HYPEACH

Miami Swim Week wrapped up this weekend and one of California’s hottest new women’s fashion brands, Hypeach, made their debut appearance at the event.

As a young company that launched in early 2020, Hypeach has managed to quickly become a Southern California breakthrough brand, with the company being covered in Forbes, Access Daily, Telemundo and numerous other media outlets in its first year alone.

At Miami Swim Week, Hypeach showcased its recently released California Fresh Summer Collection, which included sexy yet tasteful eye-catching swimwear designs from their Los Angeles-made line, Hypeach Swim™. And, in addition to being a playful and feminine fashion line, one of the Hypeach core values is fashion that gives back. The company practices this by donating a portion of its sales to Global Girl Media, a non-profit organization that works to equip girls from underserved communities with training skills in journalism and media.

The Southern California brand was founded by Marlo and Brian Hovis. The husband & wife team are no strangers to the retailing world. Brian was VP of Marketing at Nordstrom & Head of Global Digital Marketing at Citibank before starting a line with his wife at the creative helm. Marlo is the Chief Brand Officer and Creative Director at Hypeach overseeing all brand strategy, product, creative and strategic partnerships. Last week, we got the chance to ask Marlo and Brian about their brand and partnerships.

What is Hypeach founded on?

Hypeach is a breakthrough California-based fashion brand that is inspired by the coastal lifestyle of Southern California. Hypeach offers affordable, stylish clothes that are distinctly Californian in aesthetic, hence its “California Fresh” style. Launched in 2020 to evolve the fast fashion ecommerce market space, Hypeach offers consistently high-quality apparel, unbelievable prices, and an exceptional customer experience.

Fashion That Gives Back is our mission. We donate a portion of every purchase to our charity partner, Global Girl Media, which equips young women from underrepresented backgrounds with journalism training and equipment to help reshape the media. We believe together we can accomplish so much more.

What was the experience like of being a standout successful fashion brand and landing a coveted spot at Planet Fashion TV’s Miami Swim Week showcase?

Miami Swim Week is like no other fashion event. Smoldering temperatures, sexy beautiful people, and styles, plus a distinct electricity in the air. We were honored to be able to debut our swim collection there. Putting together a fashion show at swim week truly was a dream and we were proud to be able to showcase our Made in Los Angeles Hypeach Swim line and represent California.

We brought our fun and flashy collection of swim and summer ready styles and everything about our show was simply happy & hopeful. Joy Corrigan, a Victoria’s Secret model and fashion icon, opened and closed our show and her younger sister Gina walked for the first time with us!

What is the partnership with Global Girl Media? How does Hypeach work to uplift the voices of underrepresented girls in media and journalism?

Before we established Hypeach we knew we wanted to use fashion as a force for good. The business presented an opportunity to support causes in a larger way through collective giving with every purchase.

Global Girl Media (GGM) is such a powerful, female-run organization global in reach but HQ in Los Angeles. They equip young girls from marginalized communities with journalism training equipment & training to tell their own stories and contribute to the media landscape. They empower young women with media literacies to become positive agents of change.

Not only do we donate a portion of every purchase, but we periodically host participants at our HQ to create content, dress up, and have a unique experience in front of the camera. We’re currently exploring the possibility of refugee makeovers and how our partnership can deepen its connections. Marlo also sits on the executive board, and we are exploring how we can also work with fashion influencers and strategic partners to help support the mission and participants in creative ways.

Wallie the Sensei – Golden Child

COMPTON’S WALLIE THE SENSEI IS POETIC & RIVETING ON GOLDEN CHILD + BOMPTON 2 BALABASAS ACOUSTIC STREET PERFORMANCE

Listen/Download Golden Child HERE

Watch Bompton 2 Balabasas Acoustic Street Visual HERE

Vulnerable, raw and untamed perfectly describe Compton native Wallie The Sensei, who’s latest musical effort Golden Child is out today. The 17-track mixtape which includes his breakout single Scandalous is heavily influenced by Wallie’s California roots and sonically redefines the legendary west coast sound. Listen HERE.

From start to finish, Wallie takes his listeners on a journey through his hometown of Compton where he speaks on his struggle to survive the cutthroat streets while always in pursuit of money, success and all the sweet things life has to offer. Make no mistake, Golden Child isn’t a story of tragedy, but a story of triumph, hustle and ultimately defeating a system designed for Wallie to fail.

Golden Child comes on the heels of Wallie’s 03 Flow single which currently has over half a million views and over 1.5 million US streams. A true labor of love, 03 Flow pays homage to Watts native and fellow recording artist 03 Greedo who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence. 03 Flow has quickly become a fan favorite, taking on a life on its own with radio support, consistent increase in streams and critical praises from music peers like PnB Rock, industry heavyweights, radio DJs & more. On the record Wallie passionately sings niggas playing like they demons, they don’t really mean it, choppa spray like we cleanin, bodies dropping on that cement, Wallie’s passion is intently felt on the song and has become the heart of the Golden Child project.

Golden Child also includes Wallie’s team-up with Detroit powerhouse 42 Dugg on the enthralling remix of Wallie’s own hit single Scandalous. The two trade bars with ease and confidence, as Wallie offers up some of his most lucid lines, recounting the struggles of success and the haters who would come for his head. Additional stand out tracks include Lamb, the lush throwback finds Wallie effortlessly singing over a buttery beat, showcasing his one-of-a-kind flow and knack for incisive lyrics about his come-up. B*tch, nobody had it in my fam, I put my foot down, he sings. Put my other foot down like I could drive this car, let the motherf***kin hood down. In Lamb, Wallie walks recollects his life’s trajectory beginning with his time on the streets, his narratives are poetic and detailed, rivaling rap’s most vivid writers.

Since the release of Wallie the Sensei’s No Love EP at the beginning of 2020, he’s quickly become a West Coast artist to watch. Respect magazine praised the Scandalous video for showcasing Compton’s camaraderie, hustle, and rawness, while Rosecrans Ave highlighted Wallie’s storytelling abilities, saying he is providing guidance to those who come after with his pain-stricken tales. After the hit of the Scandalous remix, Wallie the Sensei’s proved that his skyrocketing success is no fluke. Golden Child is poised to reach even more open-minded listeners. It’s full of anthems for hustling Cali natives and anyone who craves a little bit of glow-up magic.

JEREMY ZUCKER – HONEST

Platinum-Certified singer, songwriter, and producer Jeremy Zucker drops his new single “HONEST.” The song is the second single from his highly anticipated sophomore album, out later this year.

As acoustic guitar strums alongside singsongy percussion, Jeremy laments a relationship on the brink. His voice rings out on the observation, “I was so sentimental, and you came for my head, we were both on the brink, I was holding my breath,” before finally pleading, “Just be honest with me babe. The song’s organic instrumentation matches Jeremy’s open-hearted delivery and illuminates yet another side of his songwriting and artistry, as he continues to evolve with no shortage of emotion or intuition.

Jeremy says, “‘HONEST’ is one of my favorite songs i’ve ever written thus far, and i’m so excited to finally share it with everyone. ABOUT JEREMY ZUCKER

Jeremy Zucker’s music unfolds like the kinds of stories you share with your best friends. It’s that intimate, detailed, personal, and meaningful. This approach has cemented the New Jersey-born singer, songwriter, and producer as a quietly impactful voice for Gen Z—and beyond. Since emerging in 2015, he has amassed a staggering 5.3 billion global streams and sold 3 million albums. His catalog consists of definitive anthems, such as the Gold-Certified records “talk is overrated” feat. blackbear and “all the kids are depressed” and Platinum-Certified records “you were good to me” with Chelsea Cutler and the breakout “comethru,” which The FADER hailed as “the intoxicating crush anthem that’s become his calling card.” He has teamed up with likeminded visionary Chelsea Cutler for the collaborative EPs—brent [2019] and brent ii [2021]. His full-length debut, love is not dying, bowed in the Top 25 of the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart and garnered widespread praise. office magazine raved, “the 13-track album reiterates Zucker’s penchant for honest reflections through sincere lyricism,” while Wonderland won’t blame you for “deciding to stan immediately.” Not to mention, he’s received further acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard, PAPER Magazine, and more. In 2021, he’s set to release his anxiously awaited second full-length album, introduced by the soundtrack-worthy single “18.”

Rowan – Everybody Talks

Rising Cork trio Rowan share their sophomore EP Everybody Talks, today via their new label home, LA’s Beverly Martel. This week they also shared their grittiest and the deepest single for last, “One Of These Days.” The new release comes with an equally moving black and white music video. Pounding drums hold the foundation as the bright treble of the band’s guitars build the song higher and higher, only to come down into a honey-soaked bridge, where frontman Dylan Howe’s vocals mix with sweeter guitar melodies. Right after, a guitar solo takes the wheel, and the song thumps on.

On the track, Howe says, “One Of These Days is a song about the desire for vengeance after a relationship breaks down. ‘One of these days I’ll get her back’ is sung from the perspective of revenge rather than longing. It’s ambiguity is tied in with the contrast of ‘Smile’ and ‘Cry’ in the chorus. The bittersweet emotions of anger and love are contrasted with imagery such as death and infancy and Robert Emmet’s love for Ireland, in which he faced the gallows for.”

On the video, he adds: “The video for “One Of These Days” is a snapshot of a grittier Ireland. Touching on addiction, substance abuse and dealing with one’s inner turmoil. One person’s normality is another person’s insanity. The video is a comment on how we perceive the outsiders of society, and how isolated they can be because of the collective view on them.”

The new single follows the previous release, “Nothing’s Gonna Change,” an addictive, shimmering indie anthem, laced with soaring melodies and call-and-response guitars. Accompanied by a new music video that shows the band playing live, there’s an intimacy and quirkiness to being invited into their practice space for a private show. The first single and title track, “Everybody Talks,” is also out now with a music video.

Born out of the early pandemic last year, when the three accomplished musicians were forced into a hiatus from session work, Rowan is fast becoming one of the most exciting new Irish acts around. With a wealth of songs written over the years, primarily by vocalist Dylan Howe in his bedroom, the first clutch of songs Rowan released were delicate, longing and beautiful.

Released in November last year, their debut EP No One Is Safe Here is a wistful collection of quiet serenity. Full of longing, escapism and a desire to be somewhere else, the songs were inspired by Dylan’s various struggles with mental health.

Of course, there were questions about whether Rowan should release music during a pandemic, especially with most established acts waiting for it all to blow over. “We figured doing anything was better than radio silence,” explains Fionn and he was right. People connected to the pained escapism their music offered, which seemed to speak to the current moment in time perfectly. They didn’t have expectations to suddenly become the biggest band in the world, “we just wanted to connect to people”.

Connecting with people is exactly what Rowan did. With a groundswell of support from the likes of Hot Press, Nialler & Golden Plec, the band have also amassed hundreds of thousands of streams off their own backs. Now, under new label home Beverly Martel, Rowan continues to establish themselves as an emotional force to be reckoned with. A debut album is already in the works, whilst Everybody Talks comes as their next bold, defiant offering. In celebration of the EP’s release, the band will perform a very special headline show at Dublin’s Button Factory on 23rd July. Tickets are available HERE.

Stalking Gia – Blue

STALKING GIA UNVEILS NEW SINGLE & MUSIC VIDEO BLUE

WATCH THE VIDEO HERE, MORE NEW MUSIC COMING SOON

Unspooling an immersive multimedia vision throughout 2021, acclaimed New York-based alt-pop songstress Stalking Gia shares a new single and music video entitled Blue today. Get it HERE. Watch the music video HERE.

On the track, soft keys cut through an airy hum as guitar underscores her effervescent delivery. While the momentum builds, she croons the hook, Everything I touch turns to blue. In the visual, she dons an Alice In Wonderland-style blue dress and dances solo against a series of digitized backdrops. Her lithe movements flutter with the same wistful joy of her voice, delivering a sensory experience.

She teased the song earlier this week with the premiere of her Blue Episode. In the clip, Stalking Gia types up the story on an old school typewriter, opening up her world in between burning personal love letters. Watch it HERE.

It all sets the stage for her debut project, SEASON ONE. Right now, she’s building a trail to the music with these episodic installments and more surprises on the horizon.

Earlier this year, she shared Astronaut and Worship. Reeling in attention from the likes of Refinery29 (the singer-songwriter turns the unique pop offering into a hymn of brutal introspection), 1883 Magazine, and more, FLAUNT Magazine proclaimed, Stalking Gia is your new favorite alternative pop artist, and we can’t get enough!

ABOUT STALKING GIA

A cosmopolitan alternative pop femme fatale and the ultimate object of digital obsession, Stalking Gia documents the nocturnal movements of a culture anesthetized by following one another in an endless digital loop, high-fashion fixation, and the thrill of collapse. Generating 20 million-plus streams and receiving acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Galore, Marie Claire, Noisey, Nylon and more, she materializes like a specter in the space between online fantasy and Manhattan’s real-life nocturnal glow. Stalking Gia first came to life via the single Second Nature. Achieving viral success, the track organically tallied near 12 million Spotify streams and incited a growing buzz. blackbear integrated a sample of Second Nature into the track Wish U the Best from his gold-certified chart-topping 2017 album, Digital Druglord, and invited her on tour. Meanwhile, she maintained her momentum with the single Siren and continued her collaborative relationship with blackbear for her single Miracles, which landed on New Music Friday playlists worldwide. Her versatile songwriting talents extend beyond her solo material, having written and sang the hook on Raekwon’s 2017 single Purple Brick Road featuring G-Eazy. Along the way, she assembled what would become SEASON ONE with producers J&R. Taking an active role, she oversaw arrangement and played piano and guitar on the productions. The project distills snapshots of experiences, capturing a period in time and framing it between online fantasy and stark reality. In the end, Gia offers listeners a different sort of escape both online and I.R.L.

I want you to get lost in my music, she says. I’d love to give everyone a euphoric experience. Shut off the outside world and dive into my fantasy. Maybe you can even feel inspired and magical. I do.

LMB DG – Trust Me

LMB DG released his new single, “Trust Me,” via Capitol Records. Atop a haunting keyboard melody, he delivers a powerful declaration of self-reliance and victory over those who would bring him to his knees. The Los Angeles-based artist wrote the track with Chase The Money and Desro, who also served as producers. Stream “Trust Me,” from DG’s forthcoming mixtape, HERE. Watch for the official video to premiere soon.

“Trust Me” follows DG’s viral hit “Pull Up,” which has now surpassed 30 million combined global streams. Praising his “fast bars and rhythmic verses,” EARMILK said, “’Pull Up’ has a classic hip-hop and R&B sound, LMB DG toggles between melodic vocals and quick, structured raps. Each bar describes his triumphant grind for the finer things in life.” View the gritty official video for “Pull Up,” which was directed by Picture Perfect (A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, French Montana, Cardi B), HERE.

About LMB DG

DG was born to deliver the ghetto gospel, music for survivors. Fueled by memories of his troubled Los Angeles neighborhood and the years he spent honing a powerful voice in his church choir, the West Coast artist freely spills his soul over solemn trap beats. He spins tales of tragedy, triumph, romance and everything in between, creating anthems that sit at the intersection of despair and inspiration, drawing from a life that’s been filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Born DeGabriel Floyd to a mother from Trinidad and Tobago and a father from Illinois, DG remembers riding around in the car with his dad, listening to Boyz II Men and Michael Jackson. Inspired by their melodies, he began singing in church with his sister. To this day, Boyz II Men remain one of his favorite groups. Check out DG’s soulful acapella take on their chart-topping 1992 hit “End of the Road” HERE.

When he was only nine, DG‘s father died of lung cancer. Inspired by his dad’s love of football, DG began to focus on making his own gridiron dreams a reality. By his senior year of high school, he had earned a full scholarship to play at the University of Texas. While preparing for his freshman season, DG learned he had a congenital condition that narrows the spine. He announced his retirement from football in December 2019. Turning to music as a way of coping, he quickly found that highly personal songs like “Long Nights” and “Pull Up” resonated with others.

“Now I know I’m not alone, and other people can know they’re not alone, too,” says LMB DG.

LIL MOE 6BLOCKA × ROOGA: SCRAPPERS

Lil Moe 6Blocka and Rooga released SCRAPPERS, a nine-track mixtape.

SCRAPPERS is a powerful testament to the importance of mentorship. Rooga, a lynchpin of the Chicago rap scene since the release of his acclaimed 2016 tape, I Am Scrapp, has taught Moe a better way to navigate life. In turn, 16-year-old Moe  a disciple of drill rap who has released high-octane hits like “Risky” (named one of “the best hip-hop songs of 2021” by HipHopDx and later making waves with a remix featuring 22Gz), “Leave Em Stretched,” “Nothin,” “Ion Know,” “What I Say,” and 6Blocka has sparked a renewed hustle in Rooga.

The mixtape’s first single, “Get You Wacked,” was produced by C-Sick, one of the pioneering producers of the Windy City’s drill scene. Bristling with bravado and sly wordplay, it announced the duo’s auspicious arrival and establishes them as a force to be reckoned with. View the official video, which has amassed over half a million views. The follow-up single, “No Love,” was included in HipHopDX’s New Music Friday roundup alongside artists like Bas, J. Cole, and Post Malone.

Both Moe and I have been losing friends, losing brothers, and we’re tied by that bond,” explains Rooga.

The duo aligns lyrical styles to create meditative tracks that reckon with the violence each has witnessed in their lives. Rooga passionately raps about his son the future and about keeping guns off the streets. Moe pays homage to his friend Dooski, who passed in 2018. On “Street 2 Me,” Rooga spits, “I just took the shorties out the hood and showed em something different.” Meanwhile, Moe’s verses show that he knows the status quo too well. “There’s no getting past the hard shit,” Moe says. “I just keep taking it in and doing what I do. I try not to think about it, but it can be hard to escape.”

The mixtape’s title is multi-faceted metaphor. It’s a nod of respect to Rooga’s little brother “Scrapp” and others they’ve lost and an acknowledgement of how the losses have left Moe and Rooga as the “scraps,” the remaining fragments. It’s also about scrapping doing what you need to do to overcome. Moe and Rooga have taken different paths, but they’ve come to the same conclusion: Rap is both the best way to remember those they’ve lost, and to try to prevent that pain from happening again.

Ebhoni – Good Dick & Weed

EBHONI REPS FOR ALL THE TORONTO BAD GYALS ON NEW PROJECT GOOD DICK & WEED

Listen/Download Good Dick & Weed HERE

A refreshing departure from the current landscape of R&B, 21-year-old singer/songwriter Ebhoni keeps it realer than real on her latest mixtape Good Dick & Weed out today. The 10-track project includes a collaboration with Jamaican rap star Beam in addition to Ebhoni’s breakout single Rep It & her confident ode to women with options, Rotation, produced by industry heavyweight FORTHENIGHT (Bad Bunny, Don Toliver). Born & raised in Toronto, Good Dick & Weed is heavily influenced by Ebhoni’s Caribbean upbringing and is full of bold & honest convictions, a fierce body of work that is sure to redefine what it means to be a woman fully in charge and uninhibited. Listen HERE.

Good Dick & Weed in many ways channels a keen sense of the best parts of what some would define as nostalgia: the era of mixtapes and tumblr, telling a story through visceral imagery and honest anecdotes, the internet in its rawer early form. Good Dick & Weed paints snapshots of different cities in the same harshly ephemeral gleam, from Westwood to Wilshire, specific places made universal by the heartbreak and hopefulness within them.

On opening track If You Know You Know, Ebhoni speaks directly to a night where gunfire punctured six bullet holes in the backseat window of her family’s car, and they had to temporarily relocate to her grandmother’s house, where she openly wonders: what if she had been sitting in that backseat? Putting up walls for her own self-protection, she’s only now beginning to draw from the power that comes from her own vulnerability. I really have been through so much, and it’s important to show that to help others who might not have that platform. Good Dick & Weed draws from this agency, a declaration of assured frankness that shows the choices you make don’t have to be perfect as long as you believe in them.

Good Dick & Weed is a product of nighttime, connecting the dots and piecing together information from strings of late night texts, voice notes from the calls you choose not to pick up, as well as poignant diary vignettes curled up in the sink from the washroom of the Atlanta apartment she currently resides. where the low-key 21-year-old feels her most authentic self. It’s also a matter-of-fact acknowledgement of growing up on Weston Road in Toronto where her father sold drugs, waking up to ringing doorbells early in the morning, seeing notes left on her mother’s car and playing outside of housing complexes while her father was inside doing deals.

Track List

  1. IYKYK
  2. Come Over (feat. Beam)
  3. Rep It
  4. Rotation
  5. Be A Man
  6. Westwood
  7. I Try
  8. Think
  9. Truth Say
  10. Wilshire & Bixel

Praised for her powerhouse talent, Office Magazine predicts Ebhoni is on a fast track to worldwide recognition. Earlier this year, Ebhoni released her EP X, to critical reception from press and rare groove enthusiasts. In addition to Pitchfork praising Ebhoni for reclaiming the Toronto R&B crown for women, HotNewHipHop wrote, Ebhoni has been one artist to keep an eye out for in the 6ix. It’s no wonder FLAUNT crowned her Our favorite new R&B artist. Tracks like Rotation only bolster the rep she’s built as one of R&B’s most magnetic young stars, and with the release of Good Dick & Weed, Ebhoni’s growing fandom will surely only continue to expand.

DeathbyRomy – Day I Die

DEATHBYROMY RELEASES BLISTERING NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO DAY I DIE

Tickets On Sale Today for Headline Shows At The Roxy In Los Angeles On September 15 & Brooklyn, NY’s Baby’s Alright On October 7

LISTEN HERE – WATCH HERE

‘Day I Die’ builds off chilled-out industrial production before the floor falls from beneath DeathbyRomy’s hook with bone-chilling screams and pummeling metal guitars. That second chorus is the ultimate climax. – PAPER Magazine

Today, alternative agitator DeathbyRomy returns with the explosive Day I Die, her first new single of 2021. The Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter combines undeniable hooks, brash production, metal riffs, and double-kick pummel on the track, which comes with a mind-melting music video courtesy of director Pix3lface. Listen HERE and watch the video HERE, which premiered today on PAPER Magazine.

An anthem for the terminally lovesick, Day I Die finds DeathbyRomy (born Romy Flores) deep in the grips of obsession. Take all of me, make me feel again, she laments. You got something sick and I know I’ll always want it to the day I die. That’s when the gnarled guitars come crashing in and the song takes a crushing turn. Jarring, catchy, and raw, Day I Die captures an artist already known for pushing boundaries breaking even more new ground.

This song is about my relationship with life, death, and love. ‘Day I Die’ at its core is a love song. Love isn’t soft and mushy to me, it’s hard as fuck. Love is god. It’s vibrant and addicting. Love is what fuels me to do all I do, says DeathbyRomy.

DeathbyRomy digs deep for the futuristic video too. Directed by Pix3lface and filmed in Malibu, the Day I Die visual is equal parts teenage dream and total nightmare. DeathbyRomy delivers a blistering performance, intercut with ominous scenes from a house party that she haunts. It’s intense, otherworldly, and beautiful, just like the song itself.

Day I Die follows singles Fiending for a Lover and Kiss Me Goodbye, which landed on multiple high-profile playlists and generated millions of streams. DeathbyRomy also contributed two tracks to the soundtrack of 2020’s Oscar-winning Promising Young Woman, the original Come and Play With Me and a pitch-black cover of the disco classic, It’s Raining Men.

Today, DeathbyRomy also announces two fall 2021 headline shows. The performances will take place on September 15 at Los Angeles’ famed rock venue, The Roxy (tickets on sale HERE) and Baby’s Alright In Brooklyn, NY on October 7 (tickets on sale HERE). The announcement of these tour dates follows DeathbyRomy’s killer performance earlier this month at LA’s Bar Lubitsch alongside Gia Woods, Miss Madeline, and Hollis.

Since releasing her 2019 Capitol Records debut EP Love u to Death, DeathbyRomy has been hailed as one to watch, garnering an abundance of glowing writeups. PAPER mag dubbed her Gen Z’s dark princess of pop, while Alternative Press crowned her the next empowering woman to capture your heart in their 100 Artists You Need to Know issue. Her songs have captivated critics and fans, and each new single, Day I Die included, feels like an even bolder left turn, she’s the sort of provocative, exciting artist sure to invade more eardrums soon.

About DeathbyRomy

Singer, songwriter, and dark-pop provocateur DeathbyRomy pays attention to every last detail. She pours both pain and euphoria into her catchy but heavy music, pitting electronic melodies and propulsive beats against hypnotic vocals and deeply personal lyrics. Now 21 years old, the Los Angeles-born Romy Flores wrote her first song at age 5 and began releasing her music at 15, mining inspiration from the iconoclastic artists she was raised on (The Beatles, Bjork, Kanye West, to name a few). With her 2018 debut album Monsters, she soon drew an avid following and found countless fans turning up to her shows adorned in her signature eye makeup. Her Capitol Records debut, 2019’s Love u to Death EP, was short but sickly sweet, emphasizing her unique interweaving of rap boldness, electronic innovation, and raw rock ‘n’ roll passion. As Romy’s sound has taken shape, so has her DeathbyRomy persona: the Harajuku punk fashion, the corpse paint-like makeup, and her hard-earned, utterly badass confidence. 2020’s Kiss Me Goodbye found Romy cleverly bidding farewell to an unfaithful lover over future-forward production, refusing to be second best to a pesky ex while dramatic drops punctuate her decision to choose herself. DeathbyRomy also contributed two songs to the Promising Young Woman soundtrack in 2020. She penned an original for the Oscar-winning film, Come and Play With Me, and covered the disco classic, It’s Raining Men. Day I Die marks DeathbyRomy’s first single of 2021. Gnarly and anthemic, it’s another genre-blending hit from the bold singer/songwriter, who PAPER dubbed Gen Z’s dark princess of pop.
