HENDRICK’S GIN × KATZ’S DELICATESSEN

HENDRICK’S GIN AND KATZ’S DELICATESSEN LAUNCH FIRST EVER GIN-INSPIRED PICKLED CUCUMBERS

The Delightfully Peculiar Gin & Iconic Deli Come Together To Create An Unusually Spirited,  Limited-Edition Pickle

Hendrick’s Gin and New York City icon, Katz’s Delicatessen, are proud to announce their first ever collaboration for the launch of the limited-edition Hendrick’s Gin and Katz’s Delicatessen Gin-Inspired Pickled Cucumbers. Hendrick’s, a most unusual gin, and Katz’s Delicatessen, with over five generations of pickling experience, are uniting cocktail connoisseurs and pickle aficionados through a first-of-its-kind gin half-sour pickle: a delectable fusion of gin botanicals and cucumbers.

The marvelous invention draws inspiration from a case of mistaken identity between Hendrick’s key ingredient, the cucumber, and its pickled cousin. What started as an outlandish April Fool’s joke, quickly became a reality, as Hendrick’s Gin and a jar of pickles have more in common than one may have thought. Both Hendrick’s and Katz’s have brought together their unique and secret magisterial recipes to create this unusual medley of botanicals and cucumber, resulting in a radically new kind of pickle, designed to be enjoyed with your favorite pastrami sandwich and refreshing gin cocktail.

Jake Dell, Owner of Katz’s Delicatessen, and Hendrick’s Master Distiller Ms. Lesley Gracie spent countless hours concocting and evaluating flavor profiles and mixtures. Connecting virtually from across the pond to compare results, the masterminds swapped notes and ideas on how to perfect the recipe.

“The signature expression of Hendrick’s Gin is the curious yet marvelous infusion of our eleven botanicals in addition to rose and cucumber,” highlights Gracie. “Naturally, pickles, the cousin of our beloved cucumber, effortlessly blend with our gin’s rich and intricate spirit. The botanicals take on remarkably compatible sensory characteristics when pickled and we’re relishing this opportunity to collaborate on such an exciting endeavor.”

Much like Hendrick’s Gin, the process for creating Hendrick’s Gin and Katz’s Delicatessen Gin-Inspired Pickled Cucumbers was intricate and detailed, with a two-step brining process taking over 72 hours.  Katz’s unique recipe features whole juniper berries and cubeb berries to best incorporate the botanicals of the gin into its half-sour brine.

“To create this particular pickle concoction, we experimented with a variety of botanicals to marry the unique flavor profiles of Hendrick’s and the Katz’s half-sour pickle. Ultimately, the key to creating the distinct and balanced taste of the pickles was emphasizing coriander in the brine, a common ingredient in Katz’s pickles & Hendrick’s Gin,” says Dell.

Hendrick’s Gin and Katz’s Delicatessen Gin-Inspired Pickled Cucumbers will be available for purchase at Katz’s Delicatessen for $14.95 per quart shipping nationwide for a limited time only beginning September 27. Sign up for the launch to secure a spot on their email list to be notified as soon as they become available and purchase a jar for you and yours. The pickles will also be a special menu item at Katz’s Deli beginning September 27, while supplies last. Note:  the cucumbers continue to pickle while in the jar, so it is recommended that they are consumed within 5-6 days.

“The Hendrick’s Gin and Katz’s Delicatessen Gin-Inspired Pickled Cucumbers are as perfect of an accompaniment to a Katz’s Pastrami sandwich as an ingredient in our signature Hendrick’s cocktails,” says Vance Henderson, Hendrick’s Gin National Ambassador. “To bathe the palate in taste and wonderment, we were inspired by the light and alluring notes of the pickles to create an unexpected and refreshingly bright take on classic cocktails.”

First Carbon Neutral Heli Ski Resort

NORTHERN ESCAPE HELI SKIING BECOMES ONE OF THE FIRST CARBON-NEUTRAL HELI SKI OPERATORS IN THE WORLD

Premier Boutique Heli-Skiing Operator Takes Action on Climate Change by Taking a Hard Look at its Operations and Offsetting its Carbon Footprint

Northern Escape Heli-Skiing (NEH) has recently become one of the first carbon-neutral heli-skiing operators in the world. The operator partnered with Synergy Enterprises and Offsetters, Canada’s leading carbon management agency, to take action on climate change and offset its current carbon footprint. NEH purchased offsets that benefit The Great Bear Forest and the First Nations living in the region, as well as the Lara Ceramic plant-based in Brazil by helping to decrease deforestation in the area.

In addition, the operator has a three-year plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and adopt renewable energy sources, such as solar panels and electric vehicles to support its operations. The passion to create a more sustainable approach to heli-skiing comes from NEH leadership. “Over the 35 years of my career as an ACMG Guide, I have witnessed incremental changes in our climate, our snowpack, and our glaciers. The first of many steps to achieve this for us is to become carbon neutral. We need to do the best we can to mitigate climate change and become a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem. Every single department of our company is drilling down to the basics of how we can shift our operations to mitigate our environmental impact.” explains NEH Co-founder & General Manager, John Forrest.

NEH is located in Skeena Mountains near Terrace, BC, and is only a short 90-minute flight from Vancouver. It connects a worldwide community of skiers and boarders to more than 5,500 sq km of pristine wilderness. To be able to do this responsibly, the management of the company, with the help of Synergy and Offsetters, analyzed every single aspect of the company’s operations from mountain commute to the guest experience. “We work with the various recycling companies in Terrace to decrease our use of single-use plastics as much as possible. Once our machines cycle through their lifespan we’ll be replacing them with electric ones, and we’ll be encouraging guests to purchase carbon offsets for their flights,” says Forrest.

NEH is a boutique heli-skiing operator offering a variety of custom packages for small groups of skiers and boarders from all over the world. Guests have an option to stay at two different lodges and enjoy dining by Red Seal chefs, hot tubs, massages, and more. Best Luxury Hotel × History

Have you ever entered a place and feel the historic energy coursing through your bones? In this week’s compilation, we suggest hotels around the world that are filled with history and will certainly make you feel like taking a stroll down memory lane. 360 Magazine is happy to see such beautiful hotels have a huge history attached to them.

NEW: Hotel Motto – Vienna, Austria

The historic building has housed hotels for over three centuries with the first property, The Gold Cross, opened in 1665, which then morphed into Hotel Kummer in 1872 to became a social hub for artists, painters, sculptors, writers, actors, and musicians who gathered for coffee, wine and Austrian delicacies in the hotel’s public spaces. In 1904 the building was refurbished by Ludwig Schwarz, who preserved the original slanted corners and the oversized columns that frame the lobby and entryway to the hotel. The décor of the upper floors was especially elaborate and the interiors have been partially preserved to this day, even after the allied occupation of post-World War II Vienna when the hotel was taken over by the French from 1945 to 1955. Another historical nugget is that Hotel Motto was the birth home of Josef Strauss, son of the famous composer Johann Strauss, who called the hotel home in 1827.

Today Hotel Motto boasts of 83 rooms and 8 suites showcasing fabric-covered walls with floral patterns; custom-designed carpets and tiles are inspired by the framework of the original vintage furniture, and the herringbone hard-wood flooring is seen throughout the property.

NEW: Maalot – Rome, Italy

Located in the original residence of famous Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti (1797 – 1848), known for operas such as Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Maria Stuarda, Maalot Roma aims to attract a multigenerational clientele looking for a vibrant yet cozy locale to gather with their loved ones in the most central part of Rome. A restaurant and a bar are immersed in a glass roof veranda. Signature elements of the 30 distinctive rooms showcase paintings of hats that depict the “setting your hat down and feeling at home” mood.

Designed to celebrate life and social gathering, Maalot’s restaurant Don Pasquale is set to be an all-day dining experience for locals and hotels guests. Named after one of the most renowned works of Gaetano Donizetti, the restaurant is a place to relax, enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine alone or in good company.

NEW: Atelier Inès. Arts & Suites – Naples, Italy

Set in Naples’ Vergini district, right in the center of the old town, the grounds where this new hospitality experience is located were between 1900 and 1930 an open-air cinema and theatre. Annibale Oste’s grandfather then erected the building in 1947 and since then it has been the home of the Oste family. In 1980 the ground floor started hosting Annibale’s art studio where he designed and hand-made each and every art piece found around the world in hotels, art galleries and concept stores, public spaces, private collections, and so on.

Nowadays Annibale’s son Vincenzo, together with artist wife Inès, are at the helm of the family hotel featuring six bespoke suits, a showroom, a jewelry boutique, and a common living area dedicated to art and gastronomy experiences. Guests can join creative workshops to craft their own pieces of jewelry and interior design and enjoy a one-to-one lesson with Vincenzo.

Vilòn Roma: Rome, Italy

Opened in 2018, this boutique hotel caters to cultured, independent globetrotting guests while also welcoming the city’s urban elite. However, the history of the building dates back to the middle of the 16th century. Then it was the historical residence belonging to the powerful and princely Roman family of the Borghese. In 1841, Princess Adelaide (who’s hotel restaurant was named after) entrusted the building to the French nuns of the order of the Daughters of the Cross and they founded, the First School for Poor Girls in an attempt to create an institution for less fortunate girls, where they could receive an education that would equip them for a more positive future.

In recent history, the Vilòn welcomed modern-day royalty when Harry and Meghan stayed at the exquisite Vilòn Suite in September 2019.

Borgo Santo Pietro: Tuscany, Italy

Situated in the heart of Tuscany near Siena, Borgo Santo Pietro is a 5-star luxury resort with a holistic spa, cooking school, Michelin-starred restaurant, 300-acre organic farm, vineyards, and 13-acre beautifully manicured gardens. Each of our 22 rooms and suites is individually styled, inspired by the villa’s rich history, with bespoke details executed by local craftsmen and our in-house artisans using traditional techniques. Pioneer of nature-meets-luxury hospitality and slow-living concept, Borgo Santo Pietro lives up to its history of healing and seclusion – once a place of pilgrimage many found refuge, healing, and regeneration in the place that we now call Borgo San Pietro.

Life House Nantucket: New England, USA

Life House Nantucket is the oldest continually operating inn on the island. The 1833 building on Cliff Road, at one of the highest points on the island, was once a personal retreat for Captain Robert Calder in between whaling expeditions before he opened it up to travelers in 1870.

Today, Life House Nantucket is a nonchalant innkeeper’s eclectic escape that reflects her flair for cultivating the island’s native botany and practicing holistic wellness.

Joel Rivera – ABOLITION & BLACK LIBERATION

The Stonewall Protests

By: Javier Pedroza

Joel Rivera, affectionately known as Joela Joela, was born and raised in the Bronx, New York to a mother with Trinidad and Tobago ancestry and a father from Borinquen (aka Puerto Rico). Ms Rivera is an incredible and inspirational 20-year-old Black Revolutionary who began her revolutionary work in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the rebirth of the Black Lives Matter Movement. This Afro-Caribbean young woman says, “my mission and message are rooted in both abolition and black liberation, believing that both go hand-in-hand.” In fact, she founded The Stonewall Protests to uplift, and inspire the Black Transgender & the Queer community by centering abolition and radical love.

The Stonewall Protests is a widely known organization that brought out hundreds at a time every Thursday for necessary civil disobedience and grassroots work. Joel’s passion, voice, and message reflect the reality that Black Transgender Women face every day. She consistently inspires love, courage, and self-sufficiency. Now, Joel, alongside other comrades of the Stonewall Protests, focus on mutual-aid and community building; Joella says “This new chapter of grassroots organizing and community building for The Stonewall Protests is revolutionary. The act of loving, supporting and uplifting Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities is a necessary form of protesting because in this society we are conditioned to be ignorant, societal robots. It is easy to serve but under this system they want it to be impossible. Once people start loving themselves, they see their worth and we are worth more than what this government gives/takes”.

The Stonewall Protests is actively hosting actions to provide for black and brown communities all around New York City. Joel’s life revolves around creating a new and better world for every human being and the Latino Commission on AIDS is recognizing her contributions. This Fall, Ms. Rivera will be awarded the 2021 Youth Ambassador Award at the annual “Cielo” (Heaven) Gala, held at the prestigious Cipriani Wall Street.
