C.S. Armstrong Reveals Deep Covers 187

Today, critically acclaimed R&B force of nature and 21 century bluesman C.S. Armstrong reveals his brand new Deep Covers 187 mixtape exclusively on Audiomack. Listen to it HERE via Republic Records.

On the project, he brings raw soul to stripped-down renditions of H.E.R.’s “Damage,” Lorde’s “Royals,” Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky,” and SZA’s “Good Days” as his soul-shaking delivery quakes over passionately picked guitar and intense keys. These four tracks will only be available on Audiomack, while his cover of “Limit To Your Love” by James Blake and Feistcan be found on all DSPs.

Carving out his niche with cover songs, C.S. Armstrong has also recently reimagined Gnarls Barkely’s “Crazy,” Summer Walker’s “Session 32,” and Sade’s “Sweetest Taboo.” Additionally, he teamed up with none other than Black Thought of The Roots for “Welcome To America” from the Judas and the Black Messiah Soundtrack. Attracting critical praise, The New York Times highlighted Armstrong’s “gritty vocal choruses.”

All of this follows the release of “Own Two” featuring Jay Rock which will be included on his forthcoming major label debut album.

Born to a single mother in the service with a preacher grandma in his corner, C.S. Armstrong traveled an unbelievable road one step at a time. At 10-years-old, he preached in church as an ordained minister. At 16-years-old, he earned respect in the streets with his fists. At 18-years-old, he enlisted in the military to serve his country. Eight years later, he rolled into New York and lent his voice to one hip-hop banger after another. His instantly recognizable vocals shined on Statik Selektah’s “In The Wind” [feat. All-Star Tribute Features LIVE Performances from Music Legends B.B. King, Stevie Wonder, Lalo Schifrin and Dee Dee Bridgewater

KCET, showcasing the best of PBS and the leading source for arts, culture and news in Southern California, announced the airing of the concert documentary SOUTHLAND SESSIONS special “Kenny Burrell: Jazz Master and Mentor” timed to the trailblazing jazz artist’s 90^th birthday. The 90-minute concert documentary weaves archival footage, performances and interviews with legendary jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell including a behind-the-scenes look from his 80^th birthday celebration at UCLA’s historic Royce Hall in 2011. SOUTHLAND SESSIONS: “Kenny Burrell: Jazz Master and Mentor” premieres on Wednesday, August 4 at 10 p.m. on KCET.

The show features performances by Burrell and musical luminaries like blues legend B.B. King, multi-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder, pianist Lalo Schifrin, Grammy-winning vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater and others. The 18-piece band features the first performance of Los Angeles’ repertoire orchestra, the Los Angeles Jazz Orchestra Unlimited (LAJOU), and a standout set from renowned four-horn and four-rhythm jazz tribute ensemble, Jazz Heritage All Stars. Interviews with Burrell and his peers tell the story of his commitment to the future of jazz, as a performer, teacher, and founder of the Jazz Studies program at UCLA.

An apostle of the late Duke Ellington, Burrell embraced many of the ideas of the great American composer as an accomplished producer and guitarist dazzling audiences around the world for over six decades. Throughout his life and career, his work with UCLA students and the LAJOU has led to a flourishing jazz culture in Southern California.

The special is part of a continuation of the SOUTHLAND SESSIONS series spotlighting prominent artistic voices and cultures around Southern California. SOUTHLAND SESSIONS debuted last summer to allow the Los Angeles community to experience their regional arts and cultural institutions, when attending in-person, cultural events was not an option. As regional artists adapted to an uncertain future due to the pandemic and the influence of social uprisings across the country, the new broadcast and digital initiative drew together prominent voices from around Southern California for up-close, virtual “sessions.” Through SOUTHLAND SESSIONS, viewers witnessed artists inspire audiences with a front-row seat to the creative process, guided by the community’s arts leaders.

Southland Sessions was originally supported in part by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation and other institutional funders who prefer to remain anonymous.

NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME TO INDUCT AMY GRANT, TOBY KEITH, RHETT AKINS, BUDDY CANNON AND JOHN SCOTT SHERRILL

The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (NaSHOF) has announced its Class of 2021: Amy Grant, Toby Keith, Rhett Akins, Buddy Cannon and John Scott Sherrill. The five will be inducted into the Hall this November, according to an announcement made today by Sarah Cates, chair of the organization’s board of directors, and Mark Ford, its executive director.

The five new inductees-elect will join the 213 previously inducted members of the elite organization when they are officially inducted during the “50/51” Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala on Monday, November 1, at the Music City Center. Because the organization’s 50th Anniversary celebration was postponed last year, this year’s event will honor two classes in a special double-sized event that will also spotlight NaSHOF’s previously named Class of 2020: Steve Earle, Bobbie Gentry, Kent Blazy, Brett James and Spooner Oldham.

“Today is one of my favorite days of the year, as we begin our journey to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala in November with the announcement of our upcoming class,” says Cates. “Nashville has always been the home of legendary songs written by the world’s finest songwriters – and this class is no exception. It’s our great honor today to welcome our class of 2021: Rhett Akins and Buddy Cannon in the songwriter category; John Scott Sherrill in the veteran songwriter category; Toby Keith as our songwriter/artist and Amy Grant as our veteran songwriter/artist.”

Rhett Akins’ songwriter credits include his own “That Ain’t My Truck,” as well as “Honey Bee” (Blake Shelton) and “It Goes Like This” (Thomas Rhett). Buddy Cannon’s resume is known for “Set ’Em Up Joe” (Vern Gosdin), “I’ve Come To Expect It From You” (George Strait) and “Give It Away” (George Strait). John Scott Sherrill’s hits include “Wild And Blue” (John Anderson), “The Church On Cumberland Road” (Shenandoah) and “How Long Gone” (Brooks & Dunn). Amy Grant popularized many of her own compositions, including “Baby Baby,” “That’s What Love Is For” and “Tennessee Christmas.” Toby Keith recorded many of his self-penned hits, including “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” “How Do You Like Me Now?!” and “As Good As I Once Was.”

The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala is one of the music industry’s premier events of the year. The evening features tributes and performances of the inductees’ songs by special guest artists. In recent years artists such as Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Jimmy Buffett, Ronnie Dunn, Emmylou Harris, Alan Jackson, Little Big Town, Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton, Marty Stuart, Taylor Swift, Josh Turner and Trisha Yearwood have performed at or participated in the event.

RÜFÜS DU SOL have been quiet. Quietly looking inwards, quietly crafting a new world to explore with their fans, quietly relearning what it means to be Alive…

Today the band continues its legacy as global leaders of the live-electronic movement, releasing the first new music since their Grammy nominated 2018 ‘SOLACE’ album. “Alive,” out now on Rose Avenue and Reprise / Warner Records, is a transcendent take from a group that have built a career on defying expectations – listen HERE.

Premiered today on The Zane Lowe Show, “Alive” is adorned with haunting lyricism and inventive broken beat percussion, encapsulating the highs and lows of a lost but not forgotten year. RÜFÜS’ lead singer Tyrone calls out with a sense of urgent and naked emotion, these are intensely personal lyrics for him, yet they encapsulate the feelings many of us have endured the past year.

“Alive” is the initial taste of what the band’s reemergence sounds like; a retention of the darkness they have consistently explored, notably on ‘SOLACE,’ paired with a glistening energy aimed to uplift and uphold their dedication to wowing larger than life dance floors.

Trey Anastasio Band released fall tour dates, including a two-night-stand at Radio City Music Hall.

Trey Anastasio Band (TAB) announces its long-awaited return to the road with an upcoming series of live dates. The tour begins September 17 at Thompson’s Point in Portland, ME and then travels through a two-night-stand at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on October 2 and 3. The upcoming run marks the first TAB tour for new bassist Dezron Douglas, who joins the band following the recent passing of original member Tony Markellis. Presales begin Wednesday, July 14 at noon ET. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, July 16.

Last year saw Trey Anastasio Band release a new live album, Burn It Down, a three-dimensional sonic time capsule that captures the explosive eight-piece band on their January 2020 tour. Produced and mixed by Vance Powell (Phish, Chris Stapleton, Jack White), the 15-song collection shows TAB at the peak of its powers, combining their trademark tight musicianship with unbounded performances. Burn It Down is available now at all digital outlets and vinyl will be available on August 20.

ABOUT TREY ANASTASIO

Over the past three decades, composer/guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio has forged a multi-faceted career, winning acclaim in rock, classical and theatrical circles. He is a founding member of Phish, one of today’s most successful and innovative rock bands. In the summer of 2017, Phish completed a residency at the world-renowned Madison Square Garden in New York – an unprecedented 13-night run known as The Baker’s Dozen. Phish’s total number of performances at the famed arena currently sits at 64.

Anastasio has received GRAMMY® nominations for his recordings with Phish and for his solo work. He has collaborated with such artists as Dave Matthews, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana, Toots and the Maytals, B.B. King and The Roots, and – as part of the trio Oysterhead – Les Claypool (Primus) and Stewart Copeland (The Police). He co-wrote the music for the Broadway musical Hands on a Hardbody, which received a Tony nomination for Best Original Score in 2013. In the summer of 2015, Anastasio joined the surviving four members of the Grateful Dead for five stadium shows, which celebrated the band’s 50th anniversary and served as their farewell shows.

Anastasio has performed his original compositions with numerous symphonies. The New York Times hailed his Carnegie Hall performance with the New York Philharmonic as “that rarest of rarities, a classical-rock hybrid that might please partisans from both constituencies.” In 2014, he debuted a new piece for guitar and orchestra, entitled Petrichor, on a West Coast orchestral tour that concluded with a performance at the Hollywood Bowl, marking his second performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In April 2019, Anastasio released his 14th solo album, Ghosts of the Forest, which Rolling Stone said was “built around psychedelic guitar liftoffs, ambitious arrangements, and extremely personal lyrics.” Between Me and My Mind, a film documenting Trey’s creative process debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival and played a sold-out limited-run engagement in theaters this past summer.

The Beau-Rivage Palace Hotel marks its 160th anniversary with a gender revolution.

When Lausanne’s iconic Beau-Rivage Palace Hotel opened its doors on the shores of Lake Geneva in 1861, it was financed by men, managed by men, promoted by men, and staffed almost entirely by men. Women were engaged to make beds and wash dishes.

What a difference 160 years make. In 2021, the Beau-Rivage Palace’s general manager, its resident celebrity chef, and its chief concierge are all women. And today, it is largely men who clean the hotel’s guest rooms, schlepp the luggage and park the cars.

MAKING HISTORY

The site of many milestone moments in history, it was the Beau-Rivage Palace’s Jacques Tschumi who, in 1893, opened the Lausanne Hotel School in order to train his hotel staff. Now, 128 years later, the École Hôtelière de Lausanne continues to be regarded as the best hospitality school in the world, and many of its students still undergo on-the-job training at the Beau-Rivage Palace. 2015 – The months’-long negotiations at the Beau-Rivage Palace conclude with the Iran Nuclear Treaty.

The celebratory year will feature an array of special events and offerings focusing on wellness and healthy living, including:

On August 27, the now traditional Anne-Sophie Pic Market will offer the opportunity to discover local delights produced by the chef’s partners. A special highlight will be the signing of Michael Berthoud’s book on wild harvesting – Anne-Sophie Pic wrote the preface in homage to their friendship. An “eat and be fit” section will also be presented in collaboration with Jérémy Peltier to respond to the growing demand for health preservation through food, a subject dear to Anne-Sophie Pic’s heart.

From September 1, the Absolute Infusion Menu will be featured at the Beau-Rivage Palace’s Anne-Sophie Pic restaurant. An exclusive alcohol-free food and drink pairing offers an unprecedented new culinary experience.

Finally, on November 24th, Anne-Sophie Pic and team will present “1861,” an extraordinary three-course gala menu reinterpreting the dishes served at the Beau-Rivage Palace’s very first dinner, 160 years ago.

Halsey Announces Film to Accompany her New Album

Today, Halsey shared the trailer for If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, an hour-long film experience set to the music of her upcoming album of the same name. Written by Halsey, it was directed by Colin Tilley, who previously worked with her on the official videos for her chart-topping singles Without Me and You Should Be Sad.

Select cities and theaters will be announced soon for the film experience. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, August 3, for IMAX showings.

Halsey’s fourth studio album will be released by Capitol Records on August 27. Fans can pre-order the album on Halsey’s store. If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power was produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, known for their work in Nine Inch Nails, and as Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy-winning film/television composers. Halsey penned all of the album’s songs.
