DIDIER FASSIN — DEATH OF A TRAVELLER

It is a simple story. A 37-year-old man belonging to the Traveller community is shot dead by a special unit of the French police on the family farm where he was hiding since he failed to return to prison after temporary release. The officers claim self-defense. The relatives, present at the scene, contest that claim. A case is opened, and it concludes with a dismissal that is upheld on appeal. Dismayed by these decisions, the family continues the struggle for truth and justice.

Giving each account of the event the same credit, Didier Fassin conducts a counter-investigation, based on the re-examination of all the available details and on the interviews of its protagonists. A critical reflection on the work of police forces, the functioning of the justice system, and the conditions that make such tragedies possible and seldom punished, Death of a Traveller is also an attempt to restore to these marginalized communities what they are usually denied: respectability.

The Author:

Didier Fassin is the James D. Wolfensohn Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, a Director of studies at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris and a Professor on the Annual Chair of Public Health at the Collège de France.

Advance Praise:

“In seeking to do justice to yet another young life, another racialized suspect, snuffed out in the name of public order, Fassin provides a stunning indictment of a new moral economy: a culture of institutional duplicity that allows police to get away with murder.”Jean Comaroff, Harvard University

“How can an account of a controversial killing do justice to it sociologically and according to the laws of the land, and at the same time politically and humanely? This is the multifaceted conundrum addressed by this beautifully written and meticulously crafted book. A riveting must-read for all those concerned by the broader meaning of death at the hands of the police, in France and in other countries.”Dame Caroline Humphrey, University of Cambridge

JONAH NILSSON — NOW OR NEVER

FEATURES “DIAMOND RING” WITH LEGENDARY GUITARIST STEVE VAI AND NEW SINGLE “INDEPENDENT GIRL” WITH GRAMMY WINNER JACOB COLLIER

SIGNED TO QUINCY JONES MANAGEMENT, VIRAL GENRE-DEFYING ARTIST BREAKS THE MOLD WITH MASTERFUL SOLO DEBUT

“Uber funky” —Guitar World

“A mix of pop, funk-soul and R&B with Nilsson’s own distinct retro-twist… The record displays Nilsson’s vocal range and knack for crafting catchy melodies as the singer delivers the goods in excess.” —Earmilk

Jonah Nilsson, lead vocalist for Dirty Loops, a major YouTube sensation with over 60 million views to date, is breaking new ground today with his debut solo album Now Or Never, available via Jammcard Records. Totally individual and complex in his creation, the pop virtuoso combines elements of R&B, funk, soul and disco for a confident release that hits on all the right beats. Now Or Never includes the recent singles “Diamond Ring” with a shredding guitar solo from the legendary hero Steve Vai, as well as the cover of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” featuring Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Anomalie and Justin Lee Schultz. Fresh off the record is a brand new single “Independent Girl” with 5-time GRAMMY winner Jacob Collier.

According to Jonah, the effervescent track “Independent Girl” has been years in the making. “A few years back I flew to London and wrote this song together with Jacob at his studio. This song is the result of two friends who’ve known each other for a long time, hanging and writing together. It makes it extra special for me to release this out into the world.”

Packed with high-energy bangers, Now Or Never delivers on every level of pop greatness, even tugging on the heartstrings with songs like “Borrowed Time” and “I Just Need” with Tobia Grenholm on bass and Jesper Naenfeldt on guitar. Jonah says “I Just Need” is a song that “goes out to all you lovers out there! I hope to be singing this at a lot of weddings! Don’t forget to tell your loved ones that you love them!”

Signed to Quincy Jones management, the music industry mogul has long been a fan and supporter of Jonah since his early days. Quincy discovered the Swedish singer and multi-instrumentalist through his work with Dirty Loops, before taking him under his wing. Quincy even makes a special cameo in the music video for “Diamond Ring,” a track that also has contributions from Grenholm (bass), Naenfeldt (guitar), Kristian Kraftling (keys) and Kefa Figaro (drums).

“He’s different though, he’s got the perfect balance of right brain creativity and left brain music theory. It’s in his blood,” praises Quincy Jones. “He’s got soul, with one of the biggest ranges I’ve ever heard.”

As a funk-pop artist, Jonah has come a long way since his childhood dreams of becoming an artist. Singing has been part of his life essentially since birth. Jonah started singing at his parent’s church choir at the tender age of one. Then, at the onset of his skyrocketing career, Jonah’s life changed overnight when he and a couple long-time friends uploaded their own covers of huge pop hits like Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby” to Youtube. The unique covers spread like wildfire in the music community, garnered them millions of views and got them the attention of many acclaimed artists, namely 16x GRAMMY Award winning producer David Foster. David took them under his wing and signed the trio named Dirty Loops to their first record deal at Verve Records. And just like that, Jonah went from singing in his friend’s basement to becoming an international touring star.

Jonah has made a name for himself through his pop sensibilities, R&B tendencies and wide knowledge of music theory from his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, which set him apart in this new democratized era in which almost anyone can call themselves an artist.

Since Jonah’s early rise to fame, he’s since got a few headliner world tours under his belt and has acquired a significant fanbase of high-profile musicians, including Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, Brian McKnight, Rodney Jerkins, Dallas Austin and the incredible Stevie Wonder. Even though that’s enough for some, Jonah’s humble demeanor continues to push him forward. His cheery outlook on life gives you the sense he’s unfazed and ready to continue giving the gift of music.

Jonah’s debut single, “Coffee Break,” featuring Richard Bona, was self-produced and released in 2018—one version which also features LUCAS from the massively popular K-pop group NCT and released by SM Entertainment. Jonah will continue to share new music, and when asked about how his music differs from Dirty Loops, he says that the music will continue to have the flirtatious and cheeky sound that they were notorious for, but with more R&B and pop elements.

“I never in a million years thought I’d be here,” confesses Jonah. His piercing blue eyes and huge smile gives you the feeling that he’s wholeheartedly telling the truth. “Living in the present has kept my feet on the ground. I just want to create meaningful music… everything else that happens is extra.”

GEORGE O’HANLON RELEASES HIS DEBUT EP – THE STORM

One of the UK’s most promising young songwriters, George O’Hanlon releases his debut EP, The Storm, and the brand-new feature single “This Town,” out now via Harvest Records. Listen to the full EP here.

Starting with a plaintive electric guitar-line and O’Hanlon’s soothing vocal, “This Town” slowly transforms into a taut rocker exploding into an emotive crescendo.

“’This Town’ was written about growing up in a certain kind of place and when it feels like there’s a certain path laid out for you and all you want to do is go the other way.” George elaborates.

“Years of work have gone into releasing this EP. the people I’ve met and worked with along the way have been incredible. For me the EP isn’t so much about the songs as it is me reaching a point in my life and doing something, I never thought I would,” he continues.

Featuring previous singles “The Weight” and “The Storm,” George’s debut EP is a stunning, sonic calling card for the 21-year-old songwriter. Each of the four tracks is an emotional vignette that demonstrates George’s ability to weave the pieces of everyday life into his evocative music.

Already winning fans at radio, George is picking up early support from the likes of Abi McMcarthy at BBC Introducing and Jack Saunders at Radio 1.

Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley and Thom Yorke, O’Hanlon’s song-writing is both literary and deeply personal, incorporating his own life experiences into his work while framing them from different perspectives.

Over the last few years O’Hanlon has been refining his playing and song writing and is now ready to share his music with the world. Following a few early gigs on the college circuit, George expanded out into a series of shows at grassroots venues, adding additional players to his live show and honing his live performance. He’s recently announced dates for his first ever UK tour in September.

Given the sheer power of his music, O’Hanlon looks set to establish himself as an exciting new talent to watch throughout 2021!

LILA IKÉ — “BATTY RIDER SHORTS” VIDEO

Her New Single Calls To Protect Our Children from Sexual Predators

“Lila’s vocal agility can bend notes and transcend genres, the kind of voice that makes you want to turn to your friend at a show and say “Is she for real??” — NPR Tiny Desk

Rising Jamaican star Lila Iké reveals the video for her brand new single “Batty Rider Shorts,” available now via In.Digg.Nation Collective/Six Course/RCA Records. You can watch the video, directed by Dezignr Studios, HERE.

The Jamaican singer shared a personal story behind the song. “I have been writing ‘Batty Rider Shorts’ for over a period of four years. This song was inspired by a situation I observed within my community. An innocent child (age 10 or so) who I would often sit and speak with about life and give words of encouragement (even whilst I was a child myself ) eventually was taken advantage of by someone who should have been looking out for her. I was moved to tears on my drive back from the country as I thought about how her light became infiltrated by the dark energies that are hovering over children everyday, all over the world. We need to all be more responsible as a community, as friends, as parents, as extended family and just as people. Look out for each other but most importantly our children.”

The powerful track, produced by Ziah .Push, is her first original solo song since the  release of her 2020 debut EP The Experience.

Oct 13, 2021 @  Doornroosje in Nijmegen, Netherlands

Dodi Blunts × Last Prisoner Project – Apprenticeship Program for Justice-Impacted Individuals

Dodi Blunts and Last Prisoner Project (LPP) are excited to announce the Dodi Blunts/Last Prisoner Project Apprenticeship Program. This program is designed to help LPP constituents take their first step back into working society and offers them the mentoring, training and hands-on experience needed for a career in the cannabis industry. For 90 days, the apprentice will work with Dodi Blunts, gaining valuable experience and industry connections needed for a flourishing career in cannabis.

“Having a cannabis felony on your record makes it very hard to earn gainful employment,” said Jeff Goldenberg, Co-Founder of 2nd and Goal Ventures, the company behind Dodi Blunts, “Helping LPP constituents gain a foothold in the cannabis industry makes a ton of sense, given what the industry has taken from the community.”

The program starts in consultation with the apprentice – to determine their skills sets, experiences and interests – and determine an area of focus. The apprentice is also rotated through several different areas and functions to gain a wide variety of experience. Finally, once the program is successfully completed, the apprentice will continue their employment with Dodi or another company in the cannabis industry.

The apprenticeship program is the first initiative between Dodi Blunts and Last Prisoner Project since the launch of Dodi in April. Dodi Blunts is the brand of former NFL superstar Marshawn Lynch, who recently signed on to become a Last Prisoner Project Ambassador. The two organizations have plans for many more initiatives over the coming year.

Last Prisoner Project is not just talking about second chances but really being about it. It only makes sense that those affected by their cannabis past have a chance to let it play a part of their futures too,” said Marshawn Lynch.

“We are beyond excited to team up with Dodi Blunts in this way,” said Last Prisoner Project Managing Director Mary Bailey. “It’s so important that these justice-impacted individuals are given a path forward and Dodi has really stepped up to the plate in a way that we at Last Prisoner Project are so appreciative of and we hope other cannabis companies will follow suit.”

The first apprentice under the new program is Katree Saunders who, in 2011, was convicted on federal charges of possession and intent to distribute cannabis during a federal effort to crack down on Nevada marijuana dispensary operators before retail sale of weed was legalized in the state. Almost a decade later, she’s still working to rebuild her life.

“Being the first LPP constituent in the program, I am excited and thankful at the same time,” said Katree Saunders. “This opportunity with Marshawn and the Dodi brand means a lot to me after being a justice-impacted individual. Having recently graduated Columbia Business School for Entrepreneurship and being accepted to the apprenticeship program, I feel like I can be a shining example of what is possible after being affected by the collateral damage of this failed War on Drugs. It’s the chance to be resilient, while making a positive impact on the community. Just because you have been formerly incarcerated, doesn’t mean you have no goals or dreams you would like to accomplish. It has given me inspiration.”

About Last Prisoner Project:

The Last Prisoner Project (LPP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to cannabis-related criminal justice reform. As the United States moves away from the criminalization of cannabis, giving rise to a major new industry, there remains the fundamental injustice inflicted upon those who have suffered under America’s unjust policy of cannabis prohibition. Through intervention, advocacy, and awareness campaigns, the Last Prisoner Project works to redress the past and continuing harms of these inhumane and ineffective laws and policies. Visit the Last Prisoner Project Website or text FREEDOM to 24365 to donate and learn more.

About Dodi Blunts:

Dodi Blunts invites fans to unite their love for sports and cannabis through high quality, high potency cannabis products, that elevate communities, support social equity issues and represent the Bay Area vibe. The brand is the brainchild of NFL superstar Marshawn “BeastMode” Lynch who professes to “having a love-love relationship with Dodi.” Dodi aims to provide the most innovative, highest potency products while exporting Oakland weed and strains to the rest of the state and the world. Dodi isn’t just a weed brand – it’s a community, a vibe and a revolution. AUSTRALIAN COOL KID YOUNG FRANCO CREATIVE VISUAL – COME THRU

Following the release of his breakout single “Fallin’ Apart” featuring Denzel Curry Pell, Young Franco returns with a visual for his highly addictive single “Come Thru” featuring SonReal & Jalmar. As a track, ‘Come Thru’ deals in the provision of positive energy and trusting your inner confidence. Combining a glitchy synth line with laid back drums and a sexy slick bass line creates a melting pot of formidable two step and raucous energy. Watch here.

Directed by Filipino-Canadian director Khrysta Lloren (also known as NOFAC3), “Come Thru” focuses on surrealist experimentation and queer expression through multimedia art. Inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas and Radiohead’s music video for “Burn The Witch,” “Come Thru” transforms Young Franco, SonReal & Jalmar into claymation avatars in a hyper-visual world that’s not quite what it seems.

“When I was conceptualizing for Come Thru, I knew I wanted to create an absurdist fiction through the eyes of Young Franco’s clay character. From sculpting each character’s detail to decorating the set, working behind the scenes was just as surreal as the music video,” says video director Khyrsta Lloren. “Everything was scaled down to the size of my hands and you can actually see fingerprints on clay which is a reminder that it’s all handmade. Working with Young Franco and the team was so comforting during the late stages of this pandemic which kept our creative juices flowing.”

A joint effort from start to finish, the trio combine their respective sonic universes, whether established or blossoming, to meet comfortably in the middle. The Canadian raised, LA based rapper SonReal has accumulated over 165 million Global streams and 125 million video views. He has been nominated for multiple Juno Awards throughout his career and one of Son’s previous releases ‘Can I Get A Witness’ has gone on to be certified Double-Platinum in Canada. “Come Thru” is a very handy head start for the Melbourne based / Chilean born and ready to explode rapper, Jalmar, with Young Franco introducing the talent to a global platform. With more original music teased for 2021, the future is looking bright for Jalmar.

Young Franco’s project is currently sitting perched above the clouds, with career highlights being ticked off with every subsequent release. His most recent single, “Fallin Apart” featuring Denzel Curry and Pell took the already glowing artist to angelic levels, which was featured in an Emmy Nominated commercial for Apple Airpods. The single received a full add on Triple J, as well as radio spins globally, and featured on publications such as Clah Magazine, NME, Out Now Magazine, Colors, Sniffers, Happy Mag, Acclaim, Purple Sneakers, Pilerats and more. The track also featured as the soundtrack for Apple’s Airpod ‘Jump’ campaign which has garnered over 10 million views on YouTube and premiered during the Grammys broadcast.

Zella Day Releases New Song × Video – Golden

Zella Day is thrilled to release a brand new song called “Golden” via Concord Records. “Golden” is full of luminous harmonies, a shimmery, skirt-twirling disco beat, and one of the best choruses Day has ever written. A video for the song, directed by Corey “Titanic” Sinclair, and concepted by Day and Titanic, can also be seen today as well.

Says Day about the song, “The Genesis of ‘Golden’ happened as a tornado was tearing through Nashville and whispers of a global pandemic were evolving past a rumor. I was in Alabama writing with John Paul White as my phone was lighting up with messages from friends and family back home. I was supposed to drive back to Nashville that evening, but plans changed like the weather. In the stillness of the studio, ‘Golden’ was written communicating with powers beyond my control, expressing and coping with the magnitude of the situation by creating art; singing a melody into the moment to address its fragility and infinite beauty.”

Click here to listen to “Golden”

Click here to watch the video for “Golden”

“Golden” is a taste of Zella Day’s highly anticipated sophomore album, which is due out this fall. Recorded with producer Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Emmylou Harris), the album features guest turns by Local Natives’ Ryan Hahn, Day’s longtime collaborator John Velasquez, drums by Autolux’s Carla Azar, and bass by Cage The Elephant’s Daniel Tichenor.

“Golden” follows the release of the songs “Dance For Love” and “Girls,” and all of them will be featured on Day’s sophomore album. The tracks together are a brilliant glimpse at what is set to be a career-defining musical year for Zella Day, whose songs have amassed millions and millions of streams already. In addition to the duet with Weyes Blood earlier this year, Day also appeared on Lana Del Rey’s Chemtrails Over the Country Club this past March, covering Joni Mitchell with Del Rey and Weyes Blood in a symbolic passing of the sonic torch from one great LA singer/songwriter to the new generation. Day’s forthcoming sophomore album follows 2020’s EP, Where Does The Devil Hide, produced by Dan Auerbach, and released by Concord Records.

Day is a recently-announced addition to this year’s ACL lineup for both weekends, in addition to playing this year’s Beachlife Festival, taking place in Redondo Beach, CA the weekend of September 10th, 2021. The singer is also set to open for the acclaimed band Silversun Pickups on select dates this fall.

TENILLE TOWNES Video Shoot BTS Photo_Credit-Lathrop Schmidt from Meghan Kehoe, RCA Records foruse by 360 Magazine

TENILLE TOWNES’ POWERFUL MUSIC VIDEO – GIRL WHO DIDN’T CARE

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Tenille Townes’ powerful and inspiring music video for her new song “Girl Who Didn’t Care” is available to watch now.

Watch it here.

Townes’ vision for the new music video is to inspire young girls to always chase their dreams, no matter how hard or how distant they may seem.

To help bring Townes’ vision to life she tapped Mason Dixon to direct the video and enlisted the help of three real-life ‘girls who didn’t care.’

“I am so excited about this music video and honored to have Alyssa, Sarah, and Shannon be a part of it,” says Townes. “It was incredible to see the idea for this video come to life with all of them in it. I believe it’s a really powerful thing to see real people living out real stories of chasing their dreams. It’s what makes a dream seem like a possible thing. I hope when people watch this, they feel inspired to chase their own dreams.”

Appearing in the music video alongside Tenille Townes is Sarah Fuller who last year (2020) was the first woman to play, and score points, in a Power Five College Football game when she stepped in as a place kicker for Vanderbilt University.

Alyssa Carson spent her entire childhood attending space camps around the world and is the only person to have attended every space camp offered. In addition, Alyssa was selected as one of seven ambassadors representing Mars One, a mission to establish a human colony on Mars in 2030.

Shannon Wells decided to go into public service at a young age when her grandfather told her about his time in the military. Today Shannon is a firefighter in Nashville, Tennessee. She was one of two females in her training class.

Townes wrote “Girl Who Didn’t Care” with David Pramik and Steph Jones, and it is available via Columbia Nashville in partnership with RCA Records.

About Tenille Townes

Canadian-born and Nashville-based, Tenille Townes is a two-time ACM Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician in the midst of a breakthrough year following the release of her acclaimed debut album, The Lemonade Stand. Available now via Columbia Nashville in partnership with RCA Records, the album was produced by Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town) and consists of twelve songs all written by Townes. Since its release, Townes has been named New Female Artist of the Year at the 55th ACM Awards, won three awards at the 2020 Canadian Country Music Awards, making her an eight-time CCMA winner, and received her first JUNO Award for COUNTRY ALBUM OF THE YEAR at the 50th Annual JUNO Awards. She is also the first female in Mediabase Canada history to achieve two No. 1 singles with album tracks “Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)” and “Somebody’s Daughter.” Adding to an already notable career, Townes is a MusicRow 2020 Next Big Thing Artist, an iHeartCountry’s “On The Verge” artist and has raised over $2 million for charity through her annual Big Hearts For Big Kids fundraiser.
