Emma Norton Q×A
In preparation for Halloween, 360 Magazine has been searching for mysterious creatives. TikTok sensation Emma Norton brings that feeling with her extravagant horror inspired makeup looks. Last week we got to ask her some questions. We were dying to know the answers to. Below is our conversation with Ms. Emma Norton.
- When creating a makeup look, where do you draw inspiration from?
First, I want to thank 360 Magazine for your interest in talking with me! It means a lot. I draw inspiration from stories, movies, pop culture, and life experiences. There is also a lot of talented TikTok’ers that inspire me. To be honest, I conjure up most of my ideas from my own imagination. The hard part is making a decision about which idea to execute.
- How long does it take to create a makeup look from start to finish?
For some videos, once I make a decision on an idea, I can turn on the sound and camera and film in 1-2 takes. On the other hand, my more complicated make-up looks (my blue tiger and pop art look are two examples) can take as much as 6-7 hours to complete! I typically do all the production work myself in my makeshift home studio.
- Do you have a particular makeup and costume look prepared for Halloween?
Halloween is hands-down my favorite holiday. Like last year, I come up with multiple Halloween costumes and make-up looks I use for different events or for special videos. I prefer not to say just yet what this year’s costume will be – but I promise it will be show-stopping!
- How does the pressure of having so many followers affect your process of putting together the perfect look?
The fact there are no controls over my creative process or my content is a big deal to me. Sure – at times I feel pressure to increase my followers or maximize views and likes. Some of the looks I’m most proud of don’t receive the love I hope for. But in the end, I’m committed to being a “creative” – and as long as I feel positive about my content, I say bring on the pressure!
- Do you feel your following has impacted your creativity?
I do receive lots of requests – to reprise a character people love (like Harley Quinn), to create a character I’ve never done, or even to livestream a tutorial for a particular make-up technique. I’m grateful for the engagement and suggestions from my followers. But I’m always thinking about new characters and looks! That creative challenge is what gives me the greatest satisfaction.
- What sorts of products do you use?
This question is actually hard to answer! I have so many favorite make-up and clean-up products. I really like Morphe’s Avani Collab and use it all the time. I also love Patrick Starrr’s lashes and IT Cosmetics CC Cream. You can get my clean-up favorites from any supermarket or drugstore. If I have heavy make-up on, I spread coconut oil all over my face to loosen the make-up before using baby wipes for sensitive skin to remove the make-up. For occasional skin flare-ups, I like Clean & Clear Spot Treatment.
- What’s Next for Emma Norton?
As far as future projects, several months ago I relocated from my home in Denver to Los Angeles, and I’m 100% focused on pursuing my dream of becoming a film/TV actor. Acting is my first love. Besides acting, I’m working on a few partnerships with brands that I believe in and look forward to promoting.
I hope to leverage my platform to bring greater awareness to two wonderful organizations. Lollipop Theater is an organization dedicated to bringing entertainment (like me) to children confined to hospitals nationwide. I also support charity: water’s mission of providing clean water to communities worldwide that don’t have access to this basic human necessity.
Finding Balance by Modulating the Immune System
By: James B. LaValle, R.Ph., CCN
Recent world events have caused a healthy immune system to be on everyone’s mind. One of the big revelations to most people over the last few months is just how important our overall health and lifestyle are for our immune system. It’s especially important for people who are overweight or have an existing medical condition, because these conditions can significantly compromise immune responses.
One of the biggest things that can work against us when it comes to mounting a strong immune defense is increased inflammation. When your immune system is working to kill a bacteria or a virus – the immune cells themselves creates inflammatory substances. That’s part of how they fight the bugs. If your body is already inflamed (due to unhealthy diet, being overweight or having a condition like heart disease or diabetes), the additional inflammation from the immune cells can create problems. Anything that causes inflammation hurts our immune response and anything that prevents or fights inflammation helps it.
This is why things like managing our weight, eating a healthy diet, getting regular physical activity and adequate sleep are so important. Good stress management is also important for a good immune response to cold and flu bugs, and it is an often-overlooked factor. Many of us struggle to accomplish healthier diets and overall lifestyles, and this is where supplemental support can help. There are also some precautions to be aware of not only with supplementation, but with lifestyle as well.
Nutrients to Support Immunity
There are nutrients that are safe to take on an ongoing basis to support your immune system function. Vitamin C helps the body make white blood cells as needed. Quercetin is a polyphenol derived from plants that has good anti-inflammatory activity. So, it supports healthy immunity by helping to control silent internal inflammation. Zinc is a trace mineral that is needed to make all immune cells: antibodies, T cells and natural killer cells. Daily recommended intake of zinc is 8 mg for women, and 11 mg/day for men, but we can take dramatically increased dosages when we are fighting a cold or flu (up to 200 mg per day.) However, it is important to go back to the daily-recommended intake once you are better because over-intake of zinc can cause micronutrient imbalances and very high dosages can actually have an inhibitory effect on the immune system. So this is one of the cautions.
Vitamin D is another key nutrient to make sure you are getting enough of for a healthy and balanced immune system. I’ll discuss more on its role in immunity later. Vitamin D levels in the range of 30 – 50 ng/mL is considered an adequate level.
Immune Boosters
There are some ingredients that directly stimulate increased immune cell production. A well-known one is the herb echinacea. Echinacea has long been used to help people get over colds and flu bugs. It is most helpful when taken at the first sign of a cold or flu. However, you should only use echinacea when you are actively fighting a bug, because over stimulating an immune response by taking immune boosters daily can end up fighting against the immune system over time. Also, echinacea is part of the daisy family, so anyone with hay fever or ragweed allergies should not use echinacea.
Imbalanced Immunity
This brings me to an often-overlooked but very important topic for a vigilant immune response to cold and flu bugs – immune modulation. Many people have conditions that create an imbalanced immune system, which is made up of two main sides: TH1 and TH2 immunity. TH1, also known as innate immunity, is the side that fights bacteria, viruses, damaged cells and cancer cells. You need to be able to upregulate TH1 immunity quickly when you are exposed to a cold or flu bug. TH2, also known as acquired immunity, is the side that makes antibodies and causes allergic responses to food and environmental allergens like dust and pollen. This side gets upregulated in people who have allergies and some autoimmune conditions. It can also get upregulated in response to chronic stress, even ongoing physical stress such as occurs in overtraining. Overtraining is most common in professional or amateur athletes, but can occur in anyone who exercises too much, i.e. 2 – 4 hours a day. So this is my lifestyle caution. Be careful not to over-exercise. Signs of overtraining are noticing you take longer to recover from exercise, difficulty sleeping at night and getting sick more often. While it is important to get regular physical activity – moderate activity is best. Try to get at least 30 minutes of activity five days a week and work your way up to an hour, five days a week.
One of the most important supplements I teach about and recommend in my practice is Moducare. Studies show it helps restore balance to between TH2 and TH1 immunity, and by helping to down regulate overactive TH2 immunity, the TH1 side improves so you are ready for colds and flu when you are exposed. So it is one of the best supplements for people to take when they have allergies or autoimmunity. I also recommend it for people who have chronic stress, because chronic stress elevates cortisol, and cortisol suppresses immunity. This is why it is common to come down with a cold or flu when you have been under a lot of stress. It is also why people who have been under stress for years are at increased risk for getting cancer.
Moducare is a blend of plant-based compounds known as plant sterols and sterolins, combined in a very specific 100:1 ratio. Research has shown that the blend of sterols and sterolins in this specific ratio exhibit the best immune balancing activity. One study showed that marathon runners who took Moducare did not get the same immune deficits or cortisol spikes as people who did not take it, resulting in less post event upper respiratory infections for those runners taking Moducare. Because Moducare controls overactive TH2 immunity, this also results in decreased inflammation. Vitamin D is also an immune modulator and this is why it is also a great nutrient for immune support.
One final note – because chronic stress has such a profound impact on immune function, anyone dealing with high stress levels should consider using supplements like rhodiola extract, which is known to help reduce elevated cortisol, as well as Moducare for more direct immune support.
Immune support is probably more involved than you realized, but there is a lot we can do to be smarter in the steps we take. Not only do we need daily good health practices, we can supplement with nutrients and specialized ingredients to support the maintenance of immune cells and immune system balance, and it may well be the single most important thing you can do for your healthy longevity. In turn, when your immune system gets out of balance, it can affect inflammation, mood, and your overall energy, so knowing how to take of our immune system truly can have a positive impact on your daily life. It truly pays to be smart about taking care of ourselves with an eye on our immune system.

SEAN PAUL × SIA – DYNAMITE
The multi-award-winning and Billboard chart topping, Sean Paul reunites with Sia to release their club anthem “Dynamite” – an indisputable pop banger to round out the year. Produced by Banx & Ranx and Greg Kurstin (Adele, Pink, The Foo Fighters), the upbeat single relies on dancehall-centric beats, Sia’s trademark quavering voice as she belts “Light me up and set me free,” and Sean’s undeniable dance inducing riffs.
LISTEN TO “DYNAMITE” HERE.
WATCH THE “DYNAMITE” VISUALIZER HERE
The track marks a highly anticipated follow-up collaboration between the genre-bending artists since their smash hit “Cheap Thrills,” also produced by Greg Kurstin, which has racked up over 1.6 billion YouTube views since its 2016 release.
Of the song, Sean Paul says, “’Dynamite’ started out as just a good vibe song. After recording ‘Cheap Thrills’ Sia and I knew we would record another single and ‘Dynamite’ is the second installment.” He adds “Banx and Ranx, Greg Kurstin, myself and Sia, worked on this single and I hope people gravitate towards it like our first single. ‘Dynamite’ is another feel good record for me and I just want to thank Sia and her entire team, my team Duttyrock, my management team and big up my mom who introduced me to Sia’s music.”
Throughout his career, Sean Paul has carved a home for himself while championing dancehall, as being an artist with a unique sound, look and passion. His ability to show the power and unity in music through various collaborations, across many genres has catapulted his career over the years on various charts, awards and with an enormous fanbase. Effectively Sean has brought that same concept back to his own genre and collaborated with some of his colleagues in reggae and dancehall, highlighting that together we can also make great music.
This year, he released Live N Livin, a collaborative celebration of his Jamaican heritage and dancehall roots in which Sean trades the mic with Buju Banton and Mavado. Dancehall can be stereotyped as a competitive, macho space where sound clashes are king, but Live N Livin is meant to emphasize what’s possible when unity is the goal. “We don’t need to divide our fans to attain the rotations on the airwaves or streams,” Sean says. “I hold this album very dear to my heart because it shows the effort of collaboration over confrontation.”
He’ll bring that spirit to the rest of his 2021 releases, too. Stay tuned for more from Sean Paul soon.
About Sean Paul
It’s rare for an artist to become the personification of their genre. For just a word or phrase from their mouth to conjure the entire artform. Sean Paul is one of those artists. Across seven studio albums and counting, Sean Paul has taken the genre global, from its origin in clubs in Kingston, Jamaica to the top of the charts, packing some of the biggest venues in more than 120 countries. Only Sean has the distinction of being the first Jamaican to play shows in Kazakhstan and Madagascar.
The Grammy Award-winning, international superstar has ignited stages in over 120 other countries, performing for huge audiences in some of the biggest venues around the world. Sean Paul has earned several Grammy and Billboard Music Award nominations and is the recipient of an American Music Award, MOBO Awards, Soul Train Awards, MTV Music Awards, ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards, a Source Award and a BET Award. By: Conan Zhang, Elle Grant × Kai Yeo
Korean pop music, known as K-Pop is becoming a global force. With forceful sounds, charismatic performances, and colorful concepts, it is a maximalist’s dream perception of music. The fans are dedicated, if not overwhelming in their dedication to their favorite artists. Recently, the political successes of K-pop fans are making just as many headlines: fans crashed Donald Trump’s Tulsa rally and have been at the forefront of vocalizing issues related to Black Lives Matter. Who are the artists that inspire such loyalty and such action? Read into 360’s introduction to some of the twenty-first century mainstays below.
Seo Taiji And Boys
Debuted in 1992, Seo Taiji and Boys were and influential 3-member band and are known as the first “boy group” in K-pop industry consisting of Seo Taiji himself, alongside fellow members Yang Hyun Suk and Lee Juno. Their debut single, “Nan Arayo (I Know),” was an instantly catchy hit that topped the charts for a record-breaking, seventeen consecutive weeks and propelled the group to pop mega-stardom.
In April 2017 it was announced that Seo Taiji was assembling a group of modern K-Pop acts to cover songs from his past to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his debut with Seo Taiji and Boys. The first act announced for the project was BTS, with other acts including Urban Zakapa and Younha. The first single from this project, a cover of “Come Back Home” (from Seo Taiji and Boys IV) recorded by BTS, was released with a music video on July 5, 2017.
In case you’re new to K-pop, it might be helpful to add that BTS was also invited by Seo Taiji to perform their rendition of Come Back Home and other acts at their 25th anniversary concert.
