Revival Friday via Pirelli tires for use by 360 Magazine

New Pirelli Colezione Tire

A new Pirelli Collezione tire is available for owners of the legendary Mini. Pirelli Collezione is a family of tires designed for the world’s most iconic cars built between 1950 and 1980, which unite vintage looks and modern technology.

A Classic Tire with Future Technology

For all the different versions of the classic Mini (including the cars built under licence by Innocenti) Pirelli has recreated the Cinturato CN54 in 145/70 R12 size, which was originally launched in 1972. This is a radial tire with a tread pattern design and sidewall that is similar to the original, but packed with modern technology. In particular, this includes the latest compounds to offer increased grip and road holding on wet surfaces, for improved reliability and control without compromising the original style. During the development of this tire, Pirelli’s engineers worked with the same parameters that the original vehicle designers used, to perfectly complement the suspension and chassis settings of the Mini back when it was new by referring back to original materials and tire designs housed in the Pirelli Foundation archives in Milan.

Pirelli and Mini: A Long Story, Made in Italy

Pirelli started the design of a Cinturato tire for the Mini, with a tread pattern named 367F, back in 1964. One year later, the Mini’s success reached Italy and Innocenti obtained a licence to produce the cars in its Lambrate factory near Milan, with production continuing until 1975. In 1976, Pirelli developed tires for the Mini 90 in 145/70 SR12 size and Mini 120 in 155/70 SR12 size. For the sporting versions of the car, such as the Innocenti Turbo De Tomaso, Pirelli made its special ‘wide series’: radial tires with a wider tread pattern and lower side walls compared to traditional rubber. In the 1980s, Pirelli made the P3 for city cars–which equipped the entire Mini family including the Red Flame, Check Mate, Studio 2 and Piccadilly special editions. Mini was reborn in 2000 under BMW’s wing, and Pirelli homologated the Eufori@ Run Flat tire for the new car: a product that was synonymous with reliability as it was able to drive for 90 miles at a maximum speed of 50mph even when completely flat, thanks to a special construction able to support the entire car’s weight.

Pirelli Cinturato: Technology and Safety

The “fabulous new tire with its own safety belt inside” was how Pirelli described the Cinturato when it was launched, a tire that introduced the radial structure and went on to equip the world’s most significant cars for more than 70 years. With the introduction of the Cinturato CA67, CN72 and CN36, Pirelli invented the concept of the sporting tire for the road–which was needed to provide as much grip as possible for epoch-defining supercars such as the Ferrari 250 GT and 400 Superamerica, Lamborghini 400GT and Miura, Maserati 4000 and 5000. By the mid 1970s, the next big revolution had arrived in the shape of the first Cinturato P7, with its zero-degree nylon belt and a super low profile. The first cars to use it on the road were the Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo, Lamborghini Countach and De Tomaso Pantera. The P7 was followed by the P6 and P5: the predecessors to the P600 and P700 in the 1980s, with improved control when it came to wet grip and cornering. By the time the 1990s came round, the P6000 and P7000 were on the market, improving control and performance still further. In 2009, the Cinturato P7 name made a comeback, headlining on its ability to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, as well as its use of ecological materials, plus improved handling and braking. The very latest Pirelli Cinturato P7 is even better, more efficient and more sustainable, with an intelligent compound that adapts itself to ambient temperatures and driving conditions.

Pirelli Collezione

The Pirelli Collezione family was born with the goal of preserving automotive history through tires that serve a dual yet complementary purpose: maintaining the look and driving feel of the original versions, but improving efficiency and control thanks to modern technology and production processes. The range is filled with legendary names, from the Stella Bianca, first launched in 1927, to the Stelvio, as well as the more recent Cinturato P7 (1974), P5 (1977), P Zero (1984) and P700-Z (1988).  The images, plans and other materials supplied by the comprehensive Pirelli Foundation archive played a fundamental role in reproducing these tires. The Foundation has kept all documents relating to the design, development and production of every Pirelli tire over the years. Pirelli Collezione tires are available from specialized classic car tire dealers, such as Longstone Tires, as well as from Pirelli’s flagship P Zero World stores in Los Angeles, Munich, Monaco, Dubai and Melbourne.

Mini: An Icon of Style and Design Since 1959

The Mini Minor 850 was the first model designed from scratch by the British Motor Corporation and it was initially sold by two different brands: Austin and Morris. It had two different names to match: the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor. The car was designed by Alec Issigonis as everyday transport, but its application for motorsport was soon spotted. In 1961 the first Mini Cooper appeared, which triumphed in Rally Monte-Carlo two years later. This was the era in which the ‘minicar’ phenomenon had well and truly arrived in Italy as well, with room to maneuver and parking spaces in short supply compared to the number of cars on the road. This caused something of a conceptual re-think of the way cars were designed. Production of the Mini in Italy began with the Mini Minor 850, before moving onto the Cooper 1000 and then eventually the Mk2, Mk3, Mini 1000 and Mini 1001. The Italian versions of the Cooper met with great success, as they offered better trim levels than the British versions at a lower price. As the 1970s approached, British Leyland (the successor to BMC) made two decisions. Firstly, they were going to turn Mini into a distinct stand-alone brand, and secondly a new Mini Clubman luxury version would be introduced. In 1984, there were various mechanical modifications, such as front disc brakes, to keep the car up to date. By 1997, the Mini name had been acquired by BMW. In 2019, Mini celebrated the brand’s 60th anniversary, with the exclusive Mini 60 Years Edition introduced.

Mom’s Spaghetti Opening in Detroit

Mom’s Spaghetti–the concept restaurant featuring menu items centered around the legendary lyric from Eminem’s iconic “Lose Yourself”–will be opening a brick-and-mortar location in downtown Detroit. The restaurant, located within the newly-opened Union Assembly restaurant at 2131 Woodward Avenue “in the alley between Union Assembly and The Fillmore,” opens for business at 5:00 pm on September 29.
Eminem and his manager Paul Rosenberg partnered with Union Joints restaurant group–with whom they worked on the original project–to create the permanent location. Stans are likely already familiar with Mom’s Spaghetti; the concept was launched in 2017 as a pop-up at The Shelter, the iconic music venue at legendary St. Andrew’s Hall in Detroit, in conjunction with the release of Eminem’s “Revival” album. The pasta pop-up then made intermittent appearances at various Eminem live festival performances and events over the course of the following year including Coachella, Firefly and Governor’s Ball. During the pandemic, Shady Records contracted Union Joints to deliver Mom’s Spaghetti to frontline caregivers at eight hospitals and to those administering Covid-19 vaccinations at the TCF Center (formerly Cobo Hall) garage in Detroit. Now, Detroiters and those visiting downtown can get their fix of the spaghetti-based menu whenever they are in the area.
“We’ve had a lot of fun putting this project together with the folks at Union Joints, and the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Paul Rosenberg, manager for Eminem. “The previous pop-ups were really a test for us to determine whether there was enthusiasm for a regularly-occurring Mom’s Spaghetti spot that would be open all year long. We are really pleased to announce the arrival of the walk-up restaurant and adjacent upstairs store, called The Trailer, where fans can experience a uniquely-curated environment and obtain merch and other items from Eminem and his new pasta operation.”
Curt Catallo, co-owner of Union Joints, added, “When we were first tapped to create the pop-ups it was an honor for all of us involved. The opportunity to build a permanent location based on an incredibly meta reference was one that everyone at Union Joints, as a Metro Detroit restaurant group, took very seriously. We’re proud of the fact that we created a scratch sauce that tastes like it’s straight from the jar, and wok-firing the noodles gives it that leftover pasta snap. The walk-up window and small diner-like spot for people to eat add to the feeling that this is a homegrown, DIY experience. And The Trailer retail space that Ann (Stevenson) designed is a nod to Eminem’s character in 8 Mile…it’s something that belongs in Detroit, and it feels right at home in this space.”
Keen-eyed Detroiters may have noticed that Mom’s Spaghetti was initially teased with a commercial that ran throughout this past weekend on local television; you can view the spot HERE. Mom’s Spaghetti occupies a small bodega space within Union Assembly. Designed by Ann Stevenson, the space feels as though the rest of the restaurant was built around it… like a longstanding neighborhood holdout that wouldn’t budge. Mom’s is ordered and served via a walk-up window in the alley with limited customer seating inside next to the bodega space.
September 29 also sees the opening of The Trailer, a dedicated Eminem retail space that’s located above the Mom’s Spaghetti kitchen. A nod to B. Rabbit’s trailer from 8 Mile, the space features Mom’s Spaghetti merch, items from the Eminem retail collection (including limited editions and coveted dead stock) and memorabilia from the Eminem archives. Expect drops and rotating stock in this retail space, which is limited to eight Stans at a time.

“We have our incredible staff and docents to thank for this,” said Newport Car Museum Founder Gunther Buerman, “and of course we thank our fans from around the globe for spreading the word about their positive experiences here. If there is an overriding theme in the reviews, it’s that this is a happy place where everyone is welcome. The Museum’s design appeals to all, not just automobile enthusiasts; it’s an art gallery, not a spruced-up parking garage.”

“I know the past year has been extremely challenging for tourism businesses. Little Blues at Birch Aquarium

The biggest news in the history of Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego is little … Little Blue Penguins, that is.  The aquarium announced the addition of the Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins habitat, which will open in summer 2022.

Little Blues are the smallest species of penguin — less than 12 inches tall, weighing just 2-3 pounds — and are known for their unique blue color, and their big personalities. Birch Aquarium will be the only aquarium in the Western U.S. to house these gregarious sea birds.

“We are so very excited to be adding the Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins to Birch Aquarium at Scripps. The new facility will allow us to contribute to an international Species Survival Plan and create an interesting new guest experience,” said Executive Director, Harry Helling.  “Little Blue Penguins will be wonderful ambassadors that can help us to engage our community more deeply and further our mission to connect understanding to protecting our ocean planet.”

Ground-breaking for this exciting project will begin on Sept.  27 with completion expected by spring.  Birch Aquarium will be closed Sept.  27-30 to avoid negatively impacting the guest experience. Beyster Little Blue Penguins will be installed in the Nigella Hillgarth Education Courtyard.

Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins is named in honor of a $1 million gift from the Beyster Family, who are long-time supporters of Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Birch Aquarium.

“Their graceful swimming and diving abilities and awkwardness on land have endeared these little Southern Australian marine animal ambassadors to the Beyster Family. We are proud to support Birch Aquarium’s mission to shed light on the survival challenges that Little Blue Penguins face along with other seabird species,” said James Beyster.

In Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins, guests will be immersed in the world of Little Blue Penguins, learning about some of the challenges facing these birds in the wild, and how our future is tied directly to theirs. The 2,900-square-foot exhibit will include  rocky and sandy shore habitat and an 18,000-gallon pool where guests will observe the penguins socializing, interacting, and nest building. The exhibit also includes a small amphitheater for guests to observe birds swimming, and a discovery cave for children to closely observe Little Blue Penguins on land and inside nesting burrows.

“Little Blue Penguins and other seabirds are sentinel species for our ocean’s health and help us understand how we can be better stewards for our planet,” said Jenn Nero Moffatt, Senior Director of Animal Care, Science and Conservation. “Penguins, by their unique nature, are adored by our community and in this way help to serve as great animal ambassadors.  We hope that one look at their awkward waddling, their pint-sized bodies, torpedo swimming and social nature will leave our guests enchanted, and wanting to learn how to aid in conservation efforts.”

Little Blue Penguins are native to the coastal dunes and rocky shores of Southern Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand and are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) collaborative international conservation program called Species Survival Plans (SSP). Each SSP Program coordinates the individual activities of participating member institutions through a variety of species conservation, research, husbandry, management, and educational initiatives

Though penguins are common in zoos and aquariums, only a handful of AZA institutions have Little Blue Penguins. They are Dallas World Aquarium, the Bronx Zoo, Adventure Aquarium, Louisville Zoo, and the Cincinnati Zoo.

Six Little Blue Penguins from Dallas World Aquarium are currently behind-the-scenes at Birch Aquarium, in an aviary built especially for them. Ten additional birds are expected to arrive from Australian zoos ahead of the opening.

In addition to the naming gift made by the Beyster Family, generous gifts have also been received by Julia R. Brown to name the aquatic animal life support system, Miranda Ko and Jared Cui to name one of the penguins, and a gift from an anonymous donor to name the amphitheater. These gifts also contribute to the Campaign for UC San Diego.

There are still many opportunities for the community to support the Little Blue Penguins habitat including the naming of individual birds, the children’s discovery cave and the VIP Observation and Conservation suite, as well as several others. Those interested in making a gift or learning more, may contact Adeline Duke at amduke@ucsd.edu or (858) 822-5803.

Once open, the Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins habitat  will be included in the cost of Birch Aquarium admission. More information here.

PVRIS along with the video. Watch HERE. Alternative Press praised the track by calling it “…the perfect blend of both artists’ strengths and distinct artistry.”

About Rezz

26-year-old Canadian DJ/producer Isabelle Rezazadeh AKA Rezz has racked up tens of millions of streams, sold out legendary venues and headlined top festivals around the world. She oozes originality and produces genre-bending electronic works, striking a sharp balance between bass-heavy and minimal tech compositions. She graced the cover of Billboard’s 2019 Dance Issue and has been attributed as being at the forefront of the dance and rock music crossover. 2020 marked a banner year for the producer who released her first single through RCA Records “Someone Else” with Grabbitz which has garnered over 50 million streams worldwide and reached #15 on Alt Radio in the US and #1 in Canada. Alternative Press praised the song upon its release, including it as the lead track in their weekly playlist. They called the video “another high point in Rezz’s canon,” saying, “…the song evokes a sinister groove that will appeal to dance music devotees as well as industrial rivetheads…Rezz is heavily featured in a documentary called “Underplayed,” available on Amazon Prime Video, which highlights the current issues female DJs face in the dance industry.

White Lies – New Album

White Lies announced the details of their forthcoming sixth album As I Try Not To Fall Apart, which will be released on [PIAS] on February 18th, 2022.

In addition, today the band share the title track from the album and an accompanying visual.

On the track they share: “We wrote this song quickly, late one night, and often the songs which come quickest are written from the gut and the heart, not with the head. We wanted the melody to feel like a hymn, to give the confessional lyrics weight despite being wrapped up as a pop song. It’s about accepting vulnerability as a man, and knowing it’s ok to be broken. There’s never been a more pressing time to spread the message that it”s ok to not be ok.”

The track is accompanied by a stimulating video directed by James Arden aka The Trash Factory.

Talking about the vision for the video, he says: “The track made me think of people trying to lift themselves out of emotional spirals – navigating feelings of fragility and fighting everyday pressures just so they can keep it ;together – ;and it made me think about how we can be buried and overwhelmed by our feelings and emotions, and how we could explore that, visually.”

Harry from White Lies adds: “Being buried in sand was too mad to pass up. The sensation was really chilling and I was picking sand out of my ears for days, but I’m thrilled with the video, it really carries the message of the song and it looks beautiful.”

Recorded at Sleeper and Assault & Battery studios in West London, the album sees long-term collaborator Ed Buller, who has worked on many of their albums including their debut To Lose My Life, return to produce several tracks along with Claudius Mittendorfer (Weezer, Panic! At The Disco) also producing and mixing the entire album.
