Town & Country’s 8th Annual Philanthropy Summit

The 8th annual Town & Country Philanthropy Summit concluded yesterday with a wonderful talk from Hugh Evans interviewed by Joe Scarborough. Click here for highlights from the panel.

Town & Country’s “Live Well, Give Well” charity auction is also live for an additional week and all proceeds benefit World Central Kitchen. The auction has a dedicated and branded online gallery on Charitybuzz.

Hugh on how he got involved in philanthropy: “For me, my journey started in Melbourne, Australia, I just grew up in middle class Melbourne, Australia and my parents didn’t have any background in this area. They both just worked full-time, and it was one day in my first year of high school, a lady from a charity came and spoke at our school about poverty in the developing world. I was an eager 13-year-old kid that I put out my hand and I said, ‘OK I’m gonna try to raise the most amount of money we can.’  I just started door knocking on every door in the neighborhood. I spoke to everyone I possibly could, and we raised more money than any school in Australia and so the charity sent me to the Philippines when I was 14 years old to see their work firsthand.”

Hugh on how Global Citizen got off the ground with help from U2 and Pearl Jam: “It wasn’t until 2006 when the G20 was coming through Melbourne, Australia and me and my mate Dan had this idea to run this small concert that coincided with the G20 summit in Melbourne… I got a phone call from Bono from U2. And he said in his thick Irish accent, ‘Hey boys I’m coming to Melbourne. I’m going to perform in the Make Poverty History concert, is that alright?’ And I thought it was a prank call at the time, I’m like ‘yeah of course you can.’ Then sure enough, he was serious, and he brought Pearl Jam with him and they created this ensemble, they called U Jam, for U2 and Pearl Jam. That night we managed to convince the Australian government to double foreign aid levels who raised $6.2 billion which was the largest foreign aid increase in Australia’s history. And so that was really how Global Citizen was born because the following day, I got a phone call from the United Nations in New York who said they want to help us take this movement all around the world. And at the time I was just finishing university and about to go off to study in the UK and it was through that initial phone call that everything birthed from there.”

Hugh on drawing inspiration from Nelson Mandela: “At Global Citizen, ever since we began, we were inspired by a speech that Nelson Mandela gave actually one of his final speeches, he gave at the launch of the Make poverty history campaign back in 2005, and he said that overcoming extreme poverty was not a gesture of charity but an act of justice. He said, ‘like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural it’s man-made and can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.’ We’ve always focused on that ideal that he said – he called it our generation’s greatest challenge ’cause there are so many needs on our planet right now. But Mandela defined this is the greatest need that the worst form of human suffering.  He said, ‘this is truly, alongside slavery and apartheid, this generation’s great challenge.’ That’s why we decided to make it the heartbeat of our mission.”

Hugh on how Global Citizen differs from traditional charity: “We are hyper focused on moving our world leaders and billionaires, holding their feet to the fire, to make sure they deliver on the promises that made to the world’s poor. That’s the only way we’re going to unlock the multi-billion-dollar pledges is needed to address the root causes of extreme poverty… The only way we scale that is if the ultra-high network community and if governments do what they have already pledged do in the name of the United Nations sustainable development goals. So our job at Global Citizen is to build an unstoppable movement of citizens to put pressure on those world leaders, calling in to make the change that’s needed most.”

Hugh on the power of Global Citizens coming together: “I’ve seen so many world leaders who come to me and they’ve said: ‘When I received 100,000 emails in one day from Global Citizens around the world, I had to respond.’ I’ve seen so many world leaders say to me, ‘It was because Global Citizens put pressure on me in unison, that I had no choice but to take action.’ Even the other day, it was awesome – Selena Gomez, who is part of our Vax Live campaign, tweeted Boris Johnson after the G7, she said ‘Don’t congratulate yourself, Boris Johnson, you’ve only committed to give away 5 million doses by September and you have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world.’ And all of a sudden, it took the wind out of those political sails where often politicians like to spin and say that they’ve done something they really haven’t done. And that’s really our job: we want to hold world leaders accountable. But it can only happen when citizens work in unison to create enormous change.”

ASHLEY KUTCHER – FAVORITE WHAT IF

ASHLEY KUTCHER RELEASES NEW SINGLE & MUSIC VIDEO FAVORITE WHAT IF

22-year-old singer-songwriter and rising artist-to-watch Ashley Kutcher unveils a new single and music video Favorite What If. The Clyde Munroe directed video is a dreamy montage telling the story of past lovers through shots of their intimate moments spent together. The song is out now via Darkroom/Interscope Records.

On the meaning behind Favorite What If, Ashley shared, “This song is reminiscent of all the great times you’ve had with someone you’re no longer close with. I feel like people will easily relate since we’ve all had a situation where we feel plagued with thoughts of what could have been.”

On the track, dreamy guitar ebbs and flows underneath her intimate delivery. As if reading right from her diary, Ashley carries a confessional chorus with poignant power, “And I wish I told you everything I told myself I would. You left a mark on my heart, but never on my lips, and now you’re just my favorite what if.” The accompanying music video translates her vivid storytelling into a compelling display on screen.

Engaging her audience early, she increased anticipation for its arrival on TikTok with a “demo leak” post in April, amassing 315K views. Earlier this month, she previewed the mastered song in her car for another post and racked up over 500K views.

The single arrives on the heels of If I Could. It has already gathered over 1.3 million Spotify streams and 106K views on the music video. In addition to looks from Melodic Magazine and more, she sat down for recent interviews with American Songwriter and 1883 Magazine.

Her breakout song Love You From A Distance has amassed over 27M combined streams across Spotify and Apple Music, and earned placement on highly coveted playlists including Pop Rising, Fresh & Chill, Alone Again, and more. With nearly 35K TikTok creates under her belt, and radio placement from BBC Radio 1’s ‘Best New Pop’ and Sirius XM’s ‘The Pulse’, Ashley has officially taken the plunge into her new career as a musician. While continuing to impress the world with her songwriting abilities, she is hard at work preparing for her debut project out later this year via Darkroom/Interscope.

About Ashley Kutcher

Baltimore, MD singer, songwriter, and artist Ashley Kutcher distinguishes herself as the kind of raw talent equally at home on the stage of a neighborhood watering hole or live on social media. Post-high school, she pursued a nursing degree at Towson University. While at Towson, a local bar came across a video of her singing online and invited her to perform on their stage. This opportunity opened the floodgates as Ashley quit her waitressing job shortly after and logged regular marathon sets, often playing four hours per night. During her senior year, she uploaded a demo of her original composition Lust to TikTok. The video instantly gained traction and garnered thousands of views in just 48 hours. To sustain this momentum, she released a follow-up demo called “Hands To Myself” to streaming platforms and the song quickly surpassed 1 million streams on Spotify. While her nascent fan base continued to grow, Ashley came across a tweet from blackbear that read “hit me up if you don’t like me. As her creative neurons began to fire, she used the tweet as inspiration and responded with her own song similarly named HMU if U Don’t Like Me, which went on to quickly rack up another million streams.  At this point, she realized the power of transforming a post into a song and did the same thing with Love You From a Distance, setting TikTok on fire with just a D.I.Y. performance clip from her bathroom. Produced by Eric Taft, the song quickly eclipsed 9.5 million Spotify streams as she signed to Darkroom/Interscope Records (now at 38M). Amassing 20 million streams independently and 20 million TikTok views, Ashley’s heartfelt honesty captivates on a series of singles for Darkroom/Interscope and her 2021 debut EP.

Young Franco via Casey Garnsey for use by 360 Magazine

Young Franco × SonReal × Jalmar – Come Thru

Following one of the biggest Australian songs of last year, Young Franco is back with yet another banger, “Come Thru” featuring SonReal and Jalmar. A brilliant follow up to his late 2020 release “Fallin Apart” featuring Denzel Curry & Pell, the Sydney based producer raises the bar yet again with “Come Thru,” a single filled to the brim with confidence and production class. Listen HERE

As a track, “Come Thru” deals in the provision of positive energy and trusting your inner confidence. Combining a glitchy synth line with laid back drums and a sexy slick bass line creates a melting pot of formidable two step and raucous energy. Joining the near perfect musical bed is SonReal and Jalmar. They provide a piece of unflustered bravado, with the two versatile vocal deliveries trading verses, bars and energy rapidly over the Margherita ready production.

Franco stated, “’Come Thru’ started as an instrumental with just bass and a groove. I had a session with Sonreal in February 2020 and we just clicked. What was really special was that it was one of the last times I was in the USA. We were also shooting the Juice official video and had a lot of lovely people ‘come thru’ to where I was staying in Highland Park. I think that helped inspire the song and take it in a certain direction. I was looking for a second verse and was introduced to Jalmar. When I heard his verse, I immediately knew the song was completed.”

Young Franco‘s project is currently sitting perched above the clouds, with career highlights being ticked off with every subsequent release. His most recent single, “Fallin Apart” featuring Denzel Curry and Pell took the already glowing artist to angelic levels. The single received a full add on Triple J, as well as radio spins globally, and featured on publications such as Clah Magazine, NME, Out Now Magazine, Colors, Sniffers, Happy Mag, Acclaim, Purple Sneakers, Pilerats and more. The track also featured as the soundtrack for Apple’s Airpod “Jump” campaign which has garnered over 10 million views on YouTube and premiered during the Grammys broadcast.

BRIAN MAY – DRIVEN BY YOU

Brian May announces re-release and new music video of his classic single

DRIVEN BY YOU ahead of remastered Back To The Light album

“The song Freddie Mercury generously gave his blessing to be my solo track.”

Brian May’s first solo hit, and the unforgettable TV ad it was made for, came from the most unlikely of origins.

Driven By You is, without doubt, one of rock’s most rousing and lasting anthems. Originally written for a Ford car television commercial, the solo track was a worldwide hit when it first debuted as a single off May’s 1992 Back To The Light album. But the unforgettable song had its beginnings oceans away from the open roads of the UK countryside that were framed in that TV ad.

Originally released in November 1991, Driven By You saw success worldwide including reaching No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 9 on the US Billboard Album Rock Chart. Re-released to download on June 25 ahead of the forthcoming remastered reissue of May’s Back To The Light album on August 6, the reissue of the track comes with a scorching new 30th Anniversary video edit. The performance was originally filmed when the Queen legend sang the track live for the first time at the 1991 Guitar Legends concert in Seville, Spain, and during his 1992 South America tour.

The energetic footage features Brian performing the song with an all-star band including Cozy Powell on drums, Neil Murray on bass and Steve Vai on rhythm guitar. Plus, Rick Wakeman and Mike Moran on keyboards, alongside Maggie Ryder, Miriam Stockley and Chris Moran on backing vocals. That music video can be seen in its updated form here.

Sharing the backstory to Driven By You, May cites a Los Angeles pool bathroom as the unlikely starting point for his classic song.

“There’s a kind of mystery about writing songs. You never know where they come from. All I know is I was sitting around a swimming pool in Los Angeles with an ad producer. He’s sitting there sunning himself. I’m there with my future wife sunning myself by the pool, and we get talking. And he says, ‘Oh, you write songs, don’t you?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I write songs.’ He said, ‘Well could you write a song for an advert? Have you ever done that?’ And I went, ‘No, I’ve never done it.’ He asked, ‘Would you like to?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I’d be very interested.’ He then asked me how I would feel about a slogan that goes, ‘Everything we do, we do for you.’

“And I went, ‘Yeah, I could relate to that’ because I can feel that in my own mind about my own self. And it got modified later on. It became ‘Everything we do is driven by you’ because it was about cars, and I liked that even more. And as soon as he said that I went off to the bathroom with my little tape recorder and sang some stuff into the tape recorder. I sang most of the verse and a bit of the chorus, which is the way it happens with me. Suddenly a light goes on and I could hear it in my head, I could hear the whole thing, ‘Driven By You,’ and I wrote it for them, for the Ford Car Company, and completed it very quickly. I went into the studio when I got back, completed it quickly for them, and then they liked it.”

Revisiting Driven By You today, May has also revealed how the song helped create a special understanding with Freddie Mercury in his final days and how the Queen singer encouraged his dear friend and bandmate to ‘find his wings’ in his solo career.

Talking of Freddie, May says: “I played it to Freddie and I said, ‘Freddie, you know if this becomes a Queen track, which it might do, obviously you should sing it.’ He listened and went, ‘You’ve done it very well darling, and I think you should sing it’. Now whether that’s because he really did think I sang it well or just because he didn’t want to sing anything, I don’t know. But he said, ‘It’s beautiful, it’s great, it’s very complete in its own way, you should do it.’ And he said something very profound at the time. He said, ‘You know we’re all thinking and wondering what’s going to happen to me, and you don’t have to feel embarrassed about it. You know you should be thinking about your solo career at this time and if this is the beginning of your solo career then it’s a very worthy beginning. This is probably the beginning of your finding your wings as you need to do.’ So, Freddie was very far-sighted and very generous as always and sort of gave me permission to do this as a solo track, which I did.”

“I rewrote the words as a piece of relationship therapy, you know, ‘Everything I do is driven by you’ and put it out as a single and it was a hit. So, it was a nice boost to me to feel I could do things on my own. I wasn’t just a piece of Queen. And that’s what I believe about the core of songs; sometimes you don’t know why you’re writing them. You don’t know where it’s coming from, but it can be channeled into a way which makes sense in various ways. And things are always about life for me; they’re always about relationships. Either my relationships or relationships with people around me. It’s about humans interacting. That to me is the most exciting thing in the world; the most important thing and the hardest thing to get right in your life. A lot of people can do great stuff. You know, fly aero planes, go to the Moon. Relationships… not so easy. So, it’s about that as always.”

Out of the Light, the companion release available in the Back To The Light box set and on the 2CD and digital formats, features three alternative versions of Driven By You including the original Ford Ad Version and a Cozy (Powell) and Neil (Murray) ’93 version.

Driven By You is available to download and stream here.

Brian May’s Back To The Light remastered reissue is available on August 6 on CD, Vinyl, Cassette, digital download and streaming formats.

How to Treat Keratosis Pilaris at Home

Tips from board-certified dermatologists to help clear tiny, rough-feeling bumps on the arms and thighs

The start of summer means more tank tops and shorts, and for some people, a pesky new skin condition they may not have noticed before. Keratosis pilaris causes tiny, rough feeling bumps to appear on the skin, most often on the upper arms and thighs. According to dermatologists from the American Academy of Dermatology, this common and harmless skin condition affects people of all ages and races and occurs when dead skin cells clog the pores.

“Some people say the bumps look like goosebumps, chicken skin or strawberry skin, while others mistake the bumps for acne,” says board-certified dermatologist Mona Gohara, MD, FAAD. “While treatment isn’t necessary for keratosis pilaris, if the itch, dryness or appearance is bothersome, there are things you can do at home to help.”

To ease the symptoms and help you see clearer skin, Dr. Gohara recommends the following tips:

Keep baths and showers short. Spending too much time in the water can dry your skin and cause keratosis pilaris to flare. Limit baths and showers to five to 10 minutes and use lukewarm water.

Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. This will help avoid irritation when washing your skin.

Gently exfoliate skin with keratosis pilaris once a week. You can exfoliate using a skin care product called a keratolytic — a type of chemical exfoliator. Look for one that contains one of the following ingredients: alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, a retinoid, salicylic acid, or urea. Take care to use the exfoliator exactly as described in the directions, as applying too much or using it more often than indicated can cause raw, irritated skin. In addition, avoid scrubbing your skin, which can make keratosis pilaris worse.

Moisturize your skin. Apply a thick, oil-free moisturizing cream or ointment immediately after bathing — when your skin is still damp — or whenever your skin feels dry. Look for one that contains urea or lactic acid. You can also use a humidifier to prevent dry skin. However, make sure to clean and disinfect your humidifier weekly to prevent the growth of harmful mold and bacteria.

Avoid shaving or waxing skin with keratosis pilaris. This can cause more bumps to appear. However, if you must shave the area, use a single-blade razor instead of a multi-blade razor.

“For many people, keratosis pilaris goes away with time,” says Dr. Gohara. “However, clearing tends to happen gradually over many years. If the bumps still bother you after trying these tips, make an appointment to see a board-certified dermatologist for a treatment plan that addresses your concerns.”

These tips are demonstrated in “How to Treat Keratosis Pilaris at Home,” a video posted to the AAD website and YouTube channel. This video is part of the AAD’s “Video of the Month” series, which offers tips people can use to properly care for their skin, hair and nails.

To find a board-certified dermatologist in your area, visit the American Academy of Dermatology’s website here.

Airports During a Pandemic

By: Carly Cohen

At last, it’s time to start traveling again. But safely!

We created a list of the top 10 safest airports to travel into during a pandemic.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is particularly considered one of the safest because it offers different baggage drop locations and provides many options for social distancing to protect yourself and others.

John F. Kennedy International Airport

JFK located in New York City is surprisingly another safe and great option for traveling. Using the word “surprisingly” because New York City is a very populated area but there are countless contactless options and offer rapid test areas. Restaurants, spa services, and lounges are all officially starting to open back up for an enjoyable travel experience.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is the best and safest option while traveling in and out of Texas, and is also the first “Carbon neutral airport in North America.”

ED SHEERAN – BAD HABITS

GLOBAL SUPERSTAR ED SHEERAN RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE BAD HABITS ALONGSIDE CINEMATIC DAVE MEYERS-DIRECTED OFFICIAL VIDEO

ACCLAIMED SINGER/SONGWRITER SET FOR WEEK-LONG RESIDENCY ON THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH JAMES CORDEN BEGINNING THIS MONDAY, JUNE 28

Global superstar Ed Sheeran officially returns with his new single Bad Habitsalongside the Dave Meyers-directed official video.

Spending the last few years out of the spotlight following his record-breaking two-year Divide tour and the arrival of his first daughter, Ed Sheeran marks his official return with the euphoric, song-of-summer contender, Bad Habits. Sheeran is an artist who motors on nonconformity, with Bad Habits; landing as something unexpected yet wholly his; a testament to a forward-thinking artist who continues to push his art into new dimensions. Deploying an up-tempo, guitar-laced summer anthem, Bad Habits is a song that channels escapist energy and most importantly makes you want to dance. Ed co-wrote and co-produced Bad Habits with long-time collaborators, Johnny McDaid (Shape of You) and FRED (No.6 Collaborations Project).

In the accompanying official video – directed by Dave Meyers (Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar) – we see Ed as we’ve never seen him before as he depicts an alter-ego vampire character. Trading his distinct ginger hair for bleached white and his teeth for fangs, the dark-humor narrative serves as a metaphor for “bad habits” as Ed embarks on a wild night out alongside his crew of ghouls, before morphing back to his real self the next morning, ginger hair intact, as the sun rises over him. The official video made its global broadcast premiere on MTV Live/MTVU/MTV’s global network of channels today, as was also trailed on ViacomCBS Times Square billboard.

Ed Sheeran says, “Feels great to be back with my new single. I wanted the video for Bad Habits to play on the nature of habits in a fantastical way, so I decided on vampires. It was mega fun getting into character except for the heights (that wasn’t so fun). Enjoy x

Benefits of Buying Tailbone Cushion Seat for Your Daily Use

Research shows that many people spend several hours sited. And so, are you among these individuals? Sitting for long periods can hurt you, including tiredness, severe back pain, or lower back pain. To avoid such complications, you should ensure you have an ergonomic seat. One way of having such a seat is by adding a cushion to it. These are the benefits of these cushions.

Helps with Better Digestion

Sitting in some office chairs compresses your abdomen and pelvis. When these areas experience compression, you may suffer digestion problems. This compression can further cause constipation or heartburn. You may develop other severe conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, whose symptoms include abdominal cramps, bloating to mention but a few.

After eating some heavy meal, you should not compress your digestive system by using an office cushion.

Better Concentration at Work

An office cushion gives you better blood circulation and posture. You will be more comfortable and concentrate better at your workplace. The buffer protects you from back pain that hinders your productivity.

Better Productivity

Comfortable employees are more focused and hence productive. The company will also have fewer workers going for sick leave due to back pains. Employees with good health translate to better business performance. The business will also not suffer lawsuits from staff demanding work-related compensation after they suffer injuries.

Available Variety

Do you have a specific office décor theme that you want to maintain? Worry not, for you will find a variety of office cushions that suits you. There are several designs you can select, such as jacquard, plain, or dobby cushions.

You have the option of choosing a gel one, a memorable one, or a mixed one. The gel one transfers heat better while the other lasts longer.

Affordability

Some people avoided seat cushions in the past because of their costs. However, that’s a thing in the past. Currently, the cushions are affordable, and you cannot miss one within your budget from a site like amazon.com/Seat-Cushion-Office-Chair-Desk/dp/B01EBDV9BU/.

More Comfort

Sitting exposes your tailbone to pressure. A good cushion relieves this pressure allowing you to sit longer without experiencing pain. When you are comfortable, you sit upright, thereby maintaining a good posture which translates to better health.

Versatility

Seat cushions are not only applicable at the office. However, you can use them anywhere. You can add cushions to your car seat to improve comfort. If you also love traveling, you can carry one to make your journey more comfortable and enjoyable.

Better Circulation

Sitting for extended periods strains your circulatory system. The blood that’s supposed to flow to your back and legs may also fail to reach such places. Therefore, what happens to your body?

The tissues and muscles located on your back and legs will not have sufficient oxygen, thereby slowing your metabolism. So, you will feel sluggish and regularly tired. You can avoid these by buying a tailbone cushion that improves blood flow to your legs, pelvis, and back.

A tailbone cushion has several benefits. By using it, you will streamline your spine, thereby avoiding many complications because of insufficient blood circulation and digestive problems as you enjoy maximum comfort. Today, you can buy them from platforms like amazon.com/Seat-Cushion-Office-Chair-Desk/dp/B01EBDV9BU/ since they are flexible enough that you can use them in other places, including when driving.
