Lola Young – Pill or a Lullaby

Lola Young released “Pill or a Lullaby,” a song from her forthcoming EP, After Midnight. Accompanied only by piano, Young flashes back on moments from the night before, as the dawn finds her in need of a “pill or a lullaby.” She recorded the raw, emotional track in a single take, co-producing with frequent collaborator manuka. Listen HERE.

After Midnight, which will be released by Capitol Records, tells the story of one night in Young’s life, tracing the hours between midnight and 5 a.m. A short film will accompany the EP. A late-night rendezvous takes her from feeling confident and in control to gradually becoming more vulnerable and, eventually, entering a manic state of mind, where she leaves nothing on the table.

Describing the EP, Lola Young says, “My thoughts, my worries, my past lovers and my present ones too, my guilt, my fears, my dreams, wishes and all the crazy ass thoughts I have when the sun rises and I can’t sleep for shit. After midnight. The truest form of me.”

Last night, she played a sold-out show at Camden Assembly in London. Young will perform at numerous summer festivals and tour the U.K. with Dermot Kennedy in September. View itinerary HERE.

“Pill or a Lullaby” follows “Bad Tattoo,” which received its first spin on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. Praising the “soulful powerhouse,” The Honey Pop said, “Lola’s velvet vocals had us drawn in on this track, from the first lyric to the last, and then every single time we’ve played it since then. Brilliant songwriting.” View the official video for “Bad Tattoo” HERE.

DJ Snake × Malaa – Ring The Alarm

Multi-platinum producer DJ Snake unites with mysterious ski mask-clad French DJ and producer Malaa for the undeniably anthemic new single entitled “Ring The Alarm.” Right out of the gate, these two disruptors deliver a genre-breaking dance floor anthem primed for festival stages, stadiums and everywhere in between. Listen to “Ring The Alarm” by DJ Snake & Malaa HERE.

The song, which was teased earlier on both producers’ socials, arrives on the heels of the duo’s announcement that they will be embarking on a b2b mini North American tour starting on July 29th in Chicago, IL and ending in Oakland, CA in October. The upcoming 2021 run includes a stop at Southern California’s legendary electronic music festival Hard Summer in August. See full list of dates below, tickets will be available starting July 29th

About DJ Snake

DJ Snake made his full-length debut with Encore, a 2016 album that reached #1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and debuted in the top ten around the world. Since scoring his first #1 with the four-times-platinum “Let Me Love You” ft. Justin Bieber, DJ Snake has triumphed with such colossal hits as “You Know You Like It” (with AlunaGeorge), “Lean On” (with Major Lazer, featuring MØ), and “Taki Taki” ft. Selena Gomez, Ozuna & Cardi B. With its title translating to “the freedom to do whatever one chooses,” his sophomore album Carte Blanche arrived in July 2019 and shot to #1 on Billboard’s US Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, in addition to reaching the top 50 on the Billboard 200. Thanks to the tremendous success of “Let Me Love You,” “Lean On,” and “Taki Taki,” DJ Snake now holds the distinction of being one of only two dance artists in the world to have three songs amass more than a billion streams on Spotify.

About Malaa

DJ and producer Malaa has embraced his shrouded identity since he came onto the scene in 2015 and plays off of his anonymity in his balaclava-clad persona and regular releases of mixes on Soundcloud titled “WhoIsMalaa”. Malaa first began releasing music on Tchami’s Confession label with his debut Illicit EP in 2016 followed by his massive single “Notorious”- and has not slowed down since. Along with his steady flow of releases, Illegal Mixtapes, and NO REDEMPTION (Tchami x Malaa) project, Malaa is well known for remixes including “Oh Me Oh My (feat. Travis Scott, Migos, GASHI),” “Mind (feat. Kai)” for Major Lazer and Tchami’s “Afterlife (feat. Stacy Barthe)”. Malaa tours extensively along with the Pardon My French crew consisting of DJ Snake, Tchami and Mercer and has played global festivals including Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields and more.

Nothing But Thieves – Moral Panic II

NOTHING BUT THIEVES SHARE MORAL PANIC II OUT NOW

ANNOUNCE 3 INTIMATE LIVE AT LAST UK WARM-UP TOUR DATES

AUTUMN 2021 UK, IRELAND AND EUROPEAN TOUR ON SALE NOW

Political turmoil, climate change, and the toxicity of the internet all pour into Nothing But Thieves record Moral Panic. –  TLOBF

The band achieve another phenomenal album – Clash

This is the sound of a band who understand their audience but also delight in taking risks – Gigwise

A living, breathing, and characteristically anthemic, beast of an album – Music OMH

LISTEN TO MORAL PANIC II

Southend five-piece Nothing But Thieves have shared their new 5-track EP Moral Panic II via Sony Music UK/RCA Records, which is the follow-up to their #3 acclaimed third album Moral Panic released last year, and features recent singles Miracle, Baby and Futureproof. They have also announced that they will be performing songs from Moral Panic II and Moral Panic at three intimate UK warm-up shows next month.

Moral Panic II follows the band’s acclaimed third album Moral Panic and was written following the completion of the latter, despite a connection between the two both thematically and lyrically. The EP features 5 brand new tracks, including recent singles Futureproof and Miracle, Baby, and is a reflective body of work tinged with emotion, anger and hope, which openly and passionately discusses many issues we face in modern society today. The track listing is as follows:

Moral Panic II

  1. Futureproof
  2. If I Were You
  3. Miracle, Baby
  4. Ce n’est Rien
  5. Your Blood

The band say, Moral Panic II was something we decided to do only after Part I was all mixed, mastered and the records pressed.  It didn’t feel like we were done with the Moral Panic theme – I think partly because we hadn’t been able to tour the project yet, it didn’t feel right to move on. But we also had the luxury of time to assess the album and explore some avenues we felt the album may have missed.

In that way, it was important that Moral Panic II comprised of completely fresh, newly written songs rather than songs that just didn’t wind up making the album, like how a traditional deluxe version would function. There’s a familiarity, but we also really honed in on a new side of the band. Part II really rounds Part I out – the two parts should be enjoyed as one project.

Released last year, their third album Moral Panic achieved over 102 million streams and saw support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, Virgin Radio and Radio X alongside winning Best Indie Act at Global Radio’s 2021 Awards. Moral Panic followed their 2018 EP What Did You Think When You Made Me This Way, their 2017 acclaimed album Broken Machine, which charted at #2 in the UK album chart, and their debut self-titled album Nothing But Thieves.

The past few years have been quite a ride for Nothing But Thieves. Amassing over 1 million worldwide album sales and over 907 million worldwide streams, they have built up a loyal and wide following for their impactful alt rock sound, cementing themselves as one of the best current rock bands in the world. Selling 150,000 tickets on their last album campaign, which included a sold-out show at London’s Alexandra Palace and selling out their entire worldwide Broken Machine headline tour, their success has been global.

The band have performed on US TV shows, such as James Corden and Jimmy Kimmel, after their debut became the bestselling debut from a UK rock band in the US in 2015 and played packed out international shows from Poland to Amsterdam, where they headlined an arena to 6,000 fans. After intimately debuting new songs early last year for a BRITs/War Child gig, they were set to tour internationally last Spring, including a show to 6,500 people at Moscow Adrenaline Stadium.

Following 3 livestream performances Live from the Warehouse last year to launch Moral Panic, they are finally bringing songs from the album to live audiences this Autumn with a UK, Ireland and European tour, including their biggest ever headline London show at O2 Arena. The have also just announced they will be performing a series of intimate live shows ahead of their tour with 3 warm-up shows in Oxford, Norwich and Liverpool next month. With a well-earned reputation for their energetic, impassioned and infinite live shows, it’s a tour not to be missed.

Nothing But Thieves are Conor Mason (vocals, guitars), Joe Langridge-Brown (guitars), Dominic Craik (guitars, keyboard), Philip Blake (bass guitar) and James Price (drums).

A GREAT BIG WORLD – GLOWING

A GREAT BIG WORLD ANNOUNCE AUGUST 27 RELEASE DATE FOR THIRD FULL-LENGTH ALBUM PARTICLES AND UNVEIL NEW SINGLE GLOWING

PERFORMING TRACK ON LIVE WITH KELLY AND RYAN JULY 29

Today, GRAMMY award-winning multiplatinum duo A Great Big World have officially announced the August 27 release date of their third full-length album Particles and unveiled their new single “Glowing.” Album pre-orders begin July 29 with additional instant tracks made available in the weeks leading up to its release.

“Glowing,” which signals finding light in the darkest places, starts with tender piano keys before wrapping in a big orchestral moment with cinematic strings. When speaking about the track, A Great Big World vocalist and pianist Ian Axel revealed, “It started off as a lullaby I used to sing to my son when he was a newborn. I just wanted him to feel safe and loved. In a way, I was also singing it to myself. When writing it I always imagined a love shield of sorts surrounding us, getting brighter and brighter while deflecting the scary things around us. We wanted to capture that in the recording. The track starts off really simple, and ends with lush, sweeping orchestrations.”

The duo will perform the song for the very first time on nationally syndicated morning talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan July 29.

A Great Big World’s album title Particles came from wanting to explore the idea of the infinite the mirror image of the infinitely small with the infinitely large (Particles vs. A Great Big World). This process led to a collaboration with contemporary artist Kysa Johnson who created the artwork for the album, “Glowing” and their previous single “Boys In The Street.”

Axel shared, “We believe that the entire universe and all of its mysteries exist in every particle, and each of us is made up of tiny particles containing the whole. Kysas art is exactly that. By painting tiny subatomic particle decay patterns, she is able to illustrate enormous cosmic images. The instant we discovered her work, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. Its been such an inspiring collaborative process, with countless Zoom calls, looking through Hubble space images, discussing ghosts and UFOs, and pondering our existence in the universe.

A Great Big World vocalist Chad King continued, “The songs on this album were written from an incredibly honest and vulnerable place. It was a cathartic and therapeutic process for us. Our hope is that by being vulnerable, others can connect with us, and we can all feel a little less alone in the universe.”

“Glowing” follows the release of “Boys In The Street,” a breathtaking rendition of Greg Holden’s song by the same title, and “Fall On Me“ with Christina Aguilera, both of which will be featured on Particles. The latter has generated more than 30 million streams worldwide and reunited A Great Big World with Aguilera following their 7x platinum GRAMMY award-winning hit “Say Something.” Aguilera invited Axel on stage at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Phil this past weekend (July 16 and 17) for an astounding surprise performance of “Say Something,” which Billboard described as “cinematic,” and Broadway World said “quietly stunned.”

Stay tuned for more news from A Great Big World soon.

About A Great Big World

A Great Big World find wonder and meaning in significant and small moments alike. The story of the GRAMMY award-winning multiplatinum New York duo Ian Axel and Chad King began in humble fashion. Ian and Chad first met during college in 2005. After years of writing songs, they resonated with listeners worldwide via the 2013 single “Say Something” with Christina Aguilera. It went 7 times platinum and notably received a 2015 GRAMMY award in the category of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.” In its wake, their first full-length, Is There Anybody Out There?, bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, garnered a gold certification, and generated north of a billion streams. Between sold out gigs on multiple continents, they captivated audiences on dozens of television shows and released the fan favorite sophomore effort When The Morning Comes. Along the way, they also lent their songwriting to a myriad of artists, ranging from Ingrid Michaelson to Andrea Bocelli and Ellie Goulding. In 2019, A Great Big World set the stage for the next chapter with “Fall On Me” with Christina Aguilera. It gathered 30 million streams as they reunited with her for a powerful performance at the American Music Awards. Now, A Great Big World connect on the grandest scale yet through their third full-length album, Particles, coming August 27 via Ingrooves and led by singles “Boys In The Street” and “Glowing.”

Delilah Montagu – Baby EP

DELILAH MONTAGU RELEASES BABY EP

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR COMING FOR YA HERE

COLLABORATES WITH FRED AGAIN.. BENJY GIBSON AND TOWA BIRD

Woozy and glowing, but the London pop star packs seemingly endless, subtly insistent hooks into this surrender from a relationship’s dying days – The Guardian

The hotly tipped singer combines vocal nuance and restraint, nagging hooks, languorous slow-disco grooves and candid lyrics, with beautiful results – The Sunday Times Culture

Keep your eye on this one – L’Officiel

London based singer/songwriter Delilah Montagu today releases the 9-track ‘Baby’ EP. ‘Baby’ marks the 23 year-old’s third EP and signals a sonic departure from last summer’s brooding and melancholic This Is Not A Love Song EP.

LISTEN TO THE BABY EP HERE

Produced by Benjy Gibson, who co-wrote every song with Delilah, the EP steers away from the autobiographical nature of her previous releases, instead creating characters in a hedonistic, passion-fuelled fantasy world that the pair lived vicariously through as the world was at a standstill. The EP features additional production work by Benjy Gibson’s brother, BRIT Award winning producer Fred again.. on opening track BABY, as well as guitar lines from Billie-Eilish approved TikTok sensation Towa Bird on Coming For Ya

Current single Coming For Ya sees Delilah embrace a new sense of self and freedom as she becomes the narrator on this project born out of lockdown isolation. Delilah discovers a new acceptance in her own sexuality, whilst in the official video she explores real life couples of all sexualities and backgrounds; I’ve had girlfriends and boyfriends, but I don’t identify strongly with being gay, straight or bisexual, says Delilah. I now know that this fluidity can be freeing. It doesn’t mean I’m confused and I don’t need a label.

Above all, Delilah’s new EP Baby is about freedom, feeling and taking back control of your happiness. There’s been a huge shift for me in my ability to express myself, says Delilah. I used to be so afraid of being a woman, ashamed of feeling sexual, scared of falling in love, but I’m embracing it all with this EP.

Baby EP Tracklisting

  1. BABY
  2.  I’m All Yours
  3. Runaway Car
  4. Lost Keys
  5. Coming For Ya
  6. die 4 u
  7. I wanna FEEL
  8. bye bye
  9. Stay Here

About Delilah Montagu

Debut EP In Gold introduced Delilah in 2019 with its pensive soulful rumination on coming-of-age. This energy soon flourished further with the release of this year’s This Is Not A Love Song EP and it’s streaming hit Loud, produced with Robin Hannibal (Drake, Rhye, Anderson. Paak). Reeling from her performance of Drive (a collaboration with Black Coffee and the #1 most streamed domestic single on Spotify ever in South Africa) at the online Global Citizen concert, curated by Lady Gaga – Delilah then released singles Version Of Me, Loud and Us, all garnering critical acclaim from the likes of The Sunday Times Culture, i-D, The Independent, Wonderland, Numero, The Guardian and L’Officiel to name a few.

Influenced by the likes of Leonard Cohen, Phoebe Bridgers, Carole King, Arlo Parks, Lizzo, Bon Iver and St. Vincent, Delilah is taking a total departure from the melancholy, to “just fucking express yourself” on her latest project. Written and produced with Benjy Gibson, and featuring collaborations with Fred again… and guitarist Towa Bird, the ‘Baby’ EP will be the soundtrack to your post-lockdown freedom, as Delilah matures dramatically both as a songwriter and as a person.

WELCOME TO THE METAVERSE

LA ART SHOW ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH SUPERRARE AS THE OFFICIAL NFT MARKETPLACE OF THE SHOW

From Analog to Digital For 26 Years LA Art Show Has Embraced Art Trends And Conversations

In just a few short weeks, LA Art Show, the most comprehensive international contemporary art show in America, officially kicks-off the city’s 2021 art season at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This special Summer Edition–on the heels of the landmark 25-year anniversary and now with new director Kassandra Voyagis – takes a closer look at some of the latest technological trends in the art world, while still offering a conventional lens for art from around the globe. Taking a leap into the future, while remaining cognizant of the traditional contemporary and historical programming, the LA Art Show has incorporated a focus on women, art, and technology. Upholding a longstanding convention of paving the way for other fairs to follow suit, this year marks the LA Art Show as the first LIVE show to join one of the most buzzed-about conversations in art: NFTs. As a show with a strong traditional reputation, the integration of NFTs and other new technology is monumental, emphasizing the legitimacy and wonder of digital art. To supply the most comprehensive and accessible NFT introduction, the show has partnered with SuperRare as official marketplace partner, meaning patrons will be able to purchase the work immediately at the fair with the help of experts, removing anxiety surrounding the new kind of transaction.

To present the most striking and comprehensive NFT debut, the LA Art Show welcomes Vellum LA, the first physical gallery for NFT-backed digital art in Los Angeles, ahead of their launch in September. Vellum LA was created with the goal of meaningfully situating the digital and crypto art communities within the context of art history, while also educating the public on the potential of NFTs to impact the future of art. Aiming to bridge the gap between the physical and the digital world, the crypto and the traditional art collectors, Vellum LA presents carefully curated shows designed to be relevant to patrons on either end of the digital-analog spectrum, and anywhere in between.

This year’s LA Art Show is the ideal platform for Vellum LA programming, prioritizing NFTs whether it be an introduction for many of the patrons of the fair or an exciting addition for those who are already fans of the genre. Crafting the optimal first impression, Vellum LA presents Sea Change, a physical NFT exhibition in partnership with SuperRare, the show’s official marketplace partner. Sea Change will feature the works of 11 new media artists, whose work embraces our inevitable technological immersion, exploring the new language, materiality, and logic of the metaverse. The exhibition will include works by Claudia Hart, Auriea Harvey, Krista Kim, Marjan Moghaddam, Itzel Yard (Ix Shells), Blake Kathryn, Nicole Ruggiero, Sam Clover (PLANTTDADDII), Sabrina Ratté and more. Curated by Nxt Museum curator Jesse Damiani and Vellum LA curator Sinziana Velicescu, Sea Change is a model of collaboration in the art world. Bringing together not just artists, curators, but tech companies as well, this exhibition is a worthy preview of what NFTs have to offer. The show caters to the collector, both the already avid NFT fans and those who might not even know what NFT stands for yet. Thanks to the partnership with SuperRare, a pioneering online peer-to-peer marketplace for premium single edition NFTs built on the Ethereum blockchain, purchasing NFTs at the fair is highly accessible for anyone, whether they be tech savvy or previously luddite (just make sure to secure some ETH for purchases ahead of the event). Although NFTs have been around for a while now, the technology patrons will see is brand new, featuring state-of-the-art StandardVision LumaCanvas displays developed specifically for Sea Change and designed to be the first ever collector/museum-grade digital art display canvases.

The return of in-person programming has generated quite a few questions about the future of the art world, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that many artists want to have their work seen in person, and that is true of digital art as well. Velicescu is thrilled to bring this new kind of viewing experience to this special LIVE summer edition of the LA Art Show, noting that the return of live programming is important for NFTs and digital programming just as it is important for analog art.

Having curated work for large scale media facades at StandardVision, I understand the importance of the in-person experience. I think with everything re-opening, people will crave these experiences more than ever and I think there’s an opportunity to show this work in ways that hasn’t been shown before, taking into consideration all the complexities of digital art–some of the work is time based, some has the capability of being fully immersive, some involves AR.

The technology revolution does not stop there. White Cross Gallery is bringing their expertise from over 5 years of NFT experience along with 5 new releases, and NFT giveaways. Continuing the theme of technological advancements, one of the most highly anticipated traditional elements of the show is getting an upgrade as well, with the return of DIVERSEartLA. This important part of the fair, curated by Marisa Caichiolo, will focus on the presence, contributions, research, and documentation of women and non-binary artists at the forefront of work at the intersection of art, science, and technology, represented by guest museums and institutions. Continuing the theme of juxtaposing old and new, this fan-favorite section will expand upon previous years into new, more interactive, and technological ground. This year’s tech-focused exhibits include a wide range of mediums from AI to video and plenty in between. The San Marcos Museum of Art (MASM) from Lima, Perú, which will bring a new media project by Peruvian artist Angie Bonino. “THE SYMPHONY OF NOW,” consists of a video installation, and interactive sound installation focusing on the Andean techno de-colonial shamanism. Museum La Neomudejar from Madrid is bringing _DATA | ergo sum | RELOADED by artist Ana Marcos, an interactive art installation that visualizes the capability of viewing machines using artificial intelligence to extract data by a simple observation of visitors. Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) has joined with a special project curated by Fabian Goncálves, that will feature a compilation of material and an exhibition of the work of women artists who have played a central role in the development of new media practices throughout history and women and non-binary people whose forward-thinking practices are currently reshaping the field. The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center is bringing a special project curated by Chon Noriega titled Immersive Distancing by LA-based artists Carmen Argote and Zeynep Abes, which will examine recent media art produced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Continuing the Los Angeles presence, Now Art LA and Building Bridges Art Exchange have joined forces as local non-profit organizations to exhibit the work Agua by Luciana Abait, a video projection created as part of LUMINEX Project by Now Art LA. This work is inspired by the flood-myth motif that occurs in many cultures, in which water acts a healing and rebirth tool, often referencing ideas of creation, purification, and sustaining life.

This year’s diversification of mediums continues with Tiffany Trenda, a multidisciplinary performance artist, known for exploring the relationship of the female body to today’s ever-changing technologies. In partnership with DIVERSEartLA, Trenda is safely bringing live performance to the art fair. Through the use of QR codes, she is coordinating a unique viewing experience for attendees. Each person can use their own smartphone to participate in real-time via volumetric video recording, creating an interactive and compelling experience.

The LA Art Show is excited to broach new artistic waters, welcoming back old friends and joining new ones for the first time. With the draw of a long-awaited in-person event, in conjunction with the groundbreaking new technology, tickets for this event are likely to sell quickly. Please visit the official website to learn more, tickets can be purchased here.

Mercury Music Prize and GRAMMY® Award winning UK singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer James Blake has announced his fifth studio album, Friends That Break Your Heart, due out 10th September 2021, via Polydor Records.

Blake joined Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 for Hottest Record in the World to premiere the album’s first single, Say What You Will alongside co-hosting the show. The accompanying music video for the single is directed by Bear Damen and features a guest appearance from Finneas.

Of the single, James says, The song is about finding peace with who you are and where you’re at regardless of how well other people seem to be doing. Comparison really is the thief of joy.

Friends That Break Your Heart follows the Covers EP – a collection of Blake’s favourite covers, including his critically acclaimed cover of Frank Ocean’s Godspeed – and his 2019 released, GRAMMY® nominated album Assume Form which was his highest charting album in both the UK and US to date.

More recently James has worked with Dave on the rapper’s second studio album We’re All Alone In This Together and featured on Slowthai’s chart topping album TYRON.

James Blake’s first new full-length album in two years, Friends That Break Your Heart, will feature collaborations from JID & SwaVay, Monica Martin and SZA. James worked closely with British artist Miles Johnston to design a cover reflective of the album. The result is a visual encapsulation of the emotions brought forth throughout the body of work.

ABOUT JAMES BLAKE

The Mercury Music Prize & GRAMMY® Award-winning UK singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer unassumingly operates as the enigmatic engine behind some of the most influential albums of the 21st century. He produced choice cuts on Frank Ocean’s Blonde and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. as well as JAY-Z’s 4:44 and Beyoncé’s Lemonade—to which he also lent his voice in both cases. Feature appearances span Stop Trying to Be God with Stevie Wonder and Kid Cudi on Travis Scott’s epic ASTROWORLD and King’s Dead with Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and Future from the chart-dominating Black Panther: The Album. The latter not only went triple-platinum, but it also earned Blake his first GRAMMY® Award in the category of Best Rap Performance. Simultaneously, he emerged as pop’s most celebrated outlier with his dynamic solo output. He introduced a singular sound on 2011’s James Blake. Awarding the record a rare 9.0-out-of-10 score, Pitchfork crowned it one of Top 100 Albums of the Decade So Far (2010-2014). On its heels, the 2013 Overgrown illustrated his rare magnetic ability to align the likes of Brian Eno and RZA on the same project. It notably received the 2013 Mercury Prize and secured Blake’s Best New Artist nomination at the GRAMMY® Awards. After 2016’s The Colour In Anything, he reached new critical and commercial peaks with Assume Form during 2019. It bowed at #6 on the UK Album Chart, marking his highest entry to date. Beyond clocking 300 million cumulative streams in under a year, it garnered the GRAMMY® nomination for Best Alternative Album and graced Best of 2019 lists for outlets including Time Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, Billboard, DJ Booth, and Esquire. Additionally, he oversees 1-800 Dinosaur, which spans a club night, record label, and radio show. As he prepares his fifth album, James Blake’s shadow over popular music only continues to grow.

Michael Vincent Waller × Valee × Lex Luger – 4Fit

COMPOSER MICHAEL VINCENT WALLER RELEASES NEW SINGLE: 4FIT FEATURING VALEE, CO-PRODUCED BY LEX LUGER

LISTEN HERE

A sui generis collaboration [MVW and Lex Luger] have unlocked a bridge between their two worlds – NYS Music

one of the more unique cuts…heard in awhile – Elevator

a unique blend of styles – HotNewHipHop

Contemporary composer Michael Vincent Waller (MVW) teams up with trap producer extraordinaire Lex Luger and Chicago’s Valee on 4Fit, a new song that blends minimalist classical compositions and ominous strings with the hypnotic hard-hitting textures of trap to create a fresh new sound. Chicago rapper Valee lends his signature laid-back vocals with luxurious raps about foreign cars and expensive fashion. 4Fit is the third single from upcoming Classic$ releasing this Fall.

MVW explains, My core intention on Classic$ is to get classical music into hip-hop without dissolving either. It’s about allowing the production and samples to breathe organically.

4Fit follows Classic$ second single Still Do described as one of the more unique cuts heard in awhile by Elevator while HotNewHipHop confirmed that it is a unique blend of styles. Still Do gained airplay on SiriusXM’s Shade 45 program The Drive and 4Fit was selected for the Play dat Back section of the show. Lead single from the project Survey Says is an energetic track that celebrates the pride and joy of unity and self-love featuring vocals from Shanique Marie of Jamaican collective Equiknoxx. MVW was recruited by Shanique to produce, arrange and layer strings on her song Ballad from her latest album Gigi’s House. Wire Magazine said the stand-out track had hard beats with beautifully creamy arrangements and is a sublime highlight from the project.

Classic$ is the first hip-hop release from Michael Vincent Waller after three classical albums distributed by classical labels Unseen Worlds, Recital and XI Records. His 2019 album Moments was revered as absolutely sparkling (Exclaim!). Meanwhile Pitchfork raves that every note and gesture on ‘Moments’ seems to be deeply felt and philosophically weighed before a hand touches a piano key or lifts a mallet.

Michael’s music has filled venues including Carnegie Hall, ISSUE Project Room, Roulette, Palais de Tokyo Museum, and SXSW brought to life by soloists and ensembles a la R. Andrew Lee, Stephanie Ginsburg, Dante Boon, the S.E.M. Ensemble, and Ensemble Dedalus. He collaborates with musicians and producers across multiple genres including critically-acclaimed electronic musician Jlin. In 2020 he was named New Artist Of The Month by Musical America Worldwide.

About MVW

Michael Vincent Waller uncovers the nexus of classical music and hip-hop on Classic$ [AWAL], his 2021 debut EP as MVW. Like a string quartet beaming chamber music out of the trap, the project integrates elite beat-craft, bulletproof bars, and classical composition into an inimitable and irresistible hybrid.

We’re not simply trying to add orchestral heavy strings, explains MVW. Instead, we’re relying on dark and episodic chamberal moments, which fit naturally. I hope people are like, ‘I didn’t know classical music could be so funky. I can’t believe trap is so sensuous and beautiful.’

A composer from New York City, his classical music has been described as lyrical and introspective, drawing inspiration from impressionism, post-minimalism and world music. In 2015, he unveiled his debut album The South Shore on XI Records, the label founded by composer Phill Niblock. 2017’s Trajectories gained traction on streaming services as Lines eclipsed 348K Spotify streams. Two years later, Moments garnered widespread tastemaker praise from the likes of WIRE Magazine and Pitchfork. The albums have generated nearly 1 million total streams across his solo catalog.

On Classic$, he recruited multi-platinum producer Lex Luger [Waka Flocka Flame, Kanye West, Rick Ross]. Luger was drawn to Michael’s classical music and the two unlocked immediate creative chemistry. They’ve produced multiple songs for the project and have built a foundation for unparalleled innovation. I want to take the same attention to detail associated with classical and chamber music and apply it to one of the most viable, listenable, and casual genres, i.e. trap, explains MVW. It’s got freshness and energy, but there are a whole bunch of nuances and details you don’t typically hear in modern rap. I’m trying to take the best of both worlds.
