GODFORD — “CALIFORNIA, PT. I”

Today, France’s enigmatic tastemaker Godford returns to airwaves with a brand new composition, “California, Pt. I,” on Pack Records. You can listen to the new work HERE.

Taking his expressive ethos to new places, the producer transforms California from a dot on a map to a conceptual place of solace where he is able to process his thoughts. This concept is communicated throughout each layer of “California, Pt. I;” its dewy synth-work and soft vocals envelop listeners in warmth, while progressions in a minor key add a hint of nostalgia to the finished product.

“California for me is an abstract place in my head; more like a mental ‘El Dorado’ where I can manage my emotions, and where I feel safe with myself.” —Godford

Further elevating the single is well known magazine photographer and veteran Montblanc, Nike and Longchamp collaborator Felix Dol Maillot, who forged a bespoke music video that emulates the emotions expressed in “California, Pt. I.”

Godford’s core value of transcending ego in modern artistry stands strong. By remaining anonymous, he allows the listeners to create their own interpretations of his work based on emotions elicited within each production. Writing sessions split between the quaint French countryside and the bustling city life of Paris bolster his ability to draw upon a range of emotions, which are translated into song.

This methodology proved resonant on a global scale; Godford’s debut album, Non Binary Place (2020), earned widespread recognition among pop and electronic aficionados alike and lead to a steadfast fanbase around the project. Forbes, FADER, Complex and more offered their praise upon its release. He now prepares to bring his music to a live setting, with a hallowed slot at Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris this November.

Despite a fractured world and continued unrest, “California, Pt. I” offers its audience a chance to reconnect on the sonic plane—and once again harkens to a time where all could share the embrace of the rave.

Blythedale Children’s Hospital Adapts New Children’s Book

On Tuesday, July 20, 2021, Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, New York, commemorated the upcoming 31st anniversary of the “Americans with Disabilities Act” (July 26), with onsite activities with clinicians, patients, and special guests.

More than 50 patients from Blythedale’s Day Hospital, Mt. Pleasant Blythedale School and Inpatient program joined neurodiverse author Lindsey Rowe Parker (Richmond, VA) in the reading of her new children’s book Wiggles, Stomps, and Squeezes Calm My Jitters Down. The story follows a young girl with heightened sensory experiences through her day with fun, interactive sounds, and motions.

“Seeing everyone’s reaction to the book was awesome,”said Lindsey Rowe Parker, author of Wiggles, Stomps, and Squeezes Calm My Jitters Down. “I feel like when theysaw the character in the book struggling with some of thesensory differences it was relatable. When you seesomebody experiencing the world differently than you, give a little bit of empathy, ask questions, don’t judgeand try to embrace it.”

The Hospital’s Speech Pathology & Audiology Department, “Blythedale Bookworms” (coordinated through the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy program) and the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force teamed up to identify books with diverse protagonists and get them into the hands and homes of patients as part of a literacy outreach campaign for kids with varying abilities.

“Inspired by the Americans with Disabilities Act movement, we are also adapting some of the books at Blythedale to increase access for all kids who may have physical, cognitive or verbal differences that make a standard book inaccessible,” said Abigail Crane, Blythedale Speech-Language Pathologist. “We physically dissect the actual book which increases the child’s ability to have communicative impact while also making stories come alive in a new way.”

Some examples include page turners or cotton balls used tomake it easier for kids with physical limitations to manuallyturn the page, Velcro tabs attached to pages with removablelaminated core words, texture added for tactile feedback, and more. Watch the full video.

Blythedale’s onsite public school district, Mt. Pleasant Blythedale Union Free School District, also marked the anniversary of the ‘Americans with Disabilities Act’ with a capstone project completed by some of its high school students (who are also Day Hospital patients at Blythedale).

16-year-old Meghan Lyles of Wappingers Falls, New York (Dutchess County) researched and presented to her 12th grade class about the significance and impact of this landmark 1990 civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. Meghan was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and has undergone numerous surgeries for scoliosis related to her spine.

“This project is about how we can all help people with disabilities, like myself, to achieve their dreams and reach their full potential,” said Meghan.  “The ‘Americans with Disabilities Act’ is important to me because I know I wouldn’t want to be treated differently just because I have a disability, so why would anyone else?”

OVERVIEW

A first of its kind in format, “metaphysical” will feature ten physical pieces shown at DorDor Gallery in Bushwick, New York alongside ten accompanying digital pieces as NFTs from a selection of the fastest growing North American creators in the NFT space, including established and emerging crypto-artists; such as blacksneakers, Noah Kocher, Sophie Sturdevant and Soulo Saint.

The digital pieces will be available here and displayed in a virtual Bitski gallery available online here. Bitski wallets are now integrated into OnCyber, so collectors and artists can display NFTs directly from their Bitski wallet in digital environments from temples to spaceships.

METAPHYSICAL POWERED BY BITSKI

Bitski has powered NFTs across a full breadth of worlds from art to entertainment to sport. Bitski’s relationship to the art world contrasts from other NFT platforms which act as curatorial gatekeepers. Instead, Bitski empowers all creators and customers to sell through their own channels, with easy-to-use features including automated minting, embedded storefronts and no crypto literacy required, amongst others.

Bitski is excited to support this special artist community and empower them with tools for the metaverse; including a digital storefront to sell their digital works in addition to their physical works, providing a new rev stream – alongside creating integrations with third party homes for their NFTs to have “life” outside their wallets.

Bitski’s relationship to the art industry is not new. One of Bitski’s case studies is the FEWOCiOUS NFT launch, where Bitski provided a platform for the artist and his inaugural collection. This NFT launch sold out and generated approximately $30K in sales, an early example of the rise of bidding wars in the art space.

In addition, the investors include some of the biggest names and most credible NFT experts in the art world, including Metapurse, purchasers of Beeple’s $69M NFT sold at Christie’s.

Glen Smale – Porsche at Le Mans Book

PORSCHE AT LE MANS: 70 YEARS by Glen Smale

Porsche at Le MansPacked with photography, narrative, and race results, Porsche at Le Mans is the definitive illustrated history of Porsche’s 70 years of competition in the world’s greatest motor race.

Since 1951, Porsche has been represented at every single running of the 24 Hours, winning outright 19 times. The models that have taken part comprise a roll call of great sports racing cars: 550 Spyder, 718 RSK, 904, 906, 907, 908, 910, 917, 936, 935, 956, 962, and GT1—right up to the hybrid 919 that won from 2015 through 2017. To this daunting list can be added the ubiquitous 911, the privateer’s choice for the race (in 1971, a year that saw a record number of Porsches take part, 19 of the 33 Porsches in the race were 911s). And hundreds of them are depicted in historical photos.

In addition to the legendary cars, you will bear witness to the exploits of Porsche drivers, a veritable murderer’s row of motorsport greats, including Derek Bell, Herbert Muller, Helio Castroneves, Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx, Jo Siffert, Jochen Rindt, Mark Donohue, and Vic Elford, to name just a few.

Meticulously compiled by noted Porsche historian Glen Smale, Porsche at Le Mans is the most exhaustive celebration of the subject, created with full access to the Porsche archives in Stuttgart. The resulting time is a treasure trove of history, photographs, data, and technical information, indispensable to any serious Porsche or motorsport enthusiast.

L'FREAQ image provided by Leigh Greaney and Big Hassle for use by 360 MAGAZINE

L’FREAQ Shares Showgirl

Today, LA-based dark-synth pop artist, L’FREAQ, shares battle cry title track, “Showgirl,” from her sophomore EP, Showgirl, due out on September 23, 2021 via Position Music. Furthering the story from the debut single and music video for “Gimmick,” it’s clear that the upcoming EP is absolutely stacked with metaphor, all-star fashion, witchy vibes and an important message about the role media plays with children — especially young women. L’FREAQ is turning trauma into triumph, tapping into her heart and getting out of her head.
From puppet to powerhouse (just like in The “Gimmick” video), L’FREAQ breaks free of the monotony and shreds through the brainwashed stereotypes, as she literally shreds on a guitar. “Gimmick” showed L’FREAQ embodying themes of resiliency in a time of self-doubt, combining heart-pounding beats with passionate lyrics about believing in the power that everyone inherently owns and nobody else can take away. It also emphasizes L’FREAQ’s expansive “robust range (Refinery29),” which is also on full display in her recent live and unplugged version of “Gimmick.” This new track follows in those footsteps and takes it further into a deeper love of music, family and personal freedom.
On the title track, L’FREAQ says:
“My mother on I have been on an incredible journey together. She is my collaborator, photographer, and inspiration. I was about 8 years old when my parents divorced which sent me into a deep spiral of sadness, and shortly after that, she started dating a musician who was an all-around bad character. This made my relationship with music complicated and eventually forced me to rediscover why I love it. The experience of being beholden to him from around age 8-18 was incredibly difficult, but my bond with my mother actually strengthened through this and I wrote this as a battle cry for her “hold your hands up to the sky, feel the freedom as you cry POWER.” This song is a testimony to my relationship with my mother, a dedication to my delicate youth, and a reminder to anyone who needs it to stand in their deservingness and power.”
Having recently performed for Backline’s “Set Break” live stream alongside Alanis Morissette, Tom Morello, Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles and more to raise funds and awareness for mental health services to be distributed to music industry for free, L’FREAQ has been a champion for her community. This song is another chapter of that consistent commitment to rise up and bring people with her.
L’FREAQ, continues to remain an open book of emotions for fans as she lays out her own experience with rejection and struggles with mental health. L’FREAQ belts, “Got the courage to be vulnerable, got the guts to wear the crown, cause I dare to bare it all, I refuse to water down,” as a testament of truthfulness and self-confidence even when it’s hard. Intimacy on this level allows L’FREAQ to push the storyline forward when it comes to believing in dreams as a reality, especially in the face of adversity. NYLON says, “Look at L’FREAQ, draped in jewels and Cleopatra-esque eye makeup; then look a little harder. Behind the artifice, integrity abounds.”
L’FREAQ is all about being inclusive, and she is outspoken when it comes to defending the underdog. As an ally of everyone on the spectrum of gender and sexuality, bullies, racists and sexists are not allowed in L’FREAQ’s kingdom. She also shows her love for those closest to her, by highlighting their work: namely her fashion photographer mom, Kelly Cappelli (as seen in Vogue), who does all the photography and artwork for L’FREAQ.
The new release follows L’FREAQ’s debut EP, Weird Awakenings, which played with themes of self-discovery, as well as her 2021 single “Make Me Move.” Armed with a full book of poetry, L’FREAQ took pieces of her work and composed songs with Mike Irish, who also produced and mixed the EP at Shifted Recording Studios. The EP was mastered by Stuart Hawkes at Metropolis London Music. They took their time in discovering a sound that felt genuine, one that explored all the raw places she had been longing to find. Together, they created a modern amalgamation of L’FREAQ’s dark, thoughtful poetry and her raw musical instincts, which inevitably alchemized into songs that are all at once aggressive, sensual and moving.
Having shared a stage with ABBA, India.Arie and Jakob Dylan, it’s important to note her live performance prowess, even without tour dates on the books (speaking of longing). L’FREAQ played a packed NYC performance debut at SoHo House, and channeled Britney Spears (especially during her ferocious “Toxic” cover”), Nick Cave and Beats Antique vibes. The Deli Magazine later dubbed her “NYC’s Favorite Emerging Artist.” She’s also currently playing Amy Winehouse in Las Vegas show “27”, and has been featured on the news several times for her iconic portrayal of Winehouse, who inspired her to sing in the first place, leaving audiences moved to tears from the experience.
With over 500k streams, 240K plays on YouTube, and songs featured in “Riverdale,” Playboy, Netflix’s “Dating Around,” “Good Trouble,” “FBI,” “The Voice,” “City on a Hill” and more all born from her 5-song debut EP, it’s safe to say this follow-up EP is highly anticipated. Stay tuned for more visual components to follow, along with brand new singles. Showgirl is on the way.

StruXure – Pergola X

Outdoor Details Worth Splurging On This Summer With Scott Selzer, CEO of StruXure

Site, function, and budget are all important factors to consider when designing an outdoor space: What can my property accommodate? What kind of space do I want/need? How much money am I willing to spend? However, it’s also important to think about outdoor upgrades in terms of return on investment. How can I create a space that can be used year-round? Will the upgrades increase my property value? The answers to all these questions will help inform choices well beyond furniture selection, like whether to add fixed structures, water features, or built-in appliances.

Adding an adjustable louvered pergola by StruXure to one’s home is not only a great idea for providing shade to an outdoor space, but it can also help reduce interior heat gain by protecting exterior walls.

Summer is synonymous with spending more time outdoors, but without proper planning it can also mean sunburns, bee stings, and heat exhaustion. We hear it all the time, “I’d spend a lot more time in my backyard if I could get some relief from the blazing sun.” A pergola with pivoting louvers, that can be adjusted at the touch of a button, gives you the protection you need from sun, wind, and rain showers, not only in the summer months, but all year long.

Thanks to social distancing protocols, it has become the norm rather than the exception to eat outdoors, and not only at restaurants. Recreating the al fresco dining experience at home is becoming increasingly popular. A pergola with automated pivoting louvers helps protect diners, whether in a commercial or residential setting, from direct sunlight and other weather conditions.

If we learned anything during the pandemic, it’s that everyone can use technology. From a dramatic increase in video calls to prolific smart hub use, people are no longer afraid of technology. Many who thought “smart gadgets” weren’t for them are now capable users. The Pergola X by StruXure uses a Somfy motor to activate its louvers, which can be operated by remote control or through use of an app on a personal device.

As with interior design, a well-designed outdoor space needs to offer both comfort and function. Without both, it won’t get used. In addition, an outdoor space must be designed to withstand the elements. Even the most well-curated outdoor lounge or kitchen will remain underutilized unless it can be protected from rain, sun, and extreme temperatures. StruXure pergolas offer protection and durability. The motorized pivoting louvers, which can be shifted at the touch of a button to let the warm sunshine through or to optimize shade, can be fully closed on rainy days. StruXure products are made from durable, powder-coated extruded aluminum, which makes them scratch-resistant, non-corrosive, and nearly maintenance-free. Pergolas can also serve as anchors, helping to define unique spaces within a larger, multi-purpose backyard design.

Treat your outdoor space as new-found square footage and look for ways to maximize the value of that space. One way is by adding a high-quality pergola that will stand the test of time—one that can be matched to your home’s architecture and color scheme—and then turning that protected space into any “room” your family desires: outdoor living room, theater, kitchen, spa. The benefit of a sturdy, fixed structure with pivoting louvers is that it can be utilized in every season, whether you want shade, airflow, sunlight, or rain protection (our products can even withstand snow loads). And as outdoor living continues to rise in popularity, statistics show that homes with comfortable outdoor spaces are increasingly attractive to buyers.

Jenna Kyle image provided by Leigh Greaney and Big Hassle for use by 360 MAGAZINE

Jenna Kyle × Ojos

LA-based indie-pop artist, Jenna Kyle shares the title track, “Ojos,” from her debut EP today, along with a lyric video. This new bop is the second single from the Ojos EP, will arrive on September 3, 2021. The track represents a new era for the Los Angeles-based singer/ songwriter, producer and live electronic artist, who has actively been leaving her mark as one of the 2% of female music producers in the industry. Jenna Kyle supports women’s rights and LGBTQ equality and stands with The Ally Coalition.

On the new single, Kyle says, “Ojos is the first song I wrote and produced myself. It’s surprising how few women are producing music still, but the doors are definitely open and there’s a strong group of us out here doing it! I vacillate between feeling enraged that there are so few women in the profession, while simultaneously feeling proud to help hold the torch for the next generation of female producers coming up, all while battling the imposter syndrome many of us feel when saying “I am a producer, I produced this myself!”

One of the ways Kyle has explored her newfound producer prowess is to integrate a multicultural world aesthetic that is so uniquely her own. Jenna Kyle’s forthcoming EP is influenced by her travels over the past several years and her long time partnership and collaboration with Brazilian / Argentine drummer Bruno Esrubilsky (Mitski, Hedwig and The Angry Inch, The Band Joseph), which contributed to a globally-minded sound and an influx of Spanish and Portuguese lyrics.

She adds, “Over the past few years, pre-Covid, we toured through Southeast Asia, Europe, and visited South America every few months to be with family. I was immersed in the music and rhythms while meeting so many wonderful people. Language barriers can provide a new opportunity to communicate. You don’t need to understand every word I say to know what I mean. Exploring writing lyrics and poems in Spanish, which I’ve studied through college and since I was a kid, and Portuguese, which is a newer language for me, opened up a more creative process; there’s more room for experimentation within the new rhyme schemes. I don’t get as caught up on a word being cliche. Ojos and all my new music feels like an opening of sound and mind as a direct result of the freedom from self-imposed language constraints, and deepening my skills as a producer.”

The track caught the attention of DJ/producer Sinego, who created a dark, organic house mix of “Ojos,” called La Noche Mix which will be released July 28. This collaboration highlights Kyle’s love of production and connection and takes the track to new places.

The debut single from the EP, “Tell Me,” is also streaming everywhere now along with a new video. “Tell Me” is a capstone of Kyle’s experience of trying on different personas and processes and the video explores the way people present themselves to the world. Kyle co-produced the new single with BAILE(Anjunadeep) and Grant Zubritsky (Verite, Nick Murphy) mostly remotely in their respective Brooklyn studios.

The accompanying music video emerged as an exploration with director Jay Harwood, art director Gina Schiappacasse and choreographer Cesar Brodermann. Kyle strikes somewhat contorted poses in a rotating lineup of wearable art pieces, masks, and headpieces by Brooklyn staple artists including PJ Linden and Max Steiner, nodding to the Tik-Tok and Instagram obsession culture weߣre all trapped in, as she sings ironically “Tell me what to wear, tell me what to think, tell me what to feel inside.”

After a handful of singles, Kyle is carving out her pocket of indie-pop that’s rooted in self-expression with a context that she defines. Her music is a permission slip for others to find their inner voice and go deeply into the heart space that seeks no confirmation or praise, where the goal is to express and not impress. Stay tuned for Ojos, the debut EP, due out this September.

Data Privacy Core Principles

No one likes being watched, offline or on. And it is especially unnerving when a brand oversteps that boundary and pops up everywhere you go online.

Invisibly is on a mission to ensure companies have your direct consent for using your data and compensate you for the use of it. Invisibly believes in Seven Core Data Privacy Principles that can change the way companies acquire and use personal data. You can control who sees your data, where and when.

But what are these principles, and why should you care about them? These principles represent the spirit of data collection, are the basis of The Data Protection Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and shaped the European Union’s GDPR. The foundation of data privacy in the current digital world, Invisibly believes everyone should know the principles as we move towards a people-centered data economy.

  • Lawfulness, fairness, and transparency

People should always know what data is being collected, by whom, and why. Furthermore, your data should never be used against you- as in tracking your internet browsing secretly to sell you a product later.

  • Purpose limitation

Your data should only be used in the way it was intended. Your data shouldn’t be collected for research purposes, and then turned around for marketing.

  • Data minimization

Only relevant data should be collected. A company should not collect all possible data on you- your mother’s maiden name, first pet, and favourite teacher does not apply for a survey on what type of coffee you use.

  • Accuracy (holding)

Your data should be updated on a regular basis. Outdated data does no one any good- you or the company who wants it.

  • Storage limitation

Data should not be kept forever! Your data should only be kept for as long as necessary, and not reused.

  • Integrity and confidentiality (security)

Companies should always keep your data safe. This prevents bad actors from accessing it and keeps it safe from any cybersecurity breaches. You should never have to worry if your information is at risk.

  • Accountability

Companies must show that they are taking reasonable action to meet these principles.
