The piece “Gracias” is an Acrylic and mixed technique piece on canvas with dimensions of 122 x 91 centimeters. Laferte speaks about the piece, stating, “Some of these paintings I did while I was undergoing hormonal treatment to get pregnant. I have never heard anyone talk about the terror they feel, every day is an achievement. These have been the months in which I have felt the most fear in all my life. Never before did I take care of myself as much as I do now. Before I could drink and not sleep for many days and nothing mattered to me, now everything has changed for me. Every decision is critical to the successful end of my pregnancy. Also the hormones have been completely violent. Sometimes I go from happiness to deep depression. Pregnancy is not all tender and rosy. There are days when I feel like a black hole that lives in me is swallowing me.”

Valley Last Birthday The After Party EP Art via Capitol Music Group for use by 360 Magazine

Valley – The After Party

Following a whirlwind 2021, JUNO nominated, alternative-pop band Valley kicked off the new year with the release of a three-track EP, The After Party, out now via Capitol Records.

The After Party is released as an extension of the band’s previous EP, Last Birthday (October 2021) and as lead singer, Rob Laska notes “our most personal songs we’ve ever written as a band to date.” The three new songs mirror the upbeat energy of the previous EP, taking a more somber approach to the music and lyrics. “Last Birthday” is a standout track on this latest project which Valley worked on over the past two years and signifies the final release of the Last Birthday era. “The song really explains what we’ve been trying to put into words for a long time,” the band explains, “in a way it feels like the first song we’re singing directly to ourselves and our fans.” To illustrate the significance of “Last Birthday,” the band shared a Song Stories video explaining the process of writing and creating the new song. Watch the Song Story for “Last Birthday” HERE.

Last year was nonstop for Valley with a steady release schedule, each song capturing the feeling of relatable moments in time while being perfectly danceable. The explosive first single of 2021, “Like 1999” whose genesis traces back to a viral TikTok post that drove the band to finish the track in under 48 hours and went on to push their catalog to over 280 million global streams. The band performed “Like 1999” for the 2021 MYX Awards in the Philippines. Back at home, Valley was selected as Apple Music’s Up Next artist for Canada in September, joining the vast Up Next roster of past Canadian talent including Grammy-nominated and critically lauded talent like 6lack, Daniel Caesar, Jessie Reyez, Orville Peck, and Tate McRae.

Valley burst back into playing live last year, reconnecting with fans across North America. The band played their first American festivals over the summer and recently sold out shows with COIN on a 17-date North American tour. The band finished the year with two epic hometown shows at The Opera House in Toronto. Valley is gearing up for the ‘I’ll Be With You Tour,’ the band’s first-ever headlining tour with 30 dates across North America. The tour is almost entirely sold out with tickets and details available on Valley’s website.

About Valley

Valley, comprised of Rob Laska, Karah James, Mickey Brandolino, and Alex DiMauro, has spent the past two years developing organic buzz through a personal and intimate connection with their fans. Valley put together alternative pop with the care, adventurousness, and personal touch of a handmade burned CD. Cycling through moods like your favorite throwback Pinterest board, the Toronto quartet amplify sticky hooks through eloquent songcraft that’s cognizant of what came before, yet ready for the future. In 2016, Valley formed by accident when a local studio double booked them. During high school, Mike and Karah played in one band, while Rob and Alex played in another. They introduced themselves with self-written, self-produced releases, including the EP This Room Is White (2016), the full-length debut MAYBE (2019) and their EP sucks to see you doing better (2020). They joined Lennon Stella and The Band CAMINO on sold out tours across North America and even picked up a 2020 JUNO Award nomination in the category ofBreakthrough Group of the Year.” Most recently, the band released their latest EP Last Birthday via Capitol Records and joined COIN for a North American tour.

Five Tips for Starting a Gluten-Free Diet

In 2022, consumers have a large selection of gluten-free options, improving their quality of life. For individuals diagnosed with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivities (NCGS) in past decades, their dietary selection was minimal. Whether you live in a region with a vast selection of gluten-free options or a limited variety, you may utilize these five tips to effectively start your diet.

Many individuals struggle to maintain a celiac-friendly diet because of limited awareness and education. When consumers increase their recognition of gluten-free labels and naturally allergy-safe foods, they can achieve a healthy diet without stress. Before evaluating the five tips, individuals may benefit from exploring gluten allergies and their physical impacts.

What Are Gluten Allergies?

Celiac disease results in an immune reaction when one’s intestines come in contact with gluten. The physical response damages the small intestine over time, causing malabsorption. Intestinal degradation causes anemia, weight loss, bloating, fatigue, and diarrhea.

The disease may also cause osteoporosis, skin rashes, mouth ulcers, migraines, and fatigue. Other individuals with the condition experience numbness of the feet, legs, and hands, as well as joint pain. People effectively reduce their symptoms over time by consuming a strict gluten-free diet.

Individuals also treat NCGS with gluten-free diets. The illness is similar to celiac disease, except the condition is non-detectable by certain testing. People with NCGS experience brain fog, abdominal pain, migraines, chronic fatigue, bloating, joint pain, diarrhea, and constipation.

A team of researchers at Columbia University identified the effects of gluten on the intestinal health of individuals with NCGS. They discovered similar immune responses and stomach cell destruction associated with consumption. Researchers believe the reaction may relate to a different component in gluten that causes its lack of appearance on celiac tests.

Scientists look at individuals’ reactions to amylase-trypsin inhibitors (ATIs) and fructans when assessing the cause of NCGS symptoms. Understanding the severity of gluten allergies and their probable causes can support informed dietary choices. The first step to starting a successful gluten-free diet is deepening your understanding of the allergen.

1. Expand Your Gluten Education

Gluten is a protein found in various grains like wheat and rye. It is a naturally occurring part of many plants, and researchers discovered a way to extract the protein. Many processed foods contain gluten as a binding agent, holding them together and adding texture.

The protein is present in bread and pasta because it comes from barley, wheat, spelt, rye, durum, emmer, farro, triticale, and other grains. Some naturally gluten-free grains include rice, quinoa, and oats. It is important to look out for specifically gluten-free oats at the store because some products experience cross-contamination.

If oats grow in a field with wheat or rye, they may receive a coating of gluten, decreasing the safety of their consumption by individuals with allergies. When oats are processed in the same facilities as gluten-containing grains, they also may experience cross-contamination. Remaining aware of the naturally celiac-friendly foods and the risk of contamination supports a successful diet.

2. Identify Sneaky Sources of Gluten

Another beneficial tip for starting your gluten-free diet is remaining aware of the sneaky sources of allergens. Medications and supplements often use gluten as an external coating or filler. Before consuming a new pill, it is important to contact your doctor to evaluate its dietary safety.

Processed meat, poultry, and fish often contain wheat as a filler or bast. Most deli meats, hot dogs, and sausages contain gluten, making them not suitable for consumption by individuals with celiac disease or NCGS. Some meat substitutes also use the protein as a filler, creating dietary challenges.

Imitation seafood, like the crab inside sushi rolls, and seitan, always contain gluten. Some veggie burgers also use wheat and other grains to bind the other ingredients. Many sauces additionally utilize wheat as a thickening agent.

Soy sauce is a common culprit of accidental gluten exposure. Restaurants also regularly add barley to miso, making it not suitable for gluten-free consumers. Fortunately, there are many safe alternatives to wheat-containing foods, like tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.

3. Plan Ahead When Eating Out

The worst feeling is showing up to a dinner out with friends only to realize you cannot eat anything on the menu. Researching a menu before attending a restaurant is the best way to avoid dietary mishaps. Some eateries have designated gluten-free menus whereas others may have zero options.

Calling a restaurant ahead of time is the best way to ensure your ability to safely eat there. Some chefs may even encourage individuals to bring their own gluten-free bread, flour, or pasta to accommodate their dietary restrictions. Individuals can also plan ahead when eating at a friend’s house by bringing a celiac-friendly option.

4. Convert Your Favorite Home-Cooked Meals to Gluten-Free Options

While traditional Italian dishes often contain gluten, individuals can substitute wheat components with chickpea, almond, or rice flour. Consumers with celiac disease and NCGS may make their favorite dishes like pizza using gluten-free substitutes. One pizza recipe uses rice and tapioca flour instead of wheat to create the crust.

It also utilizes xanthan gum to keep the dough together, binding it as gluten would. The crust is also dairy-free and egg-free, making it a suitable option for vegans and lactose-intolerant individuals as well. When making celiac-friendly pizza, it is important to prepare the dough away from wheat-containing dishes to limit cross-contamination.

5. Beware of Cross-Contamination

The final tip for starting a gluten-free diet revolves around cross-contamination. When individuals cook celiac-friendly foods in a wheat-containing kitchen, the meal may come in contact with gluten. Sharing cooking surfaces, utensils, and containers with wheat-containing items can create unsafe dishes for consumers with celiac disease and NCGS.

Flour containing wheat can remain airborne in bakeries for hours, increasing the rate of cross-contamination. Before ordering food from a restaurant or eating at a friend’s house, ensure they have a celiac-friendly kitchen. Many Individuals designate a section of their kitchens to gluten-free meal prep to decrease the risk of cross-contamination.

The Benefits of Eating Gluten-Free

Many individuals benefit from eating a gluten-free diet, especially consumers with celiac disease and NCGS. When you eliminate gluten from your diet, you preserve your small intestinal lining. The diet also decreases abdominal discomfort, migraines, brain fog, and rashes, helping individuals live a normal life without adverse symptoms.

How to Learn to Embrace Change

The past two years have ushered unprecedented changes to daily life, no matter how much media pundits try to pretend everything is normal. The pandemic upended the economy, but the more dramatic shift continues behind the scenes in everyday people’s attitudes.

People now realize the old narrative no longer works. Spending every waking hour away from their family slaving for a company that would replace them tomorrow if they died at their desk is a waste of this one divine life they have been given. They are demanding a radical new direction in the usual order of business.

Some are downsizing, moving off the grid or into vehicles to escape the relentless grind of a societal wheel that demands cash payment for everything but the air they breathe. Others are starting over in other ways, taking new jobs or refusing to return to substandard working conditions, contenting themselves with less.

However, all this chaos amid a pandemic blended with widespread economic uncertainty causes understandable unease. If you feel like the bottom has been pulled out from under you, you are not alone. Here are three principles to guide you through learning how to embrace change — because it is the one thing in life that remains constant.

1.   Establish Your Core Values

Who are you, and what matters to you the most? These questions aren’t ones you can ignore after you declare your college major and settle into your chosen path. They should guide your daily decisions, helping you resolve conflicts by calling upon your core values to make the right choice in how to behave.

Internal conflicts arise when your chosen lifestyle no longer aligns with your core values. It influences everything from your choice of a life partner to your selection of jobs. For example, people who cherish human relationships probably won’t thrive in a role that requires them to deliver eviction notices. Those who crave nothing more than quiet family life in the country could find themselves endlessly frustrated if they chose a loft-dwelling city slicker as their mate.

Establishing your core values isn’t about feeling superior to anyone else. It’s simply defining who you are in the world and what you represent. You don’t have to exclude others from your circle if they have different beliefs — on the contrary, having a firm sense of who you are can give you a greater appreciation of the beauty in diversity.

However, your core values help define what role various other people and organizations play in your life. For example, if you cherish positivity, you’ll limit your contact with those who complain for complaining’s sake. If you don’t like how a certain store treats its employees, you can take your business elsewhere.

2.   Embrace Radical Acceptance

If the events of the past two years taught people one thing, it’s that life isn’t always fair. Some people lost loved ones amid the pandemic, while others lost work and homes. It can seem like lightning strikes with no rhyme or reason, destroying even those who work hard, follow the rules and try to do everything right.

Embracing radical acceptance doesn’t mean taking a dismal view of events, assuming the worst will inevitably occur. It simply means stopping your behavior from turning temporarily negative circumstances into lifelong spirals of despair. It requires you to step back from your emotional reactions and take a neutral view of circumstances, focusing on what you can control and letting go of what you can’t.

Radical acceptance helps you embrace change by breaking the rumination cycle. Think about the mental energy you expend on thoughts like, “what did I do to deserve this” and “why is this happening to me?” While these may be valid questions, you know you’ll never get an answer in this lifetime. All musing on such ideas can do is reinforce your negative emotions, in turn amplifying your mind’s dark whisperings, on and on until you spiral into depression, substance abuse or both.

Achieving a state of emotional detachment helps prevent these dark feelings from becoming behaviors that further deteriorate your situation. If you lost your job, staying in bed in a depressed stupor instead of looking for a replacement can mean falling short on rent. If you turn to the bottle, you could lose your relationship, career or both.

All change requires some hardship. Some circumstances are tougher to navigate than others. Embracing radical acceptance prevents you from letting impulsive emotions make a bad situation worse. It helps you focus on the possibility of a positive outcome — which is at least equally as likely as a tragedy.

3.   Create Meaning Amid the Chaos

If you’ve endured emotional or physical trauma — or both — toxic positivity is an instant turn-off. Words like “everything happens for a reason” ring hollow when you are mourning the loss of a loved one or waving goodbye to most of your worldly belongings, courtesy of an eviction notice.

However, you might do better at embracing change by finding comfort in the works of Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor who went on to become a psychologist and neurologist. He endured unimaginable shifts in his life — and yet, he helped humanity.

In his book “Man’s Search for Meaning,” he discusses how it’s perfectly normal to behave abnormally under abnormal circumstances. What that means is that you should treat yourself gently, the way you would a beloved friend, when you’re going through a radical life change. Instead of beating yourself up for mistakes, understand that you are doing the best you can.

If you’re changing jobs or homes, forgive yourself if you sometimes run short of patience or skip a healthy meal in favor of a fast-food treat. Leave the dishes in the sink if you can’t manage one more thing at the end of a trying day.

Frankl’s main point is that achieving a healthy mindset regardless of horrific circumstances creates a sense of purpose. Think of yourself as the main character in a movie about your life. What would they choose to do in your place? What is their motivation?

Your objectives need not be anything earth-shattering. You might find your purpose in treating everyone you encounter with kindness, putting a smile on one face per day. Imagine if everyone in the world adopted such a goal!

How to Learn to Embrace Change

The past two years’ events have led to unprecedented shifts for many. You aren’t alone if you’re feeling adrift. Ultimately, it’s up to you to create your anchor in life by establishing your core values, embracing radical acceptance, and moving forward with purpose. Following these steps will help you learn how to embrace change.

Apple Music Fitness DJ Mix Series

From Apple Music comes their very own DJ Mix series; a special space where all artists, DJs and producers can come together to produce an exclusive fitness experience, only on Apple Music.

Everyone has a distinguished taste for their workout music, and the Fitness Mix series allows artists to customize their own tracks to create an unparalleled experience for listeners.

The Fitness Mix series is separated into four differing subcategories, which includes Run, Ride, Gym and Yoga. Each mix is solely produced to be worked out to.

The first set of the Fitness Mix series includes mixes from Aluna (Ride), Loud Luxury (Run), Valentino Khan (Gym) and Above and Beyond (Yoga).

Detailed descriptions on what listeners can look forward to in the first round of mixes is featured below.

Aluna: Ride

The first Apple Music Fitness Mix for cycling showcases the British electronic producer and singer Aluna (formerly one half of AlunaGeorge). Aluna set out to encapsulate her DJ point-of-view in the mix, styling the mix for cyclists. “I take whichever club or festival I’m playing all around the world with my collection of global dance music,” Aluna tells Apple Music. “This time, it’s on a bike.” Crafted specifically with a cycle set in mind, the mix flows from a comfortable warm-up to a powerful set of climbs and sprints. Eventually, Aluna directs viewers to what she calls the “sweet spot” of 90 RPM. The combination of all of Aluna’s distinct songs in the mix sets up viewers for a kinetic cycling encounter.

Loud Luxury: Run

The LA-based house due Loud Luxury generated a mix sure to get listeners motivated and amped to run. Inspired by their own personal preference for fitness music, Joe Depace, one half of the group, told Apple Music, “in terms of the set’s structure, we were really intentional about having some sections that are very high-energy, big sing-along moments mixed with sections where it’s a bit more rhythmic and repetitive. The goal here is to keep you on pace so you’re never getting bored but also not losing all of your energy on one song.” The duo referenced their own busy schedules for creativity in the fitness mix, aiming to create something that would be easy to listen and get active to.

Valentino Khan: Gym

All Apple Music Fitness mixes have a shared goal in common; to pump up the viewers and give an essential boost of energy during workouts. Valentino Khan, an LA-based DJ/producer, created the fitness mix for the gym to get anyone through weight trainings, HIIT workouts or any other demanding fitness routines. Khan elaborated on his mix, stating, “I wanted to keep the energy high, while still selecting tracks that were pleasant to listen to play in any setting. It’s a bit of a crescendo, with the higher-energy tracks towards the later stages of the mix. At the same time, I wanted to give people a great ending that they can ride out to.”

Above & Beyond: Yoga

The UK trio Above & Beyond has released three albums since their Flow State project in 2019, with intention “to bring people’s attention and focus towards helping themselves find better mental fitness and overall happiness in life,” Paavo Siljamäki, one third of the group, tells Apple Music. Since collaborating in the past with yoga experts Elena Brower and ChauKei Ngai, the group was the innate choice to cultivate the Apple Music Fitness mix for yoga. The mix is a crucial one, as the flow of the mix will directly correlate to the energy and tempo during one’s yoga workout. “Through raised awareness, being more present, one can reach a state of flow: a creative and free state of mind where time, fear, and stress dissipate,” says Siljamäki. Above & Beyond strives to provide a sense of calm and comfort through this fitness mix.

The share of TV viewers tuned in to this year’s CFP National Championship on ESPN networks was the best on record in the CFP era. 29 percent of people and 38 percent of adults 18-49 watching television Monday night were tuned in to the CFP National Championship.

Streaming Creates MegaCast Magic

Outside of the linear telecasts, Alabama’s Hometown Radio MegaCast was the most-streamed feed for both uniques and minutes. The Alabama and Georgia Hometown Radio MegaCast viewing options saw substantial year-over-year gains across AMA (up 75 percent), uniques (up 30 percent), minutes (up 85 percent), starts (up 20 percent), and minutes/viewer (up 35 percent).

Putting A Bow on Bowl Season

On ESPN, bowl games recorded 2.5 million viewers per game, up 24 percent from 2020 and slightly up from 2019. Of the 27 bowls with a viewership comparison to 2019, 10 had their best audience since at least 2017 and seven had their best since at least 2015.

Across the regular season and postseason, ESPN networks delivered the four most-viewed games of the 2021-22 season (CFP National Championship, both CFP Semifinals, and The Rose Bowl Game) and 59 of the top 100 games overall. ESPN networks were responsible for 62 percent of live game college football minutes viewed this season across all nationally measured linear networks.

Starting with his performance in Casino Royale, a soft reboot of the Bond films, in 2006, he retained his position as the 21st century Bond through the most recent film No Time to Die in 2021.

His departure was a major upset to fans, who were large supporters of the actor since Casino Royale (2006), which was heavily praised partially due to Craig’s performance. While his casting was initially controversial and even ridiculed, Craig was known for his different take on Bond, adding depth and emotionality to the character. This was cemented in the original movie of his time in the role, which included the now iconic storyline of Vesper Lynd, who was continually referenced throughout the series.

From then, Daniel Craig’s Bond went through several changes, including Skyfall, which was a massive success, skyrocketing the career of director Sam Mendes and bringing Craig back into the spotlight. Skyfall is considered by many to be one of the best Bond pictures of all time and is widely beloved by fans. In all, Craig acted in 5 Bond films across 15 years, cementing James Bond as a 21st century figure.

However, Craig wanted a change. He did not want to permanently be Bond, and the character was starting to become his entire identity. A plight common for other actors who have taken on the role such as Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore, Craig sought to expand his identity. While hosting SNL in 2020, portrayed the character several times, including in the opening monologue though he does have a talent to portray comedic roles, as shown with 2019’s Knives Out.

Critically acclaimed Knives Out became a breakthrough role for Craig. Already a fixture in the public eye, Knives Out allowed Craig to show a completely different side to himself as an actor as the comedic Southern detective Benoit Blanc. The film received an Oscar nomination, three Golden Globes nominations, with adulation for Craig’s campy portrayal of a private eye.

With his creative talents turned in other directions, No Time to Die became the last Bond feature he worked on. Thankfully, it was a great way to finish. Directed by Cary Joji Fukanaga (True Detective season 1), this movie was highly enjoyed by fans for the excellent fight sequences, writing, and of course performances. Craig, as always, was incredible, both heart-wrenching and hilarious, and able to keep the audience’s attention throughout the entire 2 hours and 44-minute screen time.

The ending (no spoilers) served both as a deserving resolution for the character and a display of the talents of Daniel Craig. It was beautiful, emotional, and justified for one of the most revered Bonds. It served as an excellent ending to the modern era of Bond films. Only time will tell where Bond will go next.

Where Craig will go next, is a little more solidified than the iconic spy’s future. After 2019’s Knives Out, it’s clear the actor still has a lot to give to the world, possibly with more comedic roles like with Benoit Blanc. With Netflix paying $450 million for two sequels in the franchise, Craig may be at the center of a new film dynasty. Filming for Knives Out 2 wrapped in fall 2021 and much like the original film features a star-studded cast with the likes of Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe, Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, and more.

While Craig’s tenure as Bond is over, his performances cemented him in the history of the famed franchise, ensuring his legacy as a beloved version of the spy. Who knows what his next performances will offer? One thing is certain: his fans and the world will be watching.
