the abrasion resistance of the tire to compensate the high torque and the overall vehicle weight, the new P Zero All Season Plus Elect is built to offer long-lasting performance in every condition. The new Pirelli tire offers improved traction in line with the intense demands from the high torque produced by an EV. As electric motors deliver the maximum torque available immediately when accelerating, they need tires that can bite into the asphalt instantly. The adoption of functionalized polymers in the compound brought an improvement in wet grip and handling.

The new P Zero All Season Plus Elect will fit some of the most popular EV high-performance models and will be available from 18 to 20 inches. In addition to the clear EV vehicle benefits, the new P Zero All Season Plus Elect comes with a 50,000-mile limited treadwear warranty.

Deante’ Hitchcock – Alone

Grammy-nominated Atlanta rapper Deante’ Hitchcock released “Alone,” his new single out now via ByStorm Entertainment/RCA Records. The slow cut, driven by the sensuous strum of guitar strings, finds Deante’ weighing the risks of letting his guard down for a potential love interest or whether they are both better off alone.

“We’re so busy trying to be understood we forget how to be understanding,” said Deante’. “Everybody’s trying to figure this thing out, but it’s so hard, man. On one end, it’s like I’m better off alone, so I don’t have to deal with anyone else’s shit, but it’s also like damn, I’m better off alone to not have to deal with my shit either. But I’m trying, ya know.”

The latest in a run of relationship-driven releases set to come from Deante’ this year, “Alone” follows his Valentine’s Day-themed EP Everyday The 14th in February, which received critical acclaim. Featured by XXL, Hypebeast, HipHopDX, Okayplayer, and more as one of the ‘Best New Releases of the Week,’ Lyrical Lemonade praised the project, noting that it “further solidifies Deante’ Hitchcock’s immense skill and versatility as an artist,” while The Source called the EP a “tight, solid listen for returning fans and newcomers alike.”

Last week, Deante’ also announced the launch of The Mother God Project in partnership with local Atlanta nonprofit Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs Inc. (ACE) Women’s Business Center. Powered by Deante’, The Mother God Project will provide assistance to 100 women within the community in order to successfully launch their own businesses. The selected participants will each have the opportunity to obtain their own LLCs within Atlanta, in addition to receiving one-on-one coaching and training.

About Deante’ Hitchcock

Introspective. Talented. Lyricist. These are just a few words to describe Grammy-nominated Atlanta artist Deante’ Hitchcock. After dropping out of Georgia Southern University, Deante’ decided that rap was his only option and began working harder than ever by releasing mixtapes and videos that created an undeniable buzz. His witty, charismatic social media freestyle videos generated attention, leading him to open for acts such as Lil Uzi Vert and Yo Gotti, and eventually led to a recording deal with Mark Pitts’ ByStorm Entertainment.

With several impressive EPs under his lyrical belt (Good, So Much for Good Luck, Just A Sample, Just A Sample 2), in 2019, Deante’ secured a highly coveted spot on the Grammy-nominated J. Cole and Dreamville compilation album, Revenge Of The Dreamers III, which is currently RIAA-certified Platinum. He released his debut album BETTER on ByStorm Entertainment/RCA Records in 2020, featuring the single “How TF” feat. 6LACK and collaborations with JID, Young Nudy, Miguel, and St. Beauty. Following suit with the deluxe version of BETTER later that year, which featured appearances from Guapdad 4000, Kenny Mason, Ro James, and more, the project solidified Deante’ as a must-watch artist within the next wave of Southern rap, garnering critical acclaim and ‘Best of 2020’ placements across Complex, NPR, XXL, and UPROXX.

New Cravity Album

K-Pop group CRAVITY are ready to take their next leap forward with the release of CRAVITY 1ST ALBUM PART 2 [LIBERTY : IN OUR COSMOS]. Referred to as “ones to watch” by Forbes, the members of CRAVITY are ready to reach new heights with this album by exploring various musical genres from one track to the next. Previously taking on a more powerful image with past releases, [LIBERTY : IN OUR COSMOS] is showcasing a more youthful side to the group. Their defiant new image, illustrated in their music video and album, implies that the boys have finally become free after overcoming their inner worries and struggles. The title of this album also suggests that the members of  CRAVITY have become one, and have found hope through finding stars in the cosmos, a place where they feel the happiest and most liberated. Overall, it’s a story that is completed by forming solidarity with the fans whom they were destined to meet.

Lead track “Adrenaline” blends four genres of funk, future house, trap, and moombahton; creating a fresh sound from the nine members, longing for freedom. This track compares one’s hopeful existence, the central theme of this album, to “adrenaline,” and tells a story of “being addicted to you.” Set in a school, the music video portrays the free spirit of the members who have found hope in despair. This is showcased through a festival scene, where the boys can finally be free from the oppression of school and their uniforms. A blast of excitement, disordered dreams, and reality that the boys face during their growth are weaved together as a unique visual under the keyword: “adrenaline.”

Consisting of 8 tracks; rappers of the group, Serim and Allen, contributed to writing for “Adrenaline,” “POW!” and “Outro : In Our Cosmos.” Used as a metaphor, “Chandelier” is meant to portray the message that a bright future lies ahead of the members. The lyrics for “FLIP THE  FRAME” convey the message of the members’ wish to explore the new world by breaking the rules and flipping the frame. “Late Night” tells the story of spending valuable time with friends who cheer and support each other. While “Maybe Baby” emotes nerves and uncertainty one may feel during the early stages of love.

CRAVITY’s debut album, released in April 2020, SEASON1. [HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE] caused a wave of intrigue and excitement here in the states, with mentions in PAPER Magazine, Access, iHeart, J-14, MTV News, Earmilk, Teen Vogue, and Rolling Stone. The latter of which referred to their title track as “An anthemic track from the K-pop rookies that combines 808-style riffs with the melodic sensibilities of early-2000s boybands (extended dance break included).”

“Though the group is still up-and-coming and developing their sound, they have begun to refine their artistry and make their mark on the industry. Their work on ‘Gas Pedal’ proves just that, and more,” MTV said.

About Cravity

Since their debut on April 14th 2020, CRAVITY have marked their relentless movement, sweeping rookie of the year awards at various music awards ceremonies in Korea. Even with only two albums under their belt at the time, their achievements were more than enough to show their presence in the K-Pop scene. CRAVITY received the name “super rookie,” due to the success of their debut album, which hit No. 1 on U.S. iTunes Top K-Pop Albums chart. Additionally, the group made a splash on social media shortly after their first album, debuting at No. 12 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart; making them the fifth-fastest South Korean group to enter Social 50.The inspiration behind the name, CRAVITY, came to fruition through a combination of “creativity” and “gravity.” The band consists of nine members,: Serim, Allen, Jungmo, Woobin, Wonjin, Minhee, Hyeongjun, Taeyoung, and Seongmin.

LEADERS APPLAUD JUDGE KETANJI BROWN JACKSON

PROMINENT NATIONAL BLACK WOMEN LEADERS APPLAUD JUDGE KETANJI BROWN JACKSON ON HER HISTORIC U.S. SENATE CONFIRMATION HEARING FOR SUPREME COURT

The Black Women’s Leadership Collective, a coalition of 11 national Black women’s organizations networks and leaders, applauds Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for her historic appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week. Judge Jackson demonstrated why she belongs on the United States Supreme Court, despite false, unwarranted and vitriolic Republican attacks on both her character and her nearly decade-long tenure as a federal judge.

The Black Women’s Leadership Collective — an organizing hub of national leaders who represent millions of advocates and supporters — is urging the Judiciary Committee to advance Judge Jackson’s nomination to the full Senate for confirmation as the first Black woman to serve on our nation’s highest court.

Judge Jackson’s appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee deepened the pride and joy Black women across America have felt since she was nominated by President Biden.  She did us and our ancestors proud. Day after day, hour after hour, Judge Jackson’s character, integrity, deep knowledge, and respect for the Constitution were eminently clear. She cut through the noise and partisan rancor to discuss her record with such grace, transparency, and thoughtfulness that it’s no surprise the Senate previously confirmed her for three positions, including two judgeships, with bipartisan support.

Judge Jackson faced distortions of her record, attacks, hostility, and downright rudeness from Senate Republicans, who should be ashamed of their actions during these proceedings. The interruptions, barely coded dog whistles and disrespect mirrored the lived experience of Black women in America and serve as a reminder why representation matters and why Judge Jackson’s historic nomination is an inspiration.  As our children watched these hearings, they saw yet another moment in Judge Jackson’s inspirational life as she faced baseless attacks with grace, strength, and incredible poise.

Grounded in core values of faith, family, and service, it’s also no surprise that Judge Jackson the has earned a wide range of endorsements, including the Fraternal Order of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, former attorneys general, lawyers and retired federal judges of both parties. These endorsements prove beyond doubt that Judge Jackson is a strong supporter of law enforcement and works to protect the public from criminals.

We urge the Senate Judiciary Committee and the full Senate to vote swiftly — and overwhelmingly — approve Judge Jackson for the Supreme Court.

About The Black Women’s Leadership Collective

The Black Women’s Leadership Collective is a leadership and organizing hub for Black women’s organizations, advocates, and supporters, utilizing the power of our collective efforts to support the nomination of the first Black woman to the Supreme Court. We are a collective of intergenerational, intersectional Black women leaders throughout the nation. Within our collective are organizational leaders, business leaders, political strategists, student leaders, faith leaders, tech leaders, labor leaders, pioneers in sports, music and entertainment, movement leaders and more.

Carson Boys & Girls Club Basketball Court

On Tuesday, March 22, Reebok, in collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and non-profit Project Backboard, unveiled a revamped basketball court for the members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson, California. The repaired playing surface and a custom butterfly mural share Reebok’s “Life is Not a Spectator Sport” message and the mission of its youth physical activity program, BOKS, encouraging kids to get active and to connect with life and one another. Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson, California, located 20 miles south of Los Angeles, serves 5,400 youth in Carson, Gardena, and South Los Angeles.

Last month, Reebok launched “Life is Not a Spectator Sport,” a bold new global brand campaign designed to inspire people to pursue their passions, celebrate their individuality and become active participants in the world around them.

“‘Life is Not a Spectator Sport’ is an especially important message for kids,” said Caroline Machen, Vice President, Global Brand Marketing at Reebok Design Group. “Enhancing the game of basketball has always been a part of Reebok’s DNA and we’re excited to bring this message to their home court in a way that makes sense for them. Even if it’s one Club or community at a time, if we continue to do the work, we can help build a more connected, active, and creative generation.”

Realizing the varying needs of families within the community, Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson help ignite the unlimited potential of kids and teens by creating safe, inclusive, and engaging environments.

“The ongoing pandemic has sidelined our kids for far too long,” commented Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson CEO Kim Richards. “I can’t think of a better way to get kids back in the game than having our clubhouse basketball court transformed thanks to the generosity of Reebok and Project Backboard. These renovations are a slam dunk toward our vision to provide equitable access to sports and fitness for kids in our under-resourced community.”

Executed by Project Backboard, whose mission is to renovate courts to help strengthen communities and encourage multi-generational play, the months-long revamp entailed sourcing brand new portable basketball hoops, repairing surface cracks and bumps, applying new layers of sealant for durability, and painting a beautiful butterfly mural designed by artist Shannon Peel.

“The butterfly is a symbol of metamorphosis and growth, which is central to Reebok’s ‘Life is Not a Spectator Sport’ message,” added Peel. “We wanted to integrate elements that represent energy, movement, strength, and effort, while maintaining a functional playing space that does not distract the kids during play, but rather supports them.”

This Tuesday, Reebok and Club staff presented the revived space to its members for the first time. As part of the unveil, kids and staff received new pairs of Reebok sneakers before enjoying a virtual discussion with Reebok leaders and remarks by local elected officials Jawane Hilton and Cedric L. Hicks Sr., followed by mini-games and activities on their new court.

“This sports court is special because it reminds Club youth that achieving their goals is truly possible by getting out of the stands and actively participating in life—both on the court and off,” continued Richards.

Through brand initiatives like BOKS and its Human Rights Award, and partnerships with key organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Reebok continues to build upon its mission to support communities’ needs, empower the underserved, increase inclusivity, inspire movement, and expand access to play, through 2022 and beyond. For more on Reebok’s “Life is Not a Spectator Sport” platform, click HERE.

Danny Sullivan Celebration

The Italian luxury coachbuilder ARES Modena (which specializes in limited series and one-off supercars for select clients) invited legendary motorsports champion Danny Sullivan to a VIP celebration on February 3rd in the Miami Design District.

The reception was in honor of the nationally acclaimed artist Hubert Phipps who was one of Sullivan’s professional teammates.

The private event celebrated the art exhibition Hubert Phipps: Ascending, which ushered in the arrival of the ARES S1 supercar model for its North American premiere at the new ARES Design Miami showroom (the first ARES showroom in the U.S.).

Luminaries from the art world, including prominent collectors, curators, designers, news media, culture-lovers, and racecar industry leaders attended.

This reception was presented by the award-winning Italian wine Lambrusco Concerto by Medici Ermete winery (awarded for 13 consecutive years Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, winner of “Best in Show Champion Trophy,” and awarded to the International Wine Challenge 2010 in London).

The paintings and sculptures by Phipps surrounded the supercar model in the showroom, creating a striking effect. A sculptor and painter, Hubert Phipps is also a pilot, coming up on his 50th anniversary as an aviator in the tradition of the Phipps family.

The exhibition featured several works born out of the artist’s love for acceleration and for aerodynamic forms. Watch the premiere video HERE of the ARES S1 supercar, and watch a video of the event featuring Danny Sullivan and Hubert Phipps HERE.

“I am honored to have been invited by ARES Miami for this collaboration and am thrilled that my friend Danny Sullivan was present at this special reception,” said Hubert Phipps. “ARES Modena is one of the world’s leading studios of high-performance design and stellar engineering, and this collaboration is igniting new inspirations in my artmaking.”

The title of this exhibition–Hubert Phipps: Ascending–reflects the growing national recognition of the artist, and Phipps’ history with racecars and aircraft. The exhibition debuted during the week of Art Basel in Miami. “Phipps’ background as a champion racecar driver and an aviator is clearly evident in his sleek, captivating artwork. These bold pieces by Phipps created a singular, powerful experience as they encircled our ARES S1 supercar model for its North American debut. The passion that goes into coachbuilding is very similar to producing a sculpture, each is a masterpiece that can be appreciated for its unique shape and design,” adds Dany Bahar, Co-Founder and CEO of ARES Modena.

The new ARES S1 supercar model was flown from Italy to Miami and has never been shown in North America. The one-of-a-kind, automotive work of art is the centerpiece for this exhibition, surrounded by sculptures and artworks by Phipps that are seen as a perfect fit with the creative aesthetic behind ARES Modena’s singular success in automotive design.

Only 24 versions of the ARES S1 supercar will be created in the entire world, each tailor-made to the client’s desires and taste, making each design unique. The ARES S1’s dramatic low-profile is similar to racing prototypes from the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Hand-crafted in carbon fiber, the curvaceous wheel arches, with sculptured side skirts and forward sitting cockpit, give a sleek yet aggressive stance. The S1 is powered by a naturally aspirated V8 delivering power to the wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The interior combines the finest Alcantara and Napa leather that is quilted in specific areas.

These sculptures and artworks by Phipps rev up the space in the ARES Miami showroom, apace with the supercar’s electrifying spirit:  Sky Temple, Voyager, Arch, Lava Flow, Africa 1, and Africa 2, plus a maquette-sized version of Rocket from the private collection of real estate magnate Lawrence Moens. The exhibition also features Phipps’ signature paint pigment drawings: Momentum, Current, Impulse, and Rhythm. The special guest at this event was certified sommelier Mauro Maugliani (WSET Awarded), an Italian wine specialist for the Southeast USA and the Caribbean for Kobrand Corporation.

Maometto Secondo and La Sonnambula

Teatro Nuovo, the innovative young company that brought New York its first opera performances since the pandemic shutdown, announced its return to full indoor activity in July 2022 with Rossini‘s towering Maometto Secondo and Bellini‘s beloved La Sonnambula. The pair of operas will be performed July 9 and 10 at Montclair State University (New Jersey) and July 13 and 14 at Jazz at Lincoln Center‘s Rose Theater.

The company will also resume its renowned training program, giving an immersive course in Bel Canto style and technique to 22 elite young singers who will serve as the understudies and chorus of the two operas. As before, the performances will be accompanied by Teatro Nuovo’s own hand-picked orchestra of period-instrument players, with its groundbreaking restoration of the performance setup used in the Bel Canto era.

“Our approach was radical but unproven when we rolled it out in 2018,” said Artistic Director Will Crutchfield in announcing the new season, “and I’m thrilled to say the results were even more exciting than we could have hoped. We have spent the whole pandemic period working together to take it to the next level, and we can’t wait to share it again with the public.”

Maometto (1820) depicts the Siege of Negroponte by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, a tale of doomed valor, forbidden love, and heroic self-sacrifice under the shadow of war. Sonnambula (1831) is a story of village life and wedding bells, whose joyous finale is postponed by the frisson of a sleepwalking bride mistaken for a ghost.

The headliners of the Maometto cast will be three returning artists—bass Hans Tashjian in the title role, mezzo Hannah Ludwig as Calbo, and tenor Nicholas Simpson as Paolo Erisso – who won accolades last summer as Figaro, Rosina, and Almaviva in The Barber of Seville. They are joined by the brilliant Canadian mezzo Simone McIntosh in her Teatro Nuovo debut as Anna Erisso.

The Sonnambula cast is led by soprano Teresa Castillo as the titular sleepwalker, returning after her debut as Creusa in Medea in Corinto in Teatro Nuovo’s first season in 2018. Elvino will be sung by the Mexican tenor Enrique Guzmán in his New York debut, and returning artists Dorian McCall (bass-baritone), Meagan Sill (soprano), and Allison Gish (mezzo-soprano) will be heard as Rodolfo, Lisa, and Teresa.

Associate Artistic Director Jakob Lehmann emphasized the significance of Maometto, one of the nine serious operas composed by Rossini for the Teatro San Carlo of Naples, and the first one in Teatro Nuovo’s repertory: “We all know the pure delight of Rossini,” he said, “with his melodies, his brilliant orchestral colors, his virtuosity, his strokes of drama. And the farther you get into his mature operas, the more you stand in awe of the architecture. He pushed his blueprints to their limits—the structures grow until they reach as far as the eye can see, but they never bend or break.”

Crutchfield spoke of a complementary quality in La sonnambula: “Bellini never had to invent a musical form in his life—Rossini had done it all. So, he could take that inheritance and fill it to the brim with his unique gift, which was a kind of melody the world had never heard before. People found it hypnotic. Even supposed opposites like Verdi and Wagner were under Bellini’s spell.”

Teatro Nuovo’s orchestra, like those of Italy in the age of Bel Canto, is led jointly by a violinist and a keyboardist, without a standup conductor. In 2022, Crutchfield will serve as maestro al cembalo (keyboard director) for the Bellini opera and Lehmann as primo violino e capo d’orchestra (violinist-director) for the Rossini. They will be joined by two musical directors and co-directors, making Teatro Nuovo debuts: Australian violinist Rachael Beesley in La sonnambula and Lucy Tucker Yates, the company’s Director of Language Studies, as keyboard leader for Maometto. Biographies of these two and the singers mentioned above can be found HERE.

Audiences and critics have been quick to recognize what a difference this makes. At Teatro Nuovo’s debut in 2018, Heidi Waleson reported in The Wall Street Journal that “the effect is transformative.” The following year she returned to observe “an unusually flexible sense of pacing… remarkably different from conventional performances of these operas.” In 2019, James Jorden in The Observer called it “revelatory…the orchestra seemed to beat with a single heart.”

In 2021, Anthony Tommasini in The New York Times wrote of “a fresh, lively performance full of ideas and rich in subtleties” by performers emboldened “to start from scratch and think for themselves.” Philip Pierce, the company’s Executive Director, underlined the ensemble nature of the experience: “Last summer we faced the extreme challenges of the pandemic, with strict health protocols and a fifty-plus company living more or less in a Covid bubble—and never have I seen such discipline and esprit de corps. The joy of making music together in this group is irresistible.”

Russian Athletics Poll

The Russian invasion of Ukraine features death, destruction, a refugee crisis reminiscent of World War II and worldwide condemnation. But beyond the bombs and acts of inhumanity lay multiple levels of lesser significance than the human toll, including the desire for reprisals and boycotts of all things Russian.

Included in that discussion are matters from the world of sports, and a Seton Hall Sports Poll has found that a clear majority of Americans say that governing bodies around the world should use their platforms to sanction national governments and their athletes for hostile actions against other nations and/or human right violations.

The Poll found that by a margin of 61 to 17 percent the general population of the U.S. supports such sanctions, with 67 percent of sports fans and 71 percent of avid fans in agreement. Those who said no to sanctions numbered just 16 percent of sports fans and 15 percent of avid fans. The remainder did not know or held no opinion.

The Seton Hall Sports Poll was conducted on March 11-14 across the United States using a national representative sample weighted according to gender, age, ethnicity, education, income and geography, based on U.S. Census Bureau figures. The Poll featured 1,528 adult respondents with a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percent.

Daniil Medvedev and Grand Slam Tennis

Asked specifically whether Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev should be banned from upcoming Grand Slam tournaments, the general population said yes by a 43-30 percent margin (27 percent “don’t know/no opinion”). Among sports fans, the margin for banning him was 44-33 percent (23 percent don’t know/no opinion) and among avid fans, it was 48-30 percent in favor of a ban, with 22 percent saying “don’t know/no opinion”. Medvedev has been ranked number one in the world, but will lose that position when the new rankings are issued on Monday.

“What is happening in Ukraine is a human tragedy that is significantly more important than sports,” said Professor Charles Grantham, Director of the Center for Sport Management within Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business, which sponsors the Poll. “Banning one of tennis’ top players from a Grand Slam tournament may seem punitive but not compared to Russia’s actions on the world stage.”

Ice Skating

The support for banishment grew even stronger when respondents were asked whether the International Skating Union (ISU) got it right in excluding Russia from the World Figure Skating Championships later this month. That action bars, among the team, Olympic gold medalist Anna Shcherbakova and 15-year old Kamila Valieva, who made headlines earlier this year after a doping controversy. Among the general population, 54 percent supported the ban with only 20 percent opposing it (26 percent said “don’t know/no opinion”). Among sports fans, the ban was supported by a 59-21 percent margin (20 percent “don’t know/no opinion”), and among avid fans, support was 63-20 percent with 17 percent in the “don’t know/no opinion” category.

World Cup Soccer

FIFA, the governing body of world soccer, has banned Russia from the 2022 World Cup competition, and this too was heavily supported by the American public. The general population favored the ban by 64-15 percent, a greater than 4 to 1 margin (21 percent said “don’t know/no opinion”). Among sports fans, support for the ban was even greater, with 69-16 percent favoring sanctions (15 percent said “don’t know/no opinion”). Among avid fans, support rose again to 71-15 percent (14 percent said “don’t know/no opinion”).

Moving Soccer Championship from Russia

Support was similarly overwhelming for UEFA, the governing body of European soccer, for dropping St. Petersburg, Russia as the site of its Champions League final (relocating it to Paris). The general population of the U.S. approved of this move and sanctions by 69-10 percent. Among sports fans, that approval rose to 74-10 percent (a greater than 7 to 1 margin). Among avid fans, an even greater margin approved of these sanctions, with 79-8 percent (nearly 10 to 1) in favor. The “don’t know/no opinion” on this was 21, 16 and 13 percent respectively.

“Soccer is the world’s most popular sport and FIFA’s World Cup and UEFA’s Champions League are its prestigious tournaments,” said Seton Hall Marketing Professor and Poll Methodologist Daniel Ladik. “The exclusion of Russian athletes, teams, and venues sends a small but important message that the world does not approve and will not abide the actions of the Russian state.”
